⁴ As for me, is my complaint to man? Or why should I not be impatient?

⁹ And Moses spoke so unto the children of Israel; but they hearkened not unto Moses for impatience of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

¹⁶ Count not thy handmaid for a wicked woman: for out of the abundance of my complaint and my vexation have I spoken hitherto.'

²⁶ And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying: 'Help, my lord, O king.' ²⁷ And he said: 'If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the threshingfloor, or out of the winepress?'

¹¹ What is my strength, that I should wait? and what is mine end, that I should be patient?

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. ¹² Am I a sea, or a sea-monster, that Thou settest a watch over me? ¹³ When I say: 'My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint'; ¹⁴ Then Thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions; ¹⁵ So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than these my bones. ¹⁶ I loathe it; I shall not live alway; let me alone; for my days are vanity. ¹⁷ What is man, that Thou shouldest magnify him, and that Thou shouldest set Thy heart upon him, ¹⁸ And that Thou shouldest remember him every morning, and try him every moment? ¹⁹ How long wilt Thou not look away from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle? ²⁰ If I have sinned, what do I unto Thee, O Thou watcher of men? Why hast Thou set me as a mark for Thee, so that I am a burden to myself? ²¹ And why dost Thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? For now shall I lie down in the dust; and Thou wilt seek me, but I shall not be.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will give free course to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say unto God: Do not condemn me; make me know wherefore Thou contendest with me.

¹¹ (42:12) Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why moanest thou within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

² (142:3) I pour out my complaint before Him, I declare before Him my trouble; ³ (142:4) When my spirit fainteth within me - Thou knowest my path - in the way wherein I walk have they hidden a snare for me.
