¹³ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, that you sorrow not, just as others which have no hope.

⁵² And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

⁵² And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

¹¹ These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. ¹² Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. ¹³ Howbeit Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

²⁴ Martha says unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

² And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

³⁶ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

¹³ Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was hindered until now,) that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among other Gentiles.

¹ Moreover, brothers, I would not that you should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

¹ Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I would not have you ignorant.

⁶ After that, he was seen of above five hundred brothers at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

¹⁸ Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. ¹⁹ If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

⁸ For we would not, brothers, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

¹² That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

¹⁵ For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent those who are asleep.

¹⁰ Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

⁴ And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

⁸ But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
