³² And they said one to another, Was not our heart burning within us, while he spake to us in the way, while he opened to us the scriptures?

³ (39:4) My heart waxed hot within me; while I was musing, the fire kindled; then spoke I with my tongue:

³⁴ Let my musing be sweet unto Him; as for me, I will rejoice in the LORD.

⁹ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁷ Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

⁴ The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of them that are taught, that I should know how to sustain with words him that is weary; He wakeneth morning by morning, He wakeneth mine ear to hear as they that are taught.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy words were unto me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart; because Thy name was called on me, O LORD God of hosts.

⁹ And if I say: 'I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name', then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I weary myself to hold it in, but cannot.

²⁹ Is not My word like as fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

⁴⁵ Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures,

⁶³ It is the spirit that giveth life, the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life.

² and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, ³ opening and alleging that it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, and that this Jesus, whom, said he, I proclaim unto you, is the Christ.

²³ And when they had appointed him a day, they came to him into his lodging in great number, to whom he expounded the matter, testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
