¹ Masters, grant your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you also have a master in heaven. ² Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving, ³ praying at the same time for us also, that God may open for us a door of the message, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which also _⌊I am a prisoner_⌋*, ⁴ so that I may reveal* it, as it is necessary for me to speak. ⁵ Live with wisdom toward those outside, making the most of the time. ⁶ Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how it is necessary for you to answer each one. ⁷ Tychicus, my dear brother and faithful servant and fellow slave in the Lord, will make known to you all _⌊my circumstances_⌋*, ⁸ whom I have sent to you for this very reason, in order that you may know _⌊our circumstances_⌋* and he may encourage your hearts, ⁹ together with Onesimus, my faithful and dear brother, who is one of you. They will make known to you all _⌊the circumstances_⌋* here. ¹⁰ Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, greets you, and Mark, the cousin of Barnabas (about whom you received instructions—if he should come to you, welcome him), ¹¹ and Jesus who is called Justus. These are the only ones who are fellow workers for the kingdom of God from the circumcision, who have been a comfort to me. ¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, greets you, a slave of Christ* always struggling on behalf of you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured* in all the will of God. ¹³ For I testify to him that _⌊he is working hard_⌋* on behalf of you and those in Laodicea and those in Hierapolis. ¹⁴ Luke the physician, our dear friend, greets you, as does Demas. ¹⁵ Greet the brothers in Laodicea, and Nympha and the church in her* house. ¹⁶ And whenever this letter is read among you, _⌊see to it_⌋* that it is read also among the Laodicean church, and that you also read the letter from Laodicea. ¹⁷ And tell Archippus, "Direct your attention to the ministry that you received in the Lord, in order that you may complete it." ¹⁸ The greeting is by my hand, Paul's. ¹³ " 'You* shall not exploit your* neighbor, and you* shall not rob him; a hired worker's wage you* shall not _⌊withhold_⌋* overnight until morning.

³⁹ " 'And if your* countryman* who is with you becomes poor, and he is sold to you, _⌊you shall not treat him as a slave_⌋.* ⁴⁰ He shall be with you like a hired worker, like a temporary resident; he shall work with you until the Year of Jubilee. ⁴¹ And he and his sons with him shall go out from you, and he shall return to his clan, and to the property of his ancestors* he shall return. ⁴² Because they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they shall not be sold _⌊as a slave_⌋.* ⁴³ You* shall not rule over him with ruthlessness, but* you shall revere your God.

¹² If your relative* who is a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman is sold to you, and he or she has served you six years, then in the seventh year you shall send that person out _⌊free_⌋.* ¹³ And when you send him out free from you, you shall not send him away empty-handed. ¹⁴ You shall generously supply him from among your flocks and from your threshing floor and from your press; according to that with which Yahweh your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. ¹⁵ And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you; therefore I am commanding you thus _⌊today_⌋.*

¹⁴ "You shall not exploit a hired worker, who is needy and poor, from among your fellow men or from among your aliens* who are in your land and in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not go _⌊down_⌋,* because he is poor and _⌊his life depends on it_⌋;* do this so that he does not cry out against you to Yahweh, _⌊and you incur guilt_⌋.*

⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. _⌊We are powerless_⌋,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others." ⁶ I was very angry when I heard their shouts and these words. ⁷ I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them, ⁸ and I said to them: "We ourselves have bought back our brothers the Jews who were sold to the nations as we were able. But now you yourselves have sold your brothers so they may be sold to us!" They were silent and could not find a word to say. ⁹ So I said, "The thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God to prevent the disgrace from the nations, our enemies? ¹⁰ Also, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Please stop taking this interest. ¹¹ Please restore to them this day their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, their houses, and the interest on the money, the grain, the grape juice, and the olive oil that you have been taking from them." ¹² So they said, "We will restore it and will not request anything more. So we will do as you say." Then I called the priests and made them take an oath to do this promise. ¹³ I also shook out my garment and said, "This is how God will shake out everyone from his house who will not keep this promise. So this is how his possessions will be shaken out and emptied." And all the assembly said, "Amen!" And they praised Yahweh, and the people kept this promise.

¹¹ Between their terraces they press out oil; they tread the presses, but* they are thirsty. ¹² From the city people groan, and the throat* of the wounded cries for help; yet* God does not _⌊regard it as unseemly_⌋.*

¹³ "If I have rejected my male or* female slave's case when their complaint was against me, ¹⁴ then* what shall I do when God rises up? And when he enquires, how shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he who made me in the womb make them? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

⁸ Do not be surprised if you see the poor being oppressed with violence or do not see justice and righteousness in the province. For one official is watched by a higher official, and there are even higher officials over them!

³ 'Why do we fast, and you do not see it? We humiliate our soul, and you do not notice it?' Look! You find delight on the day of your fast, and you oppress all your workers!

⁵ Is the fast I choose like this, a day for humankind to humiliate _⌊himself_⌋*? To bow his head like a reed, and _⌊make_⌋* his bed on sackcloth and ashes; you call this a fast and a day of pleasure to Yahweh? ⁶ Is this not the fast I choose: to release the bonds of injustice, to untie the ropes of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and _⌊tear_⌋* every yoke to pieces? ⁷ Is it not to break your bread for the hungry? You must bring _⌊home_⌋* the poor, the homeless. When you see the naked, you must cover him, and you must not hide yourself from your _⌊relatives_⌋.* ⁸ Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall grow quickly. And your salvation shall go before you; the glory of Yahweh will be your rear guard. ⁹ Then you shall call, and Yahweh himself will answer. You shall cry for help, and he will say, 'Here I am!' If you remove from among you the yoke, the _⌊finger-pointing_⌋* and _⌊evil speech_⌋,*

⁹ to let go each one his male slave and each one his female slave, the Hebrew and the free Hebrew, so that no one among the Judeans* should enslave his fellow countryman. ¹⁰ And all the officials and all the people obeyed, who had entered into the covenant to let go each one his male slave and each one his female slave, not enslaving them again, and they obeyed and they let them* go. ¹¹ But _⌊afterward_⌋* they turned back and they brought back the male slaves and the female slaves whom they had let go free, and they subdued them as male slaves and female slaves. ¹² And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, _⌊saying_⌋,* ¹³ "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: 'I _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with your ancestors* on the day of my bringing them out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves, _⌊saying_⌋,* ¹⁴ "At the end of seven years you must let go each one his fellow countryman, the Hebrew who has been sold to you and who has served you six years, and you must let him go free from you." But your ancestors* did not listen to me, and they did not incline their ears.* ¹⁵ And you turned back _⌊recently_⌋* and you did right in my eyes, to proclaim release each one to his neighbor, and you _⌊made_⌋* a covenant _⌊before me_⌋* in the house that is called _⌊by_⌋* my name. ¹⁶ But you turned back and you profaned my name when you brought back each one his male slave and each one his female slave, whom you had let go free according to their desire, and you subdued them to be to you as male slaves and as female slaves.' ¹⁷ "_⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh, 'You have not listened to me to proclaim release each one to his fellow countryman and each one to his neighbor. Look, I am going to proclaim to you a release,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'to the sword, to the plague, and to the famine, and I will make you a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

⁵ "Then I will approach you for judgment, and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers, and against those who swear _⌊falsely_⌋,* and against the oppressors of the hired worker with his wages, the widow and the orphan, and _⌊the abusers of_⌋* the alien,* and yet do not fear me," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁸ But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' because one is your teacher, and you are all brothers, ⁹ And do not call anyone* your father on earth, for one is your heavenly Father.

⁴⁸ But if that evil slave should say _⌊to himself_⌋,* 'My master is staying away for a long time,' ⁴⁹ and he begins to beat his fellow slaves and eats and drinks with drunkards, ⁵⁰ the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and at an hour that he does not know, ⁵¹ and will cut him in two and assign his place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!

¹ And he also said to the disciples, "A certain man was rich, who had a manager. And charges were brought to him that this person was squandering his possessions. ² And he summoned him and* said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give the account of your management, because you can no longer manage.' ³ And the manager said to himself, 'What should I do, because my master is taking away the management from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg. ⁴ I know what I should do, so that when I am removed from the management they will welcome me into their homes!' ⁵ And he summoned each one of his own master's debtors and* said to the first, 'How much do you owe my master?' ⁶ And he said, 'A hundred measures of olive oil.' So he said to him, 'Take your promissory note and sit down quickly and* write fifty.' ⁷ Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' And he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your promissory note and write eighty.' ⁸ And the master praised the dishonest manager, because he had acted shrewdly. For the sons of this age are shrewder than the sons of light with regard to their own generation.* ⁹ And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it runs out they will welcome you into the eternal dwellings. ¹⁰ "The one who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and the one who is dishonest in very little is also dishonest in much. ¹¹ If then you have not been faithful with unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?* ¹² And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you your own? ¹³ No domestic slave is able to serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money."

¹⁵ And it happened that when he returned after* receiving the kingdom, he ordered these slaves to whom he had given the money to be summoned to him, so that he could know what they had gained by trading.

⁸ because you* know that each one of you, whatever good he should do,* this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free. ⁹ And masters, do the same things to them, giving up threats, knowing that both their Lord and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him. ¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength. ¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil, ¹² because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. ¹³ Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness, ¹⁵ and binding shoes under your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace, ¹⁶ in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one, ¹⁷ and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, ¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, ¹⁹ and for me, that a word may be given to me at the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰ for the sake of which I am an ambassador in chains, that _⌊in them_⌋* I may speak freely, as it is necessary for me to speak.

¹³ For judgment is merciless to the one who has not practiced mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

⁴ Behold, the wages that were held back by you from the workers who reap your fields cry out, and the cries of the reapers have come to the ears of the Lord of hosts.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, because he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful."

¹⁶ And he has a name written on his outer garment and on his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords."

²³ Also, as for me, far be it from me _⌊that I should sin_⌋* against Yahweh by ceasing to pray for you! I will instruct you in the good and righteous way.

⁴ "_⌊What is worse_⌋,* you yourself* are doing away with fear, and you are lessening meditation _⌊before_⌋* God.

⁸ for what is the hope of the godless when he cuts them off, when God takes away his life? ⁹ Will God hear his cry of distress when distress comes upon him? ¹⁰ Or, in Shaddai will he find delight? Will he call upon God at all times?

¹⁶ As for me, I will call to God, and Yahweh will save me. ¹⁷ _⌊Morning, noon and night_⌋* I will lament and groan loudly, and he will hear my voice.

⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.*

⁴¹ Stay awake and pray that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak!"

³³ Watch out! Be alert, because you do not know when the time is!

¹ And he told them a parable to show that they must always pray and not be discouraged,

³⁶ But be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

¹² rejoicing in hope, enduring in affliction, being devoted to prayer,

¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

⁹ Because of this also we, from the day we heard about it,* did not cease praying for you, and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual insight,

⁷ firmly rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding with thankfulness.

¹⁵ And the peace of Christ must rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful.

¹⁷ and everything _⌊whatever_⌋* you do in word or in deed, giving thanks for all things in the name of the Lord Jesus to God the Father through him.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, greets you, a slave of Christ* always struggling on behalf of you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured* in all the will of God.

¹⁷ pray constantly, ¹⁸ give thanks in everything; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

⁷ Now the end of all things draws near. Therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for your prayers.

¹¹ And he answered and* said to them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to those people it has not been granted.

²⁷ And when they* arrived and called the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles.*

³⁰ Now I exhort you, brothers, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to contend along with me in your prayers on my behalf to God, ³¹ that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, and my ministry in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, ³² so that, coming to you with joy by the will of God, I may rest with you.

¹ Thus let a person consider us as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries.

⁹ for a great and effective door has opened for me, and there are many opponents.

¹² Now when I* arrived in Troas for the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me by the Lord,

¹ On account of this I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles

¹ Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, exhort you to live in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called:

⁷ just as it is right for me to think this about all of you, because I have you in my heart, since* both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel all of you are sharers of grace with me.

¹³ so that my imprisonment in Christ has become known in the whole praetorium* and to all the rest, ¹⁴ and most of the brothers, trusting in the Lord because of my imprisonment, dare even more to speak the word without fear.

¹⁹ for I know that this will turn out to me for deliverance through your prayer and the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

²⁶ the mystery which has been hidden from the ages and from the generations, but has now been revealed to his saints,

² so that their hearts may be encouraged, united in love and into all the wealth of the full assurance of insight into the knowledge of the mystery of God, Christ, ³ in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.

²⁵ Brothers, pray for us.*

¹ Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may progress and be honored, just as also it was with you, ² and that we may be delivered from evil and wicked people, _⌊for not all have the faith_⌋*.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he refreshed me many times, and was not ashamed of my imprisonment,

⁹ in connection with which I suffer misfortune to the point of _⌊imprisonment_⌋* as a criminal, but the word of God is not bound.

²² At the same time also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.

¹⁸ Pray for us, for we are convinced that we have a good conscience, and want to conduct ourselves commendably in every way. ¹⁹ And I especially urge you to do this, so that I may be restored to you more quickly.

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:
"This is what the holy one, the true one, the one who has the key of David, the one who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one can open, says: ⁸ 'I know your works (behold, I have put before you an opened door that no one is able to shut*) that you have a little strength, and have kept my word, and did not deny my name.

²⁶ "Therefore do not be afraid of them, because nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing secret that will not become known. ²⁷ What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light, and what you hear in your ear, proclaim on the housetops.

²⁹ And now, Lord, concern yourself with their threats and grant your slaves to speak your message with all boldness,

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and* said, "It is necessary to obey God rather than men!

⁴ and my speech and my preaching were not with the persuasiveness* of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and power, ⁵ in order that your faith would not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

¹⁴ But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ, and who reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of him through us in every place. ¹⁵ For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, ¹⁶ to those on the one hand an odor from death to death, and to those on the other hand a fragrance from life to life. And who is qualified for these things? ¹⁷ For we are not like the majority who peddle the word of God, but as from pure motives—but as from God—we speak before God in Christ.

¹² Therefore, because we* have such a hope, we use much boldness,

¹ Because of this, since we* have this ministry, just as we have been shown mercy, we do not lose heart, ² but we have renounced shameful hidden things, not behaving with craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but with the open proclamation of the truth commending ourselves to every person's conscience before God. ³ But if indeed our gospel is veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, ⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

²⁰ for the sake of which I am an ambassador in chains, that _⌊in them_⌋* I may speak freely, as it is necessary for me to speak.

⁶ Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how it is necessary for you to answer each one.

¹² So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

¹⁶ "Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

¹¹ And he said to them, "To you has been granted the secret of the kingdom of God, but to those who are outside everything is in parables,

¹⁹ For the report of your obedience has reached to all; therefore I am rejoicing over you, and I want you to be wise toward what is good, but innocent toward what is evil.

¹² For what is it to me to judge those outside? Should you not judge those inside? ¹³ But those outside God will judge. Remove the evil person _⌊from among yourselves_⌋*.

¹⁹ but in the church I prefer to speak five words with my mind, in order that I may instruct other people, than ten thousand words in a tongue. ²⁰ Brothers, do not become children in your understanding, but with respect to wickedness be as a child, and in your understanding be mature. ²¹ In the law it is written:
"By those who speak a foreign language and by the lips of others I will speak to this people, and not even in this way will they obey me,"*
says the Lord. ²² So then, tongues are for a sign not to those who believe, but to unbelievers, but prophecy is not for unbelievers, but for those who believe. ²³ Therefore, if the whole church comes together at the same time and all speak with tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds? ²⁴ But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is judged by all, ²⁵ the secret things of his heart become evident, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, proclaiming, "God is truly among you!"

¹⁵ Therefore, consider carefully how you live, not as unwise but as wise, ¹⁶ making the most of the time because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Because of this do not become foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom, with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God,

¹² so that you may live decently toward those outside, and may have need of nothing.

⁷ But he must also have a good testimony from those outside, in order that he may not fall into disgrace and the trap of the devil.

⁵ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask for it from God, who gives to all without reservation and not reproaching, and it will be given to him.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his* good behavior his works, with the humility of wisdom.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, obedient, full of mercy and good fruits, nonjudgmental, without hypocrisy,

¹ In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some are disobedient to the word, they may be won over without a word by the conduct of their wives,

¹³ Also all* of your grain offerings you must season with salt; you* must not omit the salt of your God's covenant from your offering.

⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.* ⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up.

¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children* by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.

²⁰ So he said, "Bring me a new bowl and put salt in it." So they brought it to him. ²¹ Then he went out to the spring of waters and threw the salt into it there and said, "Thus says Yahweh, 'I hereby purify these waters; let there be no longer any death or unproductiveness from it.'" ²² Then the waters were purified until this very day according to the word of Elisha that he spoke.

²⁴ Proclaim his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among the peoples!

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart. His steps will not slip.

⁹ I have brought good tidings of righteousness in the great congregation. Look, I have not shut my lips. O Yahweh, _⌊you surely know that_⌋.* ¹⁰ Your righteousness I have not hidden in the midst of my heart. I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loyal love or your faithfulness from the great congregation.

² You are the most handsome of the sons of humankind; grace is poured out on your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever.

¹⁶ Come and hear, all you God-fearers, and I will tell what he has done for me.*

¹⁵ My mouth will tell of your righteousness, your salvation _⌊all day long_⌋,* though I do not know the full sum of them. ¹⁶ I will come in to tell the mighty deeds of Lord Yahweh. I will _⌊make known_⌋* your righteousness, yours only. ¹⁷ O God, you have taught me from my youth, and up to now I have proclaimed your wonderful deeds. ¹⁸ And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not abandon me until I proclaim your _⌊strength_⌋* to this generation, your power to every one that comes after.

²³ My lips will sing for joy when I sing praises to you, and my soul, which you have redeemed. ²⁴ My tongue also will speak of your righteousness all the day, because they have been put to shame, because they have been humiliated who seek my harm.

³ that we have heard and known, and our ancestors* have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children,* telling the next generation the praises of Yahweh, and his power and his wonders that he has done.

² Sing to him; sing praises concerning him; tell of all his wonderful works.

¹³ With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of your mouth.

⁴⁶ And I will speak of your testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed.

²¹ Lips of righteousness feed many, but fools _⌊die for lack of sense_⌋.*

⁴ Gentleness* of tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it* causes a break in spirit.

⁷ The lips of the wise will spread knowledge, but the heart* of fools, not so.

²¹ The wise of heart* is called perceptive, but he who is pleasant of lips will increase persuasiveness. ²² A fountain of life is wisdom for its owner,* but the instruction* of fools is folly. ²³ The heart* of the wise will make his mouth judicious, and upon his lips, it* will add persuasiveness. ²⁴ Pleasant sayings are a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and healing to the bones.

¹⁷ Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise; you shall apply your heart* to my teaching. ¹⁸ For it is pleasant if you guard them _⌊within you_⌋;* together they will be ready upon your lips.

¹¹ Apples of gold in a setting of silver is a matter spoken at* its proper time. ¹² A ring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a rebuke of the wise to the ear of a listener.

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly lest you become like him—even you. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, or else he will be wise in his own eyes.

¹² The wise man wins favor by the words of his mouth, but the fool is devoured by his own lips.

¹⁶ Then those who revered* Yahweh spoke _⌊with one another_⌋.* And Yahweh listened attentively* and heard, and a scroll of remembrance was written _⌊before him_⌋* of those who revere* Yahweh and ponder his name. ¹⁷ "They will be mine," says Yahweh of hosts, "on the day that I am acting, my treasured possession. I will have compassion on them as a man has compassion on his son who serves him. ¹⁸ You will return and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not serve him.

¹³ "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, by what will it be made salty? It is good for nothing any longer except to be thrown outside and* trampled under foot by people.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you* are evil? For from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good person from his* good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his* evil treasury brings out evil things.

⁵⁰ Salt is good, but if the salt becomes deprived of its salt content, by what can you make it salty? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another."

²² And they were all speaking well of him, and were astonished at the gracious words that were coming out of his mouth. And they were saying, "Is this man not the son of Joseph?"

²⁰ And they watched him* closely and* sent spies who pretended they were upright, in order that they could catch him in a statement, so that they could hand him over to the authority and the jurisdiction of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and do not _⌊show partiality_⌋,* but teach the way of God in truth. ²² Is it permitted for us to pay taxes* to Caesar or not?" ²³ But seeing through their craftiness, he said to them, ²⁴ "Show me a denarius! Whose image and inscription does it have?" And they answered and* said,* "Caesar's." ²⁵ So he said to them, "Well then, give to Caesar the things of Caesar, and to God the things of God!" ²⁶ And they were not able to catch him** in a statement in the sight of the people, and astonished at his answer, they became silent. ²⁷ Now some of the Sadducees—who deny _⌊that there is a resurrection_⌋*—came up and* asked him, ²⁸ saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us if someone's brother dies having a wife, and this man is childless, that his brother should take the wife and _⌊father_⌋* descendants for his brother. ²⁹ Now there were seven brothers, and the first took a wife and* died childless, ³⁰ and the second, ³¹ and the third took her, and likewise also the seven did not leave children and died. ³² Finally the woman also died. ³³ Therefore in the resurrection, the woman—whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife." ³⁴ And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, ³⁵ but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, ³⁶ for they are not even able to die any longer, because they are like the angels and are sons of God, because they* are sons of the resurrection. ³⁷ But that the dead are raised, even Moses revealed in the passage about* the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him!" ³⁹ And some of the scribes answered and* said, "Teacher, you have spoken well." ⁴⁰ For they no longer dared to ask him anything.

²⁹ _⌊No rotten word must proceed_⌋* from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear,

¹⁵ but set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense to anyone who asks you for an accounting concerning the hope that is in you.

⁴ And Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, and Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, and Gaius from Derbe, and Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus from Asia, were accompanying him.

¹ Thus let a person consider us as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries. ² In this case, moreover, it is sought in stewards that one be found faithful. ³ But to me it is a very little matter that I be judged by you or by a human court,* but I do not even judge myself. ⁴ For I am conscious of nothing against myself, but not by this am I vindicated. But the one who judges me is the Lord.

²¹ Now, so that you also may know _⌊my circumstances_⌋*, what I am doing, Tychicus, my dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will make known to you all things, ²² whom I have sent* to you for this very reason, that you may know _⌊our circumstances_⌋*, and he may encourage your hearts. ²³ Peace to the brothers and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁵ But I considered it* necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, but your messenger and servant of my need,

¹² But I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus.

¹² When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, make haste to come to me in Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there.

¹ "Comfort; comfort my people," says your God.

² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

¹⁷ Because of this, I have sent to you Timothy, who is my dear and faithful child in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

⁴ who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in all affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

⁷ So then, you should rather forgive and comfort him, lest somehow this person should be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

¹⁸ I urged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Titus did not take advantage of you, did he?* Did we not conduct ourselves in the same spirit?* Did we not walk in the same footsteps?*

²² whom I have sent* to you for this very reason, that you may know _⌊our circumstances_⌋*, and he may encourage your hearts.

²⁸ Therefore I am sending him with special urgency, in order that when* you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less anxious.

² so that their hearts may be encouraged, united in love and into all the wealth of the full assurance of insight into the knowledge of the mystery of God, Christ,

¹¹ just as you know how we treated each one of you, like a father his own children,

² and we sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker for God in the gospel of Christ, in order to strengthen and to encourage you about your faith,

⁵ Because of this, I also, when I* could endure it no longer, sent in order to know your faith, lest somehow the tempter tempted you and our labor should be in vain.

¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

¹¹ Therefore encourage one another and build up _⌊each other_⌋*, just as indeed you are doing.

¹⁴ And we urge you, brothers, admonish the disorderly, console the discouraged, help the sick, be patient toward all people.

¹⁷ encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.

⁷ Tychicus, my dear brother and faithful servant and fellow slave in the Lord, will make known to you all _⌊my circumstances_⌋*,

¹⁰ I am appealing to you concerning my child whom I became the father of during my imprisonment, Onesimus. ¹¹ Once he was useless to you, but now he is useful to you* and to me, ¹² whom I have sent back to you himself, that is, my heart, ¹³ whom I wanted to keep with me, in order that he might serve me on behalf of you during my imprisonment for the gospel. ¹⁴ But apart from your consent, I wanted to do nothing, in order that your good deed might be not as according to necessity, but according to your own free will. ¹⁵ For perhaps because of this, he was separated from you for a time, in order that you might have him back forever, ¹⁶ no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. ¹⁷ If therefore you consider me a partner, receive him as you would me. ¹⁸ But if in anything he has caused you loss or owes you anything, _⌊charge this to my account_⌋*. ¹⁹ I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will pay it back, lest I mention to you that _⌊you owe me even your very self besides_⌋*.

³⁶ So Joseph, who was called Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated "son of encouragement"), a Levite of Cyprus by nationality,

¹² And when he* realized this,* he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John (who is also called Mark), where many people were gathered together and were praying.

⁵ And when they* came to Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they also had John as assistant.

¹³ Now _⌊Paul and his companions_⌋* put out to sea from Paphos and* came to Perga in Pamphylia, but John departed from them and* returned to Jerusalem.

³⁷ Now Barnabas wanted to take John who was called Mark along also, ³⁸ but Paul held the opinion they should not take this one along, who departed from them in Pamphylia and did not accompany them in the work. ³⁹ And a sharp disagreement took place, so that they separated from one another. And Barnabas took along Mark and* sailed away to Cyprus,

²⁹ And the city was filled with the tumult, and with one purpose they rushed into the theater, seizing Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians who were traveling companions of Paul.

² And we went aboard a ship from Adramyttium that was about to sail to the places along the coast* of Asia* and* put out to sea. Aristarchus, a Macedonian from Thessalonica, was with us.

² in order that you may welcome her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever task she may have need from you, for she herself also has been a helper of many, even me myself.

⁷ Greet Andronicus and Junia,* my compatriots* and my fellow prisoners, who are well known to* the apostles, who were also in Christ before me.

²¹ Timothy, my fellow worker, greets you, and Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my compatriots.* ²² I, Tertius, the one who wrote this letter, greet you in the Lord. ²³ Gaius, my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus the city treasurer greets you, and Quartus the brother.

¹¹ Luke alone is with me. Take along Mark and* bring him with you, because he is useful to me for ministry.

²⁴ and so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.

¹³ She who is in Babylon, chosen the same as you, greets you, and so does my son Mark.

⁸ Watch yourselves that you do not lose what we have worked for, but receive a full reward. ⁹ Everyone who goes too far and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in the teaching—this person has both the Father and the Son.

⁴⁵ And those believers from the circumcision who had accompanied Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles,

² So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision took issue with him,

¹² and the father _⌊of those who are circumcised_⌋* to those who are not only from the circumcision, but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham _⌊which he had while uncircumcised_⌋*.

⁵ Therefore, what is Apollos and what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, and to each as the Lord gave. ⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing it to grow. ⁷ So then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who is causing it to grow. ⁸ Now the one who plants and the one who waters are one, but each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. ⁹ For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

¹ Now because we* are fellow workers, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

⁶ But God, who comforts the humble, comforted us by the coming of Titus, ⁷ and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted among you, because he* reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

⁷ But these, when they* saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcision, just as Peter to the circumcision ⁸ (for the one who was at work through Peter for his apostleship to the circumcision was at work also through me for the Gentiles),

¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, the so-called uncircumcision by the so-called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands,

³ Yes, I ask also you, true yokefellow, help them, who struggled along with me in the gospel with both Clement and the rest of my fellow workers whose names are in the book of life.

⁷ because of this, brothers, we have been comforted because of you in all our distress and affliction through your faith,

¹⁰ For there are many rebellious people, idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,

¹ Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear friend and fellow worker,

⁴⁸ Therefore you be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.

⁴⁴ And being in anguish, he began praying* more fervently and his sweat became like drops of blood falling down to the ground.*

²⁶ If anyone serves me, he must follow me, and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

¹⁴ Now I myself also am convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to instruct one another.

³⁰ Now I exhort you, brothers, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Spirit, to contend along with me in your prayers on my behalf to God,

⁶ Now we do speak wisdom among the mature, but wisdom not of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are perishing,

²⁰ Brothers, do not become children in your understanding, but with respect to wickedness be as a child, and in your understanding be mature.

¹¹ Finally, brothers, rejoice, be restored, be encouraged, _⌊be in agreement_⌋*, be at peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

¹⁰ For am I now making an appeal to people or to God? Or am I seeking to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.

¹⁹ My children, for whom I am having birth pains again, until Christ is formed in you!

¹² Not that I have already received this,* or have already been made perfect, but I press on if indeed I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ.* ¹³ Brothers, I do not consider myself to have laid hold of it.* But I do one thing, forgetting the things behind and straining toward the things ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ Therefore as many as are perfect, _⌊let us hold this opinion_⌋*, and if you think anything differently, God will reveal this also to you.

⁷ just as you learned it* from Epaphras, our dear fellow slave who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf,*

²² but now you have been reconciled* by _⌊his physical body_⌋* through death, to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,

²⁸ whom we proclaim, by* admonishing every person* and teaching every person* with all wisdom, in order that we may present every person* mature in Christ,

¹ For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on behalf of you, and those in Laodicea, and all those who have not seen my face _⌊in person_⌋*, ² so that their hearts may be encouraged, united in love and into all the wealth of the full assurance of insight into the knowledge of the mystery of God, Christ, ³ in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. ⁴ I say this in order that no one will deceive you with persuasive speech, ⁵ for even if I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing and seeing your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. ⁶ Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, live in him, ⁷ firmly rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding with thankfulness. ⁸ Beware lest _⌊anyone take you captive_⌋* through philosophy and empty deceit, according to _⌊human tradition_⌋*, according to the elemental spirits of the world and not according to Christ, ⁹ because in him all the fullness of deity dwells bodily, ¹⁰ and you are filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority, ¹¹ in whom also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made by hands, by the removal of the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, ¹² having been buried with him in baptism, in which also you were raised together with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. ¹³ And _⌊although you were dead_⌋** in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, ¹⁴ having destroyed the certificate of indebtedness in ordinances against us, which was hostile to us, and removed it out of the way by* nailing it to the cross. ¹⁵ When he* had disarmed the rulers and the authorities, he made a display of them in public, triumphing over them by it.* ¹⁶ Therefore do not let anyone judge you with reference to eating or* drinking or participation in a feast or a new moon or a Sabbath, ¹⁷ which are a shadow of what is to come, but the reality is Christ. ¹⁸ Let no one condemn you, taking pleasure in humility and the worship of angels, going into detail about the things which he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, ¹⁹ and not holding fast to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by the ligaments and sinews, grows with the growth of God. ²⁰ If you have died with Christ to the elemental spirits of the world, why do you submit to them as if living in the world? ²¹ "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch," ²² which things are all meant for destruction by consuming according to human commandments and teachings, ²³ which things _⌊although they have_⌋*,* to be sure, an appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and humility and unsparing treatment of the body, _⌊do not have any value_⌋* against the indulgence of the flesh.

¹ Masters, grant your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you also have a master in heaven. ² Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving,

²³ Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²³ Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,

⁷ who in the days of his flesh offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard as a result of his reverence.

¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have trained their faculties for the distinguishing of both good and evil.

¹ James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes in the dispersion. Greetings!

¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much.

¹ Simeon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith equal in value to ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.

²⁴ Now to the one who is able to protect you from stumbling and make you to stand before his glory blameless* with exultation,

² For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

³ I testify that they gave* according to their ability, and beyond their ability, by their own choice,

¹ For I want you to know how great a struggle I have on behalf of you, and those in Laodicea, and all those who have not seen my face _⌊in person_⌋*,

¹⁵ Greet the brothers in Laodicea, and Nympha and the church in her* house. ¹⁶ And whenever this letter is read among you, _⌊see to it_⌋* that it is read also among the Laodicean church, and that you also read the letter from Laodicea.

"This is what the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator* of God's creation, says: ¹⁵ 'I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! ¹⁶ Thus, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit you out of my mouth! ¹⁷ Because you are saying, "I am rich, and have become rich, and I have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and pitiable and poor and blind and naked, ¹⁸ I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire, in order that you may become rich, and white clothing, in order that you may be clothed and the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed, and eye salve to smear on your eyes, in order that you may see.

⁵ also greet* the church in their house. Greet Epenetus my dear friend, who is _⌊the first convert_⌋* of Asia for Christ.

²⁷ I adjure you by the Lord, have this letter read aloud to all the brothers.

¹⁴ But if anyone does not obey our message through this letter, take note not to associate with him, in order that he may be put to shame.

³ Therefore* Moses said to Aaron, "This is what Yahweh spoke, saying, 'Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and _⌊in the presence of_⌋* all the people I will display my glory.'"* So* Aaron was silent.

⁵ You will keep the responsibility of the sanctuary and the responsibility of the altar, and there will no longer be wrath on the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹¹ Now, my sons, do not be negligent, for Yahweh has chosen you to stand before him to serve him and to be his servants and incense burners."

²³ And they will teach my people the difference between what is holy and what is unholy, and the difference between unclean and clean they must show them. ²⁴ And at a legal dispute they themselves shall stand to judge; employing* my judgments they shall judge it, and with respect to my laws and my statutes. ²³ And when they* had appointed elders for them in every church, after* praying with fasting, they entrusted them to the Lord, in whom they had believed.

²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock among which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he obtained through the blood of his own Son.*

¹ Thus let a person consider us as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries. ² In this case, moreover, it is sought in stewards that one be found faithful.

¹¹ And he himself gave some as apostles and some as prophets and some as evangelists and some as pastors and teachers

⁶ By* teaching these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, trained in the words of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed faithfully.

¹⁴ Do not neglect the gift that is in you, that was granted to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders.

¹⁶ Fix your attention on yourself and on your teaching. Continue in them, for by* doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patient endurance, gentleness. ¹² Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. ¹³ I command you, in the sight of God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, ¹⁴ that you observe the commandment without fault, irreproachable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

²⁰ O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Turn away from pointless empty talk and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge,

⁶ for which reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.

² and the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these things to faithful people who will be competent to teach others also.

¹ I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom, ² preach the word, be ready in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all patience and instruction. ³ For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound teaching, but in accordance with their own desires, they will accumulate for themselves teachers, _⌊because they have an insatiable curiosity_⌋*, ⁴ and they will turn away from the hearing of the truth, but will turn to myths. ⁵ But you, be self-controlled in all things, bear hardship patiently, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

²⁰ And in a short time the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ* be with you.

³ praying at the same time for us also, that God may open for us a door of the message, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which also _⌊I am a prisoner_⌋*,

²¹ which some, by* professing it, have deviated concerning the faith. Grace be with you all.

⁸ Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor me his prisoner, but suffer along with me for the gospel, according to the power of God,

²² The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

¹⁵ All those with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with all of you.
