⁵ And thou shalt consider in thy heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

¹⁴ I will be to him for a father, and he shall be to Me for a son; if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;

¹⁴ For all the day have I been plagued, and my chastisement came every morning. ¹⁵ If I had said: 'I will speak thus', behold, I had been faithless to the generation of Thy children.

³⁰ (89:31) If his children forsake My law, and walk not in Mine ordinances; ³¹ (89:32) If they profane My statutes, and keep not My commandments; ³² (89:33) Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes. ³³ (89:34) But My mercy will I not break off from him, nor will I be false to My faithfulness. ³⁴ (89:35) My covenant will I not profane, nor alter that which is gone out of My lips.

¹² Happy is the man whom Thou instructest, O LORD, and teachest out of Thy law;

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted, in order that I might learn Thy statutes.

⁷⁵ I know, O LORD, that Thy judgments are righteous, and that in faithfulness Thou hast afflicted me.

²⁴ He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

⁹ Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be expiated, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more.

²⁴ O LORD, correct me, but in measure; not in Thine anger, lest Thou diminish me.

⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure, God dealeth with you as with sons, for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not? ⁸ But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

¹² Blessed is the man that endureth temptation, for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.

¹¹ Behold, we call them blessed that endured; ye have heard of the patience of Job, and the end wrought of the Lord, see that he is full of pity, and merciful.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.
