²¹ They annoyed me with what is not a god; they provoked me with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those not a people, with a foolish nation I will provoke them.

⁸ Those who worship vain idols forsake their loyal love.*

¹⁵ And as I was beginning to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as also on us at the beginning.

²⁵ As he also says in Hosea,
"I will call those who were not my people, 'My people,' and those who were not loved, 'Loved.'*

¹⁹ But I say, Israel did not know, did they?* First, Moses says,
"I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation; by a senseless nation I will provoke you to anger."*

¹¹ I say then, they did not stumble so that they fell, did they?* May it never be! But by their trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy.* ¹² And if their trespass means riches for the world and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fullness mean? ¹³ Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Therefore, inasmuch as I am apostle to the Gentiles, I promote my ministry, ¹⁴ if somehow I may provoke my people to jealousy and save some of them.

²² Or are we attempting to provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than he is, are we?*

⁹ But you are a chosen race,* a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's possession, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light, ¹⁰ who once were not a people, but now are the people of God, the ones who were not shown mercy, but now are shown mercy.*
