¹² He that is void of wisdom despises his neighbor: but a man of understanding holds his peace.

²⁷ And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trod the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech. ²⁸ And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him? ²⁹ And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase your army, and come out.

³⁸ Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now your mouth, with which you said, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that you have despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

²⁷ But some worthless fellows said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

³⁶ But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, Answer him not.

² And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they finish in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned? ³ Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox goes up, he shall even break down their stone wall. ⁴ Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a spoil in a land of captivity:

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words there lacks not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

⁹ And he spoke this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who know not the law are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) ⁵¹ Does our law judge any man, before it hears him, and knows what he does? ⁵² They answered and said unto him, Are you also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee arises no prophet.
