¹⁴ Now the Spirit of Yahweh departed from Saul and an evil spirit from Yahweh tormented him.

²³ And God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem, and the lords of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

²⁰ And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" And he woke up from his sleep and said, "I will go out just like every other time and shake myself free," but he did not know that Yahweh had left him.

²⁹ And Samson reached out and held two of the middle pillars on which the house* was resting, and he leaned on them, one on his right and one on his left.

⁶ Then the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul when he heard these words, and _⌊he became very angry_⌋.*

¹⁰ _⌊On_⌋* the next day, the evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. Now David was playing the lyre with his hand on that day _⌊as usual_⌋,* and the spear was in Saul's hand.

¹² _⌊Now Saul was threatened by the presence of David_⌋* because Yahweh was with him, but had departed from Saul.

⁹ Then the evil spirit from Yahweh came upon Saul while he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing a stringed instrument in his hand. ¹⁰ So Saul tried _⌊to pin David to the wall with the spear_⌋,* but _⌊he eluded Saul_⌋,* so that he struck the spear into the wall, and David fled and escaped that same night.

¹⁵ Then Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" And Saul said, "_⌊I am in distress_⌋!* For the Philistines are about to make war against me, but God has turned away from me, and he does not answer me any more, not _⌊by the prophets_⌋* or by the dreams. So I called to you to let me know what I should do."

²² He said, 'I will go out and I will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he* said, 'You shall entice and succeed, go out and do so.'

¹¹ Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.

¹² Even though they bring up their children, I will bereave them before maturity.* Woe to them indeed, when I depart from them!

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered and* said to them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with, but who are you?" ¹⁶ And the man _⌊who had the evil spirit_⌋* leaped on them, subdued all of them, and* prevailed against them, so that they ran away from that house naked and wounded.
