³⁸ But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

²² And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother: 'And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.'

⁸ (75:9) For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, with foaming wine, full of mixture, and He poureth out of the same; surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.

²² Thus saith thy Lord the LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of His people: behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering; the beaker, even the cup of My fury, thou shalt no more drink it again;

³⁹ And coming forward a little, he fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee, remove this cup from me; howbeit not what I will, but what thou wilt.

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

⁴² saying, Father, if thou be willing to remove this cup from me—nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

²⁶ And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity; for we know not how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered,

³ Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may spend it in your pleasures.
