² And King David rose to his feet and said, "Listen to me, my brothers and my people. _⌊I myself wanted_⌋* to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and the footstool of our God, and I prepared to build.

² And it was told to Jacob, "Behold, your son Joseph has come to you." Then Israel strengthened himself and he sat up in the bed.

¹⁵ indeed, you may set a king over you whom Yahweh your God will choose, from the midst of your countrymen* you must set a king over you; you are not allowed to appoint over you a man, a foreigner, who is not your countryman.*

²⁰ so as not to exalt his heart above his countrymen* and not to turn aside from the commandment to the right or to the left, so that _⌊he may reign long over his kingdom_⌋,* he and his children in the midst of Israel."

¹ It happened that the king settled in his house. (Now Yahweh had given rest to him from all his enemies all around.) ² And the king said to Nathan the prophet, "Look, please, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God is staying in the middle of the tent."

⁴⁷ The servants of the king also came to congratulate our lord King David, saying, 'Your God has made the name of Solomon better than your name and his throne greater than your throne!' So the king worshiped on the bed.

¹⁷ _⌊David my father desired_⌋* to build a house for the name of Yahweh the God of Israel, ¹⁸ but Yahweh said to David my father, 'Because _⌊you desired_⌋* to build a house for my name, you did well in that it was within your heart.

³¹ Now these are the men whom David appointed for _⌊control of singing_⌋* in the house of Yahweh where the ark rested.

¹ Then all Israel gathered to David in Hebron, saying, "Look—we are your flesh and bones. ² _⌊For some time now_⌋,* even when Saul was king, you were _⌊the one who led the army of Israel in battle_⌋.* And Yahweh your God said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel and will be leader over my people Israel.'" ³ Then all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the presence of Yahweh. And they anointed David as king over Israel according to the word of Yahweh by the hand of Samuel.

¹ And as David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, "Look, I live in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Yahweh is under tent curtains." ² And Nathan said to David, "Whatever is in your heart, do, for God is with you."

⁷ And David took small round shields of gold that were upon the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. ⁸ And from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David captured very much bronze. Solomon made the bronze sea with it along with the columns and objects of bronze. ⁹ And when Tou the king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer the king of Zobah, ¹⁰ he sent Hadoram his son to King David to ask him for peace and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Tou _⌊had been at war_⌋* with Hadadezer. And he brought with him all the objects of gold, silver, and bronze. ¹¹ King David dedicated these also to Yahweh, along with the silver and gold that he had taken from all the nations, from Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, and Amalek.

² And David commanded to assemble the resident aliens who were in the land of Israel and appointed stone craftsmen to cut dressed stones to build the house of God. ³ And David provided much iron for nails for the doors of the gates and for the seams, and abundant copper that could not be weighed, ⁴ and cedar timbers without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought abundant cedars to David. ⁵ Then David said, "Solomon my son is a boy and inexperienced, and the house built for Yahweh must be exceedingly great in fame and splendor throughout every land. I will make preparations for him." So David provided abundant materials before he died.

¹⁴ Now see, with great effort I have made provision for the house of Yahweh: 100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron that cannot be weighed, for there is an abundance. Also timber and stone I have provided, but to these you should add.

²² I will tell your name to my brothers; inside the assembly I will praise you.

⁵ Exalt Yahweh our God, and worship at his footstool. He is holy.

³ "I will not enter into the tent of my house, I will not go up to the couch of my bed, ⁴ I will give no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, ⁵ until I find a place for Yahweh, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." ⁶ Look, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found her in the fields of Jaar.* ⁷ Let us go to his dwelling places;* Let us worship at his footstool. ⁸ Arise, O Yahweh, to your resting place, you and your mighty ark.

¹⁴ "This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.

¹ Thus says Yahweh:
"Heaven is my throne, and the earth is the footstool for my feet. Where is this house that you would build for me? And where is this resting place for me?

¹ How, _⌊in his anger_⌋,* the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion in a cloud! He has thrown down from heavens to earth the splendor of Israel, and he has not remembered his footstool in the day of _⌊his anger_⌋.*

⁴⁹ 'Heaven is my throne and earth is the footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord, or what is the place of my rest?

¹¹ For both the one who sanctifies and the ones who are sanctified are all from one, for which reason he is not ashamed to call them brothers, ¹² saying,
"I will proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will sing in praise of you."*
