⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

²¹ Blessed are you that hunger now: for you shall be filled. Blessed are you that weep now: for you shall laugh.

²⁵ Woe unto you that are full! for you shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for you shall mourn and weep.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death. ¹¹ For behold this very same thing, that you sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yes, what clearing of yourselves, yes, what indignation, yes, what fear, yes, what vehement desire, yes, what zeal, yes, what revenge! In all things you have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

¹ Go to now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten.

⁷ How much she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. ⁸ Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judges her.
