And he fathered Uzza and Ahihud. ⁸ And Shaharaim fathered children in the fields of Moab after he had sent them away—Hushim and Baara, his wives. ⁹ And he fathered by Hodesh his wife Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malcam, ¹⁰ Jeuz, Sakia, and Mirmah. Now these also lived nearby their brothers in Jerusalem with their kinsmen. ³³ And Ner fathered Kish, and Kish fathered Saul, and Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-Shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. ³⁴ And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal, and Merib-baal fathered Micah. ³⁵ And the sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tarea, and Ahaz. ³⁶ And Ahaz fathered Jehoaddah, and Jehoaddah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. And Zimri fathered Moza. ³⁷ And Moza fathered Binea; Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son. ³⁸ And Azel had six sons, and these are their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. All these were the sons of Azel. ³⁹ And the sons of Eshek his brother: Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second, and Eliphelet the third. ⁴⁰ And the sons of Ulam were men who were mighty warriors, bowmen, and they had many sons and grandsons, one hundred and fifty. All these were Benjaminites.

⁶ The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, and Jediael, three. ⁷ The sons of Bela: Ezbon, Uzzi, Uzziel, Jerimoth, and Iri, five, the heads of the house of the fathers, mighty warriors. And their enrollment by genealogy was twenty-two thousand thirty-four. ⁸ The sons of Beker: Zemirah, Joash, Eliezer, Elioenai, Omri, Jeremoth, Abijah, Anathoth, and Alemeth. All these were the sons of Beker. ⁹ And their enrollment by genealogy according to their generations, as heads of the house of their fathers, mighty warriors, was twenty thousand two hundred. ¹⁰ The sons of Jediael: Bilhan. And the sons of Bilhan: Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Kenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish, and Ahishahar. ¹¹ All these were the sons of Jediael according to the heads of the _⌊families_⌋,* mighty warriors, seventeen thousand two hundred, _⌊able to go to war_⌋.* ¹² And Shuppim and Huppim were the sons of Ir; Hushim, the son of Aher.

⁴⁰ The sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the clan of the Ardites;* of Naaman, the clan of the Naamites.*

³⁹ of Shephupham, the clan of the Shuphamites;* of Hupham, the clan of the Huphamites.*

¹⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjaminite and _⌊a left-handed man_⌋.* And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* sent a tribute to Eglon king of Moab _⌊through him_⌋.*

²⁰ and Ehud came to him while he was sitting alone in his cool upper room. And Ehud said, "I have a _⌊message from God_⌋* for you." So he got up from his seat. ²¹ Then Ehud reached with his left hand for the sword on his right thigh, and he thrust it into his* stomach. ²² And the handle also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade because he did not draw back the sword from his stomach; and it went protruding out the back.* ²³ And Ehud went out the vestibule, and he closed the doors of the upper room and locked them behind him. ²⁴ After he left, his servants returned. When they saw that the doors of the upper room were locked, _⌊they thought_⌋,* "Surely he is _⌊relieving himself_⌋* in the cool inner room." ²⁵ And they waited so long they became embarrassed because he did not open the doors of the upper room. So they took the key and opened the doors, and there their lord was lying on the ground dead. ²⁶ And Ehud escaped while they delayed. He passed by the sculptured stones* and escaped to Seirah. ²⁷ And when he arrived he sounded the trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went down from the hill country with him leading them. ²⁸ And he said to them, "Follow after me! Yahweh has given Moab your enemies into your hand." So they went down after him, and they captured the fords of the Jordan toward Moab; and they did not allow anyone to cross over. ²⁹ And they struck Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, _⌊all strong and able men_⌋;* no one escaped. ³⁰ And Moab was subdued on that day under the hand of Israel. And the land rested eighty years.*

¹ And again the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and Ehud died.

²⁵ And the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.

⁵² And Shobal the father of Kiriath-Jearim had other sons: Haroeh, half of the Menuhoth.

⁵⁴ The sons of Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Ataroth-Beth-Joab, and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites.

⁶⁰ And from the tribe of Benjamin, Geba with its pasturelands, Alemeth with its pasturelands, and Anathoth with its pasturelands. All their cities were thirteen cities throughout their clans.

¹⁰ The sons of Jediael: Bilhan. And the sons of Bilhan: Jeush, Benjamin, Ehud, Kenaanah, Zethan, Tarshish, and Ahishahar.

⁶ But to the sons of Abraham's concubines Abraham gave gifts. And while he was still living he sent them away eastward, away from his son Isaac, to the land of the east.

¹ And it happened in the days when _⌊the judges ruled_⌋,* there was a famine in the land, and a man from Bethlehem of Judah went _⌊to reside_⌋* in the countryside of Moab—he and his wife and his two sons.

³³ the people* of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-five;

¹² Then Joshua spoke to Yahweh, on the day Yahweh gave the Amorites* over to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and he said in the sight of Israel,
"Sun in Gibeon, stand still, and moon, in the valley of Aijalon."

⁴⁹ She also gave birth to Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah and the father of Gibea; and the daughter of Caleb was Acsah. ⁵⁰ These were the _⌊descendants_⌋* of Caleb.

⁴ and Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer was the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.

⁶³ But the descendants* of Judah were unable to drive out the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live with the descendants* of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.

²⁸ Zela, Haeleph, Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath; fourteen cities and their villages. This is the inheritance of the descendants* of Benjamin according to their families.

²¹ But the descendants* of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites* who lived in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived among the descendants* of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

¹ Now the commanders of the people lived in Jerusalem, but the remainder of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in the holy city of Jerusalem, the other nine's place was in the other cities.

⁷ These are the descendants* of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah, son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah. ⁸ And following after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred and twenty-eight. ⁹ And Joel son of Zicri, their chief officer; and Judah son of Hassenuah, second in command over the city.

³⁵ And these lived in Gibeon: Jeiel the father of Gibeon. And the name of his wife was Maacah. ³⁶ And his firstborn son Abdon, and Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab, ³⁷ Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth. ³⁸ And Mikloth fathered Shimeam. And they also lived nearby their brothers in Jerusalem with their brothers.

¹ Now there was a man from Benjamin whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjaminite, _⌊a very wealthy man_⌋.*

⁴⁹ Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malki-Shua; the names of his two daughters were as follows: the name of the firstborn was Merab and the younger was Michal. ⁵⁰ The name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz, and the name of the commander of his army was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle. ⁵¹ Now Kish was the father of Saul, but Ner, the father of Abner, was the son of Abiel.

² And the Philistines overtook Saul and his sons, and the Philistines killed Jonathan and Abinadab and Malki-Shua, the sons of Saul.

⁸ But Abner the son of Ner, the commander of Saul's army, had taken Ish-Bosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.

¹² Then David commanded the young men, and they killed them, and they cut off their hands and their feet, and they hung them at the pool at Hebron, but the head of Ish-Bosheth they took and buried in the grave of Abner at Hebron.

³⁹ And Ner fathered Kish, and Kish fathered Saul, and Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchi-Shua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. ⁴⁰ And the son of Jonathan was Meribaal. And Meribaal fathered Micah. ⁴¹ And the sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.* ⁴² And Ahaz fathered Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. And Zimri fathered Moza, ⁴³ and Moza fathered Binea; and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. ⁴⁴ And Azel had six sons, and these are their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.

²¹ And then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

⁴ (Now Jonathan the son of Saul had a son who was crippled in the feet. He was five years old when the message of Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel, and his nurse had picked him up and fled. It happened that as she was hurrying away to flee, he fell and became crippled. His name was Mephibosheth.)

⁶ So Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David. And he fell on his face and did obeisance. David said, "Mephibosheth," and he said, "_⌊I am ready to serve you_⌋."*

¹⁰ You shall till the land for him, you and your sons and your servants; you shall bring in the produce and it shall be food for the son of your master that he may eat. But Mephibosheth the son of your master may always eat food at my table." (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty slaves.)

¹² Now Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Micah, and all of the dwelling of the household of Ziba became servants for Mephibosheth.

²⁴ Now, Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; he had not taken care of his feet nor trimmed his moustache nor washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he came back in peace. ²⁵ It happened that when he came to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, "Why did you not come with me, Mephibosheth?" ²⁶ Then he said, "My lord the king, my servant deceived me, for your servant had said, 'Let me saddle the donkey that I may ride on her and go with the king,' for your servant is lame. ²⁷ But he slandered against your servant to my lord the king. My lord the king is like the angel of God; _⌊do as you see fit._⌋."* ²⁸ For there was no one in all the house of my father _⌊who were not doomed to death_⌋* before my lord the king, but you set your servant among those who eat at your table. Do I have any righteousness any longer except to cry out to the king?" ²⁹ Then the king said to him, "Why should you speak any more about the matter? I have decided: you and Ziba shall divide the land." ³⁰ Then Mephibosheth said to the king, "Let him take the whole thing, since my lord the king has come _⌊safely_⌋* to his house."

⁴¹ And the sons of Micah were Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.* ⁴² And Ahaz fathered Jarah, and Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. And Zimri fathered Moza, ⁴³ and Moza fathered Binea; and Rephaiah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

² They were armed with the bow, able to shoot right-handed or left-handed, slinging stones or shooting arrows with the bow; they were kinsmen of Saul from Benjamin.

⁸ And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand from Judah, bearing shields and spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin who carried shields and drew bows. All of these were mighty warriors of strength.

³ Look, children* are the heritage* of Yahweh; the fruit of the womb is a reward. ⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children* of one's youth. ⁵ Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.* They shall not be put to shame when they speak with enemies at the gate.

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine _⌊within_⌋* your house. Your children* will be like olive shoots about your table. ⁴ Look, for thus shall a man be blessed _⌊who fears Yahweh_⌋.* ⁵ May Yahweh bless you from Zion, that you may see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life, ⁶ and that you may see your children's children. May peace be upon Israel.
