¹⁰ The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. ³ But he said unto them, Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him; ⁴ How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for those who were with him, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have you not read in the law, that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? ⁶ But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. ⁷ But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. ⁸ For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

²⁴ And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?

⁴ And he says unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

² And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do you that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?

¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

⁵⁶ And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

¹⁶ And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

²³ If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keeps not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
