³ And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemes.

¹⁶ And he that blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemes the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

²⁹ For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.

⁶ But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ Why does this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

⁶⁴ You have heard the blasphemy: what think you? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had bidden him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner. ⁴⁰ And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have something to say unto you. And he said, Teacher, say on.

³³ The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone you not; but for blasphemy; and because that you, being a man, make yourself God. ³⁴ Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods? ³⁵ If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; ³⁶ Say you of him, whom the Father has sanctified, and sent into the world, You blaspheme; because I said, I am the Son of God?

¹¹ Then they bribed men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. ¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, ¹³ And set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceases not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
