¹ Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ* has come in the flesh is from God, ³ and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. ⁴ You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. ⁵ They are from the world; _⌊therefore_⌋* they speak from the world and the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God. The one who knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit. ⁷ Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been fathered by God and knows God. ⁸ The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. ⁹ By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation* for our sins. ¹¹ Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another. ¹² No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us and his love is perfected in us. ¹³ By this we know that we reside in him and he in us: that* he has given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. ¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God. ¹⁶ And we have come to know and have believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and the one who resides in love resides in God, and God resides in him. ¹⁷ By this love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because just as that one is, so also are we in this world. ¹⁸ There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear includes punishment, and the one who is afraid has not been perfected in love. ¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us. ²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar, for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen is not able to love God whom he has not seen. ²¹ And this is the commandment we have from him: that the one who loves God should love his brother also.

¹ "If a prophet stands up in your midst or a dreamer of dreams* and he gives to you a sign or wonder, ² and the sign or* the wonder comes about that he spoke* to you, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Let us go after other gods (those whom you have not known), and let us serve them,' ³ you must not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer, for Yahweh your God _⌊is testing you to know whether you love_⌋* Yahweh your God with all of your heart and with all of your inner self.* ⁴ You shall go after Yahweh your God, and him you shall revere, and his commandment you shall keep, and to his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast. ⁵ But that prophet or the dreamer of that dream shall be executed, for he spoke falsely about Yahweh your God, the one bringing you out from the land of Egypt and the one redeeming you from the house of slavery, in order to seduce you from the way that Yahweh your God commanded you to go in it; so in this way you shall purge the evil from your midst.

¹⁵ The simple will believe every word, but the clever will consider his step.

³¹ The prophets prophesy _⌊falsely_⌋,* and the priests rule _⌊by their own authority_⌋,* and my people love it* so much. But what will you do _⌊when the end comes_⌋?*

⁸ For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, 'Do not let your prophets who are in your midst, and your diviners, deceive you, and you must not listen to your dreams that you are causing them to dream. ⁹ For they are prophesying _⌊falsely_⌋* to you in my name; I have not sent them,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁵ "Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside are ravenous wolves. ¹⁶ You will recognize them by their fruits: they do not gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles, do they?*

⁴ And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Watch out that no one deceives you! ⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will deceive many.

²³ "At that time if anyone should say to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'Here he is,' do not believe him!* ²⁴ For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce great signs and wonders in order to deceive, if possible, even the elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you ahead of time! ²⁶ Therefore if they say to you, 'Behold, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out, or* 'Behold, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it!*

²¹ "And at that time if anyone should say to you, "Behold, here is the Christ,' 'Behold, there he is,' do not believe him!*

⁵⁷ And why do you not also judge for yourselves what is right?

⁸ And he said, Watch out that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time is near!' Do not go after them!

¹¹ Now these were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica. _⌊They_⌋* accepted the message with all eagerness, examining the scriptures every day to see if these things were so.

²⁹ I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.

¹⁸ For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own stomach, and by smooth speech and flattery they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. ¹⁹ For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, and I want you to be wise toward what is good, but innocent toward what is evil.

¹⁰ to another* _⌊miraculous powers_⌋*, to another* prophecy, to another* distinguishing of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another* interpretation of tongues.

²⁹ Let two or three prophets speak, and the others evaluate.

²¹ but examine all things; hold fast to what is good.

¹ Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will depart from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,

¹³ But evil people and imposters will progress to the worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you also, who will bring in _⌊destructive heresies_⌋*, even denying the Master who bought them, thus* bringing on themselves swift destruction.

¹⁸ Children, it is the last hour, and just as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen, by which we know that it is the last hour.

⁷ For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess Jesus Christ* coming in the flesh. This person is the deceiver and the antichrist!

² 'I know your works, and your labor and patient endurance, and that you are not able to tolerate evil, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles and are not, and you found them to be false.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.

¹³ But when he—the Spirit of truth—comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come. ¹⁴ He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and will proclaim it* to you. ¹⁵ Everything that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he takes from what is mine and will proclaim it* to you.

³ Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed," and no one is able to say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ And most certainly, great is the mystery of godliness:
Who was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated by* the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the Gentiles*, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

²³ Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.

³ and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been fathered by God, and everyone who loves _⌊the father_⌋* also loves the child fathered by him.

³ Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, ⁴ who opposes and who exalts himself over every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits down in the temple of God, proclaiming that he himself is God. ⁵ Do you not remember that while* we were still with you, we were saying these things to you? ⁶ And you know that which restrains him now, so that he will be revealed in his own time. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness is at work already; only the one who now restrains* will do so until he is out of the way,* ⁸ and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth, and wipe out by the appearance of his coming,

²² Who is the liar except the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This person is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish _⌊forever_⌋,* and no one will seize them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them* to me, is greater than all, and no one can seize them* from the Father's hand. ³⁰ The Father and I are one."

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world! Now the ruler of this world will be thrown out!

¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not see him or know him.* You know him, because he resides with you and will be in you. ¹⁸ "I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you. ¹⁹ Yet a little time and the world will see me no longer, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. ²⁰ On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why* is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.*

³⁰ I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has _⌊no power_⌋* _⌊over_⌋* me.

¹¹ and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.

²³ I in them, and you in me, in order that they may be completed in one, so that the world may know that you sent me, and you have loved them just as you have loved me.

¹⁰ But if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ Jesus* from the dead will also make alive your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

³⁷ No, but in all these things we prevail completely through the one who loved us.

¹² Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order that we may know the things freely given to us by God,

¹³ Food is for the stomach, and the stomach for food, but God will abolish _⌊both of them_⌋*. Now the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said,
"I will live in* them and will walk about among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people."*

² in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience,

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith (you having been firmly rooted and established in love),

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength.

¹² because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. ¹³ Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand.

¹³ I am writing to you, fathers, because* you have known the One who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because* you have conquered the evil one.

⁹ Everyone who is fathered by God does not practice sin, because his seed resides in him, and he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God. ¹⁰ By this the children of God and the children of the devil are evident: everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, namely, the one who does not love his brother.

²⁴ And the one who keeps his commandments resides in him, and he in him. And by this we know that he resides in us: by the Spirit whom he has given to us.

⁶ We are from God. The one who knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.

¹³ By this we know that we reside in him and he in us: that* he has given us of his Spirit.

¹⁶ And we have come to know and have believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and the one who resides in love resides in God, and God resides in him.

⁴ because everyone who is fathered by God conquers the world.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

¹¹ And they conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives until death.

⁴ As for the works of humankind, by the word of your lips, I have kept from the ways of the violent.

¹⁰ who say to those who do see, "You must not see!" and to the seers, "You must not see truth for us; speak smooth things to us, see illusions, ¹¹ turn aside from the way, turn aside from the path, put an end to the holy one of Israel from our face."

⁸ For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, 'Do not let your prophets who are in your midst, and your diviners, deceive you, and you must not listen to your dreams that you are causing them to dream.

¹¹ If a man walks about in a spirit of deception and lies, saying "I will preach to you of wine and strong drink," then he would be a preacher for this people!

⁸ And the master praised the dishonest manager, because he had acted shrewdly. For the sons of this age are shrewder than the sons of light with regard to their own generation.*

³¹ The one who comes from above is over all. The one who is from the earth is from the earth and speaks from the earth; the one who comes from heaven is over all.

⁶ So Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. ⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it, that its deeds are evil.

²³ And he said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

¹⁴ I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

³ For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound teaching, but in accordance with their own desires, they will accumulate for themselves teachers, _⌊because they have an insatiable curiosity_⌋*,

² And many will follow their licentious ways, because of whom the way of truth will be reviled. ³ And in greediness they will exploit you with false words, whose condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

²⁰ for teaching and for testimony?" _⌊surely they who speak like this have no dawn_⌋.*

¹⁰ For Yahweh has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep, and he has shut your eyes, the prophets, and he has covered your heads, the seers.

¹² My people, consult _⌊their wooden idols_⌋,* and their divining rod gives them oracles; because a spirit of whoredom led them astray, and they played the whore from under their God.*

⁸ But I, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of Yahweh, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his rebellion, and to Israel his sin.

²² All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal him."*

¹⁹ So they were saying to him, "Where is your father?" Jesus replied, "You know neither me nor my Father! If you had known me, you would have known my Father also."

⁴⁵ But because I am telling the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Who among you convicts me concerning sin? If I am telling the truth, _⌊why_⌋* do you not believe me? ⁴⁷ The one who is from God listens to the words of God. Because of this you do not listen—because you are not of God." ⁴⁸ The Jews answered and said to him, "Do we not correctly say that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?" ⁴⁹ Jesus replied, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me! ⁵⁰ But I do not seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges!

¹⁶ And I have other sheep which are not from this fold. I must bring these also, and they will hear my voice, and they will become one flock—one shepherd.

²⁷ My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

²⁰ Truly, truly I say to you, the one who receives anyone I send receives me, and the one who receives me receives the one who sent me."

¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world is not able to receive, because it does not see him or know him.* You know him, because he resides with you and will be in you.

²⁶ "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father—that one will testify about me.

¹³ But when he—the Spirit of truth—comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come.

³⁷ Then Pilate said to him, "So then you are a king!" Jesus replied, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I was born, and for this reason I have come into the world: in order that I can testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice."

²¹ So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you."

¹ Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

⁸ just as it is written,
"God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear, until this very day."*

¹² Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order that we may know the things freely given to us by God, ¹³ things which we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.* ¹⁴ But the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

³⁷ If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual,* he should recognize that the things which I am writing to you are of the Lord.*

⁷ You are looking at things according to appearance. If anyone is convinced he himself is Christ's, he should consider this concerning himself again: that just as Christ himself is, so also are we.

⁸ with burning flame* giving punishment to those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus,

⁹ whose coming is in accordance with the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie,

² to remember the words proclaimed beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles,

¹ Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁴ You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

⁸ The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

¹⁷ But you, dear friends, remember the words proclaimed beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁶ "And Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your inner self* _⌊so that you may live_⌋.*

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

⁹ But now, because you have come to know God, or rather have come to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental spirits? Do you want to be enslaved to them* all over again?

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

⁹ But concerning brotherly love, I do not have need to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another, ¹⁰ for indeed you are practicing it toward all the brothers in all of Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to progress even more,

⁷ For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-discipline.

²² Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another fervently from the heart,*

¹⁰ The one who loves his brother resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone* who practices righteousness has been fathered by him.

¹⁰ By this the children of God and the children of the devil are evident: everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, namely, the one who does not love his brother. ¹¹ For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another, ¹² not as Cain, who was of the evil one and violently murdered his brother. And _⌊for what reason_⌋* did he violently murder him? Because his deeds were evil and the deeds of his brother were righteous. ¹³ Do not marvel,* brothers, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that every murderer does not have eternal life residing in him. ¹⁶ We have come to know love by this: that _⌊he_⌋* laid down his life on behalf of us, and we ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers. ¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him? ¹⁸ Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. ¹⁹ By this* we know that we are of the truth and will convince our heart before him, ²⁰ that* if our heart condemns us, that God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God, ²² and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what is pleasing _⌊in his sight_⌋*. ²³ And this is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as _⌊he commanded us_⌋*.

¹² No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us and his love is perfected in us.

²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar, for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen is not able to love God whom he has not seen.

⁶ And Yahweh passed over before him, and he proclaimed, "Yahweh, Yahweh, God, who is compassionate and gracious, _⌊slow to anger_⌋,* and abounding with* loyal love and faithfulness, ⁷ keeping loyal love to the thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and he does not leave utterly unpunished, punishing the guilt of fathers on sons and on sons of sons on third and fourth generations."

⁵ For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, and abundant in loyal love* for all who call to you.

¹⁵ But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and abundant in loyal love and faithfulness.

⁵⁴ Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. The one who glorifies me is my Father, about whom you say, 'He is our God.' ⁵⁵ And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you! But I know him and I keep his word.

¹¹ Finally, brothers, rejoice, be restored, be encouraged, _⌊be in agreement_⌋*, be at peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us,

²⁹ For indeed our God is a consuming fire.

⁵ And this is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light and there is no darkness in him at all.

⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.

⁹ The one who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness until now.

⁶ Everyone who resides in him does not sin. Everyone who sins has neither seen him nor known him.

⁷ Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been fathered by God and knows God.

⁷ I will tell the decree; Yahweh said to me: "You are my son; today I have begotten you.

⁶ He had one more, a beloved son. Last of all he sent him to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ John testified about him and cried out, saying, "This one was he about whom I said, 'The one who comes after me is ahead of me, because he existed before me.'" ¹⁶ For from his fullness we have all received, and grace after grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father—that one has made him* known.

¹⁶ For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

¹⁸ The one who believes in him is not judged,* but the one who does not believe has already been judged,* because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God: that you believe in the one whom that one sent."

⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats from this bread, he will live _⌊forever_⌋.* And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."

⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also the one who eats* me—that one will live because of me.

²⁹ And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do the things that are pleasing to him."

⁴² Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I have come forth from God and have come. For I have not come from myself, but that one sent me.

¹⁰ The thief _⌊comes only_⌋* so that he can steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and have it* abundantly.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live, ²⁶ and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die _⌊forever_⌋.* Do you believe this?"

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

⁸ but God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while* we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Therefore, by much more, because we* have been declared righteous now by his blood, we will be saved through him from the wrath. ¹⁰ For if, while we* were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, by much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by his life.

³² Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also, together with him, freely give us all things?

³ For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is your life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

⁵ For to which of the angels did he ever say,
"You are my son, today I have begotten you,"*
and again,
"I will be _⌊his father_⌋*, and he will be _⌊my son_⌋*"?*

¹⁶ We have come to know love by this: that _⌊he_⌋* laid down his life on behalf of us, and we ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers.

¹⁰ In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation* for our sins.

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

⁷ "Yahweh loved you and chose you not _⌊because of your great number_⌋* exceeding all other peoples, for you are fewer than all of the peoples, ⁸ but* _⌊because of_⌋* the love of Yahweh for you and because of his keeping of the sworn oath that he swore to your ancestors,* Yahweh brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

²⁴ "Seventy weeks is decreed for your people and _⌊for your holy city_⌋,* to put an end to the transgression and to seal up sin* and to make atonement for guilt and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal vision and prophet and to anoint _⌊the most holy place_⌋.*

¹⁶ You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and your fruit should remain, in order that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

²⁵ whom God made publicly available as the mercy seat* through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because of the passing over of previously committed sins, ²⁶ in the forbearance of God, for the demonstration of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just and the one who justifies the person by faith* in Jesus.

²⁹ because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be the firstborn among many brothers. ³⁰ And those whom he predestined, these he also called, and those whom he called, these he also justified, and those whom he justified, these he also glorified.

¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if* God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

⁴ But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, ⁵ and we being dead in trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ (by grace you are saved),

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, enslaved to various desires and pleasures, spending our lives in wickedness and envy, despicable, hating one another. ⁴ But when the kindness and love for mankind of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, not by deeds of righteousness that we have done, but because of his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

²⁴ who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we may die to sins and live to righteousness, by whose wounds you were healed.

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,

² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹ See what sort of love the Father has given to us: that we should be called children of God, and we are! Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him.

⁸ The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. ⁹ By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him.

¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us.

³² Then his master summoned him and* said to him, 'Wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt because you implored me! ³³ Should you not also have shown mercy to your fellow slave as I also showed mercy to you?'

³⁷ So he said, "The one who showed mercy to him." And Jesus said to him, "You go and do likewise."

³⁴ "A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another—just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

¹² This is my commandment: that you love one another just as I have loved you. ¹³ No one has greater love than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends.

⁸ I am not saying this as a command, but proving the genuineness of your love by means of the diligence of others. ⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that although he* was rich, for your sake he became poor, in order that you, by his poverty, may become rich.

³¹ All bitterness, and rage, and wrath, and clamor, and abusive speech, must be removed from you, together with all wickedness.

¹³ putting up with one another and forgiving one another. If anyone should have a complaint against anyone, just as also the Lord forgave you, thus also you do the same.

¹⁶ We have come to know love by this: that _⌊he_⌋* laid down his life on behalf of us, and we ought to lay down our lives on behalf of the brothers. ¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him?

²³ And this is his commandment: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as _⌊he commanded us_⌋*.

³⁰ Then Jacob called the name of the place Peniel which means "I have seen God face to face and my life was spared."

²⁰ But he said, "You are not able to see my face, because a human will not see me and live."

⁸ I will speak to him mouth to mouth, in clearness, not in riddles; and he will look at the form of Yahweh.
Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father—that one has made him* known.

¹³ And now these three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

¹⁷ Now to the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, to the only God, be honor and glory _⌊forever and ever_⌋*. Amen.

¹⁶ the one who alone possesses immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no human being has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

²⁷ By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the anger of the king, for he persevered as if he* saw the invisible one.

⁵ But whoever keeps his word, truly in this person the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him.

¹⁷ By this love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because just as that one is, so also are we in this world. ¹⁸ There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear includes punishment, and the one who is afraid has not been perfected in love.

²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar, for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen is not able to love God whom he has not seen.

²⁰ On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why* is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.* ²⁴ The one who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me. ²⁵ These things I have spoken to you while* residing with you. ²⁶ But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name—that one will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything that I said to you.

⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person _⌊does not belong to him_⌋*. ¹⁰ But if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ Jesus* from the dead will also make alive your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you. ¹² So then, brothers, we are obligated not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. ¹³ For if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. ¹⁴ For all those who are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. ¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba!* Father!" ¹⁶ The Spirit himself confirms to our spirit that we are children of God, ¹⁷ and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer together with him so that we may also be glorified together with him.

¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God's temple and the Spirit of God dwells in you? ¹⁷ If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy this one. For God's temple is holy, which you are.

¹⁹ Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, self control. Against such things there is no law. ²⁴ Now those _⌊who belong to Christ_⌋** have crucified the flesh together with its feelings and its desires. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, we must also follow the Spirit.

²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,* ²¹ in whom the whole building, joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom you also are built up together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.*

¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God. ¹⁶ And we have come to know and have believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and the one who resides in love resides in God, and God resides in him.

²⁹ On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

¹¹ Truly, truly I say to you, we speak what we know, and we testify about what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony!

¹⁶ For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge* the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him.

³² What he has seen and heard, this he testifies, and no one accepts his testimony.

³⁴ For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God, for he does not give the Spirit by measure.

⁴² And they were saying to the woman, "No longer because of _⌊what you said_⌋* do we believe, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is truly the Savior of the world!"

³⁶ "But I have a testimony greater than John's, for the works which the Father has given to me that I should complete them—the very works which I am doing—these testify about me, that the Father has sent me. ³⁷ And the Father who sent me, that one has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his form.

³⁹ You search* the scriptures because you think that you have eternal life in them, and it is these that testify about me.

³⁶ do you say about he whom the Father set apart and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,* I will not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

²⁶ "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father—that one will testify about me. ²⁷ And you also will testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.

⁵ Now when both Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul began to be occupied with* the message, solemnly testifying to the Jews that the Christ* was Jesus.

¹² Through Silvanus, the faithful brother (as I consider him), I have written to you _⌊briefly_⌋* to encourage you and to attest that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

¹ What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched, concerning the word of life— ² and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was revealed to us— ³ what we have seen and heard, we announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one, ² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

⁹ If we receive the testimony of people, the testimony of God is greater, because this is the testimony of God that he has testified concerning his Son.

³² "Therefore everyone who acknowledges me before people, I also will acknowledge him before my Father who is in heaven.

⁸ "And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before people, the Son of Man also will acknowledge him before the angels of God,

⁹ that* if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

² By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ* has come in the flesh is from God,

⁵ Now who is the one who conquers the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹ For the music director. Of David, the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song _⌊when_⌋* Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.*
And he said: "I love you, O Yahweh, my strength." ² Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold. ³ I called upon Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised, and I was saved from my enemies.

¹⁹ How abundant is your goodness that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you perform for those who take refuge in you before the children of humankind.

⁷ How precious is your loyal love, O God, and the children of humankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. ⁸ They are refreshed with the _⌊fullness_⌋* of your house,* and you give them drink from the river of your delights. ⁹ For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.

⁴ And since ancient times they have not heard, have not listened, no eye has seen a God except you; he _⌊acts_⌋* for the one who waits for him.

⁶⁹ And we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

⁹ But just as it is written,
"Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and have not entered into the heart of man, all that* God has prepared for those who love him."*

⁸ The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. ⁹ By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation* for our sins.

¹² No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us and his love is perfected in us. ¹³ By this we know that we reside in him and he in us: that* he has given us of his Spirit.

¹⁵ Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town!

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household?

²² Nevertheless I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and for Sidon on the day of judgment than for you!

²⁴ Nevertheless I tell you that it will be more bearable for the region of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you!"

³⁶ But I tell you that every worthless word that they speak, people will give an account for it on the day of judgment!

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

²⁹ because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be the firstborn among many brothers.

² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider the one who endured such hostility by sinners against himself,* so that you will not grow weary in your souls and give up.

¹³ For judgment is merciless to the one who has not practiced mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

²² You see that faith was working together with his works, and by the works the faith was perfected.

¹⁶ But do so with courtesy and respect, having a good conscience, so that in the things in which you are slandered, the ones who malign your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame. ¹⁷ For it is better to suffer for doing good, _⌊if God wills it_⌋*, than for doing evil. ¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,

¹ Therefore, because* Christ suffered in the flesh, you also equip yourselves with the same way of thinking, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ² in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for the will of God. ³ For the time that has passed was sufficient _⌊to do what the Gentiles desire to do_⌋*, having lived in licentiousness, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties, and wanton idolatries,

¹³ But to the degree that you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also at the revelation of his glory you may rejoice and be glad. ¹⁴ If you are reviled on account of the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

⁹ then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to reserve the unrighteous to be punished at* the day of judgment,

⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

²⁸ And now, little children, remain in him, so that whenever he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming.

³ And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as that one is pure.

¹⁹ By this* we know that we are of the truth and will convince our heart before him, ²⁰ that* if our heart condemns us, that God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God,

²¹ Sounds of terror are in his ears; in prosperity the destroyer will come against him.

¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and perishing from my youth. I bear your terrors. I am distraught.* ¹⁶ Your burning anger has passed over me; your sudden fears have destroyed me.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.

⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba!* Father!"

²⁸ Therefore, since we* are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be thankful, through which let us serve God acceptably, with awe and reverence.

¹⁹ You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe, and shudder!

⁴⁷ _⌊For this reason_⌋* I tell you, her sins—which were many—have been forgiven, for she loved much. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little."

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us, because we* have concluded this: that one died for all; as a result all died. ¹⁵ And he died for all, in order that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them and was raised.

³ among whom also we all formerly lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the will* of the flesh and of the mind, and we were children of wrath* by nature, as also the rest of them were.

⁸ whom, although you* have not seen, you love; in whom now you believe, although you* do not see him, and you rejoice greatly with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.*

¹¹ But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹⁷ But whoever has the world's material possessions and observes his brother _⌊in need_⌋* and shuts his heart against him, how does the love of God reside in him?

¹⁸ You* shall not seek vengeance, and you* shall not harbor a grudge against _⌊your* fellow citizens_⌋;* and you* shall love your* neighbor like yourself; * I am Yahweh.

⁴³ "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor'* and 'Hate your enemy.'*

³⁷ And he said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'* ³⁸ This is the greatest and first commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'*

²⁹ Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart and from your whole soul and from your whole mind and from your whole strength.'* ³¹ The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'* There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² And the scribe said to him, "That is true, Teacher. You have said _⌊correctly_⌋* that he is one and there is no other except him. ³³ And to love him from your* whole heart and from your* whole understanding and from your* whole strength, and to love your* neighbor as yourself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

³⁴ "A new commandment I give to you: that you love one another—just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. ³⁵ By this everyone will know that you are my disciples—if you have love for one another."

¹² This is my commandment: that you love one another just as I have loved you.

⁹ Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; be attached to what is good, ¹⁰ being devoted to one another in brotherly love, esteeming one another more highly in honor,

⁹ For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, you shall not commit murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,"* and if there is any other commandment, are summed up in this statement: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."* ¹⁰ Love does not commit evil against a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.

¹⁴ For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."*

⁹ But concerning brotherly love, I do not have need to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another,

⁸ And finally, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, showing mutual affection, compassionate, humble,

⁸ Above all, keep* your love for one another constant, because love covers a large number of sins.

¹¹ For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another,

¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.

¹⁸ Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.

¹¹ Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.
