And Yahweh said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save* Keilah." ³ But David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah. _⌊How much more_⌋* if we go to Keilah to the battle lines of the Philistines?" ⁴ So David again inquired of Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him and said, "Get up, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand." ⁵ So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines. They drove off their livestock and _⌊dealt them a heavy blow_⌋.* So David saved* the inhabitants of Keilah. ⁶ _⌊Now when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled_⌋* to David at Keilah, he went down with an ephod in his hand. ⁷ When it was told to Saul that David had gone to Keilah, Saul said, "God _⌊has given him_⌋* into my hand, because he has shut himself in by going into a city with _⌊two barred gates_⌋.* ⁸ Saul then summoned all of the army for the battle, to go down to Keilah to lay a siege against David and his men. ⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ And David said, "O Yahweh, God of Israel, your servant has clearly heard that Saul is seeking to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me. ¹¹ Will the rulers of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O Yahweh, God of Israel, please tell your servant!" And Yahweh said, "He will come down." ¹² Then David said, "Will the rulers of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And Yahweh said, "They will deliver you." ¹³ So David and his men got up, about six hundred men, and went out from Keilah and wandered wherever they could go. When it was told to Saul that David had escaped from Keilah, _⌊he stopped his pursuit_⌋.* ¹⁴ David remained in the wilderness, in the strongholds, and in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him _⌊continually_⌋,* but God did not give him into his hand. ¹⁵ When David realized that Saul had gone out to seek his life, David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh. ¹⁶ So Jonathan the son of Saul got up and went to David at Horesh, and _⌊encouraged him_⌋* through God. ¹⁷ He said to him, "Do not be afraid, for the hand of my father Saul will not find you. You will be king over Israel, and _⌊I will be second to you_⌋.* My father Saul knows this also." ¹⁸ Then the two of them _⌊made_⌋* a covenant before Yahweh. David remained at Horesh, and Jonathan went to his house. ¹⁹ Then the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh on the hill of Hakilah, which is south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ So then, O king, _⌊whenever you want_⌋* to come down, come down, and it will be for us to deliver him into the hand of the king." ²¹ And Saul said to them, "May you be blessed by Yahweh, for you have shown me compassion! ²² Go, please, make certain again! Now David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon in the Arabah, to the south of Jeshimon. ²⁵ And Saul and his men went to seek him, and they told David, so he went down to the rock and stayed in the wilderness of Maon. When Saul heard this, he pursued David into the wilderness of Maon. ²⁶ Saul went _⌊on one side of the mountain_⌋,* and David and his men _⌊went on the other side of the mountain_⌋.* David was hurrying to get away from Saul, while Saul and his men were closing in on David and his men to capture them. ²⁷ But a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Hurry and come, because the Philistines have made a raid on the land!" ²⁸ So Saul returned from pursuing David, and he went to confront* the Philistines. Therefore, they called that place the Rock of Division.* ²⁹ * David went up from there and stayed in the strongholds of En Gedi.

¹⁶ I _⌊in turn_⌋* will do this to you: then* I will summon onto you horror, the wasting disease, and the fever that wastes eyes and that drains away life; and you shall sow your seed _⌊in vain_⌋,* and your enemies shall eat it.

³³ A people that you do not know shall consume the harvest of your land and all your labor, and you will be only oppressed and crushed _⌊for the rest of your lives_⌋.*

⁵¹ And it* shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, _⌊calves of your herds_⌋,* and _⌊lambs of_⌋* your flock _⌊until it has destroyed you_⌋.*

⁴⁴ Keilah, Aczib, and Mareshah; nine cities and their villages.

⁴ They would camp against them and destroy the produce of the land _⌊as far as_⌋* Gaza; they left no produce in Israel, or sheep, ox, or donkey.

¹¹ The angel of Yahweh came and sat under the oak* that was at Ophrah that belonged to Jehoash the Abiezrite; and Gideon his son was threshing wheat in the winepress to hide it* from the Midianites.*

¹⁷ After him the Levites repaired; Rehum son of Bani, and next to him Hashabiah, commander of half of the district of Keilah, repaired his district. ¹⁸ After him their brothers repaired: Bavvai son of Henadad, commander of half of the district of Keilah,

¹⁵ You yourself will sow, but you will not reap; you will tread olives, but you will not anoint yourself with oil; you will tread grapes, but you will not drink wine.

²¹ He will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will ask for him by the decision* of the Urim before Yahweh. On _⌊his command_⌋* they will go out, and at _⌊his command_⌋* they will come in, both he and all of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with him, the entire community."

¹⁴ So the leaders* took from their provisions, but _⌊they did not ask direction from Yahweh_⌋.*

¹ After the death of Joshua, the _⌊Israelites_⌋* inquired of Yahweh, saying, "Who will go up first for us against the Canaanites* to fight against them?"

⁴ So David again inquired of Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him and said, "Get up, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand."

⁶ _⌊Now when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled_⌋* to David at Keilah, he went down with an ephod in his hand.

⁹ When David learned that Saul was plotting evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." ¹⁰ And David said, "O Yahweh, God of Israel, your servant has clearly heard that Saul is seeking to come to Keilah to destroy the city because of me. ¹¹ Will the rulers of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? O Yahweh, God of Israel, please tell your servant!" And Yahweh said, "He will come down." ¹² Then David said, "Will the rulers of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And Yahweh said, "They will deliver you."

⁸ And David inquired of Yahweh, saying, "Should I pursue after this band of raiders? Will I overtake them?" He said to him, "Pursue them, for you will certainly overtake them, and you will certainly rescue them."

¹⁹ And David inquired of Yahweh, saying, "Shall I go up to the Philistines? Will you give them into my hands?" Yahweh said to David, "Go up, for _⌊I will certainly give_⌋* the Philistines into your hand."

²³ So David inquired of Yahweh, but he said, "You shall not go up. Rather, go around to their rear and come to them from opposite the balsam trees.

¹⁰ Then David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you put them into my hand?" And Yahweh said to him, "Go up. I will put them into your hand."

⁸ I* will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go. I will advise you with my eye upon you.

⁵ _⌊Trust Yahweh_⌋* with all your heart; do not lean toward your own understanding. ⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will straighten your paths.

²³ I know, O Yahweh, that to the human is not his own way, nor to a person is the walking and the directing of his own step.

¹⁵ When David realized that Saul had gone out to seek his life, David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh.

²³ Look, find out all of the hiding places where he hides. Then return to me _⌊with dependable information_⌋,* and I will go with you. And then if he is there in the land, then I will seek him among all the thousands of Judah."

In Yahweh I have taken refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee to your mountain like a bird"?

⁵ "If you run with foot soldiers and they have made you weary, then how will you compete with horses? If you have fallen in _⌊a peaceful land_⌋,* then how will you do in the thickets of the Jordan?

⁷ Then you will rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city, for Yahweh your God will give it into your hand.

³⁹ And Gideon said to God, "_⌊Do not let your anger burn_⌋* against me; let me speak once more. Please let me test once more with the fleece; let the fleece be dry, and let there be dew on the ground."

⁷ And Yahweh said to Gideon, "I will deliver you with the three hundred men lapping up the water; I will give Midian into your hand, so let the other troops go, each to his own place.

⁶ And Saul inquired of Yahweh, but Yahweh did not answer him, not by dreams or by the Urim* or by the prophets.

¹⁸ And since this is too trivial in the eyes of Yahweh, he will also give Moab into your hand,

³⁰ And you will put the Urim and the Thummim on the breast piece of judgment, and they will be on the heart of Aaron when he comes before Yahweh, and Aaron will bear the judgment of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on his heart before Yahweh continually. ³¹ "And you will make the robe of the ephod totally of blue yarn.

³ Now Ahijah, the son of Ahitub (the brother of Ichabod), the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli the priest of Yahweh at Shiloh, was carrying an ephod. The troops did not know that Jonathan had gone.

¹⁸ Then Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring near the ark of God"* (for the ark of God was _⌊at that time_⌋* with the _⌊Israelites_⌋).*

³⁶ Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and let us plunder them until the morning light, and let us not leave alive a man among them." So they said, "Do all that is good in your eyes." But the priest said, "Let us draw near to God here." ³⁷ So Saul inquired of God, "Should I go down after the Philistines? Will you give them into the hand of Israel?" But he did not answer him on that day.

²⁰ But, one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, whose name was Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.

³ And Pharaoh will say of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'They are wandering around in the land. The desert has closed in on them.'

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide plunder, my desire will be full of them, I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.'

² The Gazites were told, "Samson has come here," so they surrounded the place and lay in ambush for him all night at the city gate. They kept silent all night, saying, "We will wait until the morning light, and then we will kill him." ³ But Samson lay until the middle of the night; he got up in the middle of the night and took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two door posts, tore them loose with the bar, put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the hill that is _⌊in front of_⌋* Hebron.

¹⁴ David remained in the wilderness, in the strongholds, and in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him _⌊continually_⌋,* but God did not give him into his hand.

⁴ And David's men said to him, "Look, today is the day about which Yahweh said to you, 'See, I am giving your enemy* into your hand, and you can do to him _⌊whatever seems good to you_⌋.'"* So David got up and secretly cut the hem of Saul's robe. ⁵ _⌊And then_⌋* afterward David _⌊felt guilty_⌋,* because he had cut _⌊the hem of Saul's robe_⌋.* ⁶ He said to his men, "Far be it from me in* Yahweh, that I do this thing to my lord, to Yahweh's anointed one, by stretching out my hand against him! For he is the anointed one of Yahweh."

⁸ Then Abishai said to David, "God has handed over your enemy into your hand today! So then, _⌊please let me pin him to the ground with the spear_⌋* _⌊one time_⌋,* and _⌊I will not strike him twice_⌋."* ⁹ But David said to Abishai, "Do not destroy* him! For who has stretched out his hand against Yahweh's anointed one and remained blameless?"

⁵ that the rejoicing of the wicked is _⌊short_⌋,* and the joy of the godless _⌊lasts only a moment_⌋?*

¹⁰ For my enemies talk concerning me, and those who watch for my life conspire together, ¹¹ saying, "His God has abandoned him. Pursue and seize him, because there is no deliverer."

⁴³ For days will come upon you and your enemies will put up an embankment* against you, and will surround you and press you hard from all directions. ⁴⁴ And they will raze you to the ground, you and your children within you, and will not leave a stone upon a stone within you, _⌊because_⌋* you did not recognize the time of your visitation."

⁷ Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Please bring the ephod here for me." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

¹⁸ Moreover, Yahweh let it be made known to me, and I knew. Then you showed me their deeds. ¹⁹ And I was like a gentle ram-lamb that is brought to slaughter, and I did not know that they planned plans against me, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will no longer be remembered."

³ 'Call to me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great things and inaccessible things that you have not known.'

²⁴ But their plot became known to Saul, and they were also watching the gates both day and night so that they could do away with him.

⁶ they became aware of it* and* fled to the Lycaonian cities—Lystra and Derbe and the surrounding region.

¹⁶ But when* the son of Paul's sister heard about the ambush, he came and entered into the barracks* and* reported it* to Paul. ¹⁷ So Paul called one of the centurions and* said, "Bring this young man to the military tribune, because he has something to report to him." ¹⁸ So he took him and* brought him* to the military tribune and said, "The prisoner Paul called me and* asked me* to bring this young man to you because he* has something to tell you."

²⁴ If perhaps there are fifty righteous in the midst of the city, will you also sweep them away and not forgive the place on account of the fifty righteous in her midst?

¹⁹ And _⌊he put to the sword_⌋* Nob, the city of the priests, from man to woman, from child to infant, and ox and donkey and sheep;* all _⌊to the sword_⌋.*

⁸ Saul then summoned all of the army for the battle, to go down to Keilah to lay a siege against David and his men.

⁶ But _⌊he considered it beneath him_⌋* to lay hands on Mordecai only, for they told him of Mordecai's people, and Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, who were in the kingdom of Ahasuerus.

¹⁵ Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

¹⁵ Their feet are swift to shed blood; ¹⁶ destruction and distress are in their paths,

¹⁵ And call me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."

⁷ "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened for you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

⁷ When it was told to Saul that David had gone to Keilah, Saul said, "God _⌊has given him_⌋* into my hand, because he has shut himself in by going into a city with _⌊two barred gates_⌋.*

²⁰ So then, O king, _⌊whenever you want_⌋* to come down, come down, and it will be for us to deliver him into the hand of the king."

⁸ And you have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy. You have set my feet in a broad place.

Only for God my soul waits in silence. From him is my salvation.

⁸ It is better to take refuge in Yahweh than to trust in humans.*

¹⁴ There was a small city with few people in it. A great king came and besieged it, building great siege works against it. ¹⁵ Now, a poor wise man was found in it, and he delivered the city by his wisdom.

¹⁵ Ah! Those who make a plan deep, to hide it from Yahweh, and their deeds are* in a dark place. And they say, "Who sees us? And who knows us?"

¹³ And no creature is hidden in the sight of him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom _⌊we must give our account_⌋*.

² Every man in distress and every man who had a creditor and every embittered man gathered to him, and he became _⌊their commander_⌋.* Now there were about four hundred men with him.

¹³ Then David said to his men, "Each man strap on his sword!" So each one strapped on his sword, and David also strapped on his sword. About four hundred men went up after David, while two hundred remained with the baggage.

⁹ So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and they came to the Wadi* Besor, but the rest remained. ¹⁰ David pursued, he and four hundred men; but two hundred men stayed because they were too exhausted to pass over the Wadi Besor.

²⁰ Yesterday when you came and _⌊today_⌋,* I have caused you to wander by going with us. Now I am going to where I am going; return and let your brothers return. May loyal love and faithfulness be with you."

¹ Then David _⌊thought to himself_⌋,* "Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul! There is nothing better for me but that I must certainly escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will desist from searching for me further in all of the territories of Israel, and so I will escape from his hand."

In Yahweh I have taken refuge; how can you say to my soul, "Flee to your mountain like a bird"? ² For look: The wicked _⌊string the bow_⌋.* They have fitted their arrow to the string, to shoot from the darkness at the upright of heart. ³ When the foundations are destroyed what can the righteous do?*

⁷ You are my hiding place; from trouble you preserve me. With cries of deliverance you surround me. Selah

³² The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to kill him. ³³ Yahweh will not abandon him into his hand, and he will not let him be condemned when he is judged.

³ For foreigners have risen against me, and ruthless men seek my life. They have not set God before them. Selah ⁴ See, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who sustain my life.*

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed blood,

¹⁶ For they will not sleep if they have not done wrong, and they are robbed of their sleep if they do not cause stumbling.

³⁰ There is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel to oppose Yahweh.

²⁶ And the king commanded Jerahmeel, the son of the king, and Seraiah, the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah, the son of Abdeel, to arrest Baruch the secretary and Jeremiah the prophet, but Yahweh hid them.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹¹ persecutions, and sufferings that happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra, what sort of persecutions I endured, and the Lord delivered me from all of them.

¹⁷ But the Lord helped me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled and all the Gentiles might hear, and he rescued me from the lion's mouth. ¹⁸ The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will save me for his heavenly kingdom, to whom be the glory _⌊forever and ever_⌋*. Amen.

²⁸ Now instruct Joshua and support him and encourage him because he himself* will cross over before this people and enable them to inherit the land that you will see.'

⁶ And _⌊David was in a very precarious situation_⌋,* for the people spoke of stoning him, for the souls of all the people were bitter, each one over his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.

¹⁸ I told them of the good hand of my God that was upon me and surely the words of the king that were spoken to me. And they said, "Let us arise and build!" And they strengthened their hands for this good work.

³ Look, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened weak hands. ⁴ Your words have raised up the one who stumbles, and you have strengthened knees giving way.

⁵ I could* encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips would* ease the pain.

⁹ Perfume and incense will gladden a heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend is _⌊personal advice_⌋.*

¹⁷ As iron sharpens* iron, so _⌊one man sharpens another_⌋.*

⁹ Two are better than the one, for they enjoy a better reward for their toil. ¹⁰ For if one falls, his companion may help him up. But pity the one who falls and there is _⌊no one_⌋* to help him up. ¹¹ Also if two lie together, _⌊they can keep each other warm_⌋.* But how can one person be warm? ¹² _⌊Although an assailant may overpower one person, two may withstand him_⌋.* A threefold cord _⌊is not easily broken_⌋!*

³ Strengthen the weak hands and make the staggering knees firm. ⁴ Say to those who are hasty of heart,
"Be strong; you must not fear! Look! your God will come with vengeance, with _⌊divine retribution_⌋.* He _⌊is the one who_⌋* will come and save you."

²² Because you disheartened the heart of the righteous by deception, and I have not* caused him pain, and strengthened the hands of the wicked so that he did not turn* from his wicked way to save his life.

³² but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. And you, when* once you have turned back,* strengthen your brothers."

⁴³ And an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength.

¹ You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus,

¹² Therefore strengthen your slackened hands and your weakened knees, ¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame will not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

³¹ For _⌊as long as_⌋* the son of Jesse is alive on the earth, you and your kingdom will not be established! So then, send and bring him to me, for _⌊he will surely die_⌋!"*

²⁰ So now then, look, I know that you will certainly be king and the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.

¹¹ to set the lowly on high, and those mourning are lifted to safety. ¹² He is frustrating the devices of the crafty, and their hands do not achieve success. ¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed. ¹⁴ In the daytime they meet with darkness, and they grope at noon* as in the night. ¹⁵ And* he saves from the sword of* their mouth, _⌊even_⌋* the poor from the hand of the strong.

¹ Of David.*
Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me to eat my flesh— my adversaries and my enemies who drew near to me— they themselves stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war arise against me, even in this I will remain confident.

God is our refuge and strength, a very sufficient help in troubles. ² Therefore we will not fear though the earth change, and though the mountains totter into the _⌊midst_⌋* of the sea,

¹ One who lives in the secret place* of the Most High will lodge in the shadow of Shaddai.* ² I will say to Yahweh, "You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust."

²⁶ In the fear of Yahweh, there is confidence of strength, and for his children, there will be refuge.

²¹ Many plans are in the heart* of a man, but the purpose of Yahweh will be established.

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.

¹⁷ Every weapon formed against you shall not succeed, and you shall declare guilty every tongue that rises against you for judgment. This is the inheritance of the servants of Yahweh, and their _⌊legal right_⌋* from me,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

³² "Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.

³⁹ But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them, lest you even be found fighting against God." So they were persuaded by him.

¹⁶ And when we entered into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who was guarding him.

²⁴ whenever I travel to Spain. For I hope while I* am passing through to see you and to be sent on my way by you, whenever I have first enjoyed your company for a while.

⁶ So then, we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.* What will man do to me?"*

³ Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul.

¹² Then Jonathan said to David, "Yahweh the God of Israel is my witness* that I will question my father _⌊by this time the day after tomorrow_⌋.* And look, _⌊if he is well disposed toward you_⌋,* will I not send word to you and _⌊disclose it to you_⌋?* ¹³ _⌊So may Yahweh punish Jonathan and more_⌋* if _⌊my father decides to do you harm_⌋* and if _⌊I fail to disclose it to you_⌋* and send word to you that you can go safely. And may Yahweh be with you, as he has been with my father. ¹⁴ And not while I am still alive, will you not show the loyal love of Yahweh with me, that I may not die?* ¹⁵ And do not cut off your loyal love from _⌊my family_⌋* forever, not even when Yahweh _⌊exterminates_⌋* each of the enemies of David from the face of the earth." ¹⁶ So Jonathan _⌊made a covenant_⌋* with the house of David, saying, "May Yahweh _⌊call the enemies of David to account_⌋."* ¹⁷ And Jonathan again made David swear an oath, because he loved him; for with the love of his soul he loved him.

⁴² Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, because we have sworn, the two of us, an oath in the name of Yahweh, saying, "Yahweh will be between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring forever."* Then he got up and left, and Jonathan went into the city.

¹ Then David said, "Is there still anyone who is left for the house of Saul that I may show loyal love to him for the sake of Jonathan?"

⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the sworn oath of Yahweh which was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

⁷ Then Saul said to the servants who were standing around him, "Please listen, _⌊Benjaminites_⌋!* Will the son of Jesse give you all fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds? ⁸ For all of you have conspired against me, and _⌊no one discloses to me_⌋* the _⌊making_⌋* of an agreement between my son and the son of Jesse! None of you have had sympathy for me or _⌊disclosed to me_⌋* that _⌊my son commissioned my servant against me to ambush me_⌋* as has been done this day!"

¹ The Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding on the hill of Hakilah opposite Jeshimon?"

³ Now Saul was on the hill of Hakilah, which is opposite Jeshimon by the road, but David was staying in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had come to the wilderness after him,

¹ For the music director, with stringed instruments. A maskil of David, when the Ziphites went and said to Saul, "Is not David hiding himself among us?"*
O God, by your name save me, and by your power vindicate me. ² O God, hear my prayer; heed the words of my mouth. ³ For foreigners have risen against me, and ruthless men seek my life. They have not set God before them. Selah ⁴ See, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who sustain my life.* ⁵ He will repay* my enemies for their* evil; in your faithfulness destroy them. ⁶ I will freely sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O Yahweh, because it is good. ⁷ Because he has delivered me from all trouble, and my eye has looked with satisfaction on my enemies.

¹² A ruler listening to a word of falsehood, all his officials are wicked.

⁶ And if a* Levite comes from one of your _⌊towns_⌋* from _⌊anywhere in Israel_⌋* where he is residing, _⌊he may come whenever he desires_⌋,* to the place that Yahweh will choose,

¹² Then David said, "Will the rulers of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And Yahweh said, "They will deliver you."

²¹ And Abner said to David, "Let me get up and go and gather all of Israel to my lord the king, that they may _⌊make a covenant_⌋* with you so you can reign over all which your soul desires." So David dismissed Abner, and he left in peace.

¹¹ The men of his city and the elders and nobles who were living in his city did according to what Jezebel had sent to them, as was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They called a fast, and they seated Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ Then the two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* came, sat opposite him, and the _⌊scoundrels_⌋* witnessed against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king," so they brought him outside of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died. ¹⁴ They sent to Jezebel saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and he is dead."

⁵ So whoever was over the house, and whoever was over the city, and the elders and the guardians sent to Jehu, saying, "We are your servants; all that you say to us, we shall do. We shall not make anyone a king. Do what is good in your eyes." ⁶ Then he wrote to them a second letter, saying, "If you are for me, and you are listening to my voice, take the heads of the men of the sons of your master and come to me at this time tomorrow at Jezreel." Now the sons of the king, seventy men, were with the leaders of the city who were raising them. ⁷ When the letter came to them, they took the sons of the king, and they killed seventy men. Then they put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.

³ For foreigners have risen against me, and ruthless men seek my life. They have not set God before them. Selah

¹⁰ The wicked* sees it and is vexed. He gnashes his teeth and _⌊becomes weak_⌋.* The desire of the wicked* perishes.

²³ The desire of the righteous is only good, but the expectation of the wicked, wrath.

²⁶ Many are those who seek the _⌊favor_⌋* of a ruler, but from Yahweh _⌊one obtains justice_⌋.*

² And he said to his mother, "The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, and about which you also pronounced a curse _⌊in my hearing_⌋,* are with me; I took it." And his mother said, "Blessed be my son by Yahweh."

⁸ For all of you have conspired against me, and _⌊no one discloses to me_⌋* the _⌊making_⌋* of an agreement between my son and the son of Jesse! None of you have had sympathy for me or _⌊disclosed to me_⌋* that _⌊my son commissioned my servant against me to ambush me_⌋* as has been done this day!"

³ for the wicked boasts about the desire of his _⌊heart_⌋,* and the one greedy for gain curses and treats Yahweh with contempt.

⁵ Hear the word of Yahweh, you who are frightened at his word:
Your brothers who hate you, who exclude you for my name's sake have said, "Let Yahweh be honored so that* we may see your joy!" But* they themselves shall be ashamed.

¹¹ Its rulers judge for a bribe; its priests teach for a price; its prophets practice divination for money. But they lean on Yahweh, saying, "Is not Yahweh in our midst? Disaster will not come upon us."

¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed.

³⁶ And when it rested he would say, "Return, Yahweh, to the countless thousands of Israel."

¹¹ I give the advice that all of Israel from Dan to Beersheba should be completely gathered to you, as the sand which is on the seashore for abundance, with _⌊you personally_⌋* going into the battle. ¹² Then we will come to him in one of the places where he may be found, and we shall come upon him as the dew falls on the ground. He and all the men who are with him will not survive, not even one! ¹³ Even if he withdraws to a city, all Israel will bring up ropes to that city, and they will drag him away to the valley until there is not even a pebble to be found."

¹⁰ _⌊As Yahweh your God lives_⌋,* surely there is not a nation or a kingdom to which my lord has not sent me to seek you. If they would say, 'He is not here,' then he would make the kingdom or the nation swear that it could not find you.

² But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you one will go out for me, to be ruler in Israel; and his origins are from of old, from ancient days.

¹ Now after two days it was the Passover and the feast of Unleavened Bread, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how, after* arresting him by stealth, they could kill him.*

¹⁰ And Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. ¹¹ And when* they heard this,* they were delighted, and promised to give him money. And he began seeking* how he could betray him conveniently.

¹² So Michal lowered David through the window, and he went and fled and escaped.

³⁸ Then Jonathan called out after the boy, "Quick, hurry, do not linger!" And Jonathan's servant collected the arrows and came to his master.

¹⁴ Then David said to all his servants who were with him in Jerusalem, "Get up and let us flee, for there will be no escape for us from Absalom! Hurry to go, otherwise he will come quickly and overtake us! And he will bring disaster on us and evil! He will attack the city with the edge of the sword!"

²¹ After they left, they came up from the well and went and told King David. They said to David, "Set out and cross over the water quickly, for thus Ahithophel has advised against you." ²² So David and all the people who were with him set out, and they crossed over the Jordan until morning light until _⌊there was no one_⌋* missing who had not crossed over the Jordan.

¹² O our God, will you not judge them, for there is no power in us before this great multitude that is coming against us. Now we do not know what we shall do, for our eyes are upon you."

⁹ from the _⌊presence_⌋* of the wicked who destroy me, those enemies against my life, they that surround me.

¹¹ Now they surround us at our every step. They _⌊intend_⌋* _⌊to pin_⌋* me to the ground.

¹² Many bulls have encircled me; mighty bulls of Bashan have surrounded me.

¹⁶ Because dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evildoers has encircled me. Like the lion* they are at my hands and my feet.

²² As for me, I said in my alarm, "I am cut off from before your eyes." However you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to you for help.

¹¹ They surrounded me; yes, they surrounded me. In the name of Yahweh I opposed them indeed. ¹² They surrounded me like bees; they were extinguished like a fire of thorns. In the name of Yahweh I opposed them indeed. ¹³ You pushed me hard* to make me fall, but Yahweh helped me.

Rescue me, O Yahweh, from evil men.* Preserve me from violent men, ² who plan evil things in their heart. They stir up wars continually. ³ They sharpen their tongue as sharp as a snake's; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah ⁴ Protect me, O Yahweh, from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from violent men, who have planned to _⌊make me stumble_⌋.* ⁵ The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords. They have spread out a net along the _⌊side_⌋* of the path. ⁹ And they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the fortified camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and consumed them.

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place "Yahweh _⌊will provide_⌋,"* _⌊for which reason_⌋* it is said today, "on the mountain of Yahweh _⌊it shall be provided_⌋."*

³⁶ For Yahweh will judge on behalf of his people, and concerning his servants; he will change his mind when he sees that their power has disappeared, and there is no one left, confined* or free.*

⁹ He heard about Tirhakah, the king of Cush, saying, "Look, he has set out to fight with you," so he again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

¹³ Then the Philistines _⌊carried out another raid_⌋* in the valley.

³ The ropes of death encircled me, and the distresses of Sheol found me. I found trouble and grief.

¹⁶ And the earth came to the aid of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river that the dragon had spouted out of his mouth.

⁷ Then* they turned back and came to En-Mishpat (that is, Kadesh). And they defeated the whole territory of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who were living in Hazazon-Tamar.

¹ When Saul returned from pursuing the Philistines, they told him, "Look, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi."

² And they came and reported it to Jehoshaphat, saying, "A great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram,* is coming against you. Now behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar" (that is, En Gedi).

¹⁴ My beloved is to me a cluster of blossoms of henna in the vineyards of En Gedi.

¹⁰ And then fishers* from En Gedi and on up to En Eglaim will stand beside it, a sea-girt drying yard for nets; their fish for the dragnets will be _⌊of every kind_⌋,* like the fish of the great sea,* and very many.
