²¹ And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. ²² And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. ²³ And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.

I will seek it yet again.'

⁴ It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine: nor for princes to say: 'Where is strong drink?'

²² Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink;

⁷ But these also reel through wine, and stagger through strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel through strong drink, they are confused because of wine, they stagger because of strong drink; they reel in vision, they totter in judgment.

¹² 'Come ye, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to-morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.'

¹¹ Harlotry, wine, and new wine take away the heart.

⁵ On the day of our king the princes make him sick with the heat of wine, he stretcheth out his hand with scorners.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for gentleness allayeth great offences.

¹⁰ They shall walk after the LORD, who shall roar like a lion; for He shall roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west.

⁸ The lion hath roared, who will not fear? The Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

⁵ Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue, and in your virtue knowledge, ⁶ and in your knowledge self-control, and in your self-control patience, and in your patience godliness, ⁷ and in your godliness brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness love. ⁸ For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins. ¹⁰ Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble: ¹¹ for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

⁶ (64:7) They search out iniquities, they have accomplished a diligent search; even in the inward thought of every one, and the deep heart.

² For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.

⁸ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.

²⁵ The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire; thou shalt not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. ²⁶ And thou shalt not bring an abomination into thy house, and be accursed like unto it; thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.

¹³ Thou shalt not have in thy bag diverse weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not have in thy house diverse measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ A perfect and just weight shalt thou have; a perfect and just measure shalt thou have; that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

¹ A false balance is an abomination to the LORD; but a perfect weight is His delight.

¹¹ A just balance and scales are the LORD'S; all the weights of the bag are His work.

²³ Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

⁴ Hear this, O ye that would swallow the needy, and destroy the poor of the land, ⁵ Saying: 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth corn? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances of deceit; ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the corn?' ⁷ The LORD hath sworn by the pride of Jacob: Surely I will never forget any of their works.

¹⁰ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? ¹¹ 'Shall I be pure with wicked balances, and with a bag of deceitful weights?'

⁸ But for the fearful, and unbelieving, and sinners, and abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part shall be in the lake that burneth with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

³ (58:4) The wicked are estranged from the womb; the speakers of lies go astray as soon as they are born.

⁸ The way of man is froward and strange; but as for the pure, his work is right.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹⁶ By their fruits ye shall know them. Do men gather a grape cluster of thorns, or figs of thistles?

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.

⁶⁶ And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.

³⁴ Awake to soberness righteously, and sin not, for some have no knowledge of God; I speak this to move you to shame.

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.

¹⁰ Is there a thing whereof it is said: 'See, this is new'? - it hath been already, in the ages which were before us.

⁷ (12:8) As for the trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand. He loveth to oppress. ⁸ (12:9) And Ephraim said: 'Surely I am become rich, I have found me wealth; in all my labours they shall find in me no iniquity that were sin.'

⁶ that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter; because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.

¹² But wisdom, where shall it be found? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The deep saith: 'It is not in me'; and the sea saith: 'It is not with me.' ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold and glass cannot equal it; neither shall the exchange thereof be vessels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies, and all things desirable are not to be compared unto her.

²⁰ The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but the foolish die for want of understanding.

⁷ The lips of the wise disperse knowledge; but the heart of the foolish is not stedfast.

²³ A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth; and a word in due season, how good is it!

¹⁶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.

²¹ The wise in heart is called a man of discernment; and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

²⁴ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

¹² As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

⁹ And besides that Koheleth was wise, he also taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ Koheleth sought to find out words of delight, and that which was written uprightly, even words of truth. ¹¹ The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails well fastened are those that are composed in collections; they are given from one shepherd.

¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? ¹⁵ and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.

²⁶ (22:25) If thou at all take thy neighbour's garment to pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him by that the sun goeth down; ²⁷ (22:26) for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin; wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto Me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

¹⁶ To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the alien woman that maketh smooth her words;

³ For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;

⁵ That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the alien woman that maketh smooth her words.

¹⁰ And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart.

¹⁵ He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it; but he that hateth them that strike hands is secure.

²⁶ Be thou not of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts; ²⁷ If thou hast not wherewith to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

²⁷ For a harlot is a deep ditch; and an alien woman is a narrow pit.

¹³ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; and hold him in pledge that is surety for an alien woman.

⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat. ⁷ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves girdles.

¹² Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue; ¹³ Though he spare it, and will not let it go, but keep it still within his mouth; ¹⁴ Yet his food in his bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him. ¹⁵ He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again; God shall cast them out of his belly. ¹⁶ He shall suck the poison of asps; the viper's tongue shall slay him. ¹⁷ He shall not look upon the rivers, the flowing streams of honey and curd. ¹⁸ That which he laboured for shall he give back, and shall not swallow it down; according to the substance that he hath gotten, he shall not rejoice. ¹⁹ For he hath oppressed and forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up. ²⁰ Because he knew no quietness within him, in his greed he suffered nought to escape,

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷ 'Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.' ¹⁸ But he knoweth not that the shades are there; that her guests are in the depths of the nether-world.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.

¹⁵ He hath filled me with bitterness, He hath sated me with wormwood. ¹⁶ He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, He hath made me to wallow in ashes.

²⁵ choosing rather to share ill treatment with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season,

¹ And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying: 'Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?' ² And LORD said: 'Judah shall go up; behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.'

²⁹ And would that this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech.' And he said to Abimelech: 'Increase thine army, and come out.'

⁷ Behold, ye are all here, children of Israel, give here your advice and council.'

¹⁸ And the children of Israel arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and they said: 'Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?' And the LORD said: 'Judah first.'

²³ And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying: 'Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?' And the LORD said: 'Go up against him.'

²⁶ Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the LORD. ²⁷ And the children of Israel asked of the LORD - for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, ²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days - saying: 'Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?' And the LORD said: 'Go up; for to-morrow I will deliver him into thy hand.'

²⁶ Then Abner called to Joab, and said: 'Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?' ²⁷ And Joab said: 'As God liveth, if thou hadst not spoken, surely then only after the morning the people had gone away, every one from following his brother.'

¹⁷ Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying: 'Come, let us look one another in the face.' ¹⁸ And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying: 'The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying: Give thy daughter to my son to wife; and there passed by the wild beasts that were in Lebanon, and trod down the thistle. ¹⁹ Thou sayest - lo, thou hast smitten Edom; will thy heart therefore lift thee up to glory therein? abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle with evil, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?' ²⁰ But Amaziah would not hear; for it was of God, that He might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom. ²¹ So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah. ²² And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent. ²³ And Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

¹⁴ Where no wise direction is, a people falleth; but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

²² For want of counsel purposes are frustrated; but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

⁶ For with wise advice thou shalt make thy war; and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

⁸ Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

³¹ Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

¹⁶ Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand idly by the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

¹³ He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets; but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth a matter.

³ He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; but for him that openeth wide his lips there shall be ruin.

²⁹ A man of violence enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into a way that is not good.

⁸ The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

²¹ My son, fear thou the LORD and the king, and meddle not with them that are given to change;

²⁰ Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth. ²¹ As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. ²² The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

¹⁸ For they that are such serve not our Lord Christ, but their own belly, and by their smooth and fair speech they beguile the hearts of the innocent.

¹² Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

¹⁷ And he that curseth his father or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

⁹ For whatsoever man there be that curseth his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

¹⁶ Cursed be he that dishonoureth his father or his mother. And all the people shall say: Amen.

⁵ Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp over him shall be put out.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ For there will be no future to the evil man, the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

¹¹ There is a generation that curse their father, and do not bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young vultures shall eat it.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother; and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death.

¹³ Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, take him away and cast him out into the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

⁸ And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out.

¹⁰ For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother, and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death; ¹¹ but ye say, If a man shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is Corban, that is to say, Given to God, ¹² and ye no longer suffer him to do aught for his father or his mother, ¹³ making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have delivered; and many such like things ye do.

¹³ Wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame, wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness hath been reserved forever.

¹⁶ Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

⁴ Weary not thyself to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.

⁸ He that augmenteth his substance by interest and increase, gathereth it for him that is gracious to the poor.

²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings; but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be unpunished.

²² He that hath an evil eye hasteneth after riches, and knoweth not that want shall come upon him.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting riddle against him, and say: 'Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and that ladeth himself with many pledges!'

⁴ I cause it to go forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by My name; and it shall abide in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.'

² If ye will not hearken, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto My name, saith the LORD of hosts, then will I send the curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings; yea, I curse them, because ye do not lay it to heart.

⁹ But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.

³⁵ Vengeance is Mine, and recompense, against the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that are to come upon them shall make haste.

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on mine eye, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing of me this day.'

¹⁴ Wait on the LORD; be strong, and let thy heart take courage; yea, wait thou for the LORD.

³⁴ Wait for the LORD, and keep His way, and He will exalt thee to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

¹³ Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

²⁹ Say not: 'I will do so to him as he hath done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.'

³¹ But they that wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

²⁵ The LORD is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

³⁹ but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil; but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

¹⁷ Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men. ¹⁹ Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto the wrath of God; for it is written, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord.

¹⁵ See that none render unto any one evil for evil, but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.

²³ who, when he was reviled, reviled not again, when he suffered threatened not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

⁹ not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling, but contrariwise blessing, knowing that hereunto were ye called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

¹⁹ Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

¹⁰ Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

¹⁰ Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath.

⁷ (12:8) As for the trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand. He loveth to oppress.

⁵ Saying: 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth corn? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances of deceit;

⁴ Show me Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths.

¹² What man is he that feareth the LORD? him will He instruct in the way that He should choose.

²³ It is of the LORD that a man's goings are established; and He delighted in his way.

⁸ The wisdom of the prudent is to look well to his way; but the folly of fools is deceit.

⁹ A man's heart deviseth his way; but the LORD directeth his steps.

⁶ I do send him against an ungodly nation, and against the people of My wrath do I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. ⁷ Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few.

²³ O LORD, I know that man's way is not his own; it is not in man to direct his steps as he walketh.

²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy consorts and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified;

²⁸ for in him we live, and move, and have our being, as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

¹⁵ If any one commit a trespass, and sin through error, in the holy things of the LORD, then he shall bring his forfeit unto the LORD, a ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy valuation in silver by shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt-offering.

¹⁰ There shall no common man eat of the holy thing; a tenant of a priest, or a hired servant, shall not eat of the holy thing. ¹¹ But if a priest buy any soul, the purchase of his money, he may eat of it; and such as are born in his house, they may eat of his bread. ¹² And if a priest's daughter be married unto a common man, she shall not eat of that which is set apart from the holy things. ¹³ But if a priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and is returned unto her father's house, as in her youth, she may eat of her father's bread; but there shall no common man eat thereof. ¹⁴ And if a man eat of the holy thing through error, then he shall put the fifth part thereof unto it, and shall give unto the priest the holy thing. ¹⁵ And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they set apart unto the LORD;

⁹ And if it be a beast, whereof men bring an offering unto the LORD, all that any man giveth of such unto the LORD shall be holy. ¹⁰ He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good; and if he shall at all change beast for beast, then both it and that for which it is changed shall be holy.

³⁰ And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S; it is holy unto the LORD. ³¹ And if a man will redeem aught of his tithe, he shall add unto it the fifth part thereof.

² (30:3) When a man voweth a vow unto the LORD, or sweareth an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. ³ (30:4) Also when a woman voweth a vow unto the LORD, and bindeth herself by a bond, being in her father's house, in her youth, ⁴ (30:5) and her father heareth her vow, or her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father holdeth his peace at her, then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand. ⁵ (30:6) But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth, none of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand; and the LORD will forgive her, because her father disallowed her. ⁶ (30:7) And if she be married to a husband, while her vows are upon her, or the clear utterance of her lips, wherewith she hath bound her soul; ⁷ (30:8) and her husband hear it, whatsoever day it be that he heareth it, and hold his peace at her; then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand. ⁸ (30:9) But if her husband disallow her in the day that he heareth it, then he shall make void her vow which is upon her, and the clear utterance of her lips, wherewith she hath bound her soul; and the LORD will forgive her. ⁹ (30:10) But the vow of a widow, or of her that is divorced, even every thing wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand against her. ¹⁰ (30:11) And if a woman vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath, ¹¹ (30:12) and her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not, then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. ¹² (30:13) But if her husband make them null and void in the day that he heareth them, then whatsoever proceeded out of her lips, whether it were her vows, or the bond of her soul, shall not stand: her husband hath made them void; and the LORD will forgive her. ¹³ (30:14) Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may let it stand, or her husband may make it void. ¹⁴ (30:15) But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day, then he causeth all her vows to stand, or all her bonds, which are upon her; he hath let them stand, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them. ¹⁵ (30:16) But if he shall make them null and void after that he hath heard them, then he shall bear her iniquity. ¹⁶ (30:17) These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, being in her youth, in her father's house.

⁷ A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

⁴ (5:3) When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou vowest. ⁵ (5:4) Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. ⁶ (5:5) Suffer not thy mouth to bring thy flesh into guilt, neither say thou before the messenger, that it was an error; wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands?

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet ye rob Me. But ye say: 'Wherein have we robbed Thee?' In tithes and heave-offerings. ⁹ Ye are cursed with the curse, yet ye rob Me, even this whole nation. ¹⁰ Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall be more than sufficiency.

³³ Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths;

⁹ And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them: 'As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity, ¹⁰ when one told me, saying: Behold, Saul is dead, and he was in his own eyes as though he brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, instead of giving a reward for his tidings. ¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed, shall I not now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?' ¹² And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.

³¹ And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln; and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.

⁵ Whoso slandereth his neighbour in secret, him will I destroy; whoso is haughty of eye and proud of heart, him will I not suffer.

⁸ A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

²⁷ For the black cummin is not threshed with a threshing-sledge, neither is a cart-wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the black cummin is beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod. ²⁸ Is bread corn crushed? Nay, he will not ever be threshing it; and though the roller of his wagon and its sharp edges move noisily, he doth not crush it.

⁷ Then the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

⁸ But it is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty, that giveth them understanding.

³⁰ Sharp wounds cleanse away evil; so do stripes that reach the inward parts.

¹⁵ in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness therewith, and their thoughts one with another accusing or else excusing them),

² but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: ⁴ in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them. ⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ Seeing it is God, that said, Light shall shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight; but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹⁹ And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him: ²⁰ because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God,

⁷ (21:8) For the king trusteth in the LORD, yea, in the mercy of the Most High; he shall not be moved.

⁷ (61:8) May he be enthroned before God for ever! Appoint mercy and truth, that they may preserve him.

¹ A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and justice; unto Thee, O LORD, will I sing praises.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is expiated; and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

⁵ And a throne is established through mercy, and there sitteth thereon in truth, in the tent of David, one that judgeth, and seeketh justice, and is ready in righteousness.

³² Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and thou shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory, it is found in the way of righteousness.

²³ (9:22) Thus saith the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ (9:23) But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth, and knoweth Me, that I am the LORD who exercise mercy, justice, and righteousness, in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

¹⁴ I have written unto you, fathers, because ye know him who is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the evil one.

²⁵ When thou smitest a scorner, the simple will become prudent; and when one that hath understanding is reproved, he will understand knowledge.

⁹ Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be expiated, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in pieces, so that the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more.

⁵ But he was wounded because of our transgressions, he was crushed because of our iniquities: the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his stripes we were healed.

¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
