¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

¹⁶ He has said, who heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, who saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

²² And Samuel said, has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

²⁴ And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinks iniquity like water?

¹³ Therefore the Lord said, Since this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

¹ Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and have come forth out of the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.

² Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching God.

³⁰ Rejected silver shall men call them, because the LORD has rejected them.

³¹ And they come unto you as the people comes, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

² Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know you. ³ Israel has cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

¹⁸ And know his will, and approve the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; ¹⁹ And are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who has the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. ²¹ You therefore who teach another, can you not teach yourself? you that preach a man should not steal, do you steal? ²² You that say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? you that abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege? ²³ You that make your boast of the law, through breaking the law do you dishonor God? ²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

⁹ Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

⁸ But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁵ Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. ⁶ For of this sort are they who creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with various lusts, ⁷ Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

⁴ He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

⁴ For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into licentiousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

²⁷ And there shall in no way enter into it anything that defiles, neither whatsoever works abomination, or makes a lie: but they who are written in the Lamb's book of life.
