⁴⁶ The Nethinim: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth,

² Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a special vow of persons to the LORD at your valuation, ³ Then your valuation shall be for the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary. ⁴ And if it be a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels. ⁵ And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old, then your valuation shall be for the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels. ⁶ And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then your valuation shall be for the male five shekels of silver, and for the female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver. ⁷ And if it be from sixty years old and above; if it be a male, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels. ⁸ But if he is too poor to pay your valuation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to his ability that vowed shall the priest value him.

²³ Now therefore you are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being slaves, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God. ²⁴ And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told your servants, how that the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were very much afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now, behold, we are in your hand: as it seems good and right unto you to do unto us, do. ²⁶ And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not. ²⁷ And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD, even unto this day, in the place which he should choose.

² Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinim.
