⁵ (81:6) He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony, when He went forth against the land of Egypt. The speech of one that I knew not did I hear:

⁴ And Moses said: 'Thus saith the LORD: About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt;

¹² For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.

²⁷ that ye shall say: It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, for that He passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.' And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

²⁹ And it came to pass at midnight, that the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle.

⁸ And thou shalt tell thy son in that day, saying: It is because of that which the LORD did for me when I came forth out of Egypt. ⁹ And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thy hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in thy mouth; for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.

¹⁴ And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying: What is this? that thou shalt say unto him: By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage; ¹⁵ and it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man, and the first-born of beast; therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the womb, being males; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem. ¹⁶ And it shall be for a sign upon thy hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes; for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.'

⁴⁵ these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt;

⁴⁹ The LORD will bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as the vulture swoopeth down; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

¹⁵ (77:16) Thou hast with Thine arm redeemed Thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

⁶ That the generation to come might know them, even the children that should be born; who should arise and tell them to their children,

¹ (80:1) For the Leader; upon Shoshannim. A testimony. A Psalm of Asaph. (80:2) Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, Thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; Thou that art enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. ² (80:3) Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Thy might, and come to save us.

¹ When Israel came forth out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

¹¹ For with stammering lips and with a strange tongue shall it be spoken to this people;

¹⁵ Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD; it is an enduring nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

²⁰ and hallow My sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

⁶ That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments; but they are not grieved for the hurt of Joseph.

²¹ In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people, and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord. ²² Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving; but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe.
