¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil. ² And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. ⁴ And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one on his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were finished, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. ⁶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. ⁷ And the LORD said unto Satan, From where come you? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it. ⁸ And the LORD said unto Satan, Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one that fears God, and turns away from evil? ⁹ Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Does Job fear God for nothing? ¹⁰ Have not you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? you have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions are increased in the land. ¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face. ¹² And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power; only upon himself put not forth your hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. ¹³ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house: ¹⁴ And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them: ¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone am escaped to tell you. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God has fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone am escaped to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone am escaped to tell you. ¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house: ¹⁹ And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I alone am escaped to tell you. ²⁰ Then Job arose, and tore his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshiped, ²¹ And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there: the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. ²² In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God with wrong.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

²³ And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

¹ And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be you perfect.

¹² And he said, Lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do you anything unto him: for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me.

²⁰ And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she has also borne children unto your brother Nahor; ²¹ Uz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,

²⁸ The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran.

²¹ Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

³ I beseech you, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

¹⁷ The sons of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram, and Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Meshech.

⁴² The sons of Ezer; Bilhan, and Zavan, and Jaakan. The sons of Dishan; Uz, and Aran.

²⁰ And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and did that which was good and right and true before the LORD his God. ²¹ And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

⁸ And the LORD said unto Satan, Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one that fears God, and turns away from evil?

³ And the LORD said unto Satan, Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one that fears God, and turns away from evil? and still he holds fast his integrity, although you moved me against him, to destroy him without cause.

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps, his way have I kept, and not turned aside. ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹ I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I think upon a maiden? ² For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is not destruction to the wicked? and a disaster to the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot has hastened to deceit; ⁶ Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity. ⁷ If my step has turned out of the way, and my heart walked after my eyes, and if any spot has cleaved to my hands; ⁸ Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out. ⁹ If my heart has been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbor’s door; ¹⁰ Then let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her. ¹¹ For this is a heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges. ¹² For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase. ¹³ If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God rises up? and when he comes, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided him from my mother’s womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw I had help in the gate: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from its socket. ²³ For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his majesty I could not endure. ²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, You are my confidence; ²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in brightness; ²⁷ And my heart has been secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand: ²⁸ This also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above. ²⁹ If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him: ³⁰ Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul. ³¹ If the men of my tent have not, Oh that we had of his meat! we cannot be satisfied. ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveler. ³³ If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom: ³⁴ Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door? ³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book. ³⁶ Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me. ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him. ³⁸ If my land cries against me, and its furrows likewise complain; ³⁹ If I have eaten its fruit without payment, or have caused its owners to lose their life: ⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

²⁰ And all the foreign people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwells in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto you: you shall be drunk, and shall make yourself naked.

¹⁴ Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver only their own souls by their righteousness, says the Lord GOD.

²⁰ Though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall only deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

¹¹ Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very compassionate, and of tender mercy.

¹¹ Let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters.

³⁸ He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and permits not their cattle to decrease.

³ Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. ⁴ As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. ⁵ Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: your children like olive plants round about your table.

⁵ And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

¹⁶ And he treated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and male donkeys, and menservants, and maidservants, and female donkeys, and camels.

⁶ And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their possessions were great, so that they could not dwell together.

⁶ But unto the sons of the concubines, whom Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

¹ Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

²³ Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.

⁷ And he took up his oracle, and said, Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse for me Jacob, and come, denounce Israel.

³² And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep, ³³ And three score and twelve thousand cattle, ³⁴ And three score and one thousand donkeys,

³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

⁵ For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.

¹² And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men that drew the sword.

² And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

³⁰ And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

⁴ And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and rendered unto the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and a hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

¹⁰ Also he built towers in the desert, and dug many wells: for he had many cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: farmers also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved the soil.

²⁹ Moreover he provided himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him very great possessions.

⁹ The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat as chief, and dwelt like a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.

¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

²² The blessing of the LORD, it makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

¹ [A song of ascents. Of David.] Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

¹ Let brotherly love continue.

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²⁰ And Noah built an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and cut the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

² Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the foreign gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: ³ And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

¹² And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law before God.

¹⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

⁵ And he sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD.

³ If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the LORD. ⁴ And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. ⁵ And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ⁶ And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into its pieces.

¹⁰ And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; ¹¹ And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) ¹² And they put him in custody, that the mind of the LORD might be shown them. ¹³ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ¹⁴ Bring forth him that has cursed outside the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. ¹⁵ And you shall speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curses his God shall bear his sin. ¹⁶ And he that blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemes the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

⁵ And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

³¹ And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be your name:

¹⁰ And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, You did blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, so that he died.

³⁰ And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall.

¹¹ But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.

⁹ Then said his wife unto him, Do you still retain your integrity? curse God, and die.

⁴ If your children have sinned against him, and he has cast them away for their transgression;

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: because of his crashings they are beside themselves.

⁸ Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

³ My voice shall you hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto you, and will look up.

¹⁰ Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? ¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

⁷ And shall not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night unto him, though he bears long with them?

⁵⁵ And the Jews' passover was near at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

²² Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

²⁶ Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to announce the accomplishment of the days of purification, until an offering should be offered for every one of them.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

² For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thus with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

² That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

⁴ There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

¹⁹ And he said, Hear you therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

¹ And Satan stood up against Israel, and incited David to number Israel.

¹ Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

²⁰ Bless the LORD, you his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

²⁵ He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods.

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

¹⁰ Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.

³⁸ Who was the son of Enos, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night.

²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, From where come you, Gehazi? And he said, Your servant went nowhere.

² And the LORD said unto Satan, From where come you? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.

¹⁰ And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD has sent to walk to and fro through the earth. ¹¹ And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sits quietly, and is at rest.

⁷ And the strong steeds went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Go forth, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

⁴³ When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹² Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and of the sea! for the devil has come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has but a short time. ¹³ And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman who brought forth the male child. ¹⁴ And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. ¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. ¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. ¹⁷ And the dragon was angry with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

⁸ And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men who were upon the face of the earth.)

⁷ My servant Moses is not thus, who is faithful in all my house. ⁸ With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even clearly, and not in dark sayings; and the form of the LORD shall he behold: why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

³⁰ And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.

²⁵ And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

¹⁵ But the former governors that had been before me laid burdens upon the people, and had taken of them food and wine, besides forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bore rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil.

²⁰ Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man, neither will he help the evil doers:

²² This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the blameless and the wicked. ²³ If the scourge slays suddenly, he will laugh at the plight of the innocent.

⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls upon God, and he answers him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

⁸ Upright men shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite. ⁹ The righteous also shall hold to his way, and he that has clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

¹⁴ If he should set his heart upon man, if he should gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

²³ I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.

¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD.] The transgression of the wicked says within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

²⁰ I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

¹⁶ Wash you, make yourself clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

¹ Behold my servant, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

⁴ And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart upon all that I shall show you; for to the intent that I might show them unto you are you brought here: declare all that you see to the house of Israel.

³⁹ And one of the malefactors who were hanged railed at him, saying, If you are Christ, save yourself and us. ⁴⁰ But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

²¹ And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there: the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁰ But he said unto her, You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

¹⁴ Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

¹⁰ Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nothing? neither do you kindle fire on my altar for nothing. I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁸ For bodily exercise profits for a little while: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceeding great reward.

¹² Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.

³⁰ For it was little which you had before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD has blessed you since my coming: and now when shall I provide for my own house also?

⁴³ And the man increased exceedingly, and had large flocks, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and donkeys.

⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

²⁵ Even by the God of your father, who shall help you; and by the Almighty, who shall bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:

¹³ And he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you: he will also bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your grain, and your wine, and your oil, the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep, in the land which he swore unto your fathers to give you.

² And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken unto the voice of the LORD your God. ³ Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. ⁴ Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your herds, the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep. ⁵ Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading-trough. ⁶ Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

¹¹ Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands: strike the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

²⁷ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before you; and shall say, Destroy them.

¹⁶ They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

⁶ When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

¹² For you, LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor will you surround him with a shield.

⁷ The angel of the LORD encamps round about them that fear him, and delivers them.

²¹ You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.

¹² Why have you then broken down its hedges, so that all they who pass by the way do pluck its fruit?

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish you the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish it.

¹ [A song of ascents.] Blessed is every one that fears the LORD; that walks in his ways. ² For you shall eat the labor of your hands: happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you. ³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: your children like olive plants round about your table. ⁴ Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that fears the LORD.

² And he dug it, and gathered out its stones, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress in it: and he expected that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

⁵ And now; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; and break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down:

⁵ For I, says the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.

⁸ For thus says the LORD of hosts; After his glory has he sent me unto the nations which plundered you: for he that touches you touches the apple of his eye.

⁵ Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹¹ And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that touches this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were finished, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

¹² And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power; only upon himself put not forth your hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.

⁵ But now it is come upon you, and you faint; it touches you, and you are troubled.

²¹ Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

¹⁵ Saying, Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

²⁵ Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he has stretched forth his hand against them, and has stricken them: and the hills did tremble, and their dead bodies were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

²¹ And they shall pass through it, hardpressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall be enraged, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

¹³ Your words have been strong against me, says the LORD. Yet you say, What have we spoken so much against you? ¹⁴ You have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked in mourning before the LORD of hosts?

⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, who has power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

¹¹ And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

²¹ And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceedingly great.

⁶ But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, your maid is in your hand; do to her as it pleases you. And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her face.

²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man has will he give for his life. ⁵ But put forth your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face. ⁶ And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in your hand; but spare his life. ⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot unto the crown of his head.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise you: the remainder of wrath shall you restrain.

⁸ In measure, by sending it away, you will contend with it: he removes it with his fierce blast in the day of the east wind.

⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand: for the king is not able to do anything against you.

³² And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would allow them to enter into them. And he allowed them. ³³ Then went the demons out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were drowned.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: ³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith fail not: and when you have returned, strengthen your brethren.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.

¹¹ Jesus answered, You could have no power at all against me, except it were given you from above: therefore he that delivered me unto you has the greater sin.

¹³ There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

⁴ And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one on his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

¹ Boast not yourself of tomorrow; for you know not what a day may bring forth.

¹² For man also knows not his time: as the fish that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have prepared?

²⁷ They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with carousing, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

¹⁷ And the messenger answered and said, Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.

¹³ And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom.

³¹ One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every side,

⁷ And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan.

²⁸ And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

³ And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim.

²⁰ And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar showed David that Saul had slain the LORD'S priests.

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God has fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone am escaped to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone am escaped to tell you.

¹⁹ And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I alone am escaped to tell you.

¹⁹ The caravans of Tema looked, the travelers of Sheba waited for them.

¹⁰ The kings of Tarshish and of the coasts shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

¹⁴ Thus says the LORD, The labor of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto you, and they shall be yours: they shall come after you; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto you, they shall make supplication unto you, saying, Surely God is in you; and there is none else, there is no other God.

⁴² And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, who put bracelets upon their wrists, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.

⁸ And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the LORD has spoken it.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²⁸ Entreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.

²⁴ And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

² And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

¹ And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burned among them, and consumed some that were in the outlying parts of the camp. ² And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched. ³ And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burned among them.

¹⁵ And there was trembling in the host, in the field, and among all the people: the garrison, and the raiders, they also trembled, and the earth quaked: so it was a very great trembling.

³⁸ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

¹⁰ And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty men. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹² And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty men. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

¹⁴ Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in your sight.

⁴ Thus has the Lord GOD showed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called for judgment by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part of the land.

¹³ And he does great wonders, so that he makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

²⁸ And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

³ And David said unto him, From where come you? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.

¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone am escaped to tell you.

¹³ Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up its towers, they raised up its palaces; and he brought it to ruin.

⁶ For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the earth, to possess the dwelling places that are not theirs.

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark you now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Strike Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

¹³ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

² Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

¹⁴ He breaks me with breach upon breach, he runs upon me like a warrior.

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree.

² Even today is my complaint bitter: my hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that sacrifices not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath.

¹⁹ From the time that it goes forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a terror just to understand the report.

¹² Is it nothing to you, all you that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

⁶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places: yet have you not returned unto me, says the LORD. ⁷ And also I have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one part was rained upon, and the part upon which it rained not withered. ⁸ So two or three cities wandered to one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have you not returned unto me, says the LORD. ⁹ I have smitten you with blight and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the locust devoured them: yet have you not returned unto me, says the LORD. ¹⁰ I have sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stench of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have you not returned unto me, says the LORD. ¹¹ I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have you not returned unto me, says the LORD.

³² And they sent the coat of many colors, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: see now whether it be your son's coat or not. ³³ And he recognized it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces.

³⁶ And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have you bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and you will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.

³⁰ And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead whom he slew at his death were more than they whom he slew in his life.

³³ And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

¹¹ At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places blows in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse, ¹² Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.

²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

¹ There were present at that time some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. ² And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose you that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things? ³ I tell you, Nay: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think you that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, Nay: but, except you repent, you shall all likewise perish.

⁴ And when the natives saw the creature hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice allows not to live.

² In which in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:

²⁹ And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he tore his clothes.

³⁴ And Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁶ David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. ¹⁸ And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead? ¹⁹ But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead. ²⁰ Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshiped: then he came to his own house; and when he asked, they set food before him, and he did eat.

³ And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshiped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endures forever.

³ And when I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down appalled.

³⁹ And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as you will.

⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

¹⁹ In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.

² And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?

⁵ Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here: for God did send me before you to preserve life.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up.

¹⁸ And Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seems to him good.

¹² It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will repay me good for his cursing this day.

¹⁵ Therefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the turn of affairs was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

¹⁹ Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which you have spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?

¹ [A Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.] I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

⁹ I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because you did it.

¹⁷ For when he dies he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

³⁸ But you have cast off and abhorred, you have been angry with your anointed. ³⁹ You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. ⁴⁰ You have broken down all his hedges; you have brought his strongholds to ruin. ⁴¹ All that pass by the way plunder him: he is a reproach to his neighbors. ⁴² You have lifted up the right hand of his adversaries; you have made all his enemies to rejoice. ⁴³ You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and have not made him to stand in the battle. ⁴⁴ You have made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground. ⁴⁵ The days of his youth have you shortened: you have covered him with shame. Selah. ⁴⁶ How long, LORD? will you hide yourself forever? shall your anger burn like fire? ⁴⁷ Remember how short my time is: why have you made all men in vain? ⁴⁸ What man is he that lives, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. ⁴⁹ Lord, where are your former lovingkindnesses, which you swore unto David in your truth? ⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; ⁵¹ With which your enemies have reproached, O LORD; with which they have reproached the footsteps of your anointed. ⁵² Blessed be the LORD forevermore. ¹⁵ As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing from his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to accept his lot, and to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.

⁷ Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

¹⁵ Therefore glorify the LORD in the east, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the coastlands of the sea.

²⁴ Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create calamity: I the LORD do all these things.

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the most High proceeds not evil and good?

⁶ Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be calamity in a city, and the LORD has not done it?

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? Is your eye evil, because I am good?

²⁸ To do whatsoever your hand and your counsel determined before to be done.

²⁰ Giving thanks always for all things unto God, even the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹⁸ In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

¹⁰ Therefore hearken unto me, you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? and to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that regards not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further. ⁶ Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ⁷ Gird up your loins now like a man: I will demand of you, and declare you unto me. ⁸ Will you also annul my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

²⁰ Nay but, O man, who are you that replies against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why have you made me thus?

⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.

¹² Blessed is the man that endures trial: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.

⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
