¹ And it came to pass, on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, there came upon him the priests and the scribes with the elders, ² and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us; By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? ³ And he answered and said unto them, I also will ask you a question, and tell me; ⁴ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? ⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say, Why did ye not believe him? ⁶ But if we shall say, From men, all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. ⁷ And they answered, that they knew not whence it was. ⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. ⁹ And he began to speak unto the people this parable; A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country for a long time. ¹⁰ And at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. ¹¹ And he sent yet another servant; and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty. ¹² And he sent yet a third; and him also they wounded, and cast him forth. ¹³ And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son, it may be they will reverence him when they see him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. ¹⁵ And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. ¹⁷ But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner? ¹⁸ Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. ¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour, and they were afraid; for they perceived that he spake this parable against them. ²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God: ²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why make ye trial of me? ²⁴ Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar's. ²⁵ And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. ²⁶ And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people; and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace. ²⁷ And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection, ²⁸ and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man's brother die, having a wife, and he die childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁹ There were therefore seven brethren; and the first took a wife, and died childless, ³⁰ and the second took her to wife, and he died childless. ³¹ and the third took her, and likewise the seven also left no children, and died. ³² Afterward the woman also died. ³³ In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife. ³⁴ And Jesus said unto them, The sons of this world marry, and are given in marriage; ³⁵ but they that are accounted worthy to attain to that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage; ³⁶ for neither can they die any more; for they are equal unto the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. ³⁷ But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the place concerning the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for all live unto him. ³⁹ And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said. ⁴⁰ And they durst not any more ask him any question. ⁴¹ And he said unto them, How say they that the Christ is David's son? ⁴² For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ⁴³ Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. ⁴⁴ David therefore calleth him Lord, and how is he his son? ⁴⁵ And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts, ⁴⁷ who devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers; these shall receive greater condemnation.

¹ And the courses of the sons of Aaron were these. These were the sons of the Levites after their fathers' houses. ³¹ These likewise cast lots even as their brethren the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the priests and of the Levites; the fathers' houses of the chief even as those of his younger brother.

⁵⁵ In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and ye took me not.

²⁷ And they come again to Jerusalem; and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, ²⁸ and they said unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? ²⁹ And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ³⁰ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me. ³¹ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, He will say, Why then did ye not believe him? ³² But should we say, From men—they feared the people; for all verily held John to be a prophet. ³³ And they answered and said unto Jesus, We know not. And Jesus saith unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

¹ And it came to pass soon afterwards, that he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good tidings of the kingdom of God, and with him the twelve,

⁴⁷ And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him: ⁴⁸ and they could not find what they might do, for the people all hung upon him, listening.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world, I ever taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always come together, and in secret spake I nothing.

¹ And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council,

¹⁴ And he said: 'Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? thinkest thou to kill me, as thou didst kill the Egyptian?' And Moses feared, and said: 'Surely the thing is known.'

³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus; and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon. ³⁶ And as he went, they spread their garments in the way. ³⁷ And as he was now drawing nigh, even at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen, ³⁸ saying, Blessed is the King that cometh in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples. ⁴⁰ And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

⁴⁵ And he entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold, ⁴⁶ saying unto them, It is written, My house is a house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of robbers.

¹⁸ The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

²² For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself; ²⁷ and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have ye done this? ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we this day are examined concerning a good deed done to an impotent man, by what means this man is made whole, ¹⁰ be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

²⁷ But he that did his neighbor wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

³⁵ This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? him hath God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the hand of the angel that appeared to him in the bush. ³⁶ This man led them forth, having wrought wonders and signs in Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ³⁷ This is that Moses, who said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord our God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me. ³⁸ This is he that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel that spake to him in the Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; who received a living oracle to give unto us: ³⁹ to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but thrust him from them, and turned back in their hearts unto Egypt,

⁵¹ Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do ye.

² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. ³ And he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

⁶⁸ and if I ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.

²⁵ (4:22) that thou shalt be driven from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and thou shalt be made to eat grass as oxen, and shalt be wet with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee; till thou know that the Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will. ²⁶ (4:23) And whereas it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

⁷ And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in the royal houses. ⁹ But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee. ¹¹ Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist; yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come. ¹⁵ He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁶ But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, and calling unto their fellows, ¹⁷ and saying, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance, we wailed unto you, and ye did not mourn. ¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. ¹⁹ The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her children.

¹¹ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things; ¹² but I say unto you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them.

²⁸ I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there is none greater than John the Baptist; yet he that is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of God, being not baptized of him. ³¹ Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation, and to what are they like? ³² They are like unto children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another, who say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance, we wailed to you, and ye did not weep. ³³ For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine, and ye say, He hath a demon. ³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking, and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! ³⁵ And wisdom is justified of all her children.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight;

⁶ There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

¹⁹ And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou? ²⁰ And he confessed, and denied not, and he confessed, I am not the Christ. ²¹ And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. ²² They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? ²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet. ²⁴ And they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet? ²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize in water; but in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not. ²⁷ He it is that cometh after me, who hath been before me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

¹⁵ John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me; for he was before me. ¹⁶ And of his fullness we all received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me; for he was before me.

³⁴ And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

²⁶ And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life, but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

³³ Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth. ³⁴ But the witness which I receive is not from man; howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved. ³⁵ He was the lamp that burneth and shineth, and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.

²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

⁹ But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

⁵ And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

²⁶ But if we shall say, From men, we fear the multitude, for all hold John as a prophet.

⁴⁶ And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.

⁵ But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among people.

¹² And they sought to lay hold on him, and they feared the multitude, for they perceived that he spake the parable against them; and they left him, and went away.

⁷⁶ Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High; For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways,

²⁶ But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee. ²⁸ I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there is none greater than John the Baptist; yet he that is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

⁴¹ And many came unto him, and they said, John indeed did no sign; but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true.

²⁶ Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them, but without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

⁹ And He said: 'Go, and tell this people: hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they, seeing with their eyes, and hearing with their ears, and understanding with their heart, return, and be healed.'

¹¹ LORD, Thy hand was lifted up, yet they see not; they shall see with shame Thy zeal for the people; yea, fire shall devour Thine adversaries.

⁹ Stupefy yourselves, and be stupid! Blind yourselves, and be blind! ye that are drunken, but not with wine, that stagger, but not with strong drink. ¹⁰ For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes; the prophets, and your heads, the seers, hath He covered. ¹¹ And the vision of all this is become unto you as the words of a writing that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying: 'Read this, I pray thee'; and he saith: 'I cannot, for it is sealed'; ¹² and the writing is delivered to him that is not learned, saying: 'Read this, I pray thee'; and he saith: 'I am not learned.'

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the prudence of their prudent men shall be hid.

²⁸ And I look, but there is no man; even among them, but there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can give an answer.

¹⁹ Who is blind, but My servant? Or deaf, as My messenger that I send? Who is blind as he that is wholehearted, and blind as the LORD'S servant? ²⁰ Seeing many things, thou observest not; opening the ears, he heareth not.

¹⁸ They know not, neither do they understand; for their eyes are bedaubed, that they cannot see, and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

⁷ Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but My people know not the ordinance of the LORD. ⁸ How do ye say: 'We are wise, and the Law of the LORD is with us'? Lo, certainly in vain hath wrought the vain pen of the scribes. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken; Lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

¹⁵ And the LORD said unto me: 'Take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

¹⁷ Woe to the worthless shepherd that leaveth the flock! The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye; his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth; for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. ⁸ But ye are turned aside out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁹ Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept My ways, but have had respect of persons in the law.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see, and that they that see may become blind.

¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie: ¹² that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

⁸ And even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also withstand the truth. Men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further. For their folly shall be evident unto all men, as theirs also came to be.

³ knowing this first, that in the last days mockers shall come, walking after their own lusts,

¹² He frustrateth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands can perform nothing substantial. ¹³ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong.

⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

⁴ An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet. And he left them, and departed.

²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

³³ And they answered and said unto Jesus, We know not. And Jesus saith unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

¹⁵ So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and full of knowledge, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, tribe by tribe. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying: 'Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of any man; for the judgment is God's; and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.' ¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

¹⁸ Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, tribe by tribe; and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, even matters of controversy within thy gates; then shalt thou arise, and get thee up unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose. ⁹ And thou shall come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days; and thou shalt inquire; and they shall declare unto thee the sentence of judgment. ¹⁰ And thou shalt do according to the tenor of the sentence, which they shall declare unto thee from that place which the LORD shall choose; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall teach thee. ¹¹ According to the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do; thou shalt not turn aside from the sentence which they shall declare unto thee, to the right hand, nor to the left. ¹² And the man that doeth presumptuously, in not hearkening unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die; and thou shalt exterminate the evil from Israel. ¹³ And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously. ¹⁴ When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein; and shalt say: 'I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are round about me'; ¹⁵ thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose; one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee; thou mayest not put a foreigner over thee, who is not thy brother.

⁸ (80:9) Thou didst pluck up a vine out of Egypt; Thou didst drive out the nations, and didst plant it. ⁹ (80:10) Thou didst clear a place before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land. ¹⁰ (80:11) The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the mighty cedars with the boughs thereof. ¹¹ (80:12) She sent out her branches unto the sea, and her shoots unto the River. ¹² (80:13) Why hast Thou broken down her fences, so that all they that pass by the way do pluck her? ¹³ (80:14) The boar out of the wood doth ravage it, that which moveth in the field feedeth on it. ¹⁴ (80:15) O God of hosts, return, we beseech Thee; look from heaven, and behold, and be mindful of this vine,

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon; he gave over the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof brought in a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me; thou, O Solomon, shalt have the thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

¹ Let me sing of my well-beloved, a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well-beloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill; ² And he digged it, and cleared it of stones, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a vat therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. ³ And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard. ⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? ⁵ And now come, I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the fence thereof, and it shall be trodden down; ⁶ And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned nor hoed, but there shall come up briers and thorns; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. ⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah the plant of His delight; and He looked for justice, but behold violence; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed; how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto Me?

³³ Hear another parable; There was a certain man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. ³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first; and they did unto them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner, This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes? ⁴³ Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. ⁴⁴ And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. ⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. ⁴⁶ And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.

¹⁴ For it is as when a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

¹ And he began to speak unto them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a pit for the winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. ² And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. ³ And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. ⁴ And again he sent unto them another servant, and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. ⁵ And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some, and killing some. ⁶ Therefore having yet one son, his beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. ⁸ And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard. ⁹ What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. ¹⁰ Have ye not read even this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner, ¹¹ This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes? ¹² And they sought to lay hold on him, and they feared the multitude, for they perceived that he spake the parable against them; and they left him, and went away.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. ² Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bear more fruit. ³ Already ye are clean because of the word which I have spoken unto you. ⁴ Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, so neither can ye, except ye abide in me. ⁵ I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit; for apart from me ye can do nothing. ⁶ If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered, and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you. ⁸ Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit, and so shall ye be my disciples.

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase. ⁸ Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one; but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. ⁹ For we are God's fellow-workers; ye are God's husbandry, God's building.

⁸ that the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel; and he said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; ⁹ and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land. ¹⁰ And I said unto you: I am the LORD your God; ye shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but ye have not hearkened unto My voice.'

²⁴ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the check, and said: 'Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?'

¹³ yet the LORD forewarned Israel, and Judah, by the hand of every prophet, and of every seer, saying: 'Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by the hand of My servants the prophets';

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

¹⁹ Yet He sent prophets to them, to bring them back unto the LORD; and they admonished them, but they would not give ear. ²⁰ And the spirit of God clothed Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said unto them: 'Thus saith God: Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, He hath also forsaken you.' ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

¹⁵ And the LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by His messengers, sending betimes and often; because He had compassion on His people, and on His dwelling-place; ¹⁶ but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against Thee, and cast Thy law behind their back, and slew Thy prophets that did forewarn them to turn them back unto Thee, and they wrought great provocations.

³⁰ Yet many years didst Thou extend mercy unto them, and didst forewarn them by Thy spirit through Thy prophets; yet would they not give ear; therefore gavest Thou them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf doth not wither; and in whatsoever he doeth he shall prosper.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children - they received no correction; your sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

²⁴ Neither say they in their heart: 'Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth the former rain, and the latter in due season; that keepeth for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.'

² Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of the LORD.

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, speaking betimes and often; but ye have not hearkened. ⁴ And the LORD hath sent unto you all His servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often - but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear - ⁵ saying: 'Return ye now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers, for ever and ever; ⁶ and go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke Me not with the work of your hands, and I will do you no hurt.' ⁷ Yet ye have not hearkened unto Me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke Me with the work of your hands to your own hurt.

² 'Thus saith the LORD: Stand in the court of the LORD'S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD'S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word. ³ It may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent Me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings. ⁴ And thou shalt say unto them: Thus saith the LORD: If ye will not hearken to Me, to walk in My law, which I have set before you, ⁵ to hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I send unto you, even sending them betimes and often, but ye have not hearkened; ⁶ then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.'

²⁰ And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath-jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah; ²¹ and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt; ²³ and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the children of the people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

²⁶ 'The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there should be officers in the house of the LORD for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in the stocks and in the collar. ²⁷ Now therefore, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you,

¹⁵ I have sent also unto you all My servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often, saying: Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers; but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto Me.

¹⁵ And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

⁴ Then the princes said unto the king: 'Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them; for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.' ⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said: 'Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do any thing against you.' ⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard; and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the pit there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

⁴ Howbeit I sent unto you all My servants the prophets, sending them betimes and often, saying: Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. ⁵ But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to forbear offering unto other gods.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that early passeth away. ⁵ Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of My mouth; and thy judgment goeth forth as the light. ⁶ For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt-offerings.

³ Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Return unto Me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. ⁴ Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings; but they did not hear, nor attend unto Me, saith the LORD. ⁵ Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? ⁶ But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? so that they turned and said: Like as the LORD of hosts purposed to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath He dealt with us.'

⁹ 'Thus hath the LORD of hosts spoken, saying: Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassion every man to his brother; ¹⁰ and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart. ¹¹ But they refused to attend, and turned a stubborn shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts had sent by His spirit by the hand of the former prophets; therefore came there great wrath from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ And it came to pass that, as He called, and they would not hear; so they shall call, and I will not hear, said the LORD of hosts;

³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first; and they did unto them in like manner.

⁴⁷ Woe unto you! for ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ So ye bear witness and consent unto the works of your fathers; for they killed them, and ye build their tombs. ⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send unto them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her own brood under her wings, and ye would not!

¹⁶ Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

⁴ Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that ye should be joined to another, even to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.

¹ Israel was a luxuriant vine, which put forth fruit freely: as his fruit increased, he increased his altars; the more goodly his land was, the more goodly were his pillars.

³⁰ and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we should not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ Wherefore ye witness to yourselves, that ye are sons of them that slew the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them shall ye kill and crucify, and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you that all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her own chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One, of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers,

² but having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as ye know, at Philippi, we waxed bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God in much conflict.

³⁶ and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: ³⁷ they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

⁴ What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

³ It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way, and I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.'

⁷ It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return every one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD hath pronounced against this people.'

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that early passeth away.

⁸ How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? How shall I surrender thee, Israel? How shall I make thee as Admah? How shall I set thee as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me, My compassions are kindled together.

¹⁷ and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him.

³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; hear ye him.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life, but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ but when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁹ Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ¹² No man hath beheld God at any time; if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us: ¹³ hereby we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. ¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God.

¹⁸ And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹ And they said one to another: 'Behold, this dreamer cometh. ²⁰ Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say: An evil beast hath devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams.'

¹ Why are the nations in an uproar? And why do the peoples mutter in vain? ² The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed: ³ 'Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.' ⁴ He that sitteth in heaven laugheth, the Lord hath them in derision. ⁵ Then will He speak unto them in His wrath, and affright them in His sore displeasure: ⁶ 'Truly it is I that have established My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.'

⁸ Ask of Me, and I will give the nations for thine inheritance, and the ends of the earth for thy possession.

²⁷ (89:28) I also will appoint him first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.

² Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him. ³ And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written through the prophet, ⁶ And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah; For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel. ⁷ Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared. ⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child, and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him. ⁹ And they, having heard the king, went their way, and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. ¹⁰ And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. ¹¹ And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him, and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. ¹² And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. ¹³ Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee; for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. ¹⁴ And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt, ¹⁵ and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son. ¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men.

⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, We took no bread.

²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?

²¹ But the governor answered and said unto them, Which of the two will ye that I release unto you? And they said, Barabbas. ²² Pilate saith unto them, What then shall I do unto Jesus who is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. ²³ And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, Let him be crucified. ²⁴ So when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man, see ye to it. ²⁵ And all the people answered and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

⁴⁷ And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him:

⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say, Why did ye not believe him?

¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour, and they were afraid; for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.

² And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death, for they feared the people.

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him; and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do ye take account that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

²³ him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye having taken by the hands of lawless men, did crucify and slay:

¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, whereof we are witnesses.

¹⁷ and if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.

² whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds,

³⁷ But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

⁶ Therefore having yet one son, his beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. ⁸ And they took him, and killed him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard. ⁹ What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

¹² Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered without the gate.

³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land that Thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it. ³⁷ And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom Thou hast set over us because of our sins; also they have power over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.'

⁸ Ask of Me, and I will give the nations for thine inheritance, and the ends of the earth for thy possession. ⁹ Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.'

⁸ (21:9) Thy hand shall be equal to all thine enemies; thy right hand shall overtake those that hate thee. ⁹ (21:10) Thou shalt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger; the LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ (21:11) Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

⁴¹ They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

⁷ And when that king heard, he was wroth, and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

²⁷ But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

⁴⁶ And Paul and Barnabas spake out boldly, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you. Seeing ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

²² The stone which the builders rejected is become the chief corner-stone.

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a costly corner-stone of sure foundation; he that believeth shall not make haste.

⁹ For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone are seven facets; behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts: And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

⁴² Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner, This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?

⁵ And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth, and his hand was restored whole, as the other.

²³ And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁰ Have ye not read even this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner,

⁴¹ And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it,

³⁷ For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors; for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment.

⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice.

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me.

²⁵ But this cometh to pass, that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

¹¹ He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.

⁷ For you therefore that believe is the preciousness; but for such as disobey, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner, ⁸ and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, for they stumble at the word, being disobedient; whereunto also they were appointed.

¹⁴ And He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.'

³⁴ Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them; and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed; nor shall the kingdom be left to another people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, but it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter; and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.'

³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a stone of burden for all the peoples; all that burden themselves with it shall be sore wounded; and all the nations of the earth shall be gathered together against it.

³⁴ And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits.

⁴⁴ And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always; but the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.

¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

² And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her: 'I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, I pray thee, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead;

² And Jeroboam said to his wife: 'Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh; behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people. ³ And take with thee ten loaves, and biscuits, and a cruse of honey, and go to him; he will tell thee what shall become of the child.' ⁴ And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age. ⁵ Now the LORD had said unto Ahijah: 'Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to inquire of thee concerning her son; for he is sick; thus and thus shalt thou say unto her; for it will be, when she cometh in, that she will feign herself to be another woman.' ⁶ And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said: 'Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.

³² The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor suffer him to be condemned when he is judged.

¹² (38:13) They also that seek after my life lay snares for me; and they that seek my hurt speak crafty devices, and utter deceits all the day.

³ Say unto God: 'How tremendous is Thy work! Through the greatness of Thy power shall Thine enemies dwindle away before Thee.

¹⁵ (81:16) The haters of the LORD should dwindle away before Him; and their punishment should endure for ever.

²⁰ For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner ceaseth, and all they that watch for iniquity are cut off; ²¹ That make a man an offender by words, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just with a thing of nought.

¹⁹ But I was like a docile lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me: 'Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.'

¹⁸ Then said they: 'Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for instruction shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.'

¹⁰ For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on every side: 'Denounce, and we will denounce him'; even of all my familiar friends, them that watch for my halting: 'Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.'

¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one; for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius. ²⁰ And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? ²¹ They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. ²² And when they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

² and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate the governor.

² And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day, that they might accuse him.

¹³ And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they might catch him in talk. ¹⁴ And when they were come, they say unto him, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not the person of men, but of a truth teachest the way of God; Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ¹⁵ Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why make ye trial of me? bring me a denarius, that I may see it. ¹⁶ And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. ¹⁷ And Jesus answering said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marveled greatly at him.

⁵⁴ laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

²⁶ And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people; and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.

²⁸ They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium; and it was early, and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover. ²⁹ Pilate therefore went out unto them, and saith, What accusation bring ye against this man? ³⁰ They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee. ³¹ Pilate therefore said unto them, Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: ³² that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should die.

³ And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you; whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction shall not slumber.

⁷ Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it; for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.'

¹⁹ That respecteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of His hands.

² (12:3) They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour; with flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.

²¹ (55:22) Smoother than cream were the speeches of his mouth, but his heart was war; his words were softer than oil, yet were they keen-edged swords.

² and said unto Jeremiah the prophet: 'Let, we pray thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us; ³ that the LORD thy God may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.'

¹⁶ And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one; for thou regardest not the person of men.

⁴⁹ And straightway he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Rabbi, and kissed him. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

¹⁴ And when they were come, they say unto him, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not the person of men, but of a truth teachest the way of God; Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

² the same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him.

³⁴ And Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: ³⁵ but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him.

¹⁷ For we are not as the rest, corrupting the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, speak we in Christ.

¹⁰ For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? or am I striving to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ.

⁶ But from those who were reputed to be somewhat (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me; God accepteth not man's person)—they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me:

⁴ but even as we have been approved of God to be intrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who proveth our hearts. ⁵ For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness,

¹⁵ thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose; one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee; thou mayest not put a foreigner over thee, who is not thy brother.

¹³ Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, impost, or toll, and so thou wilt endamage the revenue of the kings.

¹⁹ And I decreed, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein. ²⁰ There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, impost, and toll, was paid unto them. ²¹ Make ye now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until a decree shall be made by me. ²² And take heed that ye be not slack herein; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?'

⁷ Since the days of our fathers we have been exceeding guilty unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to spoiling, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

⁴ There were also that said: 'We have borrowed money for the king's tribute upon our fields and our vineyards.

³⁷ And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom Thou hast set over us because of our sins; also they have power over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.'

²⁵ He saith, Yea. And when he was come into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers?

¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius. ²⁰ And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? ²¹ They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.

³⁷ After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the enrolment, and drew away some of the people after him; he also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

⁹ When your fathers tried Me, proved Me, even though they saw My work.

¹ And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites?

²² But Jesus perceiving their reasonings, answered and said unto them, Why reason ye in your hearts?

⁸ But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man that had his hand withered, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.

¹⁶ And others, trying him, sought of him a sign from heaven. ¹⁷ But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falleth.

⁵³ And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things, ⁵⁴ laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor.

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust himself unto them, for that he knew all men, ²⁵ and because he needed not that any one should bear witness concerning man, for he himself knew what was in man.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He that taketh the wise in their craftiness:

⁹ Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.

¹³ And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

²⁸ But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred shillings; and he laid hold on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me if thou owest anything.

² And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

¹ Now it came to pass in those days, there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be enrolled.

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.

²⁸ And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world; which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

⁸ while Paul said in his defense, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all. ⁹ But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me? ¹⁰ But Paul said, I am standing before Caesar's judgment-seat, where I ought to be judged; to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou also very well knowest. ¹¹ If then I am a wrong-doer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die, but if none of those things is true whereof these accuse me, no man can give me up unto them. I appeal unto Caesar. ¹² Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Thou hast appealed unto Caesar; unto Caesar shalt thou go.

³² And Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.

²² All the saints salute you, especially they that are of Caesar's household.

²¹ My son, fear thou the LORD and the king, and meddle not with them that are given to change;

²⁷ But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up, and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel; that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

²¹ They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marveled greatly at him.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken unto you rather than unto God, judge ye: ²⁰ for we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We must obey God rather than men.

⁶ For this cause ye pay tribute also, for they are ministers of God's service, attending continually upon this very thing. ⁷ Render to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

³¹ Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

¹³ Therefore, be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake; whether to the king, as supreme, ¹⁴ or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹¹ if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God, if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength as God supplieth; that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹² and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.

²² And when they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

³⁴ But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.

¹⁷ And as he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

³⁹ And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said. ⁴⁰ And they durst not any more ask him any question.

¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God:

¹⁰ For there are many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision,

⁶ And Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

¹² Then understood they that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

²³ On that day there came to him Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him, ²⁴ saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother, ²⁶ in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. ²⁷ And after them all, the woman died also. ²⁸ In the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. ²⁹ But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye are led astray, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, ³² I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. ³³ And when the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

¹⁸ And there come unto him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him, saying, ¹⁹ Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave a wife behind him, and leave no child, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁰ There were seven brethren; and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed, ²¹ and the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed, and the third likewise: ²² and the seven took her, and left no seed. Last of all the woman also died. ²³ In the resurrection, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife. ²⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, Is it not for this cause that ye are led astray, that ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven. ²⁶ But as touching the dead, that they are raised, have ye not read in the book of Moses, in the place concerning the Bush, how God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living; ye therefore do greatly err.

¹ And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, ² being sore troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

⁶ But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; touching the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. ⁷ And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit, but the Pharisees confess both.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

¹⁷ and their word will eat as doth a gangrene; of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ men who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already, and overthrow the faith of some.

⁸ And Judah said unto Onan: 'Go in unto thy brother's wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother.'

¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law: 'Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up'; for he said: 'Lest he also die, like his brethren.' And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said: 'She is more righteous than I; forasmuch as I gave her not to Shelah my son.' And he knew her again no more.

⁵ If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not be married abroad unto one not of his kin; her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her. ⁶ And it shall be, that the first-born that she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother that is dead, that his name be not blotted out of Israel. ⁷ And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate unto the elders, and say: 'My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother unto me.' ⁸ Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him; and if he stand, and say: 'I like not to take her'; ⁹ then shall his brother's wife draw nigh unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say: 'So shall it be done unto the man that doth not build up his brother's house.' ¹⁰ And his name shall be called in Israel The house of him that had his shoe loosed.

¹¹ And Naomi said: 'Turn back, my daughters; why will ye go with me? have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? ¹² Turn back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say: I have hope, should I even have an husband to-night, and also bear sons;

²⁰ And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife - he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness - they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

³⁰ Thus saith the LORD: Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days; for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, that knew not the LORD, nor yet the work which He had wrought for Israel.

⁴ One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh; and the earth abideth for ever.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die; but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

²⁷ And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment,

⁸ And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely; for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light.

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

² But, because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render unto the wife benevolence due her; and likewise also the wife unto the husband. ⁴ The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband; and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife. ⁵ Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto fasting and prayer, and come together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency. ⁶ But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment. ⁷ Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man hath his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that. ⁸ But I say to the unmarried and to widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. ⁹ But if they have not continency, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn. ¹⁰ But unto the married I give charge, yea not I, but the Lord, That the wife depart not from her husband ¹¹ (but should she depart, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband leave not his wife. ¹² But to the rest say I, not the Lord; If any brother hath an unbelieving wife, and she is content to dwell with him, let him not leave her. ¹³ And the woman that hath an unbelieving husband, and he is content to dwell with her, let her not leave him. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the husband; else were your children unclean, but now are they holy. ¹⁵ Yet if the unbelieving departeth, let him depart; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases; but God hath called us in peace. ¹⁶ For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou, O husband, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

³¹ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

⁴ Let marriage be had in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches and everlasting abhorrence. ³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn the many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

³² And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him, but whosoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in the present world, nor in that which is to come.

²⁹ But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye are led astray, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

²⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, Is it not for this cause that ye are led astray, that ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God?

³⁶ But watch ye at every season, making supplication, that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

²⁹ and shall come forth, they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of Jesus.

¹⁵ having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

⁵ which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

³⁵ Women received their dead by a resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection:

⁴ But thou hast a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments; and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

⁸ He will swallow up death for ever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the reproach of His people will He take away from off all the earth; for the LORD hath spoken it.

¹⁴ Shall I ransom them from the power of the nether-world? Shall I redeem them from death? Ho, thy plagues, O death! Ho, thy destruction, O nether-world! Repentance be hid from Mine eyes!

⁷ 'Thus saith the LORD of hosts: If thou wilt walk in My ways, and if thou wilt keep My charge, and wilt also judge My house, and wilt also keep My courts, then I will give thee free access among these that stand by.

³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.

²⁵ For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.

¹⁷ and if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. ¹⁸ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward. ¹⁹ For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God. ²⁰ For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope ²¹ that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. ²³ And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

²⁶ The last enemy that shall be abolished is death.

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption:

⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

²¹ who shall fashion anew the body of our humiliation, that it may be conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working whereby he is able even to subject all things unto himself.

¹³ But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope. ¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him. ¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first, ¹⁷ then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God. For this cause the world knoweth ye not, because it knew him not. ² Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. But we know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him, for we shall see him even as he is.

⁶ And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent forth into all the earth. ⁷ And he came, and he taketh it out of the right hand of him that sat on the throne. ⁸ And when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having each one a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. ⁹ And they sing a new song, saying, Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open the seals thereof; for thou was slain, and didst purchase us unto God with thy blood, men of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation, ¹⁰ and made them kings and priests unto our God, and they reign upon earth. ¹¹ And I saw, and I heard as it were the voice of many angels round about the throne and the living creatures and the elders, and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, ¹² saying with a great voice, Worthy is the Lamb that hath been slain to receive the power, and the riches, and wisdom, and might and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every creature which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all things that are in them, heard I saying, Unto him that sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb, be the blessing, and the honor, and the glory, and the dominion, for ever and ever. Amen. ¹⁴ And the four living creatures saying the amen, and the elders fell down and worshipped.

⁹ After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands, ¹⁰ and they cry with a great voice, saying, Salvation unto our God who sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb. ¹¹ And all the angels were standing round about the throne, and about the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, ¹² saying, Amen; Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

⁶ Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection; over these the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

⁴ and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more; for the first things are passed away.

² in the midst of the street thereof. And on this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve manner of fruits, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. ³ And there shall be no curse any more; and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be therein; and his servants shall serve him, ⁴ and they shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be no night there, and they need no lamp, neither light of sun, for the Lord God shall give them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.

⁹ And he saith unto me, See thou do it not; I am a fellow-servant with thee and with thy brethren the prophets, and with them that keep the words of this book; worship God.

⁷ And I will establish My covenant between Me and thee and thy seed after thee throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.

¹³ And, behold, the LORD stood beside him, and said: 'I am the LORD, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

²¹ so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God,

⁹ (32:10) And Jacob said: 'O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who saidst unto me: Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will do thee good;

² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said: 'I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.' ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said: 'Moses, Moses.' And he said: 'Here am I.' ⁵ And He said: 'Draw not nigh hither; put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.' ⁶ Moreover He said: 'I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

¹⁵ And God said moreover unto Moses: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.

¹⁶ And for the precious things of the earth and the fulness thereof, and the good will of Him that dwelt in the bush; let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the crown of the head of him that is prince among his brethren.

³ and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast; and they would not come. ⁴ Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I made ready my dinner, my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come to the marriage feast. ⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, one to his merchandise, ⁶ and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them. ⁷ And when that king heard, he was wroth, and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. ⁸ Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy. ⁹ Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast. ¹⁰ And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good; and the wedding was filled with guests. ¹¹ But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment; ¹² and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, take him away and cast him out into the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few chosen. ¹⁵ Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in his talk. ¹⁶ And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one; for thou regardest not the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius. ²⁰ And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? ²¹ They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. ²² And when they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

³⁰ And when forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. ³¹ And when Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight; and as he drew near to behold, there came unto him a voice of the Lord, ³² I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

⁵ O LORD, the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup, Thou maintainest my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. ⁷ I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel; yea, in the night seasons my reins instruct me. ⁸ I have set the LORD always before me; surely He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. ⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth; my flesh also dwelleth in safety; ¹⁰ For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to the nether-world; neither wilt Thou suffer Thy godly one to see the pit. ¹¹ Thou makest me to know the path of life; in Thy presence is fulness of joy, in Thy right hand bliss for evermore.

²³ (22:24) 'Ye that fear the LORD, praise Him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and stand in awe of Him, all ye the seed of Israel. ²⁴ (22:25) For He hath not despised nor abhorred the lowliness of the poor; neither hath He hid His face from him; but when he cried unto Him, He heard.' ²⁵ (22:26) From Thee cometh my praise in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before them that fear Him. ²⁶ (22:27) Let the humble eat and be satisfied; let them praise the LORD that seek after Him; may your heart be quickened for ever!

¹ A Psalm of praise; of David. I will extol Thee, my God, O King; and I will bless Thy name for ever and ever. ² Every day will I bless Thee; and I will praise Thy name for ever and ever.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me.

²⁵ Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live, ²⁶ and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more, but ye behold me; because I live, ye shall live also.

¹⁰ For the death that he died, he died unto sin once; but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God. ¹¹ Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²² But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁷ For none of us liveth to himself, and none dieth to himself. ⁸ For whether we live, we live unto the Lord, or whether we die, we die unto the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ died, and rose, and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

¹⁶ And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for ye are a temple of the living God, even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

⁴ for though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him through the power of God toward you.

³ For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory.

¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly; wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them a city.

¹⁵ Therefore are they before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple; and he that sitteth on the throne shall spread his tabernacle over them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, nor by any means shall they thirst any more, neither shall the sun strike upon them, nor any heat: ¹⁷ for the Lamb that is in the midst of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them unto fountains of waters of life; and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,

³⁴ But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together. ³⁵ And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him, and saying, ³⁶ Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? ³⁷ And Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And a second like unto it is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.

²⁸ And one of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together, and knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, What commandment is the first of all? ²⁹ And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one; ³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment. ³¹ And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. ³² And the scribe said unto him, Of a truth, Teacher, thou hast well said that he is one, and there is none other but he: ³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as himself, is much more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices. ³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

⁹ And there arose a great clamor; and the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man; but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

³⁴ And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

⁶ (9:5) For a child is born unto us, a son is given unto us; and the government is upon his shoulder; and his name is called Pele- joez-el-gibbor-Abi-ad-sar-shalom; ⁷ (9:6) That the government may be increased, and of peace there be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it through justice and through righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts doth perform this.

¹ And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall grow forth out of his roots. ² And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous shoot, and he shall reign as king and prosper, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The LORD is our righteousness.

¹⁵ In those days, and at that time, will I cause a shoot of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ¹⁶ In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is the name whereby she shall be called, the LORD is our righteousness.

²¹ Then may also My covenant be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, My ministers.

¹ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

⁴¹ Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, ⁴² saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. ⁴³ He saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet? ⁴⁵ If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?

³⁵ And Jesus answered and said, as he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that the Christ is the son of David? ³⁶ For David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord saith unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. ³⁷ David therefore himself calleth him Lord, and whence is he his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they that went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

⁴² Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?

³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Christ to sit upon his throne,

³ concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, even Jesus Christ our Lord,

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star.

¹ Now these are the last words of David: The saying of David the son of Jesse, and the saying of the man raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet singer of Israel: ² The spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and His word was upon my tongue.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD saith unto my lord: 'Sit thou at My right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.'

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein; and, His office let another take.

³⁴ For David ascended not into the heavens; but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ³⁵ Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

³³ that God hath fulfilled the same unto our children, in that he raised up Jesus, as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. ³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David. ³⁵ Because he saith also in another psalm, Thou wilt not give Thy Holy One to see corruption.

²⁵ For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet.

¹³ But of which of the angels hath he said at any time, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet?

⁷ Wherefore, even as the Holy Spirit saith, To-day if ye shall hear his voice,

¹ Why are the nations in an uproar? And why do the peoples mutter in vain? ² The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed: ³ 'Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.' ⁴ He that sitteth in heaven laugheth, the Lord hath them in derision. ⁵ Then will He speak unto them in His wrath, and affright them in His sore displeasure: ⁶ 'Truly it is I that have established My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.' ⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me: 'Thou art My son, this day have I begotten thee.

⁸ (21:9) Thy hand shall be equal to all thine enemies; thy right hand shall overtake those that hate thee. ⁹ (21:10) Thou shalt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine anger; the LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ (21:11) Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. ¹¹ (21:12) For they intended evil against thee, they imagined a device, wherewith they shall not prevail. ¹² (21:13) For thou shalt make them turn their back, thou shalt make ready with thy bowstrings against the face of them.

⁹ Let them that dwell in the wilderness bow before him; and his enemies lick the dust.

⁴ In return for my love they are my adversaries; but I am all prayer. ⁵ And they have laid upon me evil for good, and hatred for my love: ⁶ 'Set Thou a wicked man over him; and let an adversary stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him go forth condemned; and let his prayer be turned into sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; let another take his charge. ⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children be vagabonds, and beg; and let them seek their bread out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the creditor distrain all that he hath; and let strangers make spoil of his labour. ¹² Let there be none to extend kindness unto him; neither let there be any to be gracious unto his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; in the generation following let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be brought to remembrance unto the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before the LORD continually, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth. ¹⁶ Because that he remembered not to do kindness, but persecuted the poor and needy man, and the broken in heart he was ready to slay. ¹⁷ Yea, he loved cursing, and it came unto him; and he delighted not in blessing, and it is far from him. ¹⁸ He clothed himself also with cursing as with his raiment, and it is come into his inward parts like water, and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be unto him as the garment which he putteth on, and for the girdle wherewith he is girded continually.' ²⁰ This would mine adversaries effect from the LORD, and they that speak evil against my soul.

⁵ The Lord at thy right hand doth crush kings in the day of His wrath. ⁶ He will judge among the nations; He filleth it with dead bodies, He crusheth the head over a wide land.

¹⁴ And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and pure. ¹⁵ And out of his mouth proceedeth a sharp two-edged sword, that with it he should smite the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath of God, the Almighty. ¹⁶ And he hath on his garment and on his thigh a name written, KINGS OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. ¹⁷ And I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid heaven, Come, be gathered together unto the great supper of God, ¹⁸ that ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses and of them that sit thereon, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, and both small and great. ¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat upon the horse, and against his army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought the signs in his sight, wherewith he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast and them that worshipped his image; they two were cast alive into the lake of fire that burneth with brimstone: ²¹ and the rest were killed with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, even the sword which came forth out of his mouth; and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: behold, the young woman shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

²³ Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel, which is, being interpreted, God with us.

³¹ And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: ³³ and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. ³⁴ And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? ³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee; wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God.

¹¹ for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

⁵ whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness, God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen of angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.

¹⁰ And he called to him the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand;

¹ Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples, ² saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses seat;

⁵ { But all their works they do to be seen of men; and they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, ⁶ and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

³⁴ And he called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, Whosoever would follow after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³⁸ And in his teaching he said, Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and to have salutations in the marketplaces, ³⁹ and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts;

²⁰ Them that sin reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low; but he that is of a lowly spirit shall attain to honour.

¹⁵ And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.

⁴³ Woe unto you Pharisees! for ye love the chief seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces.

¹ In the mean time, when the many thousands of the multitude were gathered together, insomuch that they trod one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁷ And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats, saying unto them,

¹⁰ In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another, in honor preferring one another,

³ doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself, ⁴ not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. ⁵ Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

¹⁵ of whom do thou also beware, for he greatly withstood our words.

⁹ I wrote unto the church; but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

² To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right of the poor of My people, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!

⁶ if ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt; ⁷ then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever. ⁸ Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. ⁹ Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and offer unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye have not known, ¹⁰ and come and stand before Me in this house, whereupon My name is called, and say: 'We are delivered', that ye may do all these abominations?

⁷ In thee have they made light of father and mother; in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger; in thee have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

³¹ and come unto thee as the people cometh, and sit before thee as My people, and hear thy words, but do them not - for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness;

⁷ That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the humble; and a man and his father go unto the same maid, to profane My holy name;

⁴ Hear this, O ye that would swallow the needy, and destroy the poor of the land, ⁵ Saying: 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth corn? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances of deceit; ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the corn?'

² And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away; thus they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

⁸ But of late My people is risen up as an enemy; with the garment ye strip also the mantle from them that pass by securely, so that they are as men returning from war.

² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who rob their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

²² But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. ²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down unto Hades; for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, they would have remained until this day. ²⁴ But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

¹³ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside of them may become clean also. ²⁷ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but inwardly ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

⁴⁰ they that devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers, these shall receive greater condemnation.

¹² I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. ¹³ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment, than for you.

⁴⁷ { And that servant, who knew his lord's will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes, ⁴⁸ but he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And to whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom they commit much, of him will they ask the more.

⁵ For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness,

² For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, ⁴ traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof; from these also turn away. ⁶ For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women laden with sins, led away by diverse lusts,

¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

¹ Be not many of you teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment.
