¹¹ For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established,

³⁰ And now that thou art surely gone, because thou sore longest after thy father's house, wherefore hast thou stolen my gods?'

³⁹ And the soul of king David failed with longing for Absalom; for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

¹⁵ And David longed, and said: 'Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!'

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said: 'Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets, so shall ye prosper.'

¹⁵ who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: ¹⁶ for as yet he was fallen upon none of them; only they had been baptized into the name of Christ Jesus. ¹⁷ Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.

⁵ So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

²¹ Now after these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

²³ but now, having no more any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come unto you,

²⁹ And I know that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

³² that I may come unto you in joy through the will of God, and together with you find rest.

¹ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. ² Ye know that when ye were Gentiles ye were led away unto those dumb idols, howsoever ye might be led. ³ Wherefore I make known unto you, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God saith, Jesus is anathema, and no man can say, Jesus is Lord, but in the Holy Spirit. ⁴ Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord. ⁶ And there are diversities of workings, but the same God, who worketh all things in all. ⁷ But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal. ⁸ For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit: ⁹ to another faith, in the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, ¹⁰ and to another workings of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another discernings of spirits, to another diverse kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ but all these worketh the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each one severally even as he will.

²¹ Now he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God,

¹⁴ while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, long after you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.

⁴ For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if ye receive a different spirit, which ye did not receive, or a different gospel, which ye did not accept, ye do well to bear with him.

² This only would I learn from you. Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? ³ Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now perfected in the flesh? ⁴ Did ye suffer so many things in vain? if it be indeed in vain. ⁵ He therefore that supplieth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

⁸ Wherefore he saith, When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, And gave gifts unto men. ⁹ (Now this, He ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) ¹¹ And he gave some to be apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some, pastors and teachers, ¹² for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:

⁸ For God is my witness, how I long after you all in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.

²⁶ since he longed after you all, and was sore troubled, because ye had heard that he was sick:

¹ Wherefore, my brethren beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my beloved.

² and sent Timothy, our brother, and a minister of God, and our fellow-worker in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,

¹³ to the end he may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

¹⁷ comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and guard you from the evil one.

⁹ Be not carried away by diverse and strange teachings; for it is good that the heart be established by grace, not by meats, wherein they that occupied themselves were not profited.

¹⁰ And may the God of all grace, who called us unto his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, himself perfect you, established, strengthened, grounded.

¹² By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account him, I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand.

¹² Wherefore I will not neglect to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with you.

¹⁷ Ye therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own stedfastness. ¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.
