¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one, ² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. ³ And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person. ⁵ But whoever keeps his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him. ⁶ The one who says that he resides in him ought also to walk* just as that one walked. ⁷ Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the message which you have heard. ⁸ Again, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because* the darkness is passing away and the true light already is shining. ⁹ The one who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness until now. ¹⁰ The one who loves his brother resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. ¹¹ But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. ¹² I am writing to you, little children, because* your sins have been forgiven you on account of his name. ¹³ I am writing to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because* you have conquered the evil one. ¹⁴ I have written to you, children, because* you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because* you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one. ¹⁵ Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ¹⁶ because everything that is in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance of material possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world. ¹⁷ And the world is passing away, and its desire,* but the one who does the will of God remains _⌊forever_⌋*. ¹⁸ Children, it is the last hour, and just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen, by which we know that it is the last hour. ¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us. But they went out*, in order that it might be shown that all of them are not of us. ²⁰ And you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. ²¹ I have not written to you because* you do not know the truth, but because* you do know it, and because* every lie is not of the truth. ²² Who is the liar except the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This person is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. ²³ Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. ²⁴ As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. ²⁵ And this is the promise which he himself promised us: eternal life. ²⁶ These things I have written to you concerning the ones who are trying to deceive you. ²⁷ And as for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you do not have need that anyone teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you reside* in him. ²⁸ And now, little children, remain in him, so that whenever he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming. ²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone* who practices righteousness has been fathered by him.

⁴ Be disturbed but do not sin. Commune in your heart* on your bed and be silent. Selah

²¹ And if you warn him, the righteous, not to sin, and the righteous does not sin, surely he will live, for he heeded a warning. And you will have saved your life."*

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king comes to you; he is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, and on a male donkey, _⌊the foal of_⌋* a female donkey!

²² All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal him."*

¹⁴ After these things Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "Look, you have become well! Sin no longer, lest something worse happen to you."

¹⁹ So Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing from himself except what he sees the Father doing. For whatever that one does, these things also the Son does likewise. ²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything that he himself is doing. And greater works than these he will show him, so that you will be astonished. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them* alive, thus also the Son makes alive whomever he wishes. ²² For the Father does not judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly I say to you that the one who hears my word and who believes the one who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ "Truly, truly I say to you, that an hour is coming—and now is here—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and the ones who hear will live. ²⁶ For just as the Father has life in himself, thus also he has granted to the Son to have life in himself.

³⁶ "But I have a testimony greater than John's, for the works which the Father has given to me that I should complete them—the very works which I am doing—these testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but the food that remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has set his seal on this one."

¹¹ And she said, "No one, Lord." So Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and* sin no more."*

¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.

³³ Children, yet a little time I am with you. You will seek me and just as I said to the Jews, "Where I am going you cannot come," now I say also to you.

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Children, you do not have any fish to eat, do you?* They answered him, "No."

¹ What therefore shall we say? Shall we continue in sin, in order that grace may increase? ² May it never be! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!

³⁴ Who is the one who condemns? Christ* is the one who died, and more than that, who was raised, who is also at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

¹⁴ I am not writing these things to shame you, but admonishing you as my dear children. ¹⁵ For if you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I fathered you through the gospel.

³⁴ Sober up correctly and _⌊stop sinning_⌋*, for some have no knowledge of God—I say this to your shame.

²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

¹⁹ My children, for whom I am having birth pains again, until Christ is formed in you!

¹⁸ because through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

²⁶ Be angry and do not sin;* do not let the sun set on your anger,

⁵ For there is one God and one mediator between God and human beings, the man Christ Jesus,

¹⁴ I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you in a short time.

¹¹ For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, ¹² training us in order that, denying impiety and worldly desires, we may live self-controlled and righteously and godly in the present age, ¹³ looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

²⁴ but he, because he continues _⌊forever_⌋*, holds the priesthood permanently. ²⁵ Therefore also he is able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, because he* always lives in order to intercede on their behalf. ²⁶ For a high priest such as this indeed is fitting for us, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and having become exalted above the heavens,

²⁴ For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf,

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our* God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

⁹ With it we bless the* Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.

¹⁵ but as the one who called you is holy, you yourselves be holy in all your conduct, ¹⁶ for it is written, "You will be holy, because I am* holy."** ¹⁷ And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's work, conduct yourselves with fear during the time of your temporary residence, ¹⁸ because you* know that you were redeemed from your futile way of life inherited from your ancestors not with perishable things like silver or gold, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb

²² who did not commit sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth,*

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,

¹ Therefore, because* Christ suffered in the flesh, you also equip yourselves with the same way of thinking, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ² in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for the will of God. ³ For the time that has passed was sufficient _⌊to do what the Gentiles desire to do_⌋*, having lived in licentiousness, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries,

³ what we have seen and heard, we announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. ⁴ And these things we write, in order that our joy may be complete.

⁸ If we say that we do not have sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, so that he will forgive us our* sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

¹² I am writing to you, little children, because* your sins have been forgiven you on account of his name. ¹³ I am writing to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because* you have conquered the evil one.

²⁸ And now, little children, remain in him, so that whenever he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming. ²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone* who practices righteousness has been fathered by him.

⁵ And you know that that one was revealed in order that he might take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you: the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as that one is righteous.

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.

⁴ You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

²¹ Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

²⁹ On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

⁴² And they were saying to the woman, "No longer because of _⌊what you said_⌋* do we believe, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is truly the Savior of the world!"

⁵¹ (Now he did not say this from himself, but being high priest in that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, ⁵² and not for the nation only, but also that the children of God who are scattered would be gathered into one.)

³² And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself."

²⁵ whom God made publicly available as the mercy seat* through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because of the passing over of previously committed sins, ²⁶ in the forbearance of God, for the demonstration of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just and the one who justifies the person by faith* in Jesus.

¹⁸ And all these things are from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation, ¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if* God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

²⁴ who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we may die to sins and live to righteousness, by whose wounds you were healed.

⁷ But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

¹⁰ In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation* for our sins.

¹⁴ And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

⁶ Then I would not be ashamed when I look to all your commands.

³² I will run the way of your commands, for you will enlarge my heart.*

¹¹ From the trouble of his life* he will see;* he will be satisfied. In his knowledge, the righteous one, my servant, shall declare many righteous,* and he is the one who will bear their iniquities.

⁴⁶ "And why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I tell you?*

¹⁵ "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why* is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.* ²⁴ The one who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

¹⁴ You are my friends if you do what I command you.

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

¹ Finally therefore, brothers, we ask you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus that, just as you have received from us how it is necessary for you to live and to please God, just as indeed you are living, that you progress even more. ² For you know what commands we gave to you through the Lord Jesus.

⁹ and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him,

⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person. ⁵ But whoever keeps his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him. ⁶ The one who says that he resides in him ought also to walk* just as that one walked.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.

¹⁹ By this* we know that we are of the truth and will convince our heart before him,

²² and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what is pleasing _⌊in his sight_⌋*. ²³ And this is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as _⌊he commanded us_⌋*. ²⁴ And the one who keeps his commandments resides in him, and he in him. And by this we know that he resides in us: by the Spirit whom he has given to us.

¹³ By this we know that we reside in him and he in us: that* he has given us of his Spirit.

³ For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,

¹⁴ Blessed are the ones who wash their robes, so that their authority will be over the tree of life and they may enter into the city through the gates.

² They cry out to me, "My God! We, Israel, know you!" ³ Israel has spurned the good; the enemy will pursue him.

¹⁶ They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny him, because they* are detestable and disobedient, and unfit for every good deed.

¹⁴ What is the benefit, my brothers, if someone says that he has faith but does not have works? That faith is not able to save him, is it?* ¹⁵ If a brother or a sister is poorly clothed and lacking food for the day, ¹⁶ and one of you should say to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and _⌊eat well_⌋*," but does not give them what is necessary for the body, what is the benefit?

⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.*

⁸ If we say that we do not have sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

⁹ The one who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness until now.

²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar, for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen is not able to love God whom he has not seen.

⁴⁵ so that they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise Yah.*

³ Blessed are those who observe justice, he who does righteousness at all times.

² Blessed are those who keep his testimonies; they seek him with a whole heart.

⁴ You have commanded* your precepts, that we should keep them diligently.

¹⁴⁶ I call to you. Save me, and I will heed your testimonies.

³² "And now, children, listen to me; happy are those who will keep my ways.

⁷ He who keeps instruction is a child of understanding, but the companion of gluttons will shame his father.

⁵ Whoever obeys his command will not suffer disaster. The wise mind knows the proper time and the right procedure.

²⁷ And I will give* my spirit into your inner parts, and I will make it so that you will go* in my rules, and my regulations you will remember, and you will do them.

²⁸ But he said, "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it!"*

⁵⁶ The one who eats* my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me and I in him.

²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.*

⁵ "I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him—this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything.

¹ Consequently, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

³⁰ But from him you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom to us from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

¹⁷ Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

⁹ because in him all the fullness of deity dwells bodily, ¹⁰ and you are filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority,

²² You see that faith was working together with his works, and by the works the faith was perfected.

³ And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.

²⁷ And as for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you do not have need that anyone teach you. ¹² No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us and his love is perfected in us. ¹³ By this we know that we reside in him and he in us: that* he has given us of his Spirit.

¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God. ¹⁶ And we have come to know and have believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and the one who resides in love resides in God, and God resides in him.

¹⁸ There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear includes punishment, and the one who is afraid has not been perfected in love.

² By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and keep his commandments.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, in order that we may know the one who is true, and we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one is the true God and eternal life.

¹⁷ And the dragon was angry at the woman, and went away to _⌊fight against_⌋* the rest of her children, those who keep the commandments of God and who hold to the testimony about Jesus.

¹² Here is the patient endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and the faith in Jesus.

¹³ Righteousness will go before him, and it will make his steps a pathway.

²⁹ Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that just as I have done for you, you also do.

⁴ Remain in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. ⁵ "I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him—this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything. ⁶ If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw them* into the fire, and they are burned.

¹ Become imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

² and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell.*

²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his footsteps,

⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.* ⁷ But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.

²⁸ And now, little children, remain in him, so that whenever he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming.

⁶ Everyone who resides in him does not sin. Everyone who sins has neither seen him nor known him.

¹⁸ You* shall not seek vengeance, and you* shall not harbor a grudge against _⌊your* fellow citizens_⌋;* and you* shall love your* neighbor like yourself; * I am Yahweh.

³⁴ The alien who is dwelling with you* shall be like a native among you,* and you* shall love him like yourself, * because you* were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your* God.

⁵ And you shall love Yahweh your God with all of your heart* and with all of your soul* and with all of your might.

⁴³ "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor'* and 'Hate your enemy.'*

³⁷ And he said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'* ³⁸ This is the greatest and first commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'* ⁴⁰ On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets."

²⁹ Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart and from your whole soul and from your whole mind and from your whole strength.'* ³¹ The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'* There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² And the scribe said to him, "That is true, Teacher. You have said _⌊correctly_⌋* that he is one and there is no other except him. ³³ And to love him from your* whole heart and from your* whole understanding and from your* whole strength, and to love your* neighbor as yourself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." ³⁴ And Jesus, when he* saw that he had answered thoughtfully, said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to put a question to him any longer.

¹⁹ And they took hold of him and* brought him* to the Areopagus, saying, "May we learn what is this new teaching being proclaimed by you?

⁸ Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another, for the one who loves someone else has fulfilled the law. ⁹ For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, you shall not commit murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,"* and if there is any other commandment, are summed up in this statement: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."* ¹⁰ Love does not commit evil against a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not let your freedom become an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. ¹⁴ For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."*

⁸ However, if you carry out the royal law according to the scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself,"* you are doing well. ⁹ But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and thus* are convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ For whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles in one point only has become guilty of all of it. ¹¹ For the one who said "Do not commit adultery"* also said "Do not murder."* Now if you do not commit adultery but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. ¹² Thus speak and thus act as those who are going to be judged by the law of liberty.

²⁴ As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

¹¹ For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another,

²³ And this is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as _⌊he commanded us_⌋*.

⁵ And now I ask you, lady (not as if I were writing a new commandment to you, but one that we have had from the beginning), that we should love one another. ⁶ And this is love: that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it.

Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

⁹ For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

¹¹ Because Yahweh God is a sun and a shield; Yahweh gives grace and honor. He does not withhold good from those who walk blamelessly.

¹¹ For look! The winter is over; _⌊the rainy season_⌋* _⌊has turned and gone away_⌋.* ¹² The blossoms _⌊appear_⌋* _⌊in the land_⌋;* _⌊the time of singing* has arrived_⌋;* the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.

² The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; light has shined on those who lived in a land of darkness.

¹ "Arise, shine! For your light has come, and the glory of Yahweh has risen on you. ² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but* Yahweh will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the bright light of your sunrise.

² But for you who revere* my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like _⌊fattened calves_⌋.*

¹⁶ the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and the ones who sit in the land and shadow of death, a light has dawned on them."*

⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace."

⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of humanity.* ⁵ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome* it.

⁹ The true light, who gives light to every person, was coming into the world.

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

³⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, in order that everyone who believes in me will not remain in the darkness.

³⁴ "A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another—just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

¹² This is my commandment: that you love one another just as I have loved you. ¹³ No one has greater love than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are my friends if you do what I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you.

³⁰ Therefore although* God has overlooked the times of ignorance, he now commands all people everywhere to repent,

¹⁸ to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

¹² The night is far gone, and the day has drawn near. Therefore let us throw off* the deeds of darkness and put on the weapons of light.

⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. ⁵ For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus* as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus. ⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he* was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

¹ Therefore become imitators of God, as beloved children, ² and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell.*

⁸ for you were formerly darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live like children of light

⁴ But you, brothers, are not in the darkness, so that the day should catch you like a thief, ⁵ for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. ⁶ So then, we must not sleep like the rest, but must be on the alert and be self-controlled. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. ⁸ But because* we are of the day, we must be sober, by* putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet the hope of salvation,

¹⁰ but has now been disclosed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ,* who has abolished death and brought to light life and immortality through the gospel,

²¹ who through him are believing in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that every murderer does not have eternal life residing in him. ¹⁶ We have come to know love by this: that _⌊he_⌋* laid down his life on behalf of us, and we ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers.

¹¹ Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.

²¹ And this is the commandment we have from him: that the one who loves God should love his brother also.

⁵ They do not know or consider.* They go about in the darkness, so that all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

⁴¹ Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would not have sin. But now you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.

¹⁸ and know his will and approve the things that are superior, because you* are instructed by the law, ¹⁹ and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of those in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth in the law. ²¹ Therefore, the one who teaches someone else, do you not teach yourself? The one who preaches not to steal, do you steal?

¹ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a ringing brass gong or a clashing cymbal. ² And if I have the gift of prophecy and I know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. ³ And if I parcel out all my possessions, and if I hand over my body in order that I will be burned,* but do not have love, it benefits me nothing.

⁹ For the one for whom these things are not present is blind, being nearsighted, _⌊having forgotten the cleansing_⌋* of his former sins.

¹¹ But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹³ Do not marvel,* brothers, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that every murderer does not have eternal life residing in him. ¹⁶ We have come to know love by this: that _⌊he_⌋* laid down his life on behalf of us, and we ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers. ¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him?

³ Let us know, let us press on to know Yahweh; his rising is sure like the dawn. He will come like the showers to us, like the spring rain that waters the earth.

²¹ But he does not have a root in himself, but _⌊lasts only a little while_⌋,* and when* affliction or persecution happens because of the word, immediately he falls away.

⁷ Woe to the world because of causes for stumbling, for it is a necessity that causes for stumbling come; nevertheless, woe to the person through whom the cause for stumbling comes.

¹ And he said to his disciples, "It is impossible for causes for stumbling not to come, but woe to him through whom they come! ² It would be better for him if _⌊a millstone_⌋* is placed around his neck and he is thrown into the sea than that he causes one of these little ones to sin.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples,

³² Why that? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if by works. They stumbled over the _⌊stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, ³³ just as it is written,
"Behold, I am laying in Zion _⌊a stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, and _⌊a rock that causes them to fall_⌋*, and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."*

¹³ Therefore, let us no longer pass judgment on one another, but rather decide this: not to place a cause for stumbling or a temptation before a brother.

¹⁰ so that you may approve what is superior, in order that you may be sincere and blameless in* the day of Christ,

¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be zealous even more to make your calling and election secure, because if you* do these things, you will never ever stumble.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked ones is like deep darkness; they do not know what they stumble over.

⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they see with their* eyes and understand with their* hearts and turn, and I heal them."*

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened. For until this very day, the same veil remains upon the reading of the old covenant, not being uncovered, because it is done away with in Christ.

⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, enslaved to various desires and pleasures, spending our lives in wickedness and envy, despicable, hating one another.

¹⁷ Because you are saying, "I am rich, and have become rich, and I have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and pitiable and poor and blind and naked,

¹¹ Also, for the sake of your name, O Yahweh, forgive my sin, because it is great.

Happy is he whose transgression is taken away, whose sin is covered. ² Happy is a person to whom Yahweh does not impute iniquity and in whose spirit there is not deceit.

⁸ Yet he saved them for the sake of his name, to make known his might.

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O Yahweh, act for the sake of your name. Yes, our apostasies are many; we have sinned against you.

²⁰ And when he* saw their faith, he said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven you."

⁴⁷ _⌊For this reason_⌋* I tell you, her sins—which were many—have been forgiven, for she loved much. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little." ⁴⁸ And he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." ⁴⁹ And those who were reclining at the table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" ⁵⁰ And he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

⁴⁷ and repentance and the forgiveness* of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,* beginning from Jerusalem.

¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among people by which we must be saved."

⁴³ To this one all the prophets testify, that through his name everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins."

³⁸ "Therefore let it be known to you, men and brothers, that through this one forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and from all the things from which you were not able to be justified by the law of Moses,

⁶ just as David also speaks about the blessing of the person to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: ⁷ "Blessed are they whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins are covered over.

⁷ in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace,

³² Become* kind toward one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as also God in Christ has forgiven you.

¹⁴ in whom we have the redemption, the forgiveness of sins,

⁴ And these things we write, in order that our joy may be complete.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, so that he will forgive us our* sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one,

⁷ Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the message which you have heard.

¹³ I am writing to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because* you have conquered the evil one. ¹⁴ I have written to you, children, because* you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because* you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one.

²¹ I have not written to you because* you do not know the truth, but because* you do know it, and because* every lie is not of the truth.

² Before the mountains were born and you brought forth the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect* him because he knows my name.

¹² young men and young women as well, the old together with the young—

²⁹ The glory of young men is their strength,* but the beauty of the aged is gray hair.

²⁸ * And it will happen afterward thus: I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your elders will dream dreams; your young men shall see visions.

¹⁷ For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women.

²⁷ All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and _⌊anyone to whom_⌋* the Son wants to reveal him.*

¹⁹ When* anyone hears the word about the kingdom and does not understand it,* the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is what was sown on the side of the path.

³⁸ and the field is the world. And the good seed—these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil one.

¹⁹ So they were saying to him, "Where is your father?" Jesus replied, "You know neither me nor my Father! If you had known me, you would have known my Father also."

⁵⁴ Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. The one who glorifies me is my Father, about whom you say, 'He is our God.' ⁵⁵ And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you! But I know him and I keep his word.

⁷ If you had known me, you would have known* my Father also. From now on* you know him and have seen him."

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, 'Show us the Father?'

³ And they will do these things because they do not know the Father or me.

²¹ that they all may be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, that they also may be in us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me.

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength. ¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil, ¹² because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

¹ Do not rebuke an older man, but appeal to him as a father, younger men as brothers,

⁶ Likewise, exhort the young men to be self-controlled,

⁸ Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. ⁹ _⌊Resist him_⌋*, steadfast in your* faith, because you* know the same kinds of sufferings are being accomplished by your community of believers in the world.

¹ What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched, concerning the word of life—

¹² I am writing to you, little children, because* your sins have been forgiven you on account of his name.

¹⁴ I have written to you, children, because* you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because* you are strong, and the word of God resides in you, and you have conquered the evil one.

¹² not as Cain, who was of the evil one and violently murdered his brother. And _⌊for what reason_⌋* did he violently murder him? Because his deeds were evil and the deeds of his brother were righteous.

⁴ because everyone who is fathered by God conquers the world. ⁵ Now who is the one who conquers the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹⁸ We know that everyone who is fathered by God does not sin, but the one fathered by God, he protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word,* so that I may not sin against you.

³⁸ And you do not have his word residing in yourselves, because the one whom that one sent, in this one you do not believe.

⁷ If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength.

¹³ I am able to do all things by the one who strengthens me.

¹¹ enabled with all power, according to his glorious might, for all steadfastness and patience with joy,

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom, with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God,

¹ You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus,

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will decree with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I am putting my laws in their minds and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be _⌊their_⌋* God and they will be _⌊my_⌋* people.

¹³ I am writing to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because* you have conquered the evil one.

² because of the truth that resides in us and will be with us _⌊forever_⌋*. ³ For I rejoiced exceedingly when the* brothers came and testified to your truth, just as you are walking in the truth.

³ And you have patient endurance, and have endured many things because of my name, and have not become weary.

⁷ The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will grant to him to eat from the tree of life which is in the paradise of God.'

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money.*

¹³ No domestic slave is able to serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money."

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you.

² And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may approve what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.

¹⁰ For am I now making an appeal to people or to God? Or am I seeking to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.

² in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience,

¹ Therefore, if you have been raised together with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. ² Set your mind on the things above, not on the things on earth.

¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evil, by which some, because they* desire it, have gone astray from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains.

⁴ Adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him?

⁵ They are from the world; _⌊therefore_⌋* they speak from the world and the world listens to them.

¹⁰ (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. The one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.)

⁶ When* the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and the tree was desirable to make one wise, then* she took from its fruit and she ate. And she gave it also to her husband with her, and he ate.

² Then* the sons of God saw the daughters of humankind, that they were beautiful. And they took for themselves wives from all that they chose.

⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat?

³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah* because they buried the people that _⌊were greedy_⌋.*

²¹ I saw among the spoil a beautiful robe from Shinar,* two hundred shekels of silver, and one bar of gold that weighed fifty shekels; I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, and the silver is under it."

³ he gave a banquet in the third year of his reign for all his officials and servants. The army of Persia and Media and the nobles and officials of the provinces were in his presence ⁴ as he displayed the wealth of the glory of his kingdom and the glorious splendor of his greatness for many days, one hundred and eighty days*. ⁵ And when those days were completed, the king gave for all the people that were present at the citadel of Susa, both great and small, a banquet in the courtyard of the king's palace garden that lasted seven days. ⁶ There were curtains of finely woven linen and blue cloth tied with cords of fine white linen and purple cloth to silver curtain rings and pillars of alabaster, and couches of gold and silver on a paved floor of alabaster, precious stone, mother-of-pearl, and costly stones.* ⁷ Drinks were served in goblets of gold and _⌊goblets of different kinds_⌋,* and there was _⌊plentiful royal wine according to the bounty of the king_⌋.*

¹ "I made a covenant with my eyes, so* how could I look closely upon a virgin?

⁶ Therefore pride is their necklace; an outfit of violence covers them.

¹⁸ And they tested God in their heart by asking food _⌊for their craving_⌋.*

³⁰ They had not yet turned aside from their craving, while their food was still in their mouth,

³⁶ Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to dishonest gain. ³⁷ Turn away my eyes from looking at what is worthless; revive me in your ways.

²⁵ Do not desire her beauty in your heart; may she not capture you with her eyelashes.

²⁰ Sheol* and Abaddon* will not be satisfied, and the eyes of a person will not be satisfied either.

¹⁰ Whoever loves money is not satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is not satisfied with profit. This also is vanity! ¹¹ When prosperity increases, those who consume it increase. _⌊So its owner gains nothing, except to see his wealth before it is spent_⌋.*

³⁰ And the king answered and said, "Is this not the great Babylon which I have built as a royal palace by the strength of my own power, and for the glory of my own majesty?"

⁸ Again the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,

²⁸ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

⁵ And he led him up and* showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and do not make provision for the desires of the flesh.

⁶ Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as those also desired them,

¹⁷ For the flesh desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, for these are in opposition to one another, so that whatever you want, you may not do these things.

²⁴ Now those _⌊who belong to Christ_⌋** have crucified the flesh together with its feelings and its desires.

³ among whom also we all formerly lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the will* of the flesh and of the mind, and we were children of wrath* by nature, as also the rest of them were.

¹² training us in order that, denying impiety and worldly desires, we may live self-controlled and righteously and godly in the present age,

¹⁵ This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.

¹⁴ As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former desires you used to conform to* in your ignorance,

¹¹ Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your* soul,

¹⁰ and especially those who go after the flesh in defiling lust* and who despise authority.
Bold and arrogant, they do not tremble in awe as they* blaspheme majestic beings,

¹⁸ _⌊For by speaking high-sounding but empty words_⌋*, they entice with desires of the flesh and with licentiousness those who are scarcely escaping from those who live in error,

¹⁶ These people are grumblers, discontented, proceeding according to their* desires, and their mouths speaking pompous words, _⌊showing partiality to gain an advantage_⌋*. ¹⁷ But you, dear friends, remember the words proclaimed beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁸ for they said to you,* "In the end time there will be scoffers following according to their own ungodly desires."

¹¹ And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargo any more— ¹² cargo of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple cloth and silk and scarlet cloth and all kinds of scented wood and all kinds of ivory goods and all kinds of goods of precious wood and bronze and iron and marble ¹³ and cinnamon and amomum* and incense and ointment and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine wheat flour and wheat and domesticated animals and sheep and horses and carriages and _⌊slaves_⌋* and human lives. ¹⁴ "And _⌊the fruit your soul desires_⌋* has departed from you, and all the luxury and the splendor has perished from you, and they will never find them any more." ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who became rich from them, will stand _⌊far off_⌋*, weeping and mourning because of the fear of her torment, ¹⁶ saying,
"Woe, woe, the great city, dressed in fine linen and purple cloth and scarlet cloth, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, ¹⁷ because in one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!"
And every shipmaster and _⌊every seafarer_⌋* and sailors and all those who labor on the sea stood _⌊far off_⌋*

⁶ Surely a man walks about as a mere _⌊shadow_⌋;* surely in vain they bustle about. He heaps up possessions but does not know who will gather them in.

¹⁸ Surely you set them on slippery places. You cause them to fall onto ruin.* ¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors. ²⁰ Like a dream upon awakening, when you wake up, O Lord, you will despise their fleeting form.*

⁹ For all of our days dwindle away in your rage; we complete our years like a sigh.

²⁶ They will perish, but you will endure. And like a garment they will all wear out, you will replace them like clothing, and they will be set aside.

¹ A song of ascents.*
Those who trust in Yahweh are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. ² As mountains are round about Jerusalem, so Yahweh is round about his people, from now until forever.

¹⁰ Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; your Spirit is good. Lead me onto level ground.

²⁵ With the passing of the tempest, there is no wickedness, but the righteous have a foundation forever.

⁶ A voice is saying, "Call!" And he said, "What shall I call?" All _⌊humankind_⌋* are grass, and all his loyalty is like the flowers of the field. ⁷ Grass withers; the flower withers when the breath of Yahweh blows on it. Surely the people are grass. ⁸ Grass withers; the flower withers, but* the word of our God will stand forever.

²¹ "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his* father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God!

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

³⁵ For whoever does the will of God, this person is my brother and sister and mother."

¹⁴ But whoever drinks of this water which I will give to him will never be thirsty for eternity, but the water which I will give to him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."

⁵⁸ This is the bread that came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. The one who eats* this bread will live _⌊forever_⌋."*

¹⁷ If anyone wants to do his will, he will know about my* teaching, whether it is from God or I am speaking from myself.

²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish _⌊forever_⌋,* and no one will seize them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them* to me, is greater than all, and no one can seize them* from the Father's hand. ³⁰ The Father and I are one."

³¹ and those who make use of the world as if they do not make full use of it. For the present form of this world is passing away.

⁹ Because of this also we, from the day we heard about it,* did not cease praying for you, and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual insight,

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, greets you, a slave of Christ* always struggling on behalf of you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured* in all the will of God.

³ For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;

¹⁸ give thanks in everything; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

³⁶ For you have need of endurance, in order that after you* have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

¹⁰ but the rich person in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a flower of the grass. ¹¹ For the sun rises with its burning heat and dries up the grass, and its flower falls off, and the beauty of its appearance is lost. So also the rich person in his pursuits* will wither away.

¹⁴ you who do not know _⌊what will happen tomorrow_⌋*, _⌊what your life will be like_⌋*. For you are a smoky vapor that appears for a short time and then disappears.

⁵ who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time,

²⁴ For
"all flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of the grass. The grass withers and the flower falls off, ²⁵ but the word of the Lord endures _⌊forever_⌋*."*
And this is the word that has been proclaimed to you.

² in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for the will of God.

⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will deceive many.

¹¹ and many false prophets will appear and will deceive many,

²⁴ For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce great signs and wonders in order to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

⁶ Many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and they will deceive many.

²¹ "And at that time if anyone should say to you, "Behold, here is the Christ,' 'Behold, there he is,' do not believe him!* ²² For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce signs and wonders in order to mislead, if possible, the elect.

²⁹ I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ And from among you yourselves men will arise, speaking _⌊perversions of the truth_⌋* in order to draw away the disciples after them.

³ Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, ⁴ who opposes and who exalts himself over every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits down in the temple of God, proclaiming that he himself is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that while* we were still with you, we were saying these things to you? ⁶ And you know that which restrains him now, so that he will be revealed in his own time. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness is at work already; only the one who now restrains* will do so until he is out of the way,* ⁸ and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth, and wipe out by the appearance of his coming, ⁹ whose coming is in accordance with the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie, ¹² in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth, but delighted in unrighteousness.

¹ Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, ² by the hypocrisy of liars, who are seared in their own conscience, ³ who forbid marrying and insist on abstaining from foods that God created for sharing in with thankfulness by those who believe and who know the truth,

¹ But know this, that in the last days difficult times will come, ² for people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ hardhearted, irreconcilable, slanderous, without self-control, savage, with no interest for what is good, ⁴ traitors, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God, ⁵ maintaining a form of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid these people. ⁶ For from these are those who slip into houses and captivate foolish women loaded down with sins, led by various kinds of desires,

³ For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound teaching, but in accordance with their own desires, they will accumulate for themselves teachers, _⌊because they have an insatiable curiosity_⌋*, ⁴ and they will turn away from the hearing of the truth, but will turn to myths.

² in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the world,*

²⁰ who was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has been revealed in these last times for you

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you also, who will bring in _⌊destructive heresies_⌋*, even denying the Master who bought them, thus* bringing on themselves swift destruction.

³ above all knowing this, that in the last days scoffers will come with scoffing, following according to their own desires

²² Who is the liar except the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This person is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

¹ Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

³ and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

⁷ For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess Jesus Christ* coming in the flesh. This person is the deceiver and the antichrist!

¹⁸ for they said to you,* "In the end time there will be scoffers following according to their own ungodly desires."

¹³ _⌊worthless men_⌋* have gone out from your midst and have seduced the inhabitants of their town, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Let us go and serve other gods!' whom you have not known,

⁹ But* the righteous holds on to his way, and _⌊he who has clean hands_⌋* increases in strength.

²⁸ For Yahweh loves justice and will not forsake his faithful ones. They are protected forever. But the children of the wicked will be cut off.

⁹ Even _⌊my close friend_⌋,* whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.

³⁸ And they will be for me a people, and I will be for them God. ³⁹ And I will give to them one heart and one way, to revere me _⌊forever_⌋,* for good to them, and to their children after them. ⁴⁰ And I will _⌊make_⌋* with them _⌊an everlasting covenant_⌋* that I will not turn away from them, my doing good to them, and my reverence I will put in their hearts* so that they will not turn aside from me.

²⁰ And what was sown on the rocky ground—this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. ²¹ But he does not have a root in himself, but _⌊lasts only a little while_⌋,* and when* affliction or persecution happens because of the word, immediately he falls away.

⁵ And other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil, and it sprang up at once, because it did not have any depth of soil. ⁶ And when the sun rose it was scorched, and because it did not have enough root, it withered.

¹⁶ And these are like* the ones sown on the rocky ground, who whenever they hear the word immediately receive it with joy. ¹⁷ And they have no root in themselves, but are temporary. Then when* affliction or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they fall away.

²² For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce signs and wonders in order to mislead, if possible, the elect.

¹³ And those on the rock are those who receive the word with joy when they hear it,* and these do not have enough root, who believe for a time and in a time of testing fall away.

³⁷ Everyone whom the Father gives to me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never throw out, ³⁸ because I have come down from heaven not that I should do my will, but the will of the one who sent me. ³⁹ Now this is the will of the one who sent me: that everyone whom he has given me, I would not lose any of them,* but raise them* up on the last day.

² Every branch that does not bear fruit in me, he removes it, and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes it in order that it may bear more fruit.

²⁴ Because we have heard that some have gone out from among us—to whom we gave no orders—and* have thrown you into confusion by words upsetting your _⌊minds_⌋,*

³⁰ And from among you yourselves men will arise, speaking _⌊perversions of the truth_⌋* in order to draw away the disciples after them.

⁶ But it is not as if the word of God had failed. For not all those who are descended from Israel are truly Israel,

⁵ So in this way also at the present time, there is a remnant _⌊selected by grace_⌋*. ⁶ But if by grace, it is no longer by works, for otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

¹⁹ For indeed it is necessary that there be factions among you, in order that those who are approved may become evident among you.

¹⁰ Because of this, I endure all things for the sake of the chosen, in order that they also may obtain salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

¹⁹ However, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his,"* and "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must abstain from unrighteousness."

⁹ But they will not progress to a greater extent, for their folly will be quite evident to everyone, as also the folly of those two was.

³⁹ But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but among those who have faith to the preservation of our souls.

² according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and for sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ. May grace and peace be multiplied to you. ³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you ⁵ who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time,

²⁰ For if, after they* have escaped from the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord* and Savior Jesus Christ, and they are again entangled in these things and succumb to them, the last state has become worse for them than the first. ²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.

¹ Jude,* a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to those who are called, loved in God the Father and kept for* Jesus Christ.

¹⁹ These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly, not having the Spirit.

¹⁰ for you will not abandon my soul to Sheol; you will not give your faithful one to see the grave.

⁵ You prepare before me a table in the presence of my oppressors. You anoint my head with oil; my cup is overflowing.

⁷ You love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you from among your companions with festive oil.

²² On my part, I will praise you with a stringed instrument, and your faithfulness, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ But you have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; you have anointed me* with fresh oil.

⁵ Men of evil do not understand justice, but seekers of Yahweh understand completely.*

³ For I am Yahweh, your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior. I give you Egypt as ransom, Cush and Seba in place of you.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound,

²⁴ saying, "_⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,

³⁴ "Ha! _⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

⁴ Whenever he sends out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. ⁵ And they will never follow a stranger, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers."

²⁶ But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name—that one will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything that I said to you.

¹³ But when he—the Spirit of truth—comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come.

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you.

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth—how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

¹⁵ Now the spiritual person discerns all things, but he himself is judged by no one.

²¹ Now the one who establishes us together with you in Christ and who anoints us is God, ²² who also sealed us and gave the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.

⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; because of this God, your God, has anointed you with the olive oil of joy more than your companions.*

¹¹ And they will not teach each one his fellow citizen and each one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

²⁷ And as for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you do not have need that anyone teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you reside* in him.

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:
"This is what the holy one, the true one, the one who has the key of David, the one who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one can open, says:

⁸ And the four living creatures, _⌊each one_⌋* of them, had six wings apiece, full of eyes around and inside, and they do not have rest day and night, saying,
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God All-Powerful,* the one who was and the one who is and the one who is coming!"

⁵ may the wise hear and increase learning, and the one who understands gain direction,*

⁸ Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke the wise and he will love you. ⁹ Give to a wise one and he will become more wise; _⌊teach_⌋* a righteous one and he will increase learning.

¹⁴ Now I myself also am convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to instruct one another. ¹⁵ But I have written to you more boldly on some points, so as to remind you again because of the grace that has been given to me by God,

¹² Therefore I intend to remind you continually concerning these things, although you know them and are established in the truth that you have.

⁵ Now I want to remind you, although you know everything once and for all,* that Jesus,* having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, the second time destroyed those who did not believe.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father! That one was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth, because truth is not in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from his own nature,* because he is a liar and the father _⌊of lies_⌋.*

² You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the speechless idols, however you were led. ³ Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed," and no one is able to say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Children, it is the last hour, and just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen, by which we know that it is the last hour.

²³ Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.

⁴ For certain men* have slipped in stealthily, who were designated long ago for this condemnation, ungodly ones, who change the grace of our God into licentiousness and who deny our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ Behold, I am causing those of the synagogue of Satan, the ones who call themselves Jews and are not, but are lying—behold, I will make them _⌊come_⌋* and kneel down before your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

³⁰ The Father and I are one."

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, 'Show us the Father?' ¹⁰ Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works.

²³ The one who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been fathered by God, and everyone who loves _⌊the father_⌋* also loves the child fathered by him.

⁹ Everyone who goes too far and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in the teaching—this person has both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house and do not speak a greeting to him, ¹¹ because the one who speaks a greeting to him shares in his evil deeds.

²³ Buy truth and do not sell it, wisdom and instruction and understanding.

² just as those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word from the beginning passed on to us,

⁴⁴ "_⌊You take these words to heart_⌋,* for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men."

²⁵ So they began to say to him,* "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "_⌊What_⌋* I have been saying to you from the beginning.

⁹ "Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. ¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

²¹ that they all may be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you, that they also may be in us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me. ²² And the glory that you have given to me, I have given to them, in order that they may be one, just as we are one— ²³ I in them, and you in me, in order that they may be completed in one, so that the world may know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me. ²⁴ "Father, those whom you have given to me—I want that those also may be with me where I am, in order that they may see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

¹⁵ Now you also know, Philippians, that at the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone,

¹ Because of this, it is all the more necessary that we pay attention to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

¹⁴ For we have become partners of Christ, if indeed we hold fast the beginning of our commitment steadfast until the end,

³ what we have seen and heard, we announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ And we have come to know and have believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and the one who resides in love resides in God, and God resides in him.

³ Therefore remember how you have received and heard, and observe it, and repent. If therefore you are not on the alert, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come against you.

¹¹ I am coming quickly! Hold fast to what you have, so that no one may take away your crown.

² And many from those sleeping _⌊in the dusty ground_⌋* will awake, some to _⌊everlasting life_⌋* and some to disgrace and _⌊everlasting contempt_⌋.*

³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time and in the age to come, eternal life."

³⁹ You search* the scriptures because you think that you have eternal life in them, and it is these that testify about me.

⁴⁷ Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes has eternal life.

⁵⁴ The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.

²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish _⌊forever_⌋,* and no one will seize them out of my hand.

⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things that I say, just as the Father said to me, thus I say."

² just as you have given him authority over all flesh, in order that he would give eternal life to them—everyone whom you have given him. ³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

⁷ to those who, by perseverance in good work, seek glory and honor and immortality, eternal life,

²¹ so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²³ For the compensation due sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁸ because the one who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

¹⁶ But because of this I was shown mercy, in order that in me foremost, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his total patience, for an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.

¹² Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

¹⁹ storing up for themselves a good foundation for the future, in order that they may take hold of what is truly life.

² in the hope of eternal life which God, who does not lie, promised before eternal ages,

⁷ so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

² and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was revealed to us—

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. ¹³ These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

²⁶ A righteous person will seek out his neighbor, but the way of the wicked will lead them astray.

¹⁰ Because, yes, because they led my people astray, _⌊saying_⌋* 'Peace!' And there is not peace. And when anyone* builds a flimsy wall, look, they coat it with whitewash.

¹³ For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself disguises himself as an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is not a great thing if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.

⁸ Beware lest _⌊anyone take you captive_⌋* through philosophy and empty deceit, according to _⌊human tradition_⌋*, according to the elemental spirits of the world and not according to Christ,

¹⁸ Let no one condemn you, taking pleasure in humility and the worship of angels, going into detail about the things which he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,

¹ Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,

¹³ But evil people and imposters will progress to the worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you also, who will bring in _⌊destructive heresies_⌋*, even denying the Master who bought them, thus* bringing on themselves swift destruction. ² And many will follow their licentious ways, because of whom the way of truth will be reviled. ³ And in greediness they will exploit you with false words, whose condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people. ³⁴ And they will no longer teach each one his neighbor, or each one his brother, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Know Yahweh,' for all of them will know me, from their _⌊smallest_⌋* and up to their _⌊greatest_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember."

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples, ³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not see him or know him.* You know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.

⁴ Remain in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. ⁵ "I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him—this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything. ⁶ If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw them* into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.

¹³ things which we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.*

²¹ if indeed you have heard about him, and you were taught by him (just as truth is in Jesus),

⁶ Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, live in him,

¹³ And because of this we also give thanks to God constantly, that when you* received God's word _⌊that you heard_⌋* from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also is at work in you who believe.

⁷ for which I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am speaking the truth, I am not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will decree with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I am putting my laws in their minds and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be _⌊their_⌋* God and they will be _⌊my_⌋* people. ¹¹ And they will not teach each one his fellow citizen and each one his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.

²³ because you* have been born again, not from perishable seed but imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

¹⁶ For we did not make known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ by* following ingeniously concocted myths, but by* being eyewitnesses of that one's majesty. ¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when* a voice such as this was brought to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

²⁰ And you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. ²¹ I have not written to you because* you do not know the truth, but because* you do know it, and because* every lie is not of the truth.

⁹ And one will say, on that day,
"Look! This is our God! We have waited for him and he saved us! This is Yahweh; we waited for him! Let us be glad, and let us rejoice in his salvation."

¹⁷ Israel is saved by Yahweh with everlasting salvation; you shall not be ashamed, and you shall not be humiliated _⌊to all eternity_⌋.*

² And who can endure the day of his coming? And who is the one who can stand _⌊when he appears_⌋?* For he is like a refiner's fire, like launderers' alkali.*

⁵ Look! I am going to send to you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and awesome day of Yahweh!

³⁸ For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

³³ just as it is written,
"Behold, I am laying in Zion _⌊a stone that causes people to stumble_⌋*, and _⌊a rock that causes them to fall_⌋*, and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."*

⁷ so that you do not lack in any spiritual gift as you* eagerly await the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

²³ But each in his own group: Christ the first fruits, then those who are Christ's at his coming,

⁴ When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

¹⁹ For who is our hope or joy or crown of boasting? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming?

¹³ so that your hearts may be established blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.*

²³ Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ that you observe the commandment without fault, irreproachable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁸ Finally, the crown of righteousness is reserved for me, that the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.

¹³ looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

²⁸ thus also Christ, having been offered once in order to bear the sins of many, will appear for the second time without reference to sin to those who eagerly await him for salvation.

⁷ so that the genuineness of your faith, more valuable than gold that is passing away, but is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

⁴ And when* the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

⁴ and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming? For _⌊ever since_⌋* the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued just as they have been from the beginning of creation." ⁵ For when* they maintain this, it escapes their notice that the heavens existed long ago and the earth held together out of water and through water by the word of God, ⁶ by means of which things the world that existed at that time was destroyed by* being inundated with water. ⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people. ⁸ Now, dear friends, do not let this one thing escape your notice, that one day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day. ⁹ The Lord is not delaying the promise, as some consider slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he* does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will disappear with a rushing noise, and the celestial bodies will be destroyed by* being burned up, and the earth and the deeds done on it will be disclosed. ¹¹ Because* all these things are being destroyed in this way, what sort of people must you be in holy behavior and godliness, ¹² while* waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by* being burned up and the celestial bodies will melt as they* are consumed by heat!

² Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever he is revealed we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.

²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God,

¹⁷ By this love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because just as that one is, so also are we in this world.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have before him: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

⁷ Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even every one who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over him.
Yes, amen.

²³ Can a Cushite change his skin, or a leopard his spots? Then you also will be able to do good, who are accustomed to doing evil.

¹⁶ You will recognize them by their fruits: they do not gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles, do they?* ¹⁷ In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree is not able to produce bad fruit, nor a bad tree to produce good fruit.

¹³ who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a husband, but of God.

³ Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless someone is born from above,* he is not able to see the kingdom of God." ⁴ Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is an old man? He is not able to enter into his mother's womb for the second time and be born, can he?"* ⁵ Jesus answered, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless someone is born of water and spirit, he is not able to enter into the kingdom of God.

³⁵ but in every nation the one who fears him and who does what is right is acceptable to him.

¹⁴ And he said, 'The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One and to hear a voice from his mouth,

¹² training us in order that, denying impiety and worldly desires, we may live self-controlled and righteously and godly in the present age, ¹³ looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds.

⁸ but concerning the Son,
"Your throne, O God, is _⌊forever and ever_⌋*, and the scepter of righteous is the scepter of your kingdom. ⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; because of this God, your God, has anointed you with the olive oil of joy more than your companions.*

² to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth of everything*—in the first place, his name is translated "king of righteousness," and then also "king of Salem," that is, "king of peace";

²⁶ For a high priest such as this indeed is fitting for us, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and having become exalted above the heavens,

¹⁸ By his* will he gave birth to us through the message of truth, so that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ through which things he has bestowed on us his precious and very great promises, so that through these you may become sharers of the divine nature after* escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire,

⁹ Everyone who is fathered by God does not practice sin, because his seed resides in him, and he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God. ¹⁰ By this the children of God and the children of the devil are evident: everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, namely, the one who does not love his brother.

⁷ Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been fathered by God and knows God.

⁴ because everyone who is fathered by God conquers the world.

¹¹ Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God.
