²⁴ And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had lain an oath on the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food until evening, that I may be avenged on my enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.

²⁹ No one devoted to destruction, who shall be devoted among men, shall be redeemed; but shall surely be put to death.

² And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

¹⁵ Cursed be the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen. ¹⁶ Cursed be he that dishonors his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen. ¹⁷ Cursed be he that removes his neighbor’s landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen. ¹⁸ Cursed be he that makes the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen. ¹⁹ Cursed be he that perverts the justice due the stranger, fatherless, and widow. ¹⁷ And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. ¹⁸ And you, by all means keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest you make yourselves accursed, when you take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. ¹⁹ But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.

²⁶ And Joshua charged them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that rises up and builds this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof with his firstborn, and with his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

²⁸ And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.

² Praise you the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.

³⁰ And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If you shall without fail deliver the children of Ammon into my hands, ³¹ Then it shall be, that whatsoever comes forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

¹ Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin as wife. ² And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept greatly; ³ And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be today one tribe lacking in Israel? ⁴ And it came to pass the next day, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. ⁵ And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpah, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

²⁷ But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath: therefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were brightened. ²⁸ Then answered one of the people, and said, your father strictly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food this day. And the people were faint. ²⁹ Then said Jonathan, My father has troubled the land: see, I ask you, how my eyes have been brightened, because I tasted a little of this honey. ³⁰ How much better, if the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for would there not been now a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?

⁴⁷ It is God that avenges me, and subdues the people under me.

⁹ A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

²² If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
