¹ Against Moab thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is plundered: Kiriathaim is put to shame and taken: the stronghold is put to shame and dismayed. ² There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also you shall be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue you. ³ A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, plundering and great destruction. ⁴ Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard. ⁵ For in the ascent of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction. ⁶ Flee, save your lives, and be like the bush in the wilderness. ⁷ For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you shall also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together. ⁸ And the plunderer shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken. ⁹ Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for its cities shall be desolate, without any to dwell in them. ¹⁰ Cursed is he that does the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed is he that keeps back his sword from blood. ¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his dregs, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed. ¹² Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will send unto him wine tippers, that shall tip him over, and shall empty his vessels, and break his jars. ¹³ And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence. ¹⁴ How say you, We are mighty and strong men for the war? ¹⁵ Moab is plundered, and gone up out of her cities, and her chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. ¹⁶ The calamity of Moab is near at hand, and his affliction hastens quickly. ¹⁷ All you that are about him, bemoan him; and all you that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod! ¹⁸ You daughter that does inhabit Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the plunderer of Moab shall come upon you, and he shall destroy your strongholds. ¹⁹ O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and watch; ask him that flees, and her that escapes, and say, What has happened? ²⁰ Moab is put to shame; for it is broken down: wail and cry; tell it in Arnon, that Moab is plundered, ²¹ And judgment has come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahzah, and upon Mephaath, ²² And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim, ²³ And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon, ²⁴ And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. ²⁵ The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, says the LORD. ²⁶ Make him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. ²⁷ For was not Israel a derision unto you? was he found among thieves? for when you spoke of him, you wagged your head. ²⁸ O you that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that makes her nest in the sides of the cave’s mouth. ²⁹ We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceedingly proud) his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart. ³⁰ I know his wrath, says the LORD; but it shall not be so; his lies shall not so effect it. ³¹ Therefore will I wail for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; my heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres. ³² O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for you with the weeping of Jazer: your plants have gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the plunderer has fallen upon your summer fruit and upon your vintage. ³³ And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting. ³⁴ From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, like a heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate. ³⁵ Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, says the LORD, he that offers in the high places, and he that burns incense to his gods. ³⁶ Therefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and my heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he has gotten have perished. ³⁷ For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped: upon all the hands shall be gashes, and upon the loins sackcloth. ³⁸ There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in its streets: for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure, says the LORD. ³⁹ They shall wail, saying, How it is broken down! how has Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismay to all them about him. ⁴⁰ For thus says the LORD; Behold, he shall fly as an eagle. and shall spread his wings over Moab. ⁴¹ Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in birth pangs. ⁴² And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he has magnified himself against the LORD. ⁴³ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon you, O inhabitant of Moab, says the LORD. ⁴⁴ He that flees from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that gets up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their punishment, says the LORD. ⁴⁵ They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of exhaustion: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the brow of Moab, the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones. ⁴⁶ Woe be unto you, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perish: for your sons are taken captives, and your daughters captives. ⁴⁷ Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, says the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.

³⁷ And the firstborn bore a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not near: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall crush the forehead of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

³ Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

³⁷ And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim, ³⁸ And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Sibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they built.

⁴⁷ And they set out from Almondiblathaim, and encamped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo.

¹⁰ And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

¹ The burden concerning Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; ² He has gone up to the temple, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall wail over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off. ³ In their streets they shall clothe themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, everyone shall wail, weeping abundantly. ⁴ And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be troubled unto him. ⁵ My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, to Eglathshelishiyah: for by the ascent of Luhith with weeping shall they go up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction. ⁶ For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the green grass has withered away, the grass fails, there is no green thing. ⁷ Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows. ⁸ For the cry has gone all around the borders of Moab; its wailing unto Eglaim, its wailing unto Beerelim. ⁹ For the waters of Dimon shall be full of blood: for I will bring more upon Dimon, lions upon him that escapes Moab, and upon the remnant of the land.

¹⁰ For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the refuse heap.

³ I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

²⁶ Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the farthest corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

²¹ Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,

³ And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers who come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

²² And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim, ²³ And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon,

⁸ Thus says the Lord GOD; Because Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the nations; ⁹ Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from its cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim, ¹⁰ Unto the men of the east together with the Ammonites, and will give them as a possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations. ¹¹ And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

¹ Thus says the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: ² But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet:

⁸ I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, by which they have reproached my people, and made boasts against their borders. ⁹ Therefore as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of weeds, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. ¹⁰ This shall they have because of their pride, because they have reproached and boasted themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts. ¹¹ The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the coasts of the nations.

²⁵ And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof. ²⁶ For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and established: ²⁸ For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it has consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! you are undone, O people of Chemosh: he has given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites. ³⁰ We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reaches unto Medeba.

³⁷ And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,

⁸ And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; and their laws are different from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to tolerate them. ⁹ If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries. ¹⁰ And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy. ¹¹ And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you. ¹² Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's satraps, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people according to their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring. ¹³ And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey. ¹⁴ The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. ⁵ For they have consulted together with one consent: they make a covenant against you: ⁶ The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagrites; ⁷ Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; ⁸ Assyria also is joined with them: they have helped the children of Lot. Selah.

⁸ For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the nations have broken down its choicest vines, they have come even unto Jazer, they wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they have gone over the sea. ⁹ Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen.

¹⁴ But now the LORD has spoken, saying, Within three years, like the years of a hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be despised, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury from my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.

¹⁷ Then took I the cup from the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:

³⁶ If those fixed orders depart from before me, says the LORD, then the descendants of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me forever.

²⁴ Consider you not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD has chosen, he has even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, as if they should be no more a nation before them.

²⁸ Fear you not, O Jacob my servant, says the LORD: for I am with you; for I will make a complete end of all the nations where I have driven you: but I will not make a complete end of you, but correct you in measure; yet will I not leave you entirely unpunished.

⁷ Therefore shall Moab wail for Moab, everyone shall wail: for the foundations of Kirhareseth shall you mourn; surely they are stricken. ⁸ For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the nations have broken down its choicest vines, they have come even unto Jazer, they wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they have gone over the sea. ⁹ Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen. ¹⁰ And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease. ¹¹ Therefore my heart shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inner being for Kirheres.

⁴ Therefore said I, Look away from me: I will weep bitterly, labor not to comfort me, because of the plundering of the daughter of my people.

²⁰ Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is plundered: suddenly are my tents plundered, and my curtains in a moment. ²¹ How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

² Thus says the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is in it; the city, and them that dwell in it: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.

⁵ For in the ascent of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.

³⁴ From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, like a heifer of three years old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.

¹¹ By these the king granted the Jews who were in every city to gather themselves together, and to defend their lives, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the forces of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to take their possessions for a spoil,

⁹ Happy shall he be, that takes and dashes your little ones against the stones.

¹⁷ And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth outside, that he said, Escape for your life; look not behind you, neither stay in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed.

³ From want and famine they are gaunt; fleeing of late into the wilderness, desolate and waste. ⁴ Who pick mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their food. ⁵ They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;) ⁶ To dwell in the clefts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] In the LORD put I my trust: how say you to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

⁴ Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids. ⁵ Deliver yourself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

⁶ For he shall be like the shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

⁶ Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

¹⁶ Then let them who are in Judea flee into the mountains: ¹⁷ Let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house: ¹⁸ Neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes.

⁷ Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³¹ In that day, he who shall be upon the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. ³² Remember Lot's wife. ³³ Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

¹⁸ That by two immutable things, in that it was impossible for God to lie, we might have strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! you are undone, O people of Chemosh: he has given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

²⁴ Will you not possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.

⁷ Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

³³ Because they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.

⁴ Blessed is that man that makes the LORD his trust, and respects not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.

⁶ They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

⁷ Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

⁸ Trust in him at all times; you people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. ⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: if laid on the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. ¹⁰ Trust not in oppression, and hope not vainly in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy laden; they are a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but are themselves gone into captivity.

⁴ None calls for justice, nor does any plead for truth: they trust in empty words, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. ⁵ They hatch viper’s eggs, and weave the spider's web: he that eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed a viper breaks out. ⁶ Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.

²³ Thus says the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

²⁵ This is your lot, the portion of your measures from me, says the LORD; because you have forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

¹² And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he shall go forth from there in peace.

¹³ And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.

⁴⁶ Woe be unto you, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perish: for your sons are taken captives, and your daughters captives.

² Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord GOD; Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are a man, and not God, though you set your heart as the heart of God: ³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you: ⁴ With your wisdom and with your understanding you have gotten yourself riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasuries: ⁵ By your great wisdom and by your trade have you increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches:

¹³ You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity; you have eaten the fruit of lies: because you did trust in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this present age, that they be not haughty, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

⁷ So much as she has glorified herself, and lived luxuriously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

⁹ From Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon,

²¹ And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, who were princes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.

²⁶ O daughter of my people, gird yourself with sackcloth, and roll yourself about in ashes: make yourself mourn, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

⁸ Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.

⁹ Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says the LORD, and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

¹⁸ You daughter that does inhabit Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the plunderer of Moab shall come upon you, and he shall destroy your strongholds.

²⁰ Moab is put to shame; for it is broken down: wail and cry; tell it in Arnon, that Moab is plundered, ²¹ And judgment has come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahzah, and upon Mephaath, ²² And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim, ²³ And upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon, ²⁴ And upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. ²⁵ The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, says the LORD.

⁵⁶ Because the plunderer has come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, everyone of their bows is broken: for the LORD God of recompenses shall surely repay.

⁹ Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from its cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim,

⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.

² For it shall be, that, as a wandering bird cast out of the nest, so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of the Arnon.

¹⁹ O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, prepare yourself to go into captivity: for Memphis shall become a waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

²⁸ O you that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that makes her nest in the sides of the cave’s mouth.

⁹ Therefore as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of weeds, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.

¹⁴ And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

¹⁴ And Moses was angry with the officers of the army, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, who came from the battle. ¹⁵ And Moses said unto them, Have you saved all the women alive? ¹⁶ Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD. ¹⁷ Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known man by lying with him. ¹⁸ But all the young girls, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

²³ Curse you Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, Curse you bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.

³ Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.

⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but everything that was despised and worthless, that they destroyed utterly.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be you of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD. ¹⁴ And Samuel said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? ¹⁵ And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. ¹⁶ Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on. ¹⁷ And Samuel said, When you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed you king over Israel? ¹⁸ And the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed. ¹⁹ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did pounce upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD? ²⁰ And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. ²¹ But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD your God in Gilgal. ²² And Samuel said, has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. ²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king. ²⁴ And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. ²⁵ Now therefore, I pray you, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD. ²⁶ And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with you: for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel. ²⁷ And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it tore. ²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. ²⁹ And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. ³⁰ Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD your God. ³¹ So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshiped the LORD. ³² Then said Samuel, Bring you here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him cautiously. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past. ³³ And Samuel said, As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal. ³⁴ Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. ³⁵ And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

⁴² And he said unto him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

¹⁹ And the man of God was angry with him, and said, You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria till you had consumed it: whereas now you shall strike down Syria but three times.

⁶ O you sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you are quiet? put yourself into your scabbard, rest, and be still.

²⁵ The LORD has opened his armory, and has brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

¹⁹ God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abides of old. Selah. Because they do not change, therefore they fear not God.

⁴ For there are no pains in their death: but their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride surrounds them as a chain; violence covers them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with abundance: they have more than heart could wish. ⁸ They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

³² For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

⁶ We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: even of his haughtiness, and his pride, and his wrath: but his lies shall not be so.

³ The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly plundered: for the LORD has spoken this word.

⁶ And on this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of rich things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

²⁹ We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceedingly proud) his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.

³⁴ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a monster, he has filled his belly with my delicacies, he has cast me out.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw fit.

² For the LORD will restore the excellence of Jacob, as the excellence of Israel: for the plunderers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

¹⁰ She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melts, and the knees strike together, and much pain is on all sides, and the faces of them all grow pale.

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men that are settled in their complacency: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

¹⁵ And I am very much displeased with the nations that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they furthered the disaster.

⁹ You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

¹⁴ And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is broken in pieces; he shall not spare: so that there shall not be found among the fragments of it a sherd to take fire from the hearth, or to dip water out of the cistern.

³ And their nobles have sent their little ones for water: they came to the cisterns, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

¹⁰ Then shall you break the flask in the sight of the men that go with you,

³⁴ Wail, you shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, you leaders of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are come; and you shall fall like a choice vessel.

⁸ And the plunderer shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken.

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his dregs, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.

¹⁵ Moab is plundered, and gone up out of her cities, and her chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

³⁸ There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in its streets: for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure, says the LORD.

⁹ Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from its cities which are on its frontiers, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim, ¹⁰ Unto the men of the east together with the Ammonites, and will give them as a possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations.

³ And when they of Ashdod arose early the next day, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. ⁴ And when they arose early the next day morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day. ⁶ But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and struck them with tumors, even Ashdod and the territory thereof. ⁷ And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is heavy upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

²⁸ Therefore the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.

²⁶ And they took the bullock which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. ²⁷ And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps, and must be awaked. ²⁸ And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lances, till the blood gushed out upon them. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

⁴⁰ And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

²⁰ In that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made, each for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

¹² And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab wearies himself on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail.

¹⁶ They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go in confusion together that are makers of idols.

²⁰ Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you that are escaped from the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

⁷ For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you shall also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.

³⁹ They shall wail, saying, How it is broken down! how has Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismay to all them about him.

⁵ Your calf, O Samaria, has cast you off; my anger is kindled against them: how long will it be before they attain to innocence? ⁶ For from Israel is even this: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

⁵ The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven: for its people shall mourn over it, and its idolatrous priests shall wail over it, for its glory has departed from it. ⁶ It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

¹⁴ Therefore shall a tumult arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. ¹⁵ So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.

⁵ But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nothing. ⁶ Seek the LORD, and you shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.

¹⁶ There is no king saved by the multitude of a host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

¹¹ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all.

¹³ For he says, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the boundaries of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

⁴ And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which you trust? ⁵ I say, you speak (but they are but vain words), I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom do you trust, that you rebel against me?

⁸ How do you say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly he made it falsely; the pen of the scribes made it a lie.

¹⁶ Your fierceness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, that hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD.

⁶ Thus says the LORD; They also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, says the Lord GOD.

¹⁰ This shall they have because of their pride, because they have reproached and boasted themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.

⁸ Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. ⁹ Lift up your heads, O you gates; even lift them up, you everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. ¹⁰ Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

² For the LORD most high is awesome; he is a great King over all the earth.

² For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he has utterly destroyed them, he has delivered them to the slaughter. ³ Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stench shall rise up out of their corpses, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. ⁴ And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falls off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. ⁵ For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. ⁶ The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. ⁷ And the wild oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. ⁸ For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year of recompense for the controversy of Zion.

³⁰ Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: ³¹ But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

¹⁸ As I live, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel is by the sea, so shall he come.

⁴ Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

⁸ And the plunderer shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape: the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed, as the LORD has spoken. ⁹ Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for its cities shall be desolate, without any to dwell in them. ¹⁰ Cursed is he that does the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed is he that keeps back his sword from blood. ¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his dregs, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed. ¹² Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will send unto him wine tippers, that shall tip him over, and shall empty his vessels, and break his jars. ¹³ And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence. ¹⁴ How say you, We are mighty and strong men for the war? ¹⁵ Moab is plundered, and gone up out of her cities, and her chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. ¹⁶ The calamity of Moab is near at hand, and his affliction hastens quickly. ¹⁷ All you that are about him, bemoan him; and all you that know his name, say, How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod! ¹⁸ You daughter that does inhabit Dibon, come down from your glory, and sit in thirst; for the plunderer of Moab shall come upon you, and he shall destroy your strongholds. ¹⁹ O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and watch; ask him that flees, and her that escapes, and say, What has happened?

²⁷ Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day has come, the time of their punishment.

⁴⁰ I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.

⁵⁷ And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

⁹ And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

¹⁴ But cursed be the deceiver, who has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, says the LORD of hosts, and my name is feared among the nations.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them who have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts.

¹⁶ And he has on his robe and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

³⁵ To me belongs vengeance, and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

²² The hyenas shall cry in its towers, and jackals in their pleasant palaces: her time is near, and her days shall not be prolonged.

¹³ This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning Moab since that time. ¹⁴ But now the LORD has spoken, saying, Within three years, like the years of a hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be despised, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.

¹² Then said the LORD unto me, You have well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

²³ Tell them therefore, Thus says the Lord GOD; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the fulfillment of every vision.

²⁸ Therefore say unto them, Thus says the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be delayed any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, says the Lord GOD.

³ And through covetousness shall they with false words exploit you: whose judgment of old now lingers not, and their destruction slumbers not.

⁴ For you have broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

⁵ O Assyria, the rod of my anger, the staff in their hand is my indignation.

⁴ That you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! ⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers.

⁸ For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah: the lords of the nations have broken down its choicest vines, they have come even unto Jazer, they wandered through the wilderness: her branches are stretched out, they have gone over the sea.

¹⁷ Thus says the LORD of hosts, Consider you, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for skillful women, that they may come: ¹⁸ And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with water. ¹⁹ For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we plundered! we are greatly ashamed, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out. ²⁰ Yet hear the word of the LORD, O you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and everyone her neighbor lamentation.

³¹ Therefore will I wail for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; my heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres. ³² O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for you with the weeping of Jazer: your plants have gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer: the plunderer has fallen upon your summer fruit and upon your vintage. ³³ And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.

¹¹ And she had strong rods for the scepters of them that bore rule, and her stature was exalted among the thick branches, and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches. ¹² But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them. ¹³ And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground. ¹⁴ And fire has gone out of a rod of her branches, which has devoured her fruit, so that she has no strong rod to be a scepter to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

¹⁰ And I took my staff, even Grace, and cut it asunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people. ¹¹ And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. ¹² And I said unto them, If you think it good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. ¹³ And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a princely price that I was valued at by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD. ¹⁴ Then I cut asunder my other staff, even Unity, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after are departed from you, and all things which were luxurious and splendid are departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! ¹⁷ For in one hour such great riches is come to nothing. And every shipmaster, and all seafarers, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, ¹⁸ And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! ¹⁹ And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, in which were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her wealth! for in one hour is she made desolate. ²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her.

¹⁶ And she went, and sat down apart from him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat away from him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

³ And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Why is this that you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

³⁰ We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reaches unto Medeba.

¹⁸ And he was very thirsty, and called on the LORD, and said, you have given this great deliverance into the hand of your servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?

¹³ Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.

¹ Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for you shall no more be called tender and delicate.

¹⁸ As I live, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel is by the sea, so shall he come. ¹⁹ O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, prepare yourself to go into captivity: for Memphis shall become a waste and desolate without an inhabitant.

²² And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim,

¹³ And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty ground.

³⁴ And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

³⁶ From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:

¹³ And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out. ¹⁴ And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What is the meaning of the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.

¹⁶ And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?

³ And David said unto him, From where come you? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped. ⁴ And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray you, tell me. And he answered, The people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.

²⁴ And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone. ²⁵ And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he is alone, there are tidings in his mouth. And he came rapidly, and drew near. ²⁶ And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the gatekeeper, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also brings tidings. ²⁷ And the watchman said, I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and comes with good tidings. ²⁸ And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king. ²⁹ And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king’s servant, and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was. ³⁰ And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still. ³¹ And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD has avenged you this day of all them that rose up against you. ³² And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against you to do you hurt, be as that young man is.

⁵ And they passed over Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the valley of Gad, and toward Jazer:

⁸ And Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, even unto Nebo and Baal-meon:

¹³ From there they moved, and encamped on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that extends from the border of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites. ¹⁴ Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red Sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,

²⁶ For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and established: ²⁸ For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it has consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.

¹⁸ Then they went along through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and encamped on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.

¹ The burden concerning Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; ² He has gone up to the temple, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall wail over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off. ³ In their streets they shall clothe themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, everyone shall wail, weeping abundantly. ⁴ And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be troubled unto him. ⁵ My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, to Eglathshelishiyah: for by the ascent of Luhith with weeping shall they go up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.

¹ Against Moab thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is plundered: Kiriathaim is put to shame and taken: the stronghold is put to shame and dismayed. ² There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also you shall be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue you. ³ A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, plundering and great destruction. ⁴ Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard. ⁵ For in the ascent of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.

²³ And Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

¹⁸ And Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

³⁶ And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasture lands, and Jahaz with its pasture lands, ³⁷ Kedemoth with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands; four cities.

⁴ And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be troubled unto him.

⁴⁶ And they set out from Dibongad, and encamped at Almondiblathaim.

¹ Against Moab thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is plundered: Kiriathaim is put to shame and taken: the stronghold is put to shame and dismayed.

¹⁴ So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land desolate, yea, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblah, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

⁵ And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,

³⁸ And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Sibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they built.

¹⁹ And Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zerethshahar in the mount of the valley,

⁴³ Namely, Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

³⁶ And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasture lands, and Jahaz with its pasture lands,

⁴¹ Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are surprised, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

² But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet:

⁸ I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, by which they have reproached my people, and made boasts against their borders. ⁹ Therefore as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of weeds, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. ¹⁰ This shall they have because of their pride, because they have reproached and boasted themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.

⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till you find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholds the righteous.

¹⁰ All the strength of the wicked also will I cut off; but the strength of the righteous shall be exalted.

³ He has cut off in his fierce anger all the might of Israel: he has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devours round about.

²¹ Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it shall not be bound up to be healed, to put a bandage to bind it, to make it strong to hold the sword. ²² Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand. ²³ And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries. ²⁴ And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man. ²⁵ But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.

⁸ I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.

⁷ And I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved with rage against him, and struck the ram, and broke his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand. ⁸ Therefore the male goat grew very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and instead of it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven. ⁹ And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which grew exceedingly great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the glorious land.

²¹ And the male goat is the king of Greece: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

¹⁹ And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. ²⁰ And the LORD showed me four craftsmen. ²¹ Then said I, What are these coming to do? And he spoke, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these have come to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations, who lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

¹⁷ And yet exalt you yourself against my people, that you will not let them go?

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

⁸ But you, O LORD, shall laugh at them; you shall have all the nations in derision.

³ You have shown your people hard things: you have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is fully mixed; and he pours out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them down, and drink them.

¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him that hews with it? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that uses it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were not wood.

¹⁴ The LORD has mixed a perverse spirit in its midst: and they have caused Egypt to err in her every work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

⁹ Stop, and wonder; cry you out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, who have drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; you have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

⁶ And I will tread down the people in my anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

¹³ Then shall you say unto them, Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness. ¹⁴ And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury from my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and stagger, and go mad, because of the sword that I will send among them. ¹⁷ Then took I the cup from the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:

²⁷ Therefore you shall say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink, and be drunken, and vomit, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then shall you say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts; You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, says the LORD of hosts.

⁷ Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunk: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

³⁹ In their excitement I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunk, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, says the LORD.

²¹ They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it: you will bring the day that you have announced, and they shall be like unto me.

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness, he has made me drunk with wormwood.

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwells in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto you: you shall be drunk, and shall make yourself naked.

³¹ You have walked in the way of your sister; therefore will I give her cup into your hand. ³² Thus says the Lord GOD; You shall drink of your sister’s cup deep and large: you shall be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it contains much. ³³ You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of horror and desolation, with the cup of your sister Samaria. ³⁴ You shall even drink it and drain it out, and you shall break its sherds, and tear your own breasts: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD.

¹² And you shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given to us to consume. ¹³ Thus with your mouth you have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.

²³ But have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine in them; and you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, have you not glorified:

¹¹ Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. ¹² And a host was given him to oppose the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it did this, and prospered.

³⁶ And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath is accomplished: for what has been determined shall be done.

¹¹ You also shall be drunk: you shall be hidden, you also shall seek refuge from the enemy.

¹⁶ You are filled with shame instead of glory: drink you also, and let your shame be exposed: the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned against you, and utter shame shall be upon your glory.

⁴ Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

¹⁹ And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

⁴ I also could speak as you do: if your soul were in my soul’s place, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

¹³ You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

⁴ We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

¹⁷ Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles: ¹⁸ Lest the LORD sees it, and it displeases him, and he turns away his wrath from him.

²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

¹⁶ To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shake his head.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? ¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth against you: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it. ¹⁷ The LORD has done that which he had purposed; he has fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old: he has thrown down, and has not pitied: and he has caused your enemy to rejoice over you, he has set up the might of your adversaries.

⁸ Thus says the Lord GOD; Because Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah is like unto all the nations;

² Son of man, because that Tyre has said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is broken that was the gates of the people: she is turned over unto me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste: ³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up.

¹⁵ As you did rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto you: you shall be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

² Thus says the Lord GOD; Because the enemy has said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:

⁴ Therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the rest of the nations that are round about;

¹² But you should not have looked down on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress. ¹³ You should not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, you should not have looked down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause, and executes justice for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness. ¹⁰ Then she that is my enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said unto me, Where is the LORD your God? my eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

² For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you measure, it shall be measured to you again.

⁵⁵ In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are you come out as against a thief with swords and clubs to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and you laid no hold on me.

³⁸ Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

² And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strongholds.

⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

⁶ And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest. ⁷ Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah.

¹⁴ O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice; for sweet is your voice, and your countenance is lovely.

¹⁹ And they shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake mightily the earth.

⁹ Give wings unto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for its cities shall be desolate, without any to dwell in them.

³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the LORD.

¹⁰ Deck yourself now with majesty and splendor; and array yourself with glory and beauty. ¹¹ Put forth the rage of your wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

⁶ Though the LORD be high, yet has he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knows from afar.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

¹³ There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall come upon everyone that is proud and lofty, and upon everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

⁸ I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, by which they have reproached my people, and made boasts against their borders. ⁹ Therefore as I live, says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of weeds, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them. ¹⁰ This shall they have because of their pride, because they have reproached and boasted themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts. ¹¹ The LORD will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the coasts of the nations. ¹² You Ethiopians also, you shall be slain by my sword. ¹³ And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness. ¹⁴ And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the vulture and the hedgehog shall lodge in her capitals; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he shall lay bare her cedar work. ¹⁵ This is the rejoicing city that dwelt securely, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how has she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! everyone that passes by her shall hiss, and shake his fist.

¹¹ For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What do you? ¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do bow before him.

¹⁰ The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing: he makes the devices of the people of none effect.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

²⁸ But I know your abode, and your going out, and your coming in, and your rage against me. ²⁹ Because your rage against me, and your tumult, has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

³⁶ A sword is upon the diviners; and they shall become fools: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

²⁵ And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and covered it; and they stopped up all the wells of water, and cut down all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they its stones; the slingers surrounded it, and conquered it.

³⁶ Therefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and my heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that he has gotten have perished.

³² And Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.

¹ Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

³⁵ And Atroth Shophan, and Jazer, and Jogbehah,

³⁹ Heshbon with its pasture lands, Jazer with its pasture lands; four cities in all.

¹⁰ As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, who will come unto us: but you, gather you wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.

¹⁰ Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of a homer shall yield an ephah.

²³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place, where there could be a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels, it shall even be briers and thorns.

³ You have multiplied the nation, and increased the joy: they joy before you according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

⁹ Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water you with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for your summer fruits and for your harvest has fallen. ¹⁰ And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.

⁷ The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of timbrels ceases, the noise of them that rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is stricken with destruction.

⁹ Rise up, you women that are at ease; hear my voice, you complacent daughters; give ear unto my speech. ¹⁰ In a little more than a year shall you be troubled, you complacent women: for the vintage shall fail, the gathering shall not come. ¹¹ Tremble, you women that are at ease; be troubled, you complacent ones: strip yourselves, and make yourselves bare, and gird sackcloth upon your waists. ¹² Beat upon your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine. ¹³ Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the joyous houses in the joyous city: ¹⁴ Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks;

⁹ Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says the LORD, and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. ¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.

⁵ Awake, you drunkards, and weep; and howl, all you drinkers of wine, because of the new wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.

¹² The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languishes; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy has withered away from the sons of men. ¹³ Gird yourselves, and lament, you priests: wail, you ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my God: for the grain offering and the drink offering is withheld from the house of your God.

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

¹⁶ Since those days were, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the winepress to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.

²² And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of flutists, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he may be, shall be found any more in you; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in you; ²³ And the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in you: for your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries were all nations deceived.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you came unto Zoar.

³⁶ And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fortified cities: and folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kiriathaim,

³ And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar.

⁴ And Heshbon shall cry, and Elealeh: their voice shall be heard even unto Jahaz: therefore the armed soldiers of Moab shall cry out; his life shall be troubled unto him. ⁵ My heart shall cry out for Moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, to Eglathshelishiyah: for by the ascent of Luhith with weeping shall they go up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction. ⁶ For the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate: for the green grass has withered away, the grass fails, there is no green thing.

² There shall be no more praise of Moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also you shall be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue you. ³ A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, plundering and great destruction.

⁴⁰ And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the leaders that were with him. ⁴¹ And it came to pass the next day, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that from there he might see the extent of the people.

¹⁴ And their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of a hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of a hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year.

²⁸ And their grain offerings of flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah unto one bullock, two-tenths of an ephah unto one ram, ²⁹ A tenth of an ephah unto one lamb, throughout the seven lambs; ³⁰ And one kid of the goats, to make an atonement for you.

¹³ For according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.

⁴ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

¹¹ The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his own esteem.

¹³ There is a great evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by their owners to their hurt. ¹⁴ But those riches are lost by a bad venture: when he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand.

⁷ Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows.

¹¹ Therefore my heart shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inner being for Kirheres.

¹⁵ Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory: where is your zeal and your strength, the yearning of your heart and of your mercies toward me? are they restrained?

¹⁹ My soul, my soul! I am pained at my very heart; my heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

¹¹ As the partridge sits on eggs, and hatches them not; so he that gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

²⁰ But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have prepared? ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is rusted; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.

²⁹ And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

³⁴ And Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

²⁸ You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

²⁸ And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lances, till the blood gushed out upon them.

²⁷ And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

³⁰ And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth beneath upon his flesh.

²⁴ And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet fragrance there shall be a stench; and instead of a sash, a rope; and instead of well-set hair, baldness; and instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth; and a burning scar instead of beauty.

² He has gone up to the temple, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall wail over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off. ³ In their streets they shall clothe themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, everyone shall wail, weeping abundantly.

² At the same time spoke the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and remove the sackcloth from off your body, and put off your shoes from your feet. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

¹ And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.

⁶ Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:

⁵ That there came certain from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even fourscore men, having their beards shaven, and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.

⁵ Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long will you cut yourself?

¹⁸ They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads.

³¹ And they shall make themselves utterly bald for you, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.

¹⁰ And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon every waist, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it like the mourning of an only son, and its end as a bitter day.

¹⁶ Make yourselves bald, and cut your hair because of your precious children; enlarge your baldness like an eagle; for they shall go into captivity from you.

⁵ And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

³ And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and three score days, clothed in sackcloth.

³ In their streets they shall clothe themselves with sackcloth: on the tops of their houses, and in their streets, everyone shall wail, weeping abundantly.

¹ The burden concerning the valley of vision. What ails you now, that you are wholly gone up to the housetops?

²⁸ Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel in which is no pleasure? why are they cast out, he and his descendants, and are cast into a land which they know not?

⁸ Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel in which is no pleasure.

²¹ Has not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor? ²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

²⁰ But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor. ²¹ If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and fit for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

²⁷ And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to pieces: even as I received of my Father.

⁴ So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt. ⁵ And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their hope, and of Egypt their glory. ⁶ And the inhabitant of this coastland shall say in that day, Behold, such is our hope, to which we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: how then shall we escape?

²⁶ Make him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision. ²⁷ For was not Israel a derision unto you? was he found among thieves? for when you spoke of him, you wagged your head.

¹ How does the city sit lovely, that was full of people! how has she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how has she become a slave!

¹ How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!

¹ How has the gold become dim! how has the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

¹⁶ Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their embroidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at you. ¹⁷ And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, How are you destroyed, that were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city, which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who cause their terror to be on all that inhabit it! ¹⁸ Now shall the coastlands tremble in the day of your fall; yea, the coastlands that are by the sea shall be troubled at your departure.

⁹ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived in luxury with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is your judgment come.

¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand;

⁸ And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and pass over, he shall reach up to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

¹³ Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are ruined.

²² Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

¹⁹ Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

³ And say, Thus says the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had various colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

⁴ The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.

¹ Set the trumpet to your mouth. He shall come as an eagle over the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

⁸ Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen press proudly on, their horsemen shall come from afar; they shall fly as the eagle that hastens to eat.

⁸ And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

³ Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travails: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

¹⁷ Like a woman with child, that draws near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and cries out in her pangs; so have we been in your sight, O LORD. ¹⁸ We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were given birth to wind; we have not accomplished any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.

³¹ For I have heard a voice like a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that brings forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewails herself, that spreads her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

²⁴ We have heard the report of it: our hands grow feeble: anguish has taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

⁶ Ask you now, and see whether a man does travail with child? why do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

²⁴ Damascus has grown feeble, and turns herself to flee, and fear has seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.

⁴³ The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands grew feeble: anguish took hold of him, and birth pangs as of a woman in travail.

³⁰ The mighty men of Babylon have ceased to fight, they have remained in their strongholds: their might has failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwelling places; her bars are broken.

⁹ Now why do you cry out aloud? is there no king in you? is your counselor perished? for pangs have taken you as a woman in travail. ¹⁰ Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shall you go forth out of the city, and you shall dwell in the field, and you shall go even to Babylon; there shall you be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁸ And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; and their laws are different from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to tolerate them. ⁹ If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries. ¹⁰ And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy. ¹¹ And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you. ¹² Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's satraps, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people according to their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring. ¹³ And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

¹⁸ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

⁸ For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, so that it will not be a people.

²³ Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? and against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

¹¹ For I am with you, says the LORD, to save you: though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet will I not make a full end of you: but I will correct you in just measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.

⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

²³ I will heap evils upon them; I will spend my arrows upon them. ²⁴ They shall be wasted with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of animals upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. ²⁵ The sword outside, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the nursing child also with the man of gray hairs.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

¹⁷ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth. ¹⁸ And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that comes up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

⁴⁷ Fear and a snare has come upon us, desolation and destruction.

¹⁷ And it shall come to pass, that he that escapes the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and he that escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

³ And what will you do in the day of punishment, and in the desolation which shall come from afar? to whom will you flee for help? and where will you leave your riches?

¹⁸ And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that comes up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and struck in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead corpses. ³⁷ So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. ³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

¹² Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their punishment they shall be cast down, says the LORD.

¹⁵ They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their judgment they shall perish.

²³ And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their judgment.

¹⁶ Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says the LORD, and they shall catch them; and afterward will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

¹² Therefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall in it: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their punishment, says the LORD.

²¹ Also her hired soldiers are in the midst of her like fatted calves; for they also are turned back, and have fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity had come upon them, and the time of their punishment.

¹⁸ They are vanity, the work of errors: in the time of their judgment they shall perish.

⁷ The days of punishment have come, the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, because of the multitude of your iniquity, and the great hatred.

¹⁴ Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his power, neither shall the mighty deliver himself: ¹⁵ Neither shall he stand that handles the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rides the horse deliver himself.

¹⁹ As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Strike the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and break them on the heads of all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that flees of them shall not flee away, and he that escapes of them shall not be delivered. ² Though they dig into sheol, there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, there will I bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, I will search and take them from there; and though they are hidden from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there will I command the serpent, and it shall bite them: ⁴ And though they go into captivity before their enemies, there will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set my eyes upon them for harm, and not for good.

⁴ The best of them is like a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of your watchmen and your punishment comes; now shall be their perplexity.

²¹ And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

²⁶ For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.

²⁸ For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it has consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.

⁴ Out of him came forth the cornerstone, out of him the tent peg, out of him the battle bow, out of him every ruler together.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, Did you never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?

¹³ And the high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the south of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.

¹⁴ And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advise you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.

³⁰ When you are in tribulation, and all these things are come upon you, even in the latter days, if you turn to the LORD your God, and shall be obedient unto his voice;

²⁹ For I know that after my death you will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

⁷ In that time shall a present be brought unto the LORD of hosts from a people tall and smooth of skin, and from a people feared from their beginning until now; a nation powerful and treading under foot, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, to mount Zion.

¹⁸ In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction. ¹⁹ In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at its border to the LORD. ²⁰ And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a savior, and a mighty one, and he shall deliver them. ²¹ And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall make sacrifice and offering; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it. ²² And the LORD shall strike Egypt: he shall strike and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be entreated by them, and shall heal them. ²³ In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.

¹⁸ And her merchandise and her hire shall be dedicated to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for fine clothing.

¹⁵ And it shall come to pass, after I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

²⁰ The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he has executed, and till he has performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days you shall consider it perfectly.

²⁴ The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he has done it, and until he has performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days you shall consider it.

²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says the LORD.

⁶ And afterward I will bring again the captivity of the children of Ammon, says the LORD.

³⁹ But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, says the LORD.

⁵³ When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of your captives in the midst of them: ⁵⁴ That you may bear your own shame, and may be disgraced in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort unto them. ⁵⁵ When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, then you and your daughters shall return to your former state.

⁸ After many days you shall be visited: in the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always desolate: but they were brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.

²⁸ But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, are these;

¹⁴ Now I have come to make you understand what shall befall your people in the latter days: for the vision is for many days yet to come.

⁵ Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
