⁵ O Asshur, the rod of Mine anger, in whose hand as a staff is Mine indignation!

¹¹ Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and Rehoboth-ir, and Calah,

¹⁴ From men, by Thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life, and whose belly Thou fillest with Thy treasure; who have children in plenty, and leave their abundance to their babes.

³ For the rod of wickedness shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; that the righteous put not forth their hands unto iniquity.

⁴ For before the child shall have knowledge to cry: My father, and: My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.'

¹⁵ Should the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? Should the saw magnify itself against him that moveth it? as if a rod should move them that lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up him that is not wood.

⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole earth.

⁵ The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of the rulers, ⁶ That smote the peoples in wrath with an incessant stroke, that ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that none restrained.

²⁵ That I will break Asshur in My land, and upon My mountains tread him under foot; then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulder.

³⁰ And the LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of His arm, with furious anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a bursting of clouds, and a storm of rain, and hailstones.

¹⁴ And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like young grass; and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward His servants, and He will have indignation against His enemies.

²⁰ Thou art My maul and weapons of war, and with thee will I shatter the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ And with thee will I shatter the horse and his rider, and with thee will I shatter the chariot and him that rideth therein; ²² And with thee will I shatter man and woman, and with thee will I shatter the old man and the youth, and with thee will I shatter the young man and the maid; ²³ And with thee will I shatter the shepherd and his flock, and with thee will I shatter the husbandman and his yoke of oxen, and with thee will I shatter governors and deputies. ²⁴ And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion, in your sight; saith the LORD.

¹³ And He will stretch out His hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like the wilderness.
