⁷ "And I also withheld the rain from you when there were still three months to the harvest. And I would send rain on one city and send no rain on another city. One tract of land will be rained on, and the tract of land _⌊on which it does not rain_⌋* will dry up.

²² But on that day I will distinguish* the land of Goshen, where my people are staying, by there not being flies there, so that you will know that I am Yahweh in the midst of the land.

⁴ But Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, and not a thing will die from all that belongs to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"*

²⁶ Only in the land of Goshen, where the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were, there was no hail.

²³ No one could see his brother, and _⌊because of it no one could move from where they were_⌋* for three days, but there was light for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in their dwellings.

¹⁸ " 'And if in spite of these things you do not listen to me, then* I will continue to discipline you seven times for your sins. ¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your strength; and I will make your heaven like iron* and your land like copper. ²⁰ And your strength shall be consumed _⌊in vain_⌋;* and your land shall not give its produce, and the land's trees shall not give their fruit. ²¹ " 'And if you go against me in hostility and you are not willing to listen to me, then* I will add a plague onto you seven times according to your sins.

²³ " 'And if you do not accept correction from* me through these things, but* you go against me in hostility, ²⁴ then* I myself* will also go against you in hostility, and I myself* also will strike you seven times for your sins.

²⁷ " 'And if through this you do not listen to me and you go against me in hostility, ²⁸ then* I will go against you in hostile anger, and also* I myself* will discipline you seven times for your sins.

¹⁷ And then _⌊the anger of Yahweh will be kindled against you_⌋,* and he will shut up the heavens,* and there shall not be rain, and so the ground will not give its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land that Yahweh is giving to you.

²³ And your heavens that are over your heads shall be like bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be like iron. ²⁴ Yahweh will change the rain of your land to fine dust and to sand; from the heaven it shall come down upon you _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋.*

³⁷ I will place a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and all of the ground is dry, I will know that you will deliver Israel by my hand, just as you have said." ³⁸ And it was so. He arose early the next day and squeezed the fleece, and he wrung out dew from the fleece, a full drinking bowl of water. ³⁹ And Gideon said to God, "_⌊Do not let your anger burn_⌋* against me; let me speak once more. Please let me test once more with the fleece; let the fleece be dry, and let there be dew on the ground." ⁴⁰ And God did so that night; only the fleece was dry, and dew was on all the ground.

³⁵ When you shut up the heavens so there is no rain because they have sinned against you, then they pray to this place and they confess your name and they return from their sin because you punished them, ³⁶ then you shall hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants and your people Israel, for you will teach them the good way in which they should go, and you will give rain upon your land which you have given to your people as an inheritance.

¹³ When I hold back the heavens so that there is not rain, and when I command the locust to devour the earth, and if I send disease among my people, ¹⁴ then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and will pray and will seek my face and will turn from their evil ways, then I myself shall hear from the heavens and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

⁶ And I will make it a wasteland; it shall not be pruned and hoed, and it shall be overgrown with briers* and thornbushes.* And concerning the clouds, I will command _⌊them not to send_⌋* rain down upon it.

³ Therefore rain showers have been withheld, and the spring rain has not come. Yet _⌊you have_⌋* the forehead of a woman prostitute, you refuse to be ashamed.

²⁴ And they do not say in their hearts, 'Let us fear please Yahweh our God, the one who gives the autumn rain* and the spring rain* in its season, _⌊the set times of the harvest_⌋* he keeps for us.' ²⁵ Your iniquities have disturbed these, and your sins have kept away the good from you.

⁴ Because of the ground, which is cracked because there was no rain on the ground. The farmers are ashamed, they cover their heads.*

²² Are there any among the idols of the nation who cause rain to pour? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not you, O Yahweh our God? Therefore, we hope in you, for you do all these things.

¹⁰ The field is destroyed; the earth mourns because the grain is destroyed, the new wine dries up, the olive oil languishes. ¹¹ Be ashamed, farmers; Wail, vinedressers, over the wheat and over the barley, because the harvest of the field is ruined. ¹² The vine withers and the fig tree droops. The pomegranate tree, and also the palm tree, the apple tree —all the trees of the field—are dried up. Indeed, joy is dried up among the sons of men. ¹³ Gird yourselves and lament, O priests! Wail, O ministers of the altar! Come spend the night in sackcloth, O ministers of my God, because offering and libation are withheld from the house of your God. ¹⁴ Solemnize a fast! Call an assembly! Gather the elders, all of the inhabitants of the land in the house of Yahweh your God, and cry out to Yahweh. ¹⁵ Ah! For the day! For the day of Yahweh is near. It will come like destruction from Shaddai.* ¹⁶ Is not food cut off before our eyes, from the house of our God, joy and gladness? ¹⁷ The seeds shrivel under their clods; the storehouses are desolate. The grain storage places are destroyed because grain has dried out. ¹⁸ How the beasts* groan; the herds of cattle wander around because there is no pasture for them; the flocks of sheep are in distress.

²³ Be glad, O children of Zion, be glad and rejoice in Yahweh your God, because he has given for you the autumn rains for your righteousness,* and he has _⌊poured down_⌋* for you rainwater, the autumn and spring rains, as before.

¹⁰ Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld the dew and the earth has withheld its produce. ¹¹ I have called for a drought on the land and the hills,* on the grain, the new wine, the olive oil, on what the soil produces, on human beings and wild animals,* and on _⌊all their labor_⌋.'"*

¹⁷ _⌊And then_⌋* whoever of the clans of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, it will not rain on them.

³⁵ Do you not say, 'There are yet four months and the harvest comes'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, that they are white for harvest already.*

⁷ For who concedes you superiority? And what do you have that you did not receive? But if indeed you received it, why do you boast as if you* did not receive it?

¹⁷ Elijah was a human being* with the same nature as us, and _⌊he prayed fervently_⌋* for it not to rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

⁶ These have the authority to shut the sky, so that _⌊it does not rain_⌋* during the days of their prophecy. And they have authority over the waters, to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with every plague as often as they wish.
