How can Jacob stand, because he is small?" ³ Yahweh relented concerning this. "It will not be," said Yahweh. ⁴ This is what my Lord Yahweh showed me, and look, my Lord Yahweh was going to call for a legal case with fire, and it devoured the great deep and it ate up the plots of ground. ⁵ Then I said, "O Lord Yahweh, please stop! How can Jacob stand, because he is small?" ⁶ Yahweh also relented concerning this. "This also will not be," said my Lord Yahweh. ⁷ This is what he showed me: Behold, my Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plummet, and a plummet was in his hand. ⁸ And Yahweh said to me, "What do you see?" And I said, "A plummet." And my Lord said, "Look, I am going to set a plummet in the midst of my people, Israel. I will not pass them by again. ⁹ The high places of Isaac shall become desolate and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste. And I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword." ¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam the king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to endure all of his words. ¹¹ For this Amos has said, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will certainly go into exile away from his land.'" ¹² And Amaziah said to Amos, "O seer, go, flee to the land of Judah and earn food there and prophesy there!" ¹³ But do not prophesy again at Bethel, because this is a sanctuary of a king and this is a temple of a kingdom." ¹⁴ And Amos answered and said to Amaziah, "I am not a prophet and I am not a son of a prophet, but I am a herdsman and I am one taking care of sycamore trees. ¹⁵ And Yahweh took me from following behind the sheep and goats and Yahweh said to me, "Go, prophesy to my people Israel! ¹⁶ And so then, hear the word of Yahweh! You are saying, 'You must not prophesy against Israel and you must not preach against the house of Isaac!' ¹⁷ Therefore, thus says Yahweh, 'Your wife will become a prostitute in the city and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword and your land will be divided with a line, and you* will die in an unclean land and Israel will surely go into exile from this land.'"

¹² And Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt with the locusts so that they may come up over the land of Egypt, and let them eat all the vegetation of the land, all that the hail left behind." ¹³ And Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh drove an east wind into the land all that day and all night. The morning came, and the east wind had brought the locusts. ¹⁴ And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and they settled in all the territory of Egypt, very _⌊severe_⌋.* Before it there were not locusts like them, nor will there be after it. ¹⁵ And they covered the surface of all the land, and the land was dark with them, and they ate all the vegetation of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left, and no green was left in the trees nor in the vegetation of the field in all the land of Egypt. ¹⁶ And Pharaoh hurried to call Moses and Aaron, and he said, "I have sinned against Yahweh your God and against you.

⁴ And your spoil is gathered, as the gathering of the locust, as a swarm of locusts storming on it.

¹¹ And the word of Yahweh came to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* "What are you seeing, Jeremiah?" And I said, "I am seeing a branch of an almond tree." ¹² Then Yahweh said to me, "You did well to see, for I am watching over my word to perform it." ¹³ And the word of Yahweh came to me a second time, _⌊saying_⌋,* "What are you seeing?" And I said, "I am seeing a _⌊boiling_⌋* pot, and its face is from the face of the north." ¹⁴ Then Yahweh said to me, "From the north disaster will be unleashed* on all the inhabitants of the land. ¹⁵ For, look, I am calling to all the clans* of the kingdoms of the north," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and they will come and set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its surrounding walls, and against all the cities of Judah. ¹⁶ And I will pass* my judgments on them because of all their wickedness in that they have forsaken me, and they made sacrifices to other gods, and they bowed in worship to the works of their hands.

¹ Yahweh showed me, and look, there were two baskets of figs placed _⌊before_⌋* the temple of Yahweh—after Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had deported Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, with the officials of Judah, and the craftsmen, and the smiths,* from Jerusalem and had brought them to Babylon.

²⁵ And I spoke to the exiles* all of the words of Yahweh that he had shown me.

⁴ What the cutting locust left, the swarming locust has eaten. What the swarming locust left, the hopping locust has eaten. And what the hopping locust left, the destroying locust has eaten.

²⁵ I will repay you the years that the locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my mighty troops that I sent against you.

⁹ "I struck you with blight and with mildew. Frequently the cutting locust devoured your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees, yet you did not return to me," is the declaration of Yahweh.

⁴ This is what my Lord Yahweh showed me, and look, my Lord Yahweh was going to call for a legal case with fire, and it devoured the great deep and it ate up the plots of ground.

⁷ This is what he showed me: Behold, my Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plummet, and a plummet was in his hand.

¹ My Lord Yahweh showed me this, and there was a basket of summer fruit.

¹⁵ There fire will consume you; the sword will cut you off. It will consume you like the locust. ¹⁶ You have increased your merchants more than the stars of heaven; like the locust they will shed their skin and fly away. ¹⁷ Your officials are like locusts; your commanders are like a swarm of locusts. They encamp on the walls on a cold day; when the sun rises, they fly away— no one knows where they have gone.

²⁰ Then Yahweh showed me four skilled craftsmen,

¹⁵ And they covered the surface of all the land, and the land was dark with them, and they ate all the vegetation of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left, and no green was left in the trees nor in the vegetation of the field in all the land of Egypt.

¹¹ And Moses _⌊implored Yahweh_⌋* his God, and he said, "Why, Yahweh, should _⌊your anger blaze_⌋* against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians _⌊say_⌋*, 'With evil intent he brought them out to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth'?* Turn from _⌊your fierce anger_⌋* and relent concerning the disaster for your people.

⁹ And he said, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, Lord, let my Lord, please, go among us—indeed it is a stiff-necked people—and forgive our iniquity and our sin and _⌊take us as your possession_⌋."*

¹⁷ But now, please, let the power of my Lord be great, just has you spoke, ¹⁸ 'Yahweh is _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and great of loyal love, _⌊forgiving_⌋* sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ Please forgive the sin of this people according to the greatness of your loyal love, just as you _⌊forgave_⌋* this people, from Egypt until now."

Save, O Yahweh, for the pious have ceased to be; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of humankind.

²⁴ Why do you hide your face? Have you forgotten our misery and our oppression? ²⁵ For our soul is bowed down to the dust. Our _⌊body_⌋* clings to the ground. ²⁶ Rise up! Be a help for us, and redeem us for the sake of your loyal love.

⁴ Maybe Yahweh your God heard the words of Rabshakeh whom the king of Assyria, his master, has sent to taunt the living God, and he will rebuke the words that Yahweh your God hears. And you must lift up a prayer for the benefit of the remnant that is found.'"

¹⁹ Two things here have happened to you—who will _⌊show sympathy_⌋* for you?— devastation and destruction, famine and sword—who will comfort you?

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O Yahweh, act for the sake of your name. Yes, our apostasies are many; we have sinned against you.

²⁰ We know, O Yahweh, our wickedness, the iniquity of our ancestors,* for we have sinned against you. ²¹ You must not spurn us* for the sake of your name, you must not dishonor _⌊your glorious throne_⌋.* Remember us!* You must not break your covenant with us.

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, "May our plea please fall _⌊before you_⌋,* and pray for us to Yahweh your God, for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes are seeing us.

⁸ _⌊And then_⌋* _⌊as they were striking_⌋,* and I was left behind, I fell on my face, and I cried out, and I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! "Will you be destroying all of the remnant of Israel _⌊while you pour out your rage_⌋* on Jerusalem?"

¹³ And it happened that _⌊as I was prophesying_⌋,* Pelatiahu the son of Benaiahu died! And I fell on my face, and I cried with a loud voice, and I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, you are making a complete destruction of the remnant of Israel!"

¹⁹ Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, pay heed and act! You must not delay _⌊for your sake_⌋,* my God; because _⌊your city and your people are called by your name_⌋."*

⁵ Then I said, "O Lord Yahweh, please stop! How can Jacob stand, because he is small?"

¹⁰ For whoever has despised the day of small things will rejoice and will see the _⌊plumb line_⌋* in the hand of Zerubbabel."
These seven are the eyes of Yahweh which are ranging _⌊throughout the whole earth_⌋.*

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋*. ¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much.

⁴ And it was told to them that they should not damage the grass of the earth or any green plant or any tree, except those people who do not have the seal of God on their* foreheads.

³⁶ For Yahweh will judge on behalf of his people, and concerning his servants; he will change his mind when he sees that their power has disappeared, and there is no one left, confined* or free.*

¹⁵ And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he was about to destroy it, Yahweh saw and was grieved on account of the calamity. Then he said to the angel, the destroyer, "It is enough; slacken your hand." And the angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant with them, and relented based on the abundance of his loyal love.

¹⁹ Did Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and all Judah actually put him to death? Was he not in fear of Yahweh? And he entreated the face of Yahweh, and Yahweh relented of the disaster that he had spoken against them. But we are about to do great disaster to ourselves."

⁸ How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart is disturbed* within me; _⌊all_⌋* my compassions are aroused.

¹⁴ Who knows whether he will turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, an offering and a libation, for Yahweh your God?

⁶ Yahweh also relented concerning this. "This also will not be," said my Lord Yahweh.

¹⁰ And God saw their deeds—that they turned from their evil ways—and God changed his mind about the evil that he had said he would bring upon them, and he did not do it.*

¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much.

²³ And Moses stretched out his staff to the heavens, and Yahweh gave thunder* and hail, and fire went to the earth, and Yahweh caused hail to rain on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ And there was hail, and fire was flashing back and forth in the midst of the very severe hail, the like of which was not in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

² So* fire went out _⌊from before_⌋* Yahweh, and it consumed them so that* they died _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

³⁵ And fire went out from Yahweh, and it consumed the two hundred and fifty men presenting the incense.

²² For a fire was kindled* by my anger, and it burned _⌊up to the depths of Sheol_⌋,* and it devoured the earth and its produce, and it set afire the foundation of the mountains.

⁴ _⌊I have no wrath_⌋.* Whatever gives me thorns and briers, I will step forth against in battle. I will set it on fire altogether.

¹⁵ For look! Yahweh will come in fire, and his chariots like the storm wind, to _⌊give back_⌋* his anger in wrath, and his rebuke in flames of fire. ¹⁶ For Yahweh enters into judgment on all flesh with fire and his sword, and _⌊those slain by_⌋* Yahweh shall be many.

⁴ Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh, and remove the foreskins of your hearts,* men* of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest my wrath goes forth like the fire and burns, and there is no one who extinguishes it,* because of the evil of your deeds."

¹² O house of David, thus says Yahweh,
"Execute judgment in the morning, justice, and deliver the one who has been seized from the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath goes forth like the fire and it burns, and there is no one who quenches it* because of the evil of your deeds.

³⁰ And I will _⌊set_⌋* wonders in the heavens, and on earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke.

⁴ So I will send fire against Hazael's house and it will consume the citadel fortresses of Ben-Hadad.

⁷ So I will send a fire against the wall of Gaza and it will devour its citadel fortresses.

¹¹ "I overthrew some of you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a stick snatched from the fire, and yet you did not return to me," is the declaration of Yahweh.

⁶ Seek Yahweh so that you may live, so that he will not break out like a fire against the house of Joseph! And it will devour, _⌊with none to quench_⌋* it for Bethel.

⁴ The mountains will melt under him and the valleys will burst open, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope.

⁶ His indignation—who can stand before it? Who can endure _⌊his fierce anger_⌋?* His wrath is poured out like fire; rocks are shattered before* him. ⁷ And concerning the angels he says,
"The one who makes his angels winds, and his servants a flame of fire,"*

¹ After these things I looked, and behold, an open door in heaven, and the former voice that I had heard like a trumpet speaking with me was saying, "Come up here and I will show you the things which must take place after these things."

⁴ Restore us, O God of our salvation, and annul your vexation with us.

⁹ If Yahweh of hosts had not left us survivors,* we would have been as few as Sodom, we would have become like Gomorrah.

²⁵ My indignation will come to an end _⌊in just a very little while_⌋,* and my anger will be directed to their destruction."

¹⁹ And thanksgiving and the sound of merrymakers will come out from them, and I will make them numerous, and they will not be few. And I will make them honored, and they will not be lowly.

¹⁷ Between the colonnade and the altar, let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep. And let them say, "Take pity, Yahweh, on your people. Do not make your inheritance a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the nations, 'Where is their God?'"

² And then when they* finished eating the vegetation of the land, I said, "O Lord Yahweh, please forgive! How can Jacob stand, because he is small?" ³ Yahweh relented concerning this. "It will not be," said Yahweh.

¹⁸ And when Yahweh raised leaders* for them, Yahweh was with the leader,* and he delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the leader,* for Yahweh was moved by their groaning because of their persecutors and oppressors.

¹⁶ So they removed the foreign gods from their midst and served Yahweh; and _⌊he could no longer bear_⌋* the misery of Israel.

¹³ Return,* O Yahweh. How long? And have compassion on* your servants.

¹⁴ for Yahweh will plead the cause of his people and will have compassion on his servants.

³ Yahweh relented concerning this. "It will not be," said Yahweh.

² And he prayed to Yahweh and said, "O Yahweh, was this not _⌊what I said_⌋* while I was in my homeland? Therefore _⌊I originally fled_⌋* to Tarshish, because I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger _⌊and having great steadfast love_⌋,* and one who relents concerning calamity.*

² When he defeated Moab, he measured them with the cord, making them lie on the ground. He measured two cords to kill and _⌊the third cord_⌋* to let live.* So Moab became servants of David, bringing tribute.

¹³ I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line of Samaria and the plumb line of the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes the dish; he wipes it and turns it on its face.

¹⁷ And I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,* and waters will flood over the hiding place.

¹¹ But* the large bird and the hedgehog shall take possession of it, and the owl and the raven shall live in it. And he shall stretch the measuring line of confusion out over it, and the plumb line of emptiness.

⁸ Yahweh has planned to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. He measured with a line; he has not restrained his hand from destroying; he caused rampart and wall to mourn; together they have languished away.

³ And he brought me there, and look, there was a man whose* appearance was like the appearance of bronze, and a cord of linen was in his hand and a reed for measurement; he was standing in the gate.

¹ And I _⌊looked up_⌋* and I saw, and look, a man, and in his hand was a measuring rope! ² And I asked, "Where are you going?" And he answered me, "To measure Jerusalem to see what is its width and what is its length."

¹ And a measuring rod similar in appearance to a staff was given to me, saying, "Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship in it.

¹⁵ And the one who spoke with me was holding a golden measuring rod in order that he could measure the city and its gates and its wall.

¹¹ And the word of Yahweh came to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* "What are you seeing, Jeremiah?" And I said, "I am seeing a branch of an almond tree." ¹² Then Yahweh said to me, "You did well to see, for I am watching over my word to perform it." ¹³ And the word of Yahweh came to me a second time, _⌊saying_⌋,* "What are you seeing?" And I said, "I am seeing a _⌊boiling_⌋* pot, and its face is from the face of the north."

⁶ You have forsaken me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "You go backward, so I have stretched my hand against you, and I have destroyed you. I am tired of becoming remorseful.

² "And you, son of man,* thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel: 'The end comes, the end on the four corners of the land. ³ Now the end is on you, and I will send my anger on you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will bring on you all your detestable things. ⁴ And my eye will not take pity on you, and I will not show compassion for your ways; on you I will bring your detestable things; they will be in the midst of you, and you will know that I am Yahweh.' ⁵ Thus says the Lord Yahweh: 'Look! Disaster after disaster is coming! ⁶ The end comes, comes the end! It has awakened against you! Look! It comes! ⁷ Doom is coming against you, the dweller* of the land; the time comes, the day is near, panic and not joy is on the mountains. ⁸ _⌊Soon_⌋* I will pour out my rage on you, and I will fully vent my anger on you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will bring on you all of your detestable things. ⁹ And my eye will not take pity, and I will not show compassion. According to your ways I will _⌊deal with you_⌋,* and your detestable things will be in the midst of you, and you will know that I am Yahweh who strikes.*

² And he said, "What do you see, Amos?" And I said, "A basket of summer fruit." And Yahweh said to me, "The end has come upon my people Israel. I will not pass by them again!"

¹⁸ Who is a God like you, forgiving sin and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, for he delights in loyal love.

⁸ But with a rushing torrent he will bring Nineveh to an end; he will chase his enemies into darkness. ⁹ What* do you plot against Yahweh? _⌊He will completely destroy it_⌋;* trouble will not rise up a second time!

² And he asked me, "What are you seeing?" And I said, "I am seeing a flying scroll twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide."*

²³ And from there he went up to Beersheba. ²⁴ And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and I will bless you and make your descendants numerous for the sake of my servant Abraham." ²⁵ And he built an altar there and called on the name of Yahweh. And he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Isaac dug a well there.

¹ So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.

³⁰ And I will destroy your high places, and I will cut down your incense altars, and I will place your corpses on your idols' corpses; and my inner self* shall abhor you. ³¹ And I will lay your cities in ruins, and I will lay waste your sanctuaries; and I shall not smell your sacrifices'* appeasing fragrance.

⁸ In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria for six months. ⁹ He did evil in the eyes of Yahweh as his ancestors* had done. He did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat which he caused Israel to sin. ¹⁰ Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, struck him in front of the people, killed him, and reigned in his place.

¹⁸ _⌊Your holy people_⌋* took possession for a little while; our adversaries have trampled down your sanctuary.

⁸ The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. Thorn and thistle will grow on their altars. They will say to the mountains, "Cover us," and to the hills, "Fall on us."

¹⁴ "For on the day I punish Israel for _⌊its transgression_⌋,* I will also punish the altars of Bethel and the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.

⁵ But do not seek Bethel or go to Gilgal or cross over to Beersheba, for Gilgal will certainly go into exile and Bethel will come to disaster."

¹⁴ These are those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, 'By the life of your gods, O Dan,' and 'By the life of the way of Beersheba,' they will fall and they will not rise again."

⁸ Then his brothers said to him, "Will you really rule over us?" And _⌊they hated him even more_⌋* on account of his dream and because of his words.

³¹ Then he built the houses on the high places, and he appointed priests _⌊from all walks of life_⌋* who were not from the sons of Levi. ³² Jeroboam also inaugurated a religious feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the religious feast which was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. Thus he did in Bethel, by sacrificing to the calves that he had made; and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

³³ After this event, Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but he returned and again made priests for the high places of people from _⌊all walks of life_⌋.* He filled his hand with all his desire and became one of the priests of the high places himself.

¹⁷ When Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, "Is this you who throws Israel into confusion?"

²³ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Jehoash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Jehoash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, reigning forty-one years. ²⁴ But he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat which he caused Israel to sin.

⁸ So now you yourselves are considering that you are strong before the kingdom of Yahweh which is in the hand the sons of David, since you yourselves are a great multitude and you have bull calves of gold that Jeroboam has made for idols. ⁹ Did you not drive out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, the Levites? Have you not made for yourselves priests like all the peoples of the lands? All who come _⌊to be consecrated for priestly service_⌋* with a young bull or seven rams becomes a priest of what is not a god.

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us plan plans against Jeremiah, for instruction will not be lost from the priest, nor advice from the wise man, nor the word from the prophet. Come and _⌊let us bring charges against him_⌋,* and let us not listen attentively to any of his words."

¹ Now Pashhur, the son of Immer, the priest who was officer in charge in the temple of Yahweh, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. ² Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper Gate of Benjamin, which was by the temple of Yahweh. ³ _⌊And then_⌋* on the next day, when Pashhur brought Jeremiah out from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, "Yahweh will not call your name Pashhur, _⌊but_⌋* Terror From All Around.

⁸ _⌊And then_⌋* as Jeremiah finished speaking all that Yahweh had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, _⌊saying_⌋,* "You will die! ⁹ Why have you prophesied in the name of Yahweh, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be in ruins, _⌊without_⌋* inhabitant'?" And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the temple of Yahweh. ¹⁰ When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the house of the king to the temple of Yahweh, and they sat in the entrance of the New Gate of Yahweh's temple. ¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "_⌊This man deserves the death sentence_⌋,* because he has prophesied against this city as that which you have heard with your ears."

²⁶ "Yahweh made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, so that there are overseers in the house of Yahweh over any mad man who exhibits the behavior of a prophet, and you must put him into the stocks and into the neck iron, ²⁷ and so then why have you not rebuked Jeremiah the Anathothite who exhibits the behavior of a prophet for you?

¹³ _⌊And when_⌋* he was at the Gate of Benjamin, there was _⌊a sentry on duty_⌋* whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, _⌊saying_⌋,* "You are deserting to the Chaldeans!" ¹⁴ And Jeremiah said, "That is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldeans." But he would not listen to him. So Irijah seized Jeremiah and brought him to the officials. ¹⁵ And the officials were angry at Jeremiah and they struck him. And they put him in _⌊prison_⌋,* in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for they had converted it to the _⌊prison_⌋*.

⁴ Then the officials said to the king, "Please, this man must be killed, _⌊because_⌋* he is making slack the hands of _⌊the soldiers_⌋* who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking to them words like these, for this man is not seeking for welfare* to this people, _⌊but only_⌋* for harm."

²³ And after* he arrived at the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him while he* was teaching, saying, "By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?"

² And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us* to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying he himself is Christ, a king!"

²⁸ saying, "_⌊We strictly commanded_⌋* you* not to teach in this name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching! And you are intending to bring upon us the blood of this man!"

⁵⁴ Now when they* heard these things, they were infuriated in their hearts and gnashed their* teeth at him.

⁵ For we have found* this man to be a public menace and one who causes riots among all the Jews throughout the Roman Empire* and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes,

⁶ In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported Israel to Assyria. He placed them in Halah, in Habor, in the river regions of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

⁵ All day they twist my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

⁹ Why have you prophesied in the name of Yahweh, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be in ruins, _⌊without_⌋* inhabitant'?" And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the temple of Yahweh.

¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke it. ¹¹ Then Hananiah said before the eyes of all the people, _⌊saying_⌋,* "Thus says Yahweh, 'This is how I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, _⌊within two years_⌋,* from the neck of all the nations.'" And Jeremiah the prophet went on his way.

⁷ Therefore, they shall now go into exile at the head of the exiles and the feast of lounging shall pass away. ⁸ My Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself, _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, the God of hosts: "I abhor the pride of Jacob and I hate his citadel fortresses and I will deliver the city and its fullness!"

⁹ The high places of Isaac shall become desolate and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste. And I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword."

⁶¹ and* said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it* within three days.'"

¹⁴ For we have heard him saying that this Nazarene Jesus will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses handed down to us."

³⁶ All the remainder of your household will come to bow down _⌊before_⌋* him for a bit of silver or a loaf of bread and will say, "Please assign me to one of the _⌊priestly offices_⌋* so that I can eat a morsel of bread." '"

⁹ (Formerly in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he would say: "Come, let us go up to the seer." For the prophet of today was formerly called a seer.)

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in _⌊the prison_⌋,* for he was enraged with him concerning this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

¹⁰ who say to those who do see, "You must not see!" and to the seers, "You must not see truth for us; speak smooth things to us, see illusions,

¹¹ And the dogs _⌊have a greedy appetite_⌋;* they _⌊are never satisfied_⌋.* And they are the shepherds! They do not have* understanding. They all turn to their own way, each one for his own gain, _⌊every one of them_⌋.*

¹⁹ And you defiled me among my people for a handful of barley and for morsels of bread to kill persons who should not die and to keep alive persons who should not live by means of your lies to my people who are listening to your lies." '*

¹² But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets, saying, 'You shall not prophesy.'

¹⁰ "Who also among you will shut the temple doors so that you will not kindle fire in vain on my altar? I take no pleasure in you," says Yahweh of hosts, "and _⌊I will not accept_⌋* an offering from your hand.

³⁴ And behold, the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they* saw him, they implored him* that he would depart from their region.

³⁷ And all the people of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, because they had been seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and* returned. ³⁸ And the man from who the demons had gone out was begging him to stay with him, but he sent him away, saying,

³¹ At that same hour some Pharisees came up and* said to him, "Go out and depart from here, because Herod wants to kill you!"

³⁹ And they came and* apologized to* them, and after they* brought them* out they asked them* to depart from the city.

¹⁸ For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own stomach, and by smooth speech and flattery they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

¹⁴ But the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

² shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not by compulsion but willingly, in accordance with God, and not greedily but eagerly,

²⁹ He put one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

³² Jeroboam also inaugurated a religious feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the religious feast which was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. Thus he did in Bethel, by sacrificing to the calves that he had made; and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

¹ Suddenly a man of God from Judah came to Bethel, by the word of Yahweh, while Jeroboam was standing at the altar to offer incense.

¹⁷ But in order that it may not spread much further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more in this name _⌊to anyone at all_⌋."* ¹⁸ And they called them back and* commanded them* not to speak or to teach at all in the name of Jesus.

⁴⁰ And they summoned the apostles, beat them,* commanded them* not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.*

³⁵ A certain man from the sons of the prophets said to his fellow countryman, "By the word of Yahweh, please strike me." But the man refused to strike him.

³ Then the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and they said to him, "Do you know that Yahweh is going to take your master _⌊from you_⌋* today?" He said, "I also know; be quiet!"

⁵ Then the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho came near to Elisha, and they said to him, "Do you know that Yahweh is going to take your master _⌊from you_⌋* today?" He said, "I also know; be quiet!"

⁷ Then fifty men from the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance while the two of them stood by the Jordan.

³⁸ So Elisha returned to Gilgal. Now the famine was in the land, and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him. He said to his servant, put on the large pot and cook a stew for the sons of the prophets.

¹ Then the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "Please look; the place where we are living before you is too cramped for us.

⁷ And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, "On account of your reliance upon the king of Aram,* and since you did not rely on Yahweh your God, therefore the troops of the king of Aram* escaped from your hand.

² And Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him. And he said to King Jehoshaphat, "Should you be a help to the wicked and love those who hate Yahweh? On account of this, wrath has come against you from Yahweh.

³⁴ Now the rest of the words of Jehoshaphat, from the first to the last, behold, they are written in the chronicles* of Jehu the son of Hanani, which are recorded in the scroll of the kings of Israel.

¹ The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds from Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah the king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Jehoash, two years _⌊before_⌋* the earthquake.

⁵ but he will say, "I am not a prophet; I am a tiller of the soil, for a man has acquired me since my youth."*

²⁷ But the foolish things of the world God chose in order that he might put to shame the wise, and the weak things of the world God chose in order that he might put to shame the strong,

⁸ So then, thus you shall say to my servant David, 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts, "I took you from the pasture _⌊from following_⌋* the sheep to be a leader over my people, over Israel,

⁷⁰ And he chose David his servant and took him from the sheepfolds. ⁷¹ He brought him from following nursing ewes to shepherd Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance. ⁷² And he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and led them by the skillfulness of his hands.

⁷ But Yahweh said to me, "You must not say, 'I am a youth,'* for to _⌊whomever_⌋* I send you, you will go, and _⌊whatever_⌋* I command you, you will speak.

³ And he said to me, "Son of man,* I am sending you to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* to nations* who are rebelling, who rebelled against me, they and their ancestors,* they transgressed against me _⌊until this very day_⌋.* ⁴ And the children* are _⌊impudent_⌋* and _⌊stubborn_⌋,* and so I am sending you to them, and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh!'

¹⁸ Now as he* was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew, throwing a casting net into the sea (for they were fishermen). ¹⁹ And he said to them, "_⌊Follow me_⌋* and I will make you fishers of people."

⁹ And as* Jesus was going away from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth and said to him, "Follow me!" And he stood up and* followed him.

⁴⁶ and said to them, "Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and would rise from the dead on the third day, ⁴⁷ and repentance and the forgiveness* of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,* beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

⁸ But you will receive power when* the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest part of the earth."

²⁰ For we are not able to refrain from speaking about the things that we have seen and heard."

²⁰ "Go and stand in the temple courts* and* proclaim to the people all the words of this life."

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and* said, "It is necessary to obey God rather than men! ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed by* hanging him* on a tree. ³¹ This one God has exalted to his right hand as Leader and Savior to grant repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. ³² And we are witnesses of these things, and so is* the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."

² May my teaching trickle like the dew, my words like rain showers on tender grass, and like spring showers on new growth.

¹⁶ Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stop and let me tell you what Yahweh said to me last night." So he said to him, "Speak."

¹⁹ And he* said, "Therefore, hear the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne with all the hosts of heaven standing beside him from his right hand and from his left hand.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet, "Please listen, Hananiah, Yahweh has not sent you, and you have made this people trust in a lie. ¹⁶ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh, 'Look, I am going to send you from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.'" ¹⁷ And Hananiah the prophet died in that same year in the seventh month.

⁴⁶ "Son of man,* set your face toward the way of the south,* and preach to the south, and prophesy against the forest of the territory of the Negev.

² "Son of man,* set your face toward Jerusalem, and preach to the sanctuaries, and prophesy to the land of Israel.

¹³ But do not prophesy again at Bethel, because this is a sanctuary of a king and this is a temple of a kingdom."

⁶ "Do not preach!" they are preaching. They should not preach to these; disgrace will not overtake us.

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword behind you; and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a ruin. ³⁴ Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of its lying desolate, and you shall be in the land of your enemies; then the land shall rest, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ All the days of its lying desolate it shall rest for the time* that it had not rested during your Sabbaths while you were living on it. ³⁶ As for* the ones who remain among you, I will bring* fearfulness in their hearts in the land of their enemies; and a sound of a windblown leaf shall pursue them, and they shall flee like flight _⌊before_⌋* a sword, and they shall fall, but* there shall not be a pursuer. ³⁷ And they shall stumble over _⌊one another_⌋* as _⌊from before_⌋* a sword, but* there shall not be a pursuer; and _⌊you shall have no resistance_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* your enemies. ³⁸ And you shall perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies shall eat you. ³⁹ And because of their guilt, the ones among you who remain shall decay in the land of their enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors,* they shall decay with them.

⁵⁵ And he drove out nations before them and allocated them for an inheritance by boundary line, and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.

¹⁶ And their children will be dashed into pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered, and their wives will be raped.*

⁶ And you, Pashhur, and all those who live in your house will go into captivity, and you will go to Babylon, and there you will die, and there you will be buried, you, and all your friends to whom you have prophesied _⌊falsely_⌋.*'"

¹² And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah after Hananiah the prophet broke the yoke from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, _⌊saying_⌋,*

¹⁶ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh, 'Look, I am going to send you from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.'"

²¹ Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab, the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah, the son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you in my name a lie, 'Look, I am going to give them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and he will strike them before your eyes.

²⁵ "Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Because you yourself sent a letter* in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, _⌊saying_⌋,*

³¹ "Send to all the exiles,* _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Thus says Yahweh concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: "Because Shemaiah prophesied to you, though I have not sent him, and he has made you trust in a lie," ³² _⌊therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh, "Look, I am going to punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his offspring. There will not be for him a man who lives in the midst of this people, and he will not see the good that I am going to do to my people," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "For he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh." '"

²⁷ And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah after the king burned the scroll and the words that Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah, _⌊saying_⌋,* ²⁸ "_⌊Take again_⌋* for yourself another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll which Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, has burned. ²⁹ And concerning Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, you shall say, 'Thus says Yahweh, "You have burned this scroll, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Why have you written in it, _⌊saying_⌋,* "The king of Babylon will certainly come and he will destroy this land, and he will cause to disappear from it humankind and animals"?'"* ³⁰ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, "There will not be for him one who sits on the throne of David. And his dead body will be thrown out to the heat in the day and to the frost in the night. ³¹ And I will punish him, and his offspring, and his servants for their guilt, and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the people of Judah all the disaster with which I have threatened them, but they would not listen." '" ³² Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the son of Neriah, the secretary, and he wrote on it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, had burned in the fire, and furthermore was added to them many words like these.

¹¹ They raped women in Zion, young women* in the cities of Judah.

¹³ And Yahweh said, "Thus shall the _⌊Israelites_⌋* eat their unclean food among the nations _⌊where I will scatter them_⌋."*

¹³ On the tops of the mountains they sacrifice, and on the hills they make offerings, under oak, poplar, and terebinth, because their* shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the whore, and all your daughters-in-law* commit adultery. ¹⁴ _⌊I will not punish your daughters_⌋* when they play the whore, or your daughters-in-law* when they commit adultery; because they go aside with whores, and they sacrifice with temple prostitutes, a people that does not understand comes to ruin.

³ They will not remain in the land of Yahweh. But Ephraim will return to Egypt, and in Assyria they will eat unclean food.

¹¹ For this Amos has said, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will certainly go into exile away from his land.'"

² I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, and they will loot the houses, and the women will be raped; half of the city will go into exile, but the remainder of the people will not be cut off from the city.
