⁵⁵ I called upon your name, O LORD, out of the lowest dungeon.

¹¹ Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, and bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him to Babylon. ¹² And when he was in affliction, he sought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

⁵ The sorrows of sheol surrounded me: the snares of death confronted me. ⁶ In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. ² He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.

¹³ But as for me, my prayer is unto you, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of your mercy hear me, in the truth of your salvation. ¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the floodwater overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth upon me. ¹⁶ Hear me, O LORD; for your lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of your tender mercies. ¹⁷ And hide not your face from your servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. ¹⁸ Draw near unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of my enemies.

³ The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the pangs of sheol got hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech you, deliver my soul.

¹ [A song of ascents.] Out of the depths have I cried unto you, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice: let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

³ When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then you knew my path. In the way in which I walked have they secretly laid a snare for me. ⁴ I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would acknowledge me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. ⁵ I cried unto you, O LORD: I said, you are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. ⁶ Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise your name: the righteous shall surround me; for you shall deal bountifully with me.

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sank in the mire.

² And said, I cried by reason of my affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of sheol cried I, and you heard my voice. ³ For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods surrounded me: all your billows and your waves passed over me. ⁴ Then I said, I am cast out of your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.

²⁴ Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. ²⁵ And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. ²⁶ And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. ²⁷ And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had fled. ²⁸ But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do yourself no harm: for we are all here.
