⁷ Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

²⁰ Behold, God will not cast away an innocent man, neither will He uphold the evil-doers;

²² It is all one - therefore I say: He destroyeth the innocent and the wicked. ²³ If the scourge slay suddenly, He will mock at the calamity of the guiltless.

⁷ He withdraweth not His eyes from the righteous; but with kings upon the throne He setteth them for ever, and they are exalted.

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

¹⁵ All things have I seen in the days of my vanity; there is a righteous man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his evil-doing.

¹ For all this I laid to my heart, even to make clear all this: that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God; whether it be love or hatred, man knoweth it not; all is before them. ² All things come alike to all; there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth and to him that sacrificeth not; as is the good, so is the sinner, and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the venomous creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped from the sea, yet Justice hath not suffered to live.

⁹ the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment,
