My God, my God why have you forsaken me? Why are you far from helping me, far from the words of my groaning? ² O my God, I call by day and you do not answer, and by night but I have no rest.* ³ Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. ⁴ Our ancestors* trusted you; they trusted and you delivered them. ⁵ They cried to you and were saved; they trusted you and were not ashamed. ⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people. ⁷ All who see me mock me. They open wide their lips; they shake the head, saying: ⁸ "_⌊He trusts Yahweh_⌋.* Let him rescue him. Let him deliver him because he delights in him." ⁹ Yet you took me from the belly; you made me trust while on my mother's breasts. ¹⁰ On you I was cast from the womb. From my mother's belly you have been my God. ¹¹ Do not be far from me because trouble is near; because there is no helper. ¹² Many bulls have encircled me; mighty bulls of Bashan have surrounded me. ¹³ They open their mouth against me like a lion tearing and roaring. ¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted _⌊within me_⌋.* ¹⁵ My strength is dry like a potsherd, and my tongue is sticking to my jaws; and you have placed me in the dust of death. ¹⁶ Because dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evildoers has encircled me. Like the lion* they are at my hands and my feet. ¹⁷ I can count all my bones; they gaze, they look at me. ¹⁸ They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.* ¹⁹ But you, O Yahweh, do not remain distant. O my help, hasten to help me. ²⁰ Rescue my life from the sword, my only life from the power of the dogs.* ²¹ Save me from the mouth of the lion, and from the horns of the wild oxen answer me. ²² I will tell your name to my brothers; inside the assembly I will praise you. ²³ You who revere Yahweh, praise him! Glorify him, all you seed of Jacob, and be in awe of him, all you seed of Israel, ²⁴ because he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and has not hid his face from him; but he listened to him when he cried for help. ²⁵ From you is my praise. In the great assembly, I will pay my vows before those who revere him. ²⁶ The afflicted will eat and will be satisfied. Those who seek him will praise Yahweh. May your* heart live forever. ²⁷ All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to Yahweh. All the families of the nations will worship before you. ²⁸ Because the kingship belongs to Yahweh, and he rules over the nations. ²⁹ All the _⌊healthy ones_⌋* of the earth will eat and worship. Before him all of those descending into the dust will kneel, even he who cannot keep his soul alive. ³⁰ Descendants* will serve him. Regarding the Lord, it will be told to the next generation. ³¹ They will come and tell his saving* deeds to a people yet to be born, that he has done it.

Save me, O God, because waters have come up to my neck.* ² I sink in the mud of the deep, and there is no foothold. I have come to watery depths, and the torrent floods over me. ³ I am weary with my calling out; my throat is parched. My eyes are exhausted in my waiting for my God. ⁴ More numerous than the hairs of my head are those hating me without a cause. Those who are destroying me—my enemies wrongfully*— are mighty. What I did not steal, I then must restore. ⁵ O God, _⌊you yourself know_⌋* my foolishness, and my guilty deeds are not hidden from you. ⁶ Let those who wait for you not be put to shame because of me, O Lord Yahweh of hosts. Let those who seek you not be disgraced because of me, O God of Israel. ⁷ Because on account of you I have borne reproach; disgrace has covered my face. ⁸ I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother's sons, ⁹ because the zeal for your house* has consumed me, and the reproaches of those reproaching you have fallen on me. ¹⁰ When I wept in the fasting of my soul, it became reproaches for me. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became for them a byword. ¹² Those sitting at the gate talk about me as also* the songs of the drunkards. ¹³ But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Yahweh, for a favorable time, O God, according to the abundance of your loyal love. Answer me with the faithfulness of your salvation. ¹⁴ Deliver me from the mud and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me and from the watery depths. ¹⁵ Do not let the torrent of waters flood over me, or the deep swallow me, or the pit close its mouth over me. ¹⁶ Answer me, O Yahweh, because your loyal love is good; according to your abundant mercies, turn to me, ¹⁷ and do not hide your face from your servant. Because I am in trouble, answer me quickly. ¹⁸ Draw near to my soul; redeem it. Because of my enemies, ransom me. ¹⁹ You know my reproach, my shame and my disgrace. _⌊Fully known_⌋* to you are all my adversaries. ²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart and I am sick. And I hoped for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none. ²¹ They also gave me gall for food,* and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

³⁰ I will praise the name of God in song, and magnify him with thanksgiving. ³¹ For Yahweh it will be better than an ox or bull, horned and hoofed.* ³² The afflicted will see and rejoice. O God seekers, let your heart revive,* ³³ because Yahweh hears the needy and does not despise his own who are prisoners. ³⁴ Let heavens and earth praise him, the seas and all that moves in them, ³⁵ because God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, that they may dwell there and possess it. ³⁶ And the offspring of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will abide in it.

O Yahweh, God of my salvation, I cry out by day and through the night before you. ² Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry. ³ For my soul is full with troubles, and my life approaches Sheol. ⁴ I am reckoned with those descending to the pit. I am like a man* without strength,* ⁵ set free* among the dead, like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, even those cut off from your hand. ⁶ You have set me in the pit below, in dark places, in the depths. ⁷ Your wrath presses upon me, and you afflict me with all your waves. Selah ⁸ You have removed my acquaintances far from me. You have made me detestable* to them. I am confined and cannot go out. ⁹ My eye languishes from misery. I call on you, O Yahweh, every day; I spread out my hands* to you. ¹⁰ Do you work wonders* for the dead? Or do the departed spirits* rise up to praise you? Selah ¹¹ Is your loyal love told in the grave, or your faithfulness in the underworld?* ¹² Are your wonders* known in the darkness, or your righteousness* in the land of forgetfulness? ¹³ But as for me, I cry for help to you, O Yahweh, and in the morning my prayer comes before you. ¹⁴ Why do you reject my soul, O Yahweh? Why do you hide your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and perishing from my youth. I bear your terrors. I am distraught.* ¹⁶ Your burning anger has passed over me; your sudden fears have destroyed me. ¹⁷ They surround me like water all the day; they circle about me altogether. ¹⁸ You have removed loved one and friend far from me, my acquaintances far from my darkness.

A declaration of Yahweh to my lord, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool." ² Yahweh will send out your mighty scepter from Zion; rule in the midst of your enemies. ³ Your people _⌊will volunteer_⌋* in the day of your power.* In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, you will have the dew of your youth.* ⁴ Yahweh has sworn and he will not change his mind, "You are a priest forever according to the manner of Melchizedek." ⁵ O Lord, at your right hand he will shatter kings in the day of his anger. ⁶ He will judge among the nations; he will fill them with corpses. He will shatter the _⌊rulers_⌋* of many countries.

⁶ For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ _⌊His dominion will grow continually, and to peace there will be no end_⌋* on* the throne of David and over* his kingdom, to establish it* and sustain it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

⁶ And he says, "It is trivial _⌊for you to be_⌋* a servant for me,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel. I will give you as a light to the nations, to be my salvation to the end of the earth."

¹³ Look, my servant shall achieve success; he shall be exalted, and he shall be lifted up, and he shall be very high. ¹⁴ Just as many were appalled at you— such was his appearance beyond human disfigurement, and his form beyond the sons of mankind—

¹ Who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of Yahweh been revealed? ² For* he went* up like a shoot before him, and like a root from dry ground. He had no form and no majesty that* we should see him, and no appearance that* we should take pleasure in him. ³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering, and acquainted with* sickness, and like _⌊one from whom others hide their faces_⌋,* he was despised, and we did not hold him in high regard. ⁴ However, he was the one who lifted up our sicknesses, and he carried our pain, yet* we ourselves assumed him stricken, struck down by God and afflicted. ⁵ But* he was pierced* because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; the chastisement for* our peace* was upon him, and by his wounds* _⌊we were healed_⌋.* ⁶ All of us have wandered about like sheep; we each have turned to his own way; and Yahweh let fall on him the iniquity of us all. ⁷ He was oppressed and afflicted, yet* he did not open his mouth; he was brought like a lamb to the slaughter, and like a sheep is dumb before its shearers, so* he did not open his mouth. ⁸ He was taken by restraint of justice, and who concerned himself with his generation? For he was cut off from the land of the living; he received a blow because of the transgression of my people. ⁹ He made* his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. ¹⁰ Yet* Yahweh was pleased to crush him; he _⌊made him sick_⌋.* If she* places* his life a guilt offering,* he will see offspring. He will prolong days, and the will of Yahweh will succeed in his hand. ¹¹ From the trouble of his life* he will see;* he will be satisfied. In his knowledge, the righteous one, my servant, shall declare many righteous,* and he is the one who will bear their iniquities. ¹² Therefore, I will divide to him a portion among the many,* and with the strong ones he will divide bounty, _⌊because_⌋* he poured his life out to death and was counted with the transgressors; and* he was the one who bore the sin of many and will intercede for the transgressors.

³⁴ You were looking on _⌊until_⌋* a stone was chiseled out*—that not by hands—and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and it broke them in pieces. ³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold _⌊all at once_⌋* broke into pieces* and they became like chaff from the summer threshing floor, and the wind carried them away and any trace of them could not be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and it filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.*

¹³ "_⌊I continued watching_⌋* in the visions of the night, and look, with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man* was coming, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and _⌊was presented_⌋* before him. ¹⁴ And to him was given dominion and glory and kingship that* all the peoples, the nations, and languages would serve him; his dominion is a dominion _⌊without end_⌋* that will not cease, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.

²⁴ "Seventy weeks is decreed for your people and _⌊for your holy city_⌋,* to put an end to the transgression and to seal up sin* and to make atonement for guilt and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal vision and prophet and to anoint _⌊the most holy place_⌋.* ²⁵ And you must know and you must understand* that from the time of the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem until an anointed* one—a leader—will be _⌊seven weeks and sixty-two weeks_⌋;* it will be restored and will be built with streets and a moat, but _⌊in a time of oppression_⌋.* ²⁶ "And after the sixty and two weeks an anointed one* shall be cut off, and _⌊he shall have nothing_⌋,* and the people of the coming leader will destroy the city and the sanctuary,* and its end will be with the flood and on to the end there shall be war; these desolations are determined.

¹⁸ And the word of Yahweh of hosts came to me, saying ¹⁹ "Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'The fast of the fourth month, the fifth month, the seventh month, and the tenth month will be for the house of Judah jubilation and joy and merry festivals; therefore love truth and peace.' ²⁰ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'It will happen again that nations and the inhabitants of many cities will come. ²¹ And the inhabitants of one city will go to another city, saying, "Let us go immediately to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh, to seek Yahweh of hosts—I also will go!"

⁷ "O sword, awake against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts. "Strike the shepherd, so that the sheep* may be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the small ones.

⁹ And Yahweh will be king over all the earth; on that day Yahweh will be one and his name one.

²⁴ The Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if that man had not been born."

²⁵ And he said to them, "O foolish and slow in heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Was it not necessary that the Christ suffer these things and enter into his glory?" ²⁷ And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.

⁴⁴ And he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I* was still with you, that everything that is written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled."

⁴¹ Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory, and he spoke about him.

²² Therefore I have experienced help from God until this day, and* I stand here testifying to both small and great, saying nothing except what both the prophets and Moses have said were going to happen, ²³ that the Christ* was to suffer and that as the first of the resurrection from the dead, he was going to proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles."

⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person _⌊does not belong to him_⌋*.

⁶ And because you are sons, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba!* (Father!),"

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, ¹⁹ in which also he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,

²¹ for no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

¹⁰ And I fell down before his feet to worship him, and he said to me, "_⌊Do not do that!_⌋* I am a fellow slave of you and of your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
