¹⁴ Then answered Haggai, and said: 'So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

² Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt-offerings thereon, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. ³ And they set the altar upon its bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of the countries, and they offered burnt- offerings thereon unto the LORD, even burnt-offerings morning and evening.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

⁴ A haughty look, and a proud heart - the tillage of the wicked is sin.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more, when he bringeth it with the proceeds of wickedness?

⁹ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹¹ To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto Me? saith the LORD; I am full of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When ye come to appear before Me, who hath required this at your hand, to trample My courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; it is an offering of abomination unto Me; new moon and sabbath, the holding of convocations - I cannot endure iniquity along with the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed seasons My soul hateth; they are a burden unto Me; I am weary to bear them. ¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide Mine eyes from you; yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

⁴ 'Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your cieled houses, while this house lieth waste? ⁵ Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. ⁶ Ye have sown much, and brought in little, ye eat, but ye have not enough, ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink, ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages for a bag with holes. ⁷ Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways. ⁸ Go up to the hill-country, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD. ⁹ Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of My house that lieth waste, while ye run every man for his own house. ¹⁰ Therefore over you the heaven hath kept back, so that there is no dew, and the earth hath kept back her produce. ¹¹ And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.'

¹⁵ To the pure all things are pure; but to them that are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

²³ and some save with fear, snatching them out of a fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
