² Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

¹⁹ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

²³ But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get you behind me, Satan: you are an offense unto me: for you savour not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. ⁹ And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends by means of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when you fail, you may be received into eternal dwellings.

¹¹ If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and dined sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hell he lifts up his eyes, being in torment, and sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

⁴ That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. ⁵ For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

²³ For I am in a tight place between the two, having a desire to depart, an to be with Christ; which is far better:

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) ²⁰ For our conduct is in heaven; from where also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

¹ If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God.

⁵ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil sexual desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust of it: but he that does the will of God abides forever.
