¹ Can you draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ² Can you put a rope in his nose? or pierce his jaw through with a hook? ³ Will he make many supplications unto you? will he speak soft words unto you? ⁴ Will he make a covenant with you? will you take him for a servant forever? ⁵ Will you play with him as with a bird? or will you leash him for your maidens? ⁶ Shall your companions make a banquet of him? shall they apportion him among the merchants? ⁷ Can you fill his skin with harpoons? or his head with fish spears? ⁸ Lay your hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more. ⁹ Behold, the hope of subduing him is in vain: shall one not be cast down even at the sight of him? ¹⁰ None is so fierce that would dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? ¹¹ Who has given to me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. ¹² I will not conceal his limbs, nor his power, nor his graceful proportion. ¹³ Who can remove the face of his garment? or who can approach him with a double bridle? ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible all around. ¹⁵ His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. ¹⁶ One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. ¹⁷ They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be parted. ¹⁸ By his sneezings a light flashes, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. ²⁰ Out of his nostrils goes smoke, as out of a boiling pot or caldron. ²¹ His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. ²² In his neck remains strength, and sorrow is turned into dancing before him. ²³ The folds of his flesh are joined together: they are firm on him; they cannot be moved. ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the lower millstone. ²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: because of his crashings they are beside themselves. ²⁶ The sword of him that reaches him cannot avail: neither the spear, the dart, nor the javelin. ²⁷ He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee: clingstones with him are turned into stubble. ²⁹ Darts are counted as straw: he laughs at the threat of a javelin. ³⁰ His undersides are like sharp stones: he spreads sharp pointed marks upon the mire. ³¹ He makes the deep boil like a pot: he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. ³² He leaves a path shining after him; one would think the deep to have white hair. ³³ Upon earth there is not his like, which is made without fear. ³⁴ He beholds every high thing: he is a king over all the children of pride.

⁸ Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to arouse leviathan.

²⁶ There go the ships: there is that leviathan, which you have made to play therein.

¹ In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the fleeing serpent, even leviathan that twisted serpent; and he shall slay the monster that is in the sea.

Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. ³⁴ And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

⁵ For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor. ⁶ You made him to have dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet:

²⁵ And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make sport for us. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made sport for them: and they set him between the pillars. ²⁶ And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Allow me that I may feel the pillars upon which the house stands, that I may lean upon them. ²⁷ Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport. ²⁸ And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray you, and strengthen me, I pray you, only this once, O God, that I may be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. ²⁹ And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. ³⁰ And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead whom he slew at his death were more than they whom he slew in his life.

⁹ He crouched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

⁹ Have you an arm like God? or can you thunder with a voice like him?

¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

⁵ If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, in which you trusted, they wearied you, then how will you do in the jungle of the Jordan?

¹⁷ Then he said unto me, Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose. ¹⁸ Therefore will I also deal in fury: my eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

²² Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

⁵ Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a special treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

¹⁴ Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S your God, the earth also, with all that is in it.

¹¹ Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. ¹² Both riches and honor come from you, and you reign over all; and in your hand is power and might; and in your hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. ¹³ Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? for all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.

² Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself? ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that you are righteous? or is it gain to him, that you make your ways blameless?

⁷ If you are righteous, what give you to him? or what receives he of your hand?

³ For you meet him with the blessings of goodness: you set a crown of pure gold on his head.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The earth is the LORD'S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you: for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.

¹⁶ The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's: but the earth has he given to the children of men.

³⁵ Or who has first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

²⁶ For the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.

²⁸ But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that showed it, and for conscience’s sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof:

²⁵ And God made the beasts of the earth after their kinds, and cattle after their kinds, and every thing that creeps upon the earth after its kind: and God saw that it was good.

⁹ Be you not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, else they come not near unto you.

³ Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

¹⁰ And prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors,

⁴ My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁶ Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

¹⁴ There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

⁴ And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

⁷ After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.

²³ Thus says the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

² And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the scroll, and to loose the seals thereof? ³ And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the scroll, neither to look thereon.

⁵ And one of the elders said unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

⁹ Let the stars of its twilight be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day:

¹⁴ His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

⁸ There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

¹³ And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What see you? And I said, I see a boiling pot; and it is facing away from the north. ¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, with hailstones and coals of fire.

³³ For Tophet was ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he has made it deep and large: its pyre is fire with much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, does kindle it.

⁵ Before him went the pestilence, and burning fever went forth at his feet.

¹⁹ Have you given the horse strength? have you clothed his neck with thunder?

¹⁶ Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be your plagues; O grave, I will be your destruction: pity shall be hid from my eyes.

⁵⁵ O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

³ O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? you have stricken them, but they have not grieved; you have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

¹² Yea, they made their hearts as a flint stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent by his Spirit through the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

²⁸ Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distresses.

⁴ But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken. ⁵ Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah had gone down into the lower part of the ship; and he had lain down, and was fast asleep. ⁶ So the captain came to him, and said unto him, What mean you, O sleeper? arise, call upon your God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

²¹ He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength: he goes out to meet the armed men. ²² He mocks at fear, and is not frightened; neither turns he back from the sword. ²³ The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the javelin. ²⁴ He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage: neither does he halt at the sound of the trumpet.

⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the shouts of the driver.

¹⁰ And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every stronghold; for they shall heap up earth, and take it.

¹⁴ And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and body armor, and bows, and slings to cast stones.

¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: you shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills like chaff.

² And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

¹⁵ And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

¹⁵ And you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.

⁸ Then Abraham died at a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

³⁸ And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in which you go, then shall you bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

¹⁴ The deep says, It is not in me: and the sea says, It is not with me.

¹⁶ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? or have you walked in search of the depths?

³⁰ The waters harden like a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

³¹ White hair is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.

²⁹ The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.

¹⁹ He is the first of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

¹² He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he strikes through the storm.

⁸ The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

⁶ Therefore pride surrounds them as a chain; violence covers them as a garment.

¹⁰ Therefore his people return here: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

¹ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which is on the head of the rich valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

³ Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.

¹ And there appeared a great sign in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: ² And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. ³ And there appeared another sign in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

² And the beast that I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority.
