¹ And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ² Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a monster in the seas: and you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers. ³ Thus says the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over you with a company of many people; and they shall bring you up in my net. ⁴ Then will I leave you upon the land, I will cast you forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon you, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with you. ⁵ And I will lay your flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with your dead bodies. ⁶ I will also water with your blood the land in which you swim, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of you. ⁷ And when I shall put you out, I will cover the heaven, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light. ⁸ All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over you, and set darkness upon your land, says the Lord GOD. ⁹ I will also trouble the hearts of many people, when I shall bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known. ¹⁰ Yea, I will make many people appalled at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid of you, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall. ¹¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you. ¹² By the swords of the mighty will I cause your multitude to fall, the most terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall plunder the pomp of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed. ¹³ I will destroy also all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them. ¹⁴ Then will I make their waters clear, and cause their rivers to run like oil, says the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country shall be destitute of that of which it was full, when I shall strike all them that dwell in it, then shall they know that I am the LORD. ¹⁶ This is the lamentation with which they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, says the Lord GOD. ¹⁷ It came to pass also in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ¹⁸ Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the lower parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit. ¹⁹ Whom do you surpass in beauty? go down, and be placed with the uncircumcised. ²⁰ They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes. ²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of sheol with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword. ²² Asshur is there and all her company: their graves are about her: all of them slain, fallen by the sword: ²³ Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused terror in the land of the living. ²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit. ²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about her: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: they are put in the midst of them that are slain. ²⁶ There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitudes: their graves are round about them: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. ²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to sheol with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. ²⁸ Yea, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with them that are slain with the sword. ²⁹ There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, who with their might are laid by them that were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit. ³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit. ³¹ Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, says the Lord GOD. ³² For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD.

¹⁷ It came to pass also in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

²¹ And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, on the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.

⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, you are gone up: he stooped down, he crouched as a lion, and as a lioness; who shall rouse him up?

⁹ He crouched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.

¹³ You did divide the sea by your strength: you broke the heads of the serpents in the waters. ¹⁴ You broke the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion, and a charging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

¹ In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the fleeing serpent, even leviathan that twisted serpent; and he shall slay the monster that is in the sea.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Are you not him who has cut Rahab, and wounded the sea monster?

⁷ The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the nations is on his way; he has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

¹⁸ And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with water.

⁸ Egypt rises up like a flood, and its waters are moved like the rivers; and he says, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.

¹ Moreover take you up a lamentation for the princes of Israel, ² And say, What is your mother? A lioness: she lay down among lions, she nourished her cubs among young lions. ³ And she brought up one of her cubs: it became a young lion, and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men. ⁴ The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt. ⁵ Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her cubs, and made him a young lion. ⁶ And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men.

² Now, you son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyre;

³² And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for you, and lament over you, saying, What city is like Tyre, like that destroyed in the midst of the sea?

¹² Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyre, and say unto him, Thus says the Lord GOD; You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

³ Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.

¹⁶ This is the lamentation with which they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, even for Egypt, and for all her multitude, says the Lord GOD.

¹⁸ Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the lower parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit.

¹⁸ Seems it a small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but must you tread down with your feet the rest of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but must you foul the rest with your feet?

¹³ Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all its villages, shall say unto you, Have you come to take plunder? have you gathered your company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

¹¹ Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's cub, and none made them afraid? ¹² The lion did tear in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with prey, and his dens with torn flesh. ¹³ Behold, I am against you, says the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions: and I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall no more be heard.

¹² For man also knows not his time: as the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹⁶ Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says the LORD, and they shall catch them; and afterward will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

¹³ From above has he sent fire into my bones, and it prevails against them: he has spread a net for my feet, he has turned me back: he has made me desolate and faint all the day.

¹³ My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.

²⁰ And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will execute judgment on him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.

¹² When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard.

¹⁴ And make men like the fish of the sea, like the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? ¹⁵ They take up all of them with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: therefore they rejoice and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their dragnet; because by them their portion is luxurious, and their food plentiful. ¹⁷ Shall they therefore empty their net, and continually slay the nations without mercy?

⁴⁴ And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. ⁴⁵ Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. ⁴⁶ This day will the LORD deliver you into my hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

¹⁰ They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.

¹⁴ You broke the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

² The dead bodies of your servants have they given to be food unto the fowls of heaven, the flesh of your saints unto the beasts of the earth. ³ Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

⁹ Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kishon: ¹⁰ Who perished at Endor: they became as refuse for the earth.

⁵ The Lord at your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. ⁶ He shall judge among the nations, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall crush the heads over many countries.

¹⁹ But you are cast out of your sepulcher like an abominable branch, and as the garment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a corpse trodden underfoot.

⁶ They shall be left together for the fowls of the mountains, and for the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.

² For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he has utterly destroyed them, he has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stench shall rise up out of their corpses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. ⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. ⁵ For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. ⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the wild oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

²⁴ And they shall go forth, and look upon the corpses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorrence unto all flesh.

² And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshiped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for refuse upon the face of the earth.

³³ And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be refuse upon the ground.

⁵ And I will leave you thrown into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers: you shall fall upon the open fields; you shall not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given you for food to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.

¹² And strangers, the most terrible of the nations, have cut it off, and have left it: upon the mountains and in all the valleys its branches are fallen, and its boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from its shadow, and have left it. ¹³ Upon its ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon its branches:

⁴ You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you, and all your hordes, and the people that are with you: I will give you unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. ⁵ You shall fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD.

¹⁷ And, you son of man, thus says the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh, and drink blood. ¹⁸ You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. ¹⁹ And you shall eat fat till you are full, and drink blood till you are drunk, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. ²⁰ Thus you shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, says the Lord GOD.

¹⁹ Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

¹⁷ And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in midheaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ That you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.

¹² And strangers, the most terrible of the nations, have cut it off, and have left it: upon the mountains and in all the valleys its branches are fallen, and its boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from its shadow, and have left it.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD, In this you shall know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike with the rod that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

³ Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stench shall rise up out of their corpses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

⁷ And the wild oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

²⁰ And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horses’ bridles, for a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink; for they are deserving of it.

²¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. ²² And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: ²³ They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

⁵ Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out. ¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and its constellations shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in its going forth, and the moon shall not cause its light to shine.

⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

³ For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time for the nations.

¹⁸ At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the pomp of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity.

² A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great and strong people; there has not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, through the years of many generations.

³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes.

¹⁵ The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

⁹ And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth on a clear day:

²⁹ Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

²⁴ But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

¹² And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; ¹³ And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts its unripe figs, when it is shaken by a mighty wind.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury from my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and stagger, and go mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. ¹⁷ Then took I the cup from the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and its kings, and its princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ And all the foreign people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² And all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are beyond the sea, ²³ Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the farthest corners, ²⁴ And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mixed people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,

¹² And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.

¹⁰ Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is your judgment come. ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise any more: ¹² The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all citron wood, and all manner of vessels of ivory, and all manner of vessels of most precious wood, and of bronze, and iron, and marble, ¹³ And cinnamon, and incense, and myrrh, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. ¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after are departed from you, and all things which were luxurious and splendid are departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

¹⁴ The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. ¹⁶ Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; till your people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, whom you have purchased.

²⁴ Even all nations shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land? what does the heat of this great anger mean?

⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand takes hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

⁸ And at this house, which is exalted, every one that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?

⁹ We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go everyone into his own country: for her judgment reaches unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

¹⁶ Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their embroidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at you.

³⁵ All the inhabitants of the coastlands shall be astonished at you, and their kings shall be greatly afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.

⁹ In that day shall messengers go forth from me in ships to make the secure Ethiopians afraid, and great pain shall come upon them, as in the day of Egypt: for, lo, it comes.

² Wail, O cypress; for the cedar has fallen; because the mighty trees are ruined: wail, O you oaks of Bashan; for the thick forest has come down.

¹⁰ Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is your judgment come.

¹⁰ And say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

¹³ The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and strike the land of Egypt.

²⁴ The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. ²⁵ The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, says; Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings: even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him: ²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says the LORD.

⁷ For thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyre Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and many people.

⁴ And the sword shall come upon Egypt, and great pain shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt, and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down.

²² Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand. ²³ And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries. ²⁴ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man. ²⁵ But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young:

² For you have made of a city a heap; of a fortified city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built. ³ Therefore shall the strong people glorify you, the city of the terrible nations shall fear you.

⁷ Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon you, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and they shall defile your brightness.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her wealth, and take her plunder; and it shall be the wages for his army.

¹¹ He and his people with him, the most terrible of the nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: and they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain.

¹¹ I have therefore delivered it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with it: I have driven it out for its wickedness.

⁶ For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the earth, to possess the dwelling places that are not theirs. ⁷ They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed from themselves.

⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon you, and cut off man and beast out of you.

¹¹ No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.

¹² And I will make the rivers dry, and sell the land into the hand of the wicked: and I will make the land waste, and all that is in it, by the hand of strangers: I the LORD have spoken it.

² Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a monster in the seas: and you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.

⁵ And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth my hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.

⁴ And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will get glory over Pharaoh, and over all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.

¹⁸ And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten honor over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.

¹⁶ The LORD is known by the judgment which he executes: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The earth is the LORD'S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

¹⁷ Let them be confounded and troubled forever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: ¹⁸ That men may know that you, whose name alone is the LORD, are the most high over all the earth.

³³ He turns rivers into a wilderness, and the water springs into dry ground; ³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

⁷ And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and you shall know that I am the LORD.

¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her wealth, and take her plunder; and it shall be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt for his labor for which he served against it, because they wrought for me, says the Lord GOD.

¹⁷ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son:

³³ And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dies? ³⁴ Your hands were not bound, nor your feet put into fetters: as a man falls before wicked men, so fell you. And all the people wept again over him.

²⁵ And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD of hosts, Consider you, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for skillful women, that they may come:

¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, How are you destroyed, that were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city, which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who cause their terror to be on all that inhabit it!

¹ And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁹ What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise you? shall it declare your truth?

⁹ But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to sheol, to the sides of the pit.

⁹ Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen.

¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

⁶ Sigh therefore, you son of man, with breaking heart; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes. ⁷ And it shall be, when they say unto you, Why sigh you? that you shall answer, For the tidings; because it comes: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it comes, and shall be brought to pass, says the Lord GOD.

²⁰ When I shall bring you down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old, and shall set you in the lowest parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that you be not inhabited; and I shall give glory in the land of the living;

¹⁴ So that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their tops among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

¹⁶ I made the nations to shake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to sheol with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth.

²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of sheol with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit. ²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about her: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: they are put in the midst of them that are slain. ²⁶ There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitudes: their graves are round about them: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. ²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to sheol with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. ²⁸ Yea, you shall be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shall lie with them that are slain with the sword. ²⁹ There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, who with their might are laid by them that were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit. ³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit. ³¹ Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, says the Lord GOD. ³² For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD.

³ And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.

⁵ Therefore have I hewn them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and your judgments are as the light that goes forth.

⁸ Therefore I will lament and wail, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches.

⁴¹ And when he came near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

²⁶ And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?

³⁶ Your servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.

⁹ Sheol from beneath is excited for you to meet you at your coming: it stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. ¹⁰ They all shall speak and say unto you, have you also become weak as we? have you become like unto us? ¹¹ Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the sound of your harps: the maggot is spread under you, and the worms cover you. ¹² How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how are you cut down to the ground, who did weaken the nations! ¹³ For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the farthest sides of the north: ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. ¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to sheol, to the sides of the pit.

²⁵ Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will punish all them who are circumcised with the uncircumcised; ²⁶ Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the farthest corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

³ And say unto Tyre, O you that are situated at the entrance of the sea, which are a merchant of the people for many coastlands, Thus says the Lord GOD; O Tyre, you have said, I am of perfect beauty. ⁴ Your borders are in the midst of the seas, your builders have perfected your beauty.

¹⁰ You shall die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD.

¹² Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyre, and say unto him, Thus says the Lord GOD; You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. ¹³ You have been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of your timbrels and of your pipes was prepared in you in the day that you were created. ¹⁴ You are the anointed cherub that covers; and I have set you so: you were upon the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. ¹⁵ You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, till iniquity was found in you. ¹⁶ By the multitude of your trade they have filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I will cast you as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. ¹⁷ Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty, you have corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor: I will cast you to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you.

² Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom are you like in your greatness?

¹⁸ To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shall you be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the lower parts of the earth: you shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD.

²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.

¹⁹ He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

⁸ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon you, and cut off man and beast out of you. ⁹ And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he has said, The river is mine, and I have made it. ¹⁰ Behold, therefore I am against you, and against your rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia. ¹¹ No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. ¹² And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.

³⁰ But if the LORD makes a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth, and swallows them up, with all that belongs unto them, and they go down alive into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that belonged unto Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that belonged to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into sheol, and all the nations that forget God.

¹⁵ Let death seize upon them, and let them go down alive into the grave: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

³¹ And the strong shall be as tinder, and the work of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them .

²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

²⁴ And ships shall come from the coast of Kittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish forever.

³³ For Tophet was ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he has made it deep and large: its pyre is fire with much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, does kindle it.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and struck in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead corpses. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

³ Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with forest shade, and of a high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. ⁴ The waters made it great, the deep set it up on high with its rivers running round about its plants, and sent out its little rivers unto all the trees of the field. ⁵ Therefore its height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when it shot forth. ⁶ All the fowls of heaven made their nests in its boughs, and under its branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under its shadow dwelt all great nations. ⁷ Thus was it beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches: for its root reached to great waters. ⁸ The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it: the fir trees were not like its boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like its branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto it in its beauty. ⁹ I have made it beautiful by the multitude of its branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied it. ¹⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Because you have lifted up yourself in height, and it has shot up its top among the thick boughs, and its heart is lifted up in its height; ¹¹ I have therefore delivered it into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with it: I have driven it out for its wickedness. ¹² And strangers, the most terrible of the nations, have cut it off, and have left it: upon the mountains and in all the valleys its branches are fallen, and its boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth have gone down from its shadow, and have left it. ¹³ Upon its ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon its branches: ¹⁴ So that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their tops among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. ¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; In the day when it went down to the grave I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for it, and I restrained its floods, and the great waters were held back: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for it, and all the trees of the field fainted because of it. ¹⁶ I made the nations to shake at the sound of its fall, when I cast it down to sheol with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth. ¹⁷ They also went down into sheol with it with them that are slain with the sword; and they that were its arm, that dwelt under its shadow in the midst of the nations. ¹⁸ To whom are you thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shall you be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the lower parts of the earth: you shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword. ⁷ The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows them that trust in him. ⁸ But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of its place, and darkness shall pursue his enemies. ⁹ What do you imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. ¹⁰ For while they are entangled together as thorns, and while they are drunk as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry. ¹¹ There has one come out of you, that imagines evil against the LORD, a wicked counselor. ¹² Thus says the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.

¹ Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the victim departs not; ² The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the prancing horses, and of the jolting chariots. ³ The horseman lifts up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of dead bodies; and there is no end of their corpses; they stumble over the corpses: ⁴ Because of the multitude of the harlotries of the seductive harlot, the mistress of sorceries, that sells nations through her harlotries, and peoples through her sorceries. ⁵ Behold, I am against you, says the LORD of hosts; and I will uncover your skirts over your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame. ⁶ And I will cast abominable filth upon you, and make you vile, and will make you a spectacle. ⁷ And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon you shall flee from you, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? where shall I seek comforters for you? ⁸ Are you better than No Amon, that was situated among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was the sea? ⁹ Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was without limit; Put and Lubim were your helpers. ¹⁰ Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains. ¹¹ You also shall be drunk: you shall be hidden, you also shall seek refuge from the enemy. ¹² All your strongholds shall be like fig trees with the first ripe figs: if they are shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater. ¹³ Behold, your troops in the midst of you are women: the gates of your land shall be set wide open unto your enemies: the fire shall devour the bars of your gates. ¹⁴ Draw your water for the siege, fortify your strongholds: go into the clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick kiln. ¹⁵ There shall the fire devour you; the sword shall cut you off, it shall eat you up like the locust: make yourself many like the locust, make yourself many like the swarming locusts. ¹⁶ You have multiplied your merchants more than the stars of heaven: the locust plunders, and flies away. ¹⁷ Your princes are like the locusts, and your officials like the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges on the cold day, but when the sun arises they flee away, and their place is not known where they are. ¹⁸ Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: your nobles shall dwell in the dust: your people are scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathers them. ¹⁹ There is no healing of your bruise; your wound is grievous: all that hear the report of you shall clap their hands over you: for upon whom has not your wickedness passed continually?

¹³ Man knows not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

¹³ I would have fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

⁹ I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

⁵ I cried unto you, O LORD: I said, you are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to sheol, to the sides of the pit. ¹⁶ They that see you shall gaze upon you, and consider you, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

¹¹ I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

¹² I, even I, am he that comforts you: who are you, that you should be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass; ¹³ And forget the LORD your maker, that has stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; you have feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised plots against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit. ²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about her: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: they are put in the midst of them that are slain. ²⁶ There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitudes: their graves are round about them: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. ²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to sheol with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

³² For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord GOD.

¹ And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim;

¹⁷ The sons of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram, and Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Meshech.

¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, who shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the coastlands of the sea.

²⁴ For shame has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters. ²⁵ We lie down in our shame, and our disgrace covers us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

²⁵ And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,

³⁴ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, ³⁵ Thus says the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. ³⁶ And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come. ³⁷ For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those that seek their life: and I will bring disaster upon them, even my fierce anger, says the LORD; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them: ³⁸ And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from there the king and the princes, says the LORD. ³⁹ But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, says the LORD.

⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than you: yea, be disgraced also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.

⁵⁴ That you may bear your own shame, and may be disgraced in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort unto them.

²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are round about her: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: they are put in the midst of them that are slain.

³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who have gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit.

²⁹ And I will raise up for them a garden of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in the land, neither bear the shame of the nations any more.

⁶ Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because you have borne the shame of the nations: ⁷ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; I have lifted up my hand, Surely the nations that are about you, they shall bear their shame.

¹⁵ Neither will I cause men to hear in you the shame of the nations any more, neither shall you bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shall you cause your nation to fall any more, says the Lord GOD.

²⁶ After they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses by which they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.

¹³ And they shall not come near unto me, to serve the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy place: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.

² And I saw in a vision; and it came to pass, when I saw, that I was at Shushan in the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in a vision, and I was by the river of Ulai.

¹⁶ You are filled with shame instead of glory: drink you also, and let your shame be exposed: the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned against you, and utter shame shall be upon your glory.

²⁰ Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

⁴ Then said Saul to his armorbearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was greatly afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.

⁷ In that you have brought into my sanctuary foreigners, uncircumcised in heart, and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to pollute it, even my house, when you offer my food, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant because of all your abominations.

⁹ Thus says the Lord GOD; No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any foreigner that is among the children of Israel.

⁴ And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, who after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

⁵¹ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you.

²² Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

¹³ For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then would I have been at rest, ¹⁴ With kings and counselors of the earth, who built desolate places for themselves; ¹⁵ Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:

¹¹ His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

⁷ When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever:

⁹ For, lo, your enemies, O LORD, for, lo, your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, so let it come into his body like water, and like oil into his bones.

¹⁸ All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own tomb. ¹⁹ But you are cast out of your sepulcher like an abominable branch, and as the garment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a corpse trodden underfoot.

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

²⁴ I said therefore unto you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sins.

⁴ (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;)

³⁴ You saw till a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them: and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray you, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom.

¹ Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. ² Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite; ³ And Basemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebaioth. ⁴ And Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz; and Basemath bore Reuel; ⁵ And Oholibamah bore Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, who were born unto him in the land of Canaan. ⁶ And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land in which they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle. ⁸ Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom. ⁹ And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir: ¹⁰ These are the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau. ¹¹ And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz. ¹² And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bore to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife. ¹³ And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Basemath Esau's wife. ¹⁴ And these were the sons of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bore to Esau Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah. ¹⁵ These were chiefs of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz, ¹⁶ Chief Korah, chief Gatam, and chief Amalek: these are the chiefs that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah. ¹⁷ And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah: these are the chiefs that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath Esau's wife. ¹⁸ And these are the sons of Oholibamah Esau's wife; chief Jeush, chief Jalam, chief Korah: these were the chiefs that came of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife. ¹⁹ These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their chiefs.

¹ Come near, you nations, to hear; and hearken, you people: let the earth hear, and all that is in it; the world, and all things that come forth of it. ² For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he has utterly destroyed them, he has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stench shall rise up out of their corpses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. ⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. ⁵ For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. ⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the wild oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. ⁸ For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompense for the controversy of Zion. ⁹ And its streams shall be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone, and its land shall become burning pitch. ¹⁰ It shall not be quenched night nor day; its smoke shall go up forever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it forever and ever. ¹¹ But the hawk and the porcupine shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness. ¹² They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing. ¹³ And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in its fortresses: and it shall be a habitation of jackals, and a court for ostriches. ¹⁴ The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the hyenas, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; the night creature also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. ¹⁵ There shall the owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the kites also be gathered, everyone with her mate. ¹⁶ Seek you from out of the book of the LORD, and read: not one of these shall fail, none shall lack her mate: for my mouth has commanded it, and his spirit has gathered them. ¹⁷ And he has cast the lot for them, and his hand has divided it unto them by measure: they shall possess it forever, from generation to generation shall they dwell in it.

¹ Who is this that comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. ² Why are you red in your apparel, and your garments like him that treads in the winepress? ³ I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in my anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. ⁴ For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come. ⁵ And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. ⁶ And I will tread down the people in my anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

⁷ Concerning Edom, thus says the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? has counsel perished from the prudent? has their wisdom vanished? ⁸ Flee you, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I will punish him. ⁹ If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough. ¹⁰ But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his descendants are plundered, and his brethren, and his neighbors, and he is not. ¹¹ Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me. ¹² For thus says the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunk; and are you he that shall altogether go unpunished? you shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it. ¹³ For I have sworn by myself, says the LORD, that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all its cities shall be perpetual wastes. ¹⁴ I have heard a rumor from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the nations, saying, Gather you together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. ¹⁵ For, lo, I will make you small among the nations, and despised among men. ¹⁶ Your fierceness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, that hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD. ¹⁷ Also Edom shall be a desolation: everyone that goes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all its plagues. ¹⁸ As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighboring cities, says the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it. ¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the thickets of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will arraign me? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me? ²⁰ Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them. ²¹ The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry its noise was heard at the Red sea. ²² Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

¹ The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, ² Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them; ³ And say unto the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD; Because you said, Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity; ⁴ Behold, therefore I will deliver you to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their encampments in you, and make their dwellings in you: they shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk. ⁵ And I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels, and the Ammonites a resting place for flocks: and you shall know that I am the LORD. ⁶ For thus says the Lord GOD; Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your disdain against the land of Israel; ⁷ Behold, therefore I will stretch out my hand upon you, and will deliver you for a plunder to the nations; and I will cut you off from the people, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries: I will destroy you; and you shall know that I am the LORD. ⁸ Thus says the Lord GOD; Because Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the nations; ⁹ Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from its cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim, ¹⁰ Unto the men of the east together with the Ammonites, and will give them as a possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations. ¹¹ And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD. ¹² Thus says the Lord GOD; Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged itself upon them; ¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out my hand against Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword. ¹⁴ And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy for the old hatred; ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will stretch out my hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites, and destroy the remnant of the seacoast. ¹⁷ And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.

¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ² Son of man, set your face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it, ³ And say unto it, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against you, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you most desolate. ⁴ I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate, and you shall know that I am the LORD. ⁵ Because you have had a perpetual hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity came to an end: ⁶ Therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I will prepare you unto blood, and blood shall pursue you: since you have not hated blood, even blood shall pursue you. ⁷ Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passes out and him that returns. ⁸ And I will fill its mountains with its slain men: in your hills, and in your valleys, and in all your rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword. ⁹ I will make you perpetual desolations, and your cities shall not return: and you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁰ Because you have said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them; although the LORD was there: ¹¹ Therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I will even do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have used out of your hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged you. ¹² And you shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given to us to consume. ¹³ Thus with your mouth you have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them. ¹⁴ Thus says the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. ¹⁵ As you did rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto you: you shall be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

¹¹ Thus says the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever: ¹² But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

¹ The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a message from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, Arise you, and let us rise up against her in battle. ² Behold, I have made you small among the nations: you are greatly despised. ³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the LORD. ⁵ If thieves came to you, if robbers by night, (how are you cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some grapes? ⁶ How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his treasures sought out! ⁷ All the men in your confederacy have forced you even to the border: the men that were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you; they that eat your bread have laid a trap under you: there is no understanding of it. ⁸ Shall I not in that day, says the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountains of Esau? ⁹ And your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mountains of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

³ And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the jackals of the wilderness. ⁴ If Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation forever.

²² And all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are beyond the sea,

²⁶ And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

²¹ Son of man, set your face against Sidon, and prophesy against it,

⁶ Gomer, and all his hordes; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his hordes: and many people with you.

¹⁵ And you shall come from your place out of the north parts, you, and many people with you, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:

² And I will turn you back, and leave but the sixth part of you, and will cause you to come up from the far north, and will bring you upon the mountains of Israel:

¹³ What thing shall I take to witness for you? what thing shall I liken to you, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? for your run is vast as the sea: who can heal you?

²² Yet, behold, in it shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and you shall see their way and their doings: and you shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

⁵ And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

²³ For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his majesty I could not endure.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury from my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and stagger, and go mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. ¹⁷ Then took I the cup from the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and its kings, and its princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ And all the foreign people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² And all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are beyond the sea, ²³ Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the farthest corners, ²⁴ And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mixed people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. ²⁷ Therefore you shall say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink, and be drunken, and vomit, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then shall you say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts; You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, says the LORD of hosts. ³⁰ Therefore prophesy against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. ³¹ A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, says the LORD. ³² Thus says the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the farthest parts of the earth. ³³ And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be refuse upon the ground. ³⁴ Wail, you shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, you leaders of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are come; and you shall fall like a choice vessel. ³⁵ And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the leaders of the flock to escape. ³⁶ A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a wailing of the leaders of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD has plundered their pasture. ³⁷ And the peaceful habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD. ³⁸ He has forsaken his lair, like a lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.

⁶ I have cut off the nations: their fortresses are desolate; I laid waste their streets, so that none passes by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, there is no inhabitant. ⁷ I said, Surely you will fear me, you will receive instruction; so her dwelling should not be cut off, no matter how I punished her: but they rose early, and corrupted all their deeds. ⁸ Therefore wait upon me, says the LORD, until the day that I rise up for plunder: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them my indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the generals, and the mighty men, and every slave, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?
