⁵ And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³⁶ While you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. ³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: ³⁸ That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

²⁸ And just as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

¹⁴ But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
