¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

⁵ You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you.

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

¹² Blessed is the man whom you chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of your law;

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept your word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn your statutes.

⁹ By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar like chalkstones that are beaten to dust, the idol poles and incense altars shall not remain standing.

¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them whom my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?

³² But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
