³ Against him that bends let the archer bend his bow, and against him that lifts himself up in his armor: and spare you not her young men; destroy you utterly all her army.

²⁵ The sword outside, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the nursing child also with the man of gray hairs.

⁹ Happy shall he be, that takes and dashes your little ones against the stones.

¹⁰ For the stars of heaven and its constellations shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in its going forth, and the moon shall not cause its light to shine. ¹¹ And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless. ¹² I will make a man more rare than fine gold; even a man more than the golden wedge of Ophir. ¹³ Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. ¹⁴ And it shall be as the hunted gazelle, and as a sheep that no man gathers up: every man shall return to his own people, and flee everyone into his own land. ¹⁵ Everyone that is found shall be thrust through; and everyone that is caught shall fall by the sword. ¹⁶ Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be plundered, and their wives ravished. ¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. ¹⁸ Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.

²¹ For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from outside, and the young men from the squares.

⁴ Harness the horses; and get up, you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; polish the spears, and put on the armor.

¹⁴ Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all you that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she has sinned against the LORD.

²¹ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, says the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded you.

²⁷ Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day has come, the time of their punishment.

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: all you that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none of them escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do unto her: for she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. ³⁰ Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, says the LORD.

⁴¹ Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the ends of the earth. ⁴² They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not show mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, everyone set in array, like a man for the battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon.

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy triumphs over judgment.
