⁵ (140:6) The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah

⁹ A gin shall take him by the heel, and a snare shall lay hold on him.

⁴ The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith: 'He will not require'; all his thoughts are: 'There is no God.' ⁵ His ways prosper at all times; Thy judgments are far above out of his sight; as for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them. ⁶ He saith in his heart: 'I shall not be moved, I who to all generations shall not be in adversity.' ⁷ His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is mischief and iniquity. ⁸ He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; in secret places doth he slay the innocent; his eyes are on the watch for the helpless. ⁹ He lieth in wait in a secret place as a lion in his lair, he lieth in wait to catch the poor; he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him up in his net. ¹⁰ He croucheth, he boweth down, and the helpless fall into his mighty claws. ¹¹ He hath said in his heart: 'God hath forgotten; He hideth His face; He will never see.' ¹² Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Thy hand; forget not the humble.

⁸ Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me in the shadow of Thy wings, ⁹ From the wicked that oppress, my deadly enemies, that compass me about. ¹⁰ Their gross heart they have shut tight, with their mouth they speak proudly. ¹¹ At our every step they have now encompassed us; they set their eyes to cast us down to the earth. ¹² He is like a lion that is eager to tear in pieces, and like a young lion lurking in secret places. ¹³ Arise, O LORD, confront him, cast him down; deliver my soul from the wicked, by Thy sword;

⁴ (31:5) Bring me forth out of the net that they have hidden for me; for Thou art my stronghold.

⁷ For without cause have they hid for me the pit, even their net, without cause have they digged for my soul.

¹¹ (36:12) Let not the foot of pride overtake me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.

⁶ (57:7) They have prepared a net for my steps, my soul is bowed down; they have digged a pit before me, they are fallen into the midst thereof themselves. Selah

⁶⁹ The proud have forged a lie against me; but I with my whole heart will keep Thy precepts.

⁸⁵ The proud have digged pits for me, which is not according to Thy law.

¹¹⁰ The wicked have laid a snare for me; yet went I not astray from Thy precepts.

³ Be gracious unto us, O LORD, be gracious unto us; for we are full sated with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is full sated with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud oppressors.

⁹ Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, and from the gins of the workers of iniquity. ¹⁰ Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst I withal escape.

³ (142:4) When my spirit fainteth within me - Thou knowest my path - in the way wherein I walk have they hidden a snare for me.

⁵ A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.

¹⁸ Then said they: 'Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for instruction shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.'

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before Thee to speak good for them, to turn away Thy wrath from them.

²² Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them; for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

⁵³ And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press upon him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things, ⁵⁴ laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God: ²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why make ye trial of me?
