⁸ _⌊When I say_⌋* to the wicked, 'Wicked one, you will certainly die,' and you _⌊did not speak_⌋* to warn the wicked from his way, he, the wicked, will die by his guilt, but his blood I will seek from your hand.

¹⁷ but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day _⌊that you eat_⌋* from it _⌊you shall surely die_⌋."*

⁴ But the serpent said to the woman, "You shall not surely die.

³ "Our father died in the desert; he was not in the midst of the company of those who banded together against Yahweh in the company of Korah, but he died in his own sin, and he had no sons.

²¹ _⌊Rest assured_⌋,* the wicked will not go unpunished, but the offspring* of the righteous will escape.

¹³ But it will not go well with the wicked, and they will not prolong their days, like the shadow; because there is no fearing _⌊God's presence_⌋.*

¹¹ Woe to the wicked!* It is bad! For what is done by his hands will be done to him.

¹¹ And they have treated the wound of the daughter of my people lightly, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Peace, peace,' but there is no peace. ¹² Were they ashamed, for they had committed a detestable thing? What's worse,* they were not ashamed at all, and they did not know to feel humiliated. _⌊Therefore_⌋* they will fall among those who fall; at the time of their punishment they will stumble," says Yahweh. ¹³ "_⌊I will take away their harvest_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "There are no grapes on the vine, and there are no figs on the fig tree, and the leaves wither, and what I gave to them passed over them." '"

¹³ Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, look, the prophets are saying to them, 'You will not see the sword, and famine will not be yours, but reliable peace I will give to you in this place.'" ¹⁴ And Yahweh said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies* in my name. I have not sent them, and I have not commanded them, and I have not spoken to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, and a divination, worthless, and the deceitfulness of their _⌊minds_⌋."* ¹⁵ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who prophecy in my name though I have not sent them, yet they are saying, "Sword and famine will not be in this land." "By the sword and by the famine those prophets will perish. ¹⁶ And the people to whom they are prophesying will be cast out into the streets of Jerusalem _⌊because of_⌋* the famine and the sword. And there will be no one who buries them, their wives, or their sons, or their daughters. And I will pour out on them their wickedness.

⁹ "And it will be my hand against the prophets who are seeing falseness and who are practicing lying divination. They will not be in the council of my people, and they will not be written down in the record book of the house of Israel, and into* the land of Israel they will not come, and then you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh. ¹⁰ Because, yes, because they led my people astray, _⌊saying_⌋* 'Peace!' And there is not peace. And when anyone* builds a flimsy wall, look, they coat it with whitewash.

⁴ Look! _⌊All lives are mine_⌋.* _⌊The lives of father and son alike are mine_⌋.* The person* sinning will die.

¹⁰ "And now he has a son, a violent one, _⌊who sheds blood_⌋* _⌊and does any of these things_⌋* ¹¹ (though* he* did not do all of these things), for the son also* eats on the mountains and he defiles the wife of his neighbor. ¹² He oppresses the needy and the poor, and _⌊he commits robbery_⌋,* and he does not return a pledge for a loan, and he lifts his eyes to the idols so he does a detestable thing. ¹³ _⌊He charges interest_⌋* and takes usury. Then, shall he live? He shall not live, for he did all of these detestable things. Surely he will die! His blood will be on him.

¹⁸ Because his father _⌊oppressed severely_⌋;* _⌊he stole from his brother_⌋;* that which is not good he did in the midst of his people, and look! He will die through* his guilt.

²⁰ The person,* the one sinning, will die. A son shall not bear the guilt of the father, and a father shall not bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him; the wickedness of the wicked* shall be on him.

⁶ And as for the watchman, if he sees the sword coming and _⌊he does not blow_⌋* the horn, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and it takes _⌊their lives_⌋,* he will be taken through his guilt, but his blood from the hand of the watchman I will seek.'

¹⁴ And when I say to the wicked, 'Certainly you will die,' but* he returns from his sin and he does justice and righteousness—

²⁶ Therefore I testify to you on this very day that I am guiltless of the blood of all of you,* ²⁷ for I did not shrink from proclaiming to you the whole purpose of God.
