³ And David went up from there to Mizpah of Moab. He said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and my mother _⌊stay_⌋* with you until I know what God will do for me."

¹¹ And Joseph settled his father and his brothers, and he gave them property in the land of Egypt in the best part of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had instructed.

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.

They were Ephraimites from Bethlehem in Judah. And they went to the countryside of Moab and remained there. ³ But Elimelech the husband of Naomi died and she was left behind with _⌊her two sons_⌋.* ⁴ And _⌊they took_⌋* for themselves Moabite wives. The name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other was Ruth. And they lived there about ten years.

¹⁰ And also Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, I have acquired as a wife, to raise up the name of the dead over his inheritance, so that the name of the dead may not be cut off from his relatives and from the gate of his birth place. You are witnesses today."

¹⁷ And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi." And they called his name Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

¹⁸ So Samuel told him all the words and did not conceal anything from him. And he* said, "He is Yahweh, he will do _⌊what is_⌋* good in his _⌊sight_⌋."*

⁴⁷ So Saul took the kingship over Israel, and he fought all around against his enemies, against Moab, against the _⌊Ammonites_⌋,* against Edom, against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. He inflicted punishment against all who rebelled.

²⁵ The king said to Zadok, "Let the ark of God return to the city. If I find favor in the eyes of Yawheh, he will let me return and let me see him in his dwelling place. ²⁶ But if he says, 'I take no pleasure in you,' then _⌊I am ready_⌋.* Let him do to me that which is good in his eyes.

⁴ For God said, 'Honor your* father and your* mother,'* and 'The one who speaks evil of father or mother _⌊must certainly die_⌋*.'* ⁵ But you say, 'Whoever says to his* father or his* mother, "Whatever _⌊benefit you would have received_⌋* from me is a gift to God," ⁶ need not honor his father,'* and you make void the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

²³ Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see _⌊my circumstances_⌋*. ²⁴ And I am convinced in the Lord that I myself will arrive shortly also.

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must learn to show profound respect for their own household first, and to pay back recompense to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God.
