(20:2) The LORD answer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high; ² (20:3) Send forth thy help from the sanctuary, and support thee out of Zion; ³ (20:4) Receive the memorial of all thy meal-offerings, and accept the fat of thy burnt-sacrifice; Selah ⁴ (20:5) Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel. ⁵ (20:6) We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our standards; the LORD fulfil all thy petitions. ⁶ (20:7) Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the mighty acts of His saving right hand. ⁷ (20:8) Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will make mention of the name of the LORD our God. ⁸ (20:9) They are bowed down and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright. ⁹ (20:10) Save, LORD; let the King answer us in the day that we call.

²⁷ (32:28) And he said unto him: 'What is thy name?' ¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said: 'The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath been my shepherd all my life long unto this day, ¹⁶ the angel who hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.'

¹³ And Moses said unto God: 'Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them: The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me: What is His name? what shall I say unto them?' ¹⁴ And God said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I AM hath sent me unto you.' ¹⁵ And God said moreover unto Moses: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.

⁵ And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD. ⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed: 'The LORD, the LORD, God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; ⁷ keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and unto the fourth generation.'

⁷ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou quickenest me; Thou stretchest forth Thy hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand doth save me.

¹⁰ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is set up on high.

¹⁰ Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of His servant? though he walketh in darkness, and hath no light, let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.

⁷ Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is a time of trouble unto Jacob, but out of it shall he be saved.

³⁸ Then saith Jesus unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; abide ye here, and watch with me. ³⁹ And coming forward a little, he fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

⁷ Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

¹⁷ And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the LORD.

¹⁶ And he built twenty cubits on the hinder part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor unto the joists; he even built them for himself within, for a Sanctuary, even for the most holy place.

⁴⁴ If Thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatsoever way Thou shalt send them, and they pray unto the LORD toward the city which Thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for Thy name; ⁴⁵ then hear Thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

⁸ And they dwelt therein, and have built Thee a sanctuary therein for Thy name, saying: ⁹ If evil come upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house, and before Thee - for Thy name is in this house - and cry unto Thee in our affliction, and Thou wilt hear and save.

⁴ (3:5) With my voice I call unto the LORD, and He answereth me out of His holy mountain. Selah

¹⁷ Until I entered into the sanctuary of God, and considered their end.

⁶ Cry aloud and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.'

³² What then shall one answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and in her shall the afflicted of His people take refuge.

³⁴ By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and he shall not come unto this city, saith the LORD. ³⁵ For I will defend this city to save it, for Mine own sake, and for My servant David's sake.'

⁴ And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering;

²⁴ And there came forth fire from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt-offering and the fat; and when all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

²⁶ And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon the LORD; and He answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.

¹ Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt-offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.

¹⁹ (51:21) Then wilt Thou delight in the sacrifices of righteousness, in burnt-offering and whole offering; then will they offer bullocks upon Thine altar.

⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee; they shall come up with acceptance on Mine altar, and I will glorify My glorious house.

⁴ And he, fastening his eyes upon him, and being affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are gone up for a memorial before God.

² and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell.

⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

² (21:3) Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and the request of his lips Thou hast not withholden. Selah

⁴ So shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and He shall give thee the petitions of thy heart.

¹⁹ He will fulfil the desire of them that fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

²³ The desire of the righteous is only good; but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

²² And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always; but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.

²³ And in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily, I say unto you, if ye shall ask anything of the Father, he will give it you in my name.

²⁷ and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. ²⁸ And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

¹⁴ And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: ¹⁵ and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

³⁵ And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said: 'Rise up, O LORD, and let Thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate Thee flee before Thee.' ³⁶ And when it rested, he said: 'Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of the families of Israel.'

¹⁷ Then Eli answered and said: 'Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant thy petition that thou hast asked of Him.'

⁴⁵ Then said David to the Philistine: 'Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast taunted.

¹⁴ (9:15) That I may tell of all Thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion, that I may rejoice in Thy salvation.

⁵ (13:6) But as for me, in Thy mercy do I trust; my heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation.

⁹ And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD; it shall rejoice in His salvation.

⁴ (60:6) Thou hast given a banner to them that fear Thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah

¹⁵ The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly.

¹⁰ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the root of Jesse, that standeth for an ensign of the peoples, unto him shall the nations seek; and his resting-place shall be glorious.

¹ And in that day thou shalt say: 'I will give thanks unto Thee, O LORD; for though Thou was angry with me, Thine anger is turned away, and Thou comfortest me. ² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for GOD the LORD is my strength and song; and He is become my salvation.' ³ Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

⁹ And it shall be said in that day: 'Lo, this is our God, for whom we waited, that He might save us; this is the LORD, for whom we waited, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.'

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of victory, as a bridegroom putteth on a priestly diadem, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

⁵ For let all the peoples walk each one in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will exult in the God of my salvation.

⁴⁷ And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

³⁰ And hearken Thou to the supplication of Thy servant, and of Thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place; yea, hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place; and when Thou hearest, forgive.

⁴³ hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to Thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know Thy name, to fear Thee, as doth Thy people Israel, and that they may know that Thy name is called upon this house which I have built.

² The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed:

⁷ Make passing great Thy mercies, O Thou that savest by Thy right hand from assailants them that take refuge in Thee.

³⁵ (18:36) Thou hast also given me Thy shield of salvation, and Thy right hand hath holden me up; and Thy condescension hath made me great.

⁵⁰ (18:51) Great salvation giveth He to His king; and showeth mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed, for evermore.

⁸ The LORD is a strength unto them; and He is a stronghold of salvation to His anointed.

¹¹ (41:12) By this I know that Thou delightest in me, that mine enemy doth not triumph over me.

²⁰ (89:21) I have found David My servant; with My holy oil have I anointed him; ²¹ (89:22) With whom My hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him. ²² (89:23) The enemy shall not exact from him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. ²³ (89:24) And I will beat to pieces his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him.

¹⁵ For thus saith the High and Lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

⁹ Then shalt thou call, and the LORD will answer; thou shalt cry, and He will say: 'Here I am.' If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedness;

¹⁵ Look down from heaven, and see, even from Thy holy and glorious habitation; Where is Thy zeal and Thy mighty acts, the yearning of Thy heart and Thy compassions, now restrained toward me?

⁹ After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

³³ Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye now see and hear.

³⁶ Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.

¹⁰ be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

³¹ Him did God exalt with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.

⁵ And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude; and they came up, and pitched in Michmas, eastward of Beth-aven.

⁴ And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen; and David houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.

¹⁸ And the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew of the Arameans seven hundred drivers of chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.

¹⁰ But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and we have priests ministering unto the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work; ¹¹ and they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense; the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening; for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken Him. ¹² And, behold, God is with us at our head, and His priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD, the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.'

¹⁶ And the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

¹¹ (14:10) And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, there is none beside Thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength; help us, O LORD our God; for we rely on Thee, and in Thy name are we come against this multitude. Thou art the LORD our God; let not man prevail against Thee.'

¹² O our God, wilt Thou not execute judgment on them? for we have no might against this great multitude that cometh against us; neither know we what to do; but our eyes are upon Thee.' ¹³ And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. ¹⁴ Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, came the spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation; ¹⁵ and he said: 'Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat: thus saith the LORD unto you: Fear not ye, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. ¹⁶ To-morrow go ye down against them; behold, they come up by the ascent of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel. ¹⁷ Ye shall not need to fight in this battle; set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem; fear not, nor be dismayed; to-morrow go out against them; for the LORD is with you.' ¹⁸ And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. ¹⁹ And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with an exceeding loud voice. ²⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said: 'Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper.'

⁸ with him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles.' And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

¹⁶ A king is not saved by the multitude of a host; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength. ¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither doth it afford escape by its great strength.

¹⁷ (45:18) I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations; therefore shall the peoples praise thee for ever and ever.

³¹ The horse is prepared against the day of battle; but victory is of the LORD.

¹⁶ But ye said: 'No, for we will flee upon horses'; therefore shall ye flee; and: 'We will ride upon the swift'; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

¹ Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many, and in horsemen, because they are exceeding mighty; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

⁵ Thus saith the LORD: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

³¹ So perish all Thine enemies, O LORD; but they that love Him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

²¹ (34:22) Evil shall kill the wicked; and they that hate the righteous shall be held guilty. ²² (34:23) The LORD redeemeth the soul of His servants; and none of them that take refuge in Him shall be desolate.

¹ A Song of Ascents. They that trust in the LORD are as mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abideth for ever.

⁵ Happy is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, ⁶ Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is; who keepeth truth for ever; ⁷ Who executeth justice for the oppressed; who giveth bread to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners; ⁸ The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind; the LORD raiseth up them that are bowed down; the LORD loveth the righteous; ⁹ The LORD preserveth the strangers; He upholdeth the fatherless and the widow; but the way of the wicked He maketh crooked.

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose trust the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but its foliage shall be luxuriant; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy; though I am fallen, I shall arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD is a light unto me.

⁶ 'Truly it is I that have established My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.' ⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me: 'Thou art My son, this day have I begotten thee. ⁸ Ask of Me, and I will give the nations for thine inheritance, and the ends of the earth for thy possession. ⁹ Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.' ¹⁰ Now therefore, O ye kings, be wise; be admonished, ye judges of the earth.

⁷ (3:8) Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God; for Thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek, Thou hast broken the teeth of the wicked.

² (5:3) Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto Thee do I pray.

⁶ As for me, I call upon Thee, for Thou wilt answer me, O God; incline Thine ear unto me, hear my speech.

⁷ Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; that the King of glory may come in.

⁴ (44:5) Thou art my King, O God; command the salvation of Jacob.

¹² Yet God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

²⁵ We beseech Thee, O LORD, save now! We beseech Thee, O LORD, make us now to prosper! ²⁶ Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD; we bless you out of the house of the LORD.

⁹ And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest.

¹⁵ But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David, they were moved with indignation,
