⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

⁹ That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.

¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

¹⁵ John bore witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

¹⁹ And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?

²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there stands one among you, whom you know not; ²⁷ He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

³² And John bore record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. ³³ And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. ³⁴ And I saw, and bore record that this is the Son of God.

³⁶ And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he says, Behold the Lamb of God!

²⁶ And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bore witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him. ²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, unless it be given him from heaven. ²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He that has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ He that comes from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all. ³² And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no man receives his testimony. ³³ He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God: for God gives not the Spirit by measure unto him. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.

³³ You sent unto John, and he bore witness unto the truth. ³⁴ But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that you might be saved. ³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

⁴ Then said Paul, John truthfully baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

⁹ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

⁴ Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

⁹ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
