¹ Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said, ² Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; ³ When his lamp shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness; ⁴ As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tent; ⁵ When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me; ⁶ When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil; ⁷ When I went out to the gate of the city, when I prepared my seat in the open square! ⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up. ⁹ The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the fangs of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth. ¹⁸ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand. ¹⁹ My root was spread out to the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch. ²⁰ My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand. ²¹ Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel. ²² After my words they spoke not again; and my speech dropped upon them. ²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. ²⁴ If I mocked them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down. ²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat as chief, and dwelt like a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.

⁷ And he took up his oracle, and said, Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse for me Jacob, and come, denounce Israel.

¹² Your proverbs are like unto ashes, your defenses are defenses of clay.

¹ Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said,

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil. ² And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. ⁴ And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one on his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were finished, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

¹⁰ Have not you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? you have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions are increased in the land.

³ So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

²⁸ For the LORD loves justice, and forsakes not his saints; they are preserved forever: but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

²⁸ And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down, and to destroy, and to afflict; so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, says the LORD.

¹ Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

¹⁷ And your life shall be brighter than the noonday; you shall shine forth, you shall be as the morning.

⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

¹⁷ How often is the lamp of the wicked put out! and how often comes their destruction upon them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.

²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established for you: and the light shall shine upon your ways.

⁶ There are many that say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift up the light of your countenance upon us.

²⁸ For you will light my lamp: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

⁴ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁰ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in utter darkness.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

⁴ And he shall judge between the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

¹² Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

⁴⁶ I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believes on me should not abide in darkness.

⁸ For you were once darkness, but now are you light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

¹⁴ Therefore he says, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

⁸ Have you heard the council of God? and do you limit wisdom to yourself?

¹⁴ The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.

⁵ For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret place of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

¹ He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

³² For the perverse is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

³ For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

²⁷ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before you; and shall say, Destroy them. ²⁸ Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of grain and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. ²⁹ Happy are you, O Israel: who is like unto you, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, and who is the sword of your excellency! and your enemies shall submit unto you; and you shall tread upon their high places.

⁹ Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

¹² And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor. ¹³ And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where are all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD has forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

⁸ Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: ⁹ On the left hand, where he does work, but I cannot behold him: he hides himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: ¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take: when he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.

¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. ¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

⁷ LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain to stand strong: you did hide your face, and I was troubled.

² For you are the God of my strength: why do you cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

⁸ In God we boast all the day long, and praise your name forever. Selah. ⁹ But you have cast off, and put us to shame; and go not forth with our armies.

³ Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. ⁴ As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. ⁵ Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: your children like olive plants round about your table.

⁶ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children is their fathers.

⁴ He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

¹ By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not. ² I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the squares I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.

⁸ O the hope of Israel, its savior in time of trouble, why should you be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turns aside to tarry for a night?

¹⁵ And Jesus said unto them, Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

¹¹ Binding his foal unto the vine, and his donkey’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; ¹⁴ Curds of the cattle, and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the finest of the wheat; and you did drink the pure blood of the grape.

²⁴ And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil.

¹⁷ He shall not see the rivers, the brooks flowing with honey and butter.

¹⁶ He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied you.

¹⁸ Judges and officers shall you make in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, throughout your tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

¹⁹ Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

¹ Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spoke came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down. ² And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit down here. And they sat down.

¹¹ And all the people that were at the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and may you do worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem:

²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw I had help in the gate:

¹⁶ These are the things that you shall do; Speak you every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:

³² You shall rise up before the gray headed, and honor the face of the old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD.

³¹ White hair is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.

⁸ A king that sits in the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same: ⁴ For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.

⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

¹ Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,

¹⁷ Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

⁵ Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.

¹⁹ And they said unto him, Hold your peace, lay your hand upon your mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for you to be a priest to the house of one man, or that you be a priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?

² If we venture to converse with you, will you be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

¹¹ Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

⁵ Look at me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.

⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words there lacks not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.

³² If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, lay your hand upon your mouth.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger:

⁶ If I do not remember you, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

²⁶ And I will make your tongue cleave to the roof of your mouth, that you shall be dumb, and shall not be to them one who reproves: for they are a rebellious house.

²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

² When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bears rule, the people mourn.

²² And all bore him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

²⁷ And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman of the crowd lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which you have nursed.

²² You shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ And my wrath shall grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the stranger, in giving him food and clothing.

² For there were those that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore let us get grain for them, that we may eat, and live. ³ Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy grain, because of the famine. ⁴ There were also those that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tax, and that upon our lands and vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards. ⁶ And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. ⁷ Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, you exact interest, every one from his brother. And I held a great assembly against them. ⁸ And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, who were sold unto the nations; and will you even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer. ⁹ Also I said, It is not good what you do: ought you not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations our enemies? ¹⁰ I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, are lending them money and grain: I pray you, let us stop this charging interest. ¹¹ Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the wine, and the oil, that you exact of them. ¹² Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as you say. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. ¹³ Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that performs not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

⁵ Is not your wickedness great? and your iniquities without end? ⁶ For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelt in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

⁴ They drive the needy off the road: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it;

⁵ A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

¹² For he shall deliver the needy when he cries; the poor also, and him that has no helper.

² How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. ³ Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. ⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

¹³ Whosoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

¹¹ Deliver those that are drawn toward death, hold back those that are stumbling to the slaughter; ¹² If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not he that weighs the heart consider it? and he that keeps your soul, does not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? says the LORD.

²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

¹¹ And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD your God has chosen to place his name there.

¹³ In any case you shall deliver him the pledge again when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his own clothing, and bless you: and it shall be righteousness unto you before the LORD your God.

⁵ And you shall speak and say before the LORD your God, An Aramean ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:

¹⁰ Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet wine, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be you grieved; for the joy of the LORD is your strength. ¹¹ So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be you grieved. ¹² And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁴ O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for you shall judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

⁶ Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. ⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. ⁸ Open your mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all who are left desolate. ⁹ Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

¹³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

¹⁴ Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall wail for anguish of spirit.

³⁹ Then Peter arose and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. ⁴⁰ But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. ⁴¹ And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

¹² For the administration of this service not only supplies the need of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; ¹³ While by the proof of this ministry they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; ¹⁴ And by their prayer for you, who long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chains: ¹⁷ But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ¹⁸ The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, you know very well.

⁷ For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints are refreshed by you, brother.

⁶ My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

⁹ Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your saints shout for joy.

⁵ In that day shall the LORD of hosts be a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the remnant of his people,

¹⁷ For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

³ You shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

⁷ By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁸ And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of saints.

³¹ And he said, Leave us not, I pray you; forasmuch as you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

¹² For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. ¹³ For by one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. ¹⁴ For the body is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁶ And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? ¹⁸ But now has God set the members every one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. ¹⁹ And if they were all one member, where would be the body? ²⁰ But now are they many members, yet but one body. ²¹ And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of you: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. ²² Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: ²³ And those members of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our less respectable parts have greater respect. ²⁴ For our more respectable parts have no need: but God has arranged the body together, having given more abundant honor to that part which lacked: ²⁵ That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. ²⁶ And whether one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it. ²⁷ Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular. ²⁸ And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helpers, administrators, various kinds of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? ³⁰ Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? ³¹ But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet I show unto you a more excellent way.

²⁶ And they judged the people at all times: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

¹⁴ Then shall you inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for you in judgment, between bloodsheds, between legal rights, and between assaults, being matters of controversy within your gates: then shall you arise, and get you up into the place which the LORD your God shall choose; ⁹ And you shall come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall show you the sentence of judgment: ¹⁰ And you shall do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show you; and you shall observe to do according to all that they inform you:

¹⁶ Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him. ¹⁷ And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. ¹⁸ And it came to pass the third day after that I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except we two in the house. ¹⁹ And this woman’s child died in the night; because she laid on it. ²⁰ And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. ²¹ And when I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, it was dead: but when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I did bear. ²² And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is your son. And the first said, No; but the dead is your son, and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king. ²³ Then said the king, The one says, This is my son that lives, and your son is dead: and the other says, Nay; but your son is dead, and my son is living. ²⁴ And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. ²⁶ Then spoke the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her heart yearned for her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and by no means slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor yours, but divide it. ²⁷ Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and by no means slay it: she is the mother of it. ²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

⁷ And he had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maiden was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took as his own daughter.

¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided him from my mother’s womb;)

² It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.

⁷ The righteous considers the cause of the poor: but the wicked regards not such knowledge.

¹ Be you therefore followers of God, as dear children;

³⁵ And I went out after him, and struck him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and slew him.

⁷ Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for you have smitten all my enemies upon the cheek bone; you have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

⁸ As a snail who melts, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

³ Then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us:

⁶ Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

¹⁴ There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

¹² And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

⁴⁹ And Joseph gathered grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he quit numbering; for it was without number.

²⁶ You shall come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in in its season.

¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. ¹⁷ So Job died, being old and full of days.

⁶ And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. ⁷ LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain to stand strong: you did hide your face, and I was troubled.

¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

²³ O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makes your nest in the cedars, how gracious shall you be when pangs come upon you, the pain as of a woman in travail!

¹⁶ Your fierceness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, that hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD.

⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there will I bring you down, says the LORD.

⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of ruin!

¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper.

⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when the heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁵ I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. ⁶ His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his fragrance as Lebanon. ⁷ They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the grain, and grow as the vine: their scent shall be as the wine of Lebanon.

¹³ And you shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you have seen; and you shall haste and bring down my father here.

²⁴ But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from there is the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel:)

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban.

³ But you, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.

³⁴ He teaches my hands to make war, so that a bow of bronze is bent by my arms.

⁵ Who satisfies your mouth with good things; so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

³¹ But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

¹⁶ For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

⁹ The princes refrained from talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:

² My teaching shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:

¹⁵ They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking. ¹⁶ When I had waited, (for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more;)

³¹ Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold your peace, and I will speak. ³² If you have any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify you. ³³ If not, hearken unto me: hold your peace, and I shall teach you wisdom.

¹¹ Your lips, O my spouse, drop like the honeycomb: honey and milk are under your tongue; and the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

¹⁵ So shall he startle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

⁴⁶ Son of man, set your face toward the south, and proclaim your word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

¹⁶ Now therefore hear you the word of the LORD: you say, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not your word against the house of Isaac.

⁶ Prophesy not, they say to them that prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not be shamed.

⁴⁶ And no man was able to answer him a word, neither dared any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

³ Let us know, let us press on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

¹ Ask of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to everyone grass in the field.

²⁶ And told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob's heart fainted, for he believed them not.

¹⁵ Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of your countenance.

¹ [A song of ascents.] When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.

⁴¹ And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any food?

¹⁴ And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. ¹⁵ And he divided his forces against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. ¹⁶ And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people. ¹⁷ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the King's Valley.

⁴⁰ You shall be over my house, and according unto your word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than you.

⁵ And he was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people and the tribes of Israel were gathered together.

⁸ And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to you now, that you may go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were he that led out and brought in Israel: and the LORD said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel.

¹ And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. ² And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seems good unto you, and that it is of the LORD our God, let us send out unto our brethren everywhere, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites who are in their cities and pasture lands, that they may gather themselves unto us: ³ And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we have not inquired at it in the days of Saul. ⁴ And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

³ His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

³ Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have upheld him that was falling, and you have strengthened the feeble knees.

³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

³ Strengthen you the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

¹ The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; ² To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ To provide for them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

³ Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; ⁴ Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them who are in any trouble, by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted of God.

⁵ For, when we were come into Macedonia, our body had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. ⁶ Nevertheless God, who comforts those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; ⁷ And not by his coming only, but by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

² And sent Timothy, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to encourage you concerning your faith: ³ That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for you yourselves know that we are appointed unto this.
