²⁴ Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand;

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had given them up?

¹⁴ And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of plunderers that plundered them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

⁴⁰ Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, so much that he abhorred his own inheritance. ⁴¹ And he gave them into the hand of the nations; and they that hated them ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

⁵ O Assyria, the rod of my anger, the staff in their hand is my indignation. ⁶ I will send him against a godless nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

¹⁵ For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: but you would not.

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create calamity: I the LORD do all these things.

⁶ I was angry with my people, I have profaned my inheritance, and given them into your hand: you did show them no mercy; upon the aged have you very heavily laid your yoke.

¹ Thus says the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have you sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. ² Why, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stink, because there is no water, and die of thirst.

¹ Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear dull, that it cannot hear: ² But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

¹⁰ But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

¹⁵ Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from afar, O house of Israel, says the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you know not, neither understand what they say.

⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts; Because you have not heard my words, ⁹ Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says the LORD, and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

¹⁴ The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand: they are woven together, and come up upon my neck: he has made my strength to fall, the Lord has delivered me into their hands, from whom I am not able to rise up.

¹⁸ The LORD is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow: my virgins and my young men have gone into captivity.

⁶ Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be calamity in a city, and the LORD has not done it?

⁷ But when the king heard thereof, he was angry: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
