⁷ Babylon hath been a golden cup in LORD'S hand, that made all the earth drunken; the nations have drunk of her wine, therefore the nations are mad.

⁴ that thou shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say: How hath the oppressor ceased! the exactress of gold ceased!

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and I will send unto Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about; and I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall make bondmen of them also; and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their own hands. ¹⁵ For thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto me: Take this cup of the wine of fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be like madmen, because of the sword that I will send among them. - ¹⁷ Then took I the cup of the LORD'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them an appalment, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people; and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; ²¹ Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon; ²² and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea; ²³ Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that have the corners of their hair polled; ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the wilderness; ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth. - And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. ²⁷ And thou shalt say unto them: Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink ye, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

³⁸ A drought is upon her waters, and they shall be dried up; for it is a land of graven images, and they are mad upon things of horror.

³² As for that image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

³⁸ and wheresoever the children of men, the beasts of the field, and the fowls of the heaven dwell, hath He given them into thy hand, and hath made thee to rule over them all; thou art the head of gold.

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits; he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. ² Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. ³ Then the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. ⁴ And the herald cried aloud: 'To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, ⁵ that at what time ye hear the sound of the horn, pipe, harp, trigon, psaltery, bagpipe, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up; ⁶ and whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.' ⁷ Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, harp, trigon, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

¹⁵ Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy venom thereto, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness! ¹⁶ Thou art filled with shame instead of glory, drink thou also, and be uncovered; the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned unto thee, and filthiness shall be upon thy glory.

⁸ And another, a second angel, followed, saying, Fallen is Babylon the great, that hath made all the nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

² with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and they that dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her fornication.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, decked with gold and precious stone and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations, even the unclean things of her fornication,

³ For by the wine of the wrath of her fornication all the nations are fallen, and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth waxed rich by the power of her wantonness.

²³ and the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in thee, and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee; for thy merchants were the princes of the earth, for with thy sorcery were all the nations deceived.

² for true and righteous are his judgments, for he hath judged the great harlot, her that destroyed the earth with her fornication, and he hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.
