And he instructed him and said to him, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. ² Arise, go to Paddan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel, your mother's father, and take for yourself a wife from there, from the daughters of Laban your mother's brother. ³ Now, may El-Shaddai* bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, so that you become an assembly of peoples. ⁴ And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham." ⁵ Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. ⁶ Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-Aram, to take for himself a wife from there, and* he blessed him and instructed him, saying, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan," ⁷ and that Jacob listened to his father and to his mother and went to Paddan-Aram. ⁸ Then Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of Isaac his father, ⁹ then Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael, son of Abraham, sister of Nebaioth, as a wife, in addition to the wives he had. ¹⁰ Then Jacob went out from Beersheba and went to Haran. ¹¹ And he arrived at a certain place and spent the night there, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his head and slept at that place. ¹² And he dreamed, and behold, a stairway was set on the earth, and its top touched the heavens. And behold, angels of God were going up and going down on it. ¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants. ¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants. ¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you." ¹⁶ Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely Yahweh _⌊is indeed_⌋* in this place and I did not know!" ¹⁷ Then he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! _⌊This is nothing else than the house of God_⌋,* and this is the gate of heaven!" ¹⁸ And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a stone pillar, and poured oil on top of it. ¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel; however, the name of the city was formerly Luz. ²⁰ And Jacob made a vow* saying, "If God will be with me and protect me on this way that I am going, and gives me food to eat and clothing to wear, ²¹ and if I return in peace to the house of my father, then Yahweh will become my God. ²² And this stone that I have set up as a pillar shall be the house of God, and of all that you give to me I will certainly give a tenth to you."

² Then* the sons of God saw the daughters of humankind, that they were beautiful. And they took for themselves wives from all that they chose.

³ that I may make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose midst I am dwelling,

³⁷ And my master made me swear, saying, 'Do not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land I am living.

³⁴ And when Esau was forty years old he took as wife Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite. ³⁵ And _⌊they made life bitter_⌋* for Isaac and Rebekah.

⁴ Then make for me tasty food like I love, and bring it to me. And I will eat it so that I* can bless you before I die.

²⁷ And he drew near and kissed him. And he* smelled the smell of his garments, and he blessed him and said,
"Look, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that Yahweh has blessed! ²⁸ May God give you of the dew of heaven and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of grain and new wine. ²⁹ Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you; Be lord of your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. Cursed be those cursing you, and blessed be those blessing you." ³⁰ And as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, _⌊immediately after_⌋* Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, Esau his brother came back from his hunting. ³¹ He too prepared tasty food and brought it to his father. And he said to his father, "Let my father arise and eat from the wild game of his son, that you* may bless me." ³² And Isaac his father said to him, "Who are you?" And he said, "I am your son, your firstborn, Esau." ³³ Then Isaac _⌊trembled violently_⌋.* Then he said, "Who then was he that hunted wild game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I blessed him? Moreover, he will be blessed!"

⁴⁶ Then Rebekah said to Isaac, "I loathe my life because of the Hittite women.* If Jacob takes a wife from Hittite women* like these, from the _⌊native women_⌋,* _⌊what am I living for_⌋?"*

³ Now, may El-Shaddai* bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, so that you become an assembly of peoples. ⁴ And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham."

⁹ Make marriages with us. Give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.

¹⁶ Then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take for ourselves your daughters, and we will live with you and become one family.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said,
"The God before whom my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, walked, The God who shepherded me _⌊all my life_⌋* unto this day,

²⁸ All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, each according to their blessing.

¹⁵ lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they prostitute themselves after their gods, and they sacrifice to their gods, and they invite you, and you eat their sacrifice, ¹⁶ and you take from their daughters for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves after their gods, and they cause your sons to prostitute themselves after their gods.

¹ Now* this is the blessing with which Moses, the man of God, blessed the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* his death.

⁷ And to the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua had given a possession with their kinsmen* beyond the Jordan to the west; and when Joshua sent them to their tents and blessed them,

¹⁴ Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers, for what participation is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? ¹⁵ And what agreement does Christ have with Beliar? Or what share does a believer have with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said,
"I will live in* them and will walk about among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people."*

²⁰ And it happened that after these things, it was told to Abraham, "Look, Milcah has also borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram, ²² and Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel." ²³ (Now, Bethuel fathered Rebekah). These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, the brother of Abraham.

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels from his master's camels, and he went with all kinds of his master's good things in his hand. And he arose and went to Aram-Naharaim, to the city of Nahor.

¹⁵ And it happened that before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah—who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, the brother of Abraham—came out, and her jar was on her shoulder. ¹⁶ Now the girl was very pleasing in appearance. She was a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came up. ¹⁷ And the servant ran to meet her. And he said, "Please, let me drink a little of the water from your jar." ¹⁸ And she said, "Drink, my lord." And she quickly lowered her jar in her hand and gave him a drink. ¹⁹ When* she finished giving him a drink she said, "I will also draw water for your camels until they finish drinking." ²⁰ And she quickly emptied her jar into the trough and ran again to the well to draw water. And she drew water for all his camels. ²¹ And the man was gazing at her silently to know if Yahweh had made his journey successful or not. ²² And it happened that as the camels finished drinking the man took a gold ring of a half shekel in weight and two bracelets for her arms, ten shekels in weight, ²³ and said, "Please tell me, whose daughter are you? Is there a place at the house of your father for us to spend the night?" ²⁴ And she said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor."

²⁹ Now Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. And Laban ran out to the man toward the spring.

⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered, and they said, "The matter has gone out from Yahweh; we are not able to speak bad or good to you.

²⁰ And Isaac was _⌊forty years old_⌋* when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-Aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, as his wife.

⁵ Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau.

¹ And Jacob _⌊continued his journey_⌋* and went to the land of the Easterners.*

¹⁸ And he drove all his livestock and his possessions that he had acquired, the livestock of his possession that he had acquired in Paddan-Aram, in order to go to Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.

¹⁰ _⌊I am not worthy_⌋* of all the loyal love and all the faithfulness that you have shown* your servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

⁹ And God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-Aram, and he blessed him.

¹² Jacob fled to the open field of Aram,* and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he watched over sheep.

I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you.

¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies. ¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, "You are our sister; may you become countless thousands; and may your offspring take possession of the gate of his enemies."

¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El-Shaddai.* Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and an assemblage of nations shall be from you, and kings shall go out from your loins.

⁵² And the name of the second he called Ephraim, for he said, "God has made me fruitful in the land of my misfortune."

¹⁴ And may El-Shaddai* grant you compassion before the man that he may release your other brother to you and Benjamin. As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved."

³ Then Jacob said to Joseph, "El-Shaddai* appeared to me in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

³ And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Shaddai,* but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them.

Unless Yahweh builds a house, its builders labor at it in vain. Unless Yahweh guards a city, a guard watches in vain.

³ Look, children* are the heritage* of Yahweh; the fruit of the womb is a reward. ⁴ Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children* of one's youth. ⁵ Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.* They shall not be put to shame when they speak with enemies at the gate.

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine _⌊within_⌋* your house. Your children* will be like olive shoots about your table. ⁴ Look, for thus shall a man be blessed _⌊who fears Yahweh_⌋.* ⁵ May Yahweh bless you from Zion, that you may see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life, ⁶ and that you may see your children's children. May peace be upon Israel.

¹⁸ and I will be a father to you, and you will be sons and daughters to me,"* says the all-powerful Lord.

²² And I did not see a temple in it, for the Lord God All-Powerful is its temple, and the Lamb.

¹ And Yahweh said to Abram, "Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you. ² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

⁷ And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.

¹⁴ And Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are to the north, and to the south, and to the east and to the west, ¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever. ¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted. ¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." ⁶ And he believed in Yahweh, and he reckoned it to him as righteousness. ⁷ And he said to him, "I am Yahweh, who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give this land to you, to possess it."

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you. ⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God."

¹² Hear my prayer, O Yahweh, and listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my tears. For I am an alien* with you, a sojourner like all my ancestors.*

¹⁷ May his name endure forever. May his name increase _⌊as long as the sun shines_⌋,* and let them be blessed in him. Let all nations call him blessed.

⁶ O offspring of Abraham his servant, you descendants* of Jacob, his chosen ones. ⁷ He is Yahweh our God; his judgments are in all the earth. ⁸ He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded for a thousand generations, ⁹ that he made with Abraham, and by his oath swore to Isaac. ¹⁰ He then confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, ¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance." ¹² When they were _⌊few in number_⌋*— a trifle—and were sojourners in it,

⁷ "Blessed are they whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins are covered over. ⁸ Blessed is the person against whom the Lord will never count sin."*

⁸ And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the good news in advance to Abraham: "In you all the nations* will be blessed."*

¹⁴ in order that the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

³ Blessed is* the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise. ¹⁰ For he was expecting the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. ¹¹ By faith also, _⌊with Sarah_⌋*,* he received _⌊the ability to procreate_⌋* even _⌊past the normal age_⌋*, because he regarded the one who had promised to be faithful. ¹² And therefore these were fathered from one man, and he being as good as dead, as the stars of heaven in number and like the innumerable sand by the shore of the sea. ¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth.

³³ Then Isaac _⌊trembled violently_⌋.* Then he said, "Who then was he that hunted wild game and brought it to me, and I ate it all before you came, and I blessed him? Moreover, he will be blessed!"

¹ Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him. And he instructed him and said to him, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

⁴³ Now then, my son, listen to my voice; arise and flee to Haran to Laban my brother.

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that Yahweh your God is giving you.

³ Each of you must revere your mother* and your father,* and you* must keep my Sabbaths; I am Yahweh your* God.

⁸ My child, may you keep* your father's instruction, and do not reject your mother's teachings,

¹⁷ The eye that mocks a father and scorns the obedience of a mother— the ravens of the valley will peck it out, and the offspring of vultures will eat it.

¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

³ "in order that it may be well with you, and you may _⌊live a long time_⌋* on the earth."*

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord.

⁶ But the matter _⌊was displeasing to Samuel_⌋* when they said, "Give us a king to judge* us," so Samuel prayed to Yahweh.

¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names according to their family records. The firstborn of Ishmael was Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, Massa, ¹⁵ Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their villages and by their encampments—12 leaders according to their tribes. ¹⁷ Now these are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. And he passed away and died, and was gathered to his people.

³⁴ And when Esau was forty years old he took as wife Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite.

¹³ Now these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau.

¹⁸ Now these are the sons of Oholibamah, the wife of Esau: the chiefs Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the chiefs born of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the wife of Esau.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot, the son of Haran, _⌊his grandson_⌋,* and Sarai his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan. And they went to Haran, and they settled there.

² So he said, "Men—brothers and fathers—listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he* was in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran,

¹³ Now after* some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea to welcome Festus.

¹⁸ And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a stone pillar, and poured oil on top of it.

⁴⁶ And Jacob said to his kinsmen, "Gather stones." And they took stones and made a pile of stones, and they ate there by the pile of stones.

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

⁵ For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, thus through Christ our comfort overflows also.

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came* to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward shall be very great."

¹² And it happened, as the sun _⌊went down_⌋,* then a deep sleep fell upon Abram and, behold, a great terrifying darkness fell upon him.

³ And God came to Abimelech in a dream at night. And he said to him, "Look, you are a dead man on account of the woman you have taken. For she is _⌊a married woman_⌋."*

⁶ Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes,* I know that in the integrity of your heart you did this, and I also _⌊kept you from sinning_⌋* against me. Therefore, I did not allow you to touch her. ⁷ So now, return the wife of the man, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you and you will live. And _⌊if you do not return her_⌋,* know that you will certainly die, and all that are yours."

¹ And Jacob went on his way, and angels of God met him. ² And when he saw them, Jacob said, "This is the camp of God!" And he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

⁵ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brothers. And _⌊they hated him even more_⌋.* ⁶ And he said to them, "Listen now to this dream that I dreamed. ⁷ Now behold, we were binding sheaves in the midst of the field and, behold, my sheaf stood up and it remained standing. Then behold, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf." ⁸ Then his brothers said to him, "Will you really rule over us?" And _⌊they hated him even more_⌋* on account of his dream and because of his words. ⁹ Then he dreamed yet another dream and told it to his brothers. And he said, "Behold, I dreamed a dream again, and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me." ¹⁰ And he told it to his father and to his brothers. And his father rebuked him and said to him, "What is this dream that you have dreamed? Will I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the ground to you?" ¹¹ And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

¹ And it happened that after these things the cupbearer of the king of Egypt and his baker did wrong against their lord, against the king of Egypt. ² And Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, with the chief cupbearer and chief baker. ³ And he put them in custody in the house of the chief of the guard, into the prison where Joseph was confined. ⁴ And the chief of the guard appointed Joseph to be with them, and he attended them. And they were in custody _⌊many days_⌋.* ⁵ And the two of them, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, dreamed a dream, each his own dream, with its own interpretation. ⁶ When Joseph came to them in the morning he looked at them, and behold, they were troubled. ⁷ And he asked the court officials of Pharaoh that were with him in the custody of his master's house, "Why are your faces sad today?" ⁸ And they said to him, "We each dreamed a dream, but there is no one to interpret it." And Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me." ⁹ Then the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, and he said to him, "In my dream, now behold, there was a vine before me, ¹⁰ and on the vine were three branches. And as it budded, its blossoms came up, and its clusters of grapes grew ripe. ¹¹ And the cup of Pharaoh was in my hand, and I took the grapes and squeezed them into the cup of Pharaoh. Then I placed the cup into the hand of Pharaoh." ¹² Then Joseph said to him, "This is its interpretation: The three branches, they are three days. ¹³ In three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and will restore you to your office. And you shall put the cup of Pharaoh into his hand as was formerly the custom, when you were his cupbearer. ¹⁴ But remember me when it goes well with you, and please may you show kindness with respect to me, and mention me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house. ¹⁵ For I was surely kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me in this pit." ¹⁶ And when the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good he said to Joseph, "I also dreamed. In my dream, now behold, there were three baskets of bread upon my head. ¹⁷ And in the upper basket were all sorts of baked foods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket upon my head." ¹⁸ Then Joseph answered and said, "This is its interpretation: The three baskets, they are three days. ¹⁹ In three days Pharaoh will lift your head from you and hang you on a pole,* and the birds will eat your flesh from you." ²⁰ And it happened that on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, he made a feast for all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker in the midst of his servants. ²¹ And he restored the chief cupbearer to his cupbearing position. And he placed the cup in the hand of Pharaoh. ²² But the chief baker he hanged as Joseph had interpreted to them. ²³ But the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

⁶ and he said,
"Please hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak to him in a dream.*

⁹ For the eyes of Yahweh roam throughout all the earth to strengthen those whose heart is fully devoted to him. You have been foolish in this, for from now on you will have wars."

¹² "And a word came stealing to me, and my ear received the whisper from it. ¹³ Amid troubling thoughts from night visions, at the falling of deep sleep on men, ¹⁴ dread met me, and trembling, and it made many of my bones shake. ¹⁵ And a spirit glided before my face; the hair of my flesh* bristled. ¹⁶ It stood still, but* I could not recognize its appearance; a form was _⌊before_⌋* my eyes; there was a hush, and I heard a voice: ¹⁷ 'Can a human being be more righteous than God, or can a man be more pure than his Maker? ¹⁸ Look, he does not trust in his servants and he charges his angels with error. ¹⁹ How much more dwellers in clay houses, whose foundation is in the dust? They are crushed like a moth. ²⁰ _⌊Between morning and evening_⌋* they are destroyed; without anyone regarding it they perish forever. ²¹ Is not their tent cord pulled up within them? They die, but* not in* wisdom.'

¹⁵ "In a dream, a vision of the night, when a deep sleep falls on men slumbering on their bed, ¹⁶ then he opens the ear of men, and _⌊he frightens them with a warning_⌋*

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

¹ Now* in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him. ² So the king said to call the magicians* and the conjurers* and the sorcerers and the _⌊astrologers_⌋* to tell to the king his dreams. And they came in and they stood _⌊before_⌋* the king. ³ And the king said to them, "_⌊I have had a dream_⌋* and my spirit is anxious to know the dream." ⁴ And the _⌊astrologers_⌋* said to the king in Aramaic,* "O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants and we will reveal the explanation." ⁵ The king answered and said to the _⌊astrologers_⌋,* "The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its explanation,* then you will be broken into pieces and your houses will be laid in ruins. ⁶ But if you tell me the dream and its explanation, you will receive gifts and rewards* and great honor from me. Therefore, tell me the dream and its explanation."* ⁷ They answered once more and said, "Let the king tell the dream to his servants and we will make the explanation known." ⁸ The king answered and said, "_⌊Certainly_⌋* I know that _⌊you are trying to gain time_⌋* _⌊because_⌋* you have seen _⌊that this matter is firmly decreed by me_⌋,* ⁹ for if you do not make the dream known to me, _⌊your verdict is fixed_⌋,* and you have conspired to say a lying and deceitful word to me until the _⌊circumstances_⌋* will change. Therefore, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can tell me its explanation." ¹⁰ The _⌊astrologers_⌋* answered the king and said, "There is not a man on earth that is able to reveal the word of the king; _⌊in fact_⌋,* no great and powerful king has ever asked a thing like this of any magician* or conjurer* or _⌊astrologer_⌋.* ¹¹ And the thing that the king is asking is too difficult and _⌊there is no one who_⌋* can reveal it to the king except the gods _⌊whose dwelling is not with mortals_⌋."* ¹² Because of this the king became angry, and he became very much enraged, and he said that all the wise men of Babylon are to be destroyed. ¹³ And the decree was issued, and the wise men _⌊were on the verge of being executed_⌋,* and they searched for Daniel and his companions to be executed. ¹⁴ Then Daniel responded prudently and discretely to Arioch, the commander of the imperial guard of the king, who had gone out to execute the wise men of Babylon. ¹⁵ _⌊He asked_⌋* and said to Arioch, the royal official of the king, "_⌊Why_⌋* is the decree from the king so severe?" Then Arioch explained the matter* to Daniel. ¹⁶ And Daniel went in and requested from the king that he would give him time, and _⌊he would tell the king_⌋* the explanation.* ¹⁷ Then Daniel went to his home, and he made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, his companions, ¹⁸ and told them to seek mercy _⌊from the God of heaven_⌋* concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions, along with the remainder of the wise men of Babylon, would not be killed. ¹⁹ Then in a vision of the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel; then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. ²⁰ Daniel _⌊said_⌋:*
"Let his name, the name of God,* be blessed _⌊throughout the ages_⌋,* for the wisdom and the power _⌊are his_⌋.* ²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons, and he deposes kings and he sets up kings; he gives wisdom* to wise men and knowledge to men who know understanding. ²² He reveals the deep and the hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. ²³ To you, O God of my ancestors,* I give thanks and I give praises, for the wisdom and the power you gave to me, and now you have made known to me what we have asked from you, for you have made known to us the matter of the king." ²⁴ _⌊Therefore_⌋* Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed* to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and thus he said to him: "You must not destroy the wise men of Babylon; take me in before the king and I will give the explanation* to the king." ²⁵ Then Arioch _⌊quickly_⌋* brought Daniel in before the king and thus he said to him: "I have found a man among _⌊the exiles_⌋* of Judah* who _⌊can relate_⌋* the explanation* to the king. ²⁶ _⌊The king then asked_⌋* and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, "Are you able to make known to me the dream that I have seen and its explanation?"* ²⁷ Daniel answered the king and said, "The mystery that the king asks, no wise men, conjurers,* magicians,* or diviners are able to make known to the king. ²⁸ But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that will be at the end of days. This is your dream and the visions of your head on your bed. ²⁹ "As for you, king,* your thoughts on your bed _⌊turned to_⌋* what it was that would be _⌊in the future_⌋,* and the revealer of mysteries has made known to you what that would be. ³⁰ And as for me, it is not because of wisdom that is in me more than _⌊any other living person_⌋* that this mystery is revealed to me, but _⌊in order that_⌋* the explanation* may be made known to the king and you will _⌊understand_⌋* the thoughts of your _⌊mind_⌋.* ³¹ "You, O king, were looking and, look, there was one great statue. This statue was huge and its brilliance extraordinary, standing there before you, and its appearance was frightening.* ³² The head of this statue was of fine gold, its chest and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze, ³³ its legs of iron, its feet, part of them of iron and part of them of clay. ³⁴ You were looking on _⌊until_⌋* a stone was chiseled out*—that not by hands—and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, and it broke them in pieces. ³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold _⌊all at once_⌋* broke into pieces* and they became like chaff from the summer threshing floor, and the wind carried them away and any trace of them could not be found. But the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain and it filled the whole earth. ³⁶ "This was the dream, and now we will tell its interpretation to the king. ³⁷ You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power and the might and the glory, ³⁸ and also _⌊human beings wherever they dwell_⌋,* the animals of the field and the birds* of heaven*—he has given into your hand and made you ruler over all of them—you are the head of gold. ³⁹ And after you another kingdom inferior to yours will arise, and another third kingdom of bronze that will rule over the whole earth. ⁴⁰ And a fourth kingdom will be strong as iron, and _⌊just as_⌋* iron crushes and smashes _⌊everything_⌋,* and as iron shatters all of these other metals, so it will crush and it will shatter these nations. ⁴¹ _⌊And just as_⌋* you saw the feet and the toes, _⌊partly potter's clay_⌋* and _⌊partly iron_⌋,* it will be a divided kingdom; and _⌊some hardness_⌋* of the iron will be in it, _⌊just as_⌋* you have seen the iron mixed with the wet clay. ⁴² And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so part of the kingdom will be strong _⌊and partly brittle_⌋.* ⁴³ And in that you saw the iron was mixed with wet clay, so _⌊they will mix in marriage_⌋* and they will not cling _⌊to one another_⌋,* just as iron does not mix with clay. ⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.* ⁴⁵ _⌊Inasmuch as_⌋* you saw that a stone from the mountain was chiseled out* but not by hands, and that it crushed the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold, thereby the great God made known to the king what will be _⌊in the future_⌋,* and the dream is certain and its explanation trustworthy." ⁴⁶ Then the king, Nebuchadnezzar, fell on his face and he paid homage to Daniel; and he commanded them to offer a grain offering and incense offering to him. ⁴⁷ The king answered Daniel and said, "_⌊Truly_⌋* your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings, and he reveals mysteries, for you are able to reveal this mystery." ⁴⁸ Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and the chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon. ⁴⁹ And Daniel made a request from the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the court of the king.

¹ * Nebuchadnezzar the king to all of the nations, the peoples and languages that live in the whole earth: "May your prosperity increase! ² It is pleasing to me to recount the signs and wonders that the Most High God worked for me. ³ How great are his signs and wonders, how strong is his kingdom, _⌊an everlasting kingdom_⌋;* and his sovereignty is from generation to generation. ⁴ "I, Nebuchadnezzar, was content in my house and prospering in my palace. ⁵ And I saw a dream and a revelation on my bed and it frightened me, and the visions of my head terrified me. ⁶ And a decree was _⌊sent out_⌋,* ordering that all the wise men of Babylon were to be brought in before me so that they may make known to me the explanation of the dream. ⁷ Then the magicians,* the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋* and the diviners came in and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me its explanation.* ⁸ Then _⌊at last_⌋* Daniel came before me _⌊whose name was_⌋* Belteshazzar, _⌊according to_⌋* the name of my god, and _⌊in whom was the spirit of the holy gods_⌋,* _⌊and I related the dream to him_⌋.* ⁹ " 'O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians,* I myself know that the spirit* of the holy gods is in you, and _⌊no mystery is too difficult_⌋* for you. Now tell me the visions of my dream that I saw, and its explanation.* ¹⁰ Now these were the visions of my head as I was lying on my bed: I was _⌊gazing_⌋* and, look, a tree was in the midst of the earth, and its height was exalted. ¹¹ The tree grew and it became strong, and its height reached to heaven,* and _⌊it was visible to the end of the whole earth_⌋.* ¹² Its foliage was beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was provision for all. Under it the animals* of the field sought shade, and in its branches the birds of heaven* nested, and from it all the living beings were fed. ¹³ " 'I was looking in the vision of my head as I lay on my bed, and look, a watcher,* and a holy one, came down from heaven. ¹⁴ He cried _⌊aloud_⌋* and so he said:
"Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; shake off its foliage and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches. ¹⁵ But the stump of its roots leave in the earth, _⌊along with_⌋* a band of iron and bronze; leave it in the grass of the field. And in* the dew of heaven let it* be watered, and with the animals* let his lot be in the grass of the earth. ¹⁶ Let his mind be changed from that of a human,* and let the mind of an animal be given to him, and let seven times pass over him. ¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the decision by the command of the holy ones, _⌊in order that_⌋* the living will know that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdom of humankind, and _⌊to whomever_⌋* he wills he gives it, and he even sets the humblest of men over it." ¹⁸ " 'This is the dream that I, Nebuchadnezzar the king, saw. Now* you, Belteshazzar, declare its explanation, _⌊for_⌋* all of the wise men of my kingdom were not able to make the explanation known to me, but you are able because the spirit of holy gods is in you.' ¹⁹ "Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was distressed _⌊for some time_⌋,* and his thoughts disturbed him. The king answered and he said, 'Belteshazzar, let the dream and its explanation not disturb you.' Belteshazzar answered and said, 'My lord, may the dream and its explanation be for those who hate you and for your enemies. ²⁰ The tree that you saw, which grew and became strong and its height reached to heaven* and _⌊it was visible to the end of the whole earth_⌋,* ²¹ and its foliage was beautiful and its fruit abundant, and so there was provision for all in it, and the animals* of the field lived under it and in its branches nest the birds of heaven,* ²² —it is you, O king, who have grown great and you have grown strong, and so your greatness has increased and it has reached to heaven* and your sovereignty to the end of the earth. ²³ And inasmuch that the king saw the watcher, a holy one coming down from heaven* and he said, "Cut down the tree and destroy it, but the stump of its root in the earth leave with a band of iron and bronze in the grass of the field, and let it be watered with the dew of heaven and let his lot be with the animals of the field _⌊until seven times have passed over him_⌋."* ²⁴ This is the explanation, O king, and it is a decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king: ²⁵ you will be driven away _⌊from human society_⌋* and _⌊you will dwell_⌋* with the animals* of the field, and you will be caused to graze grass like the oxen _⌊yourself_⌋,* and you will be watered with the dew of heaven, and seven periods of time will pass over you until that you have acknowledged that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdom of humankind, and _⌊to whom he wills_⌋* he gives it. ²⁶ _⌊And in that_⌋* they said to leave alone the stump of the tree's root, so your kingdom will be restored for you _⌊when_⌋* you acknowledge that heaven is sovereign. ²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my advice be acceptable to you and your sin remove* with righteousness and your iniquity with having mercy on the oppressed, _⌊in case there might be a prolongation of your prosperity_⌋.'"* ²⁸ _⌊All this happened_⌋* to Nebuchadnezzar the king. ²⁹ At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of _⌊the royal palace_⌋* of Babylon. ³⁰ And the king answered and said, "Is this not the great Babylon which I have built as a royal palace by the strength of my own power, and for the glory of my own majesty?" ³¹ While the words were still in the mouth of the king, a voice from heaven came, saying, 'To you, King Nebuchadnezzar, it is declared that the kingdom has departed from you, ³² and you will be driven away from _⌊human society_⌋* and your dwelling will be with the animals* of the field and they will cause you to graze the grass like oxen, and seven times will pass over you, until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdom of humankind and that he gives it to whom he wills.' ³³ _⌊Immediately_⌋* the word was fulfilled _⌊concerning_⌋* Nebuchadnezzar, and he was expelled from _⌊human society_⌋* and he ate grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven until his hair was like the hair of an eagle and his nails grew like a bird's claws. ³⁴ "But at the end of _⌊that period_⌋,* I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and then my reason returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and _⌊the one who lives forever_⌋* I praised and I honored.
"For his sovereignty is an everlasting sovereignty, and his kingdom continues from generation to generation. ³⁵ And all the dwellers of the earth are regarded as nothing, and he does _⌊according to_⌋* his desire in the host of heaven and among the dwellers of earth, and there is not one who can hold back his hand, or _⌊ask him_⌋,* 'What are you doing?' ³⁶ "_⌊At that time_⌋* my reason returned to me, and also the glory of my kingdom and my majesty and splendor returned to me, and my advisers and my lords* searched me out, and I was established over my kingdom and abundant greatness was added to me. ³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and honor the king of heaven, for all his works are truth,* and his ways are justice and that he is able to humble those who walk in pride."

¹ In the first year of Belshazzar the king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions* of his head as he lay on his bed; then he wrote down the dream and the _⌊summary_⌋* of the words _⌊as follows_⌋:*

²⁰ But as* he was considering these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

¹² And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by another route. ¹³ Now after they had gone away, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him."

¹⁹ Now after* Herod had died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

⁵¹ And he said to him, "Truly, truly I say to all of you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

¹⁶ At my first defense, no one came to my aid, but they all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. ¹⁷ But the Lord helped me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled and all the Gentiles might hear, and he rescued me from the lion's mouth.

¹ Although* God spoke long ago in many parts* and in many ways to the fathers by the prophets,

¹⁴ Are they not all spirits engaged in special service, sent on assignment for the sake of those who are going to inherit salvation?

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever.

⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you. ⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you.

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

²⁴ And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and I will bless you and make your descendants numerous for the sake of my servant Abraham."

⁴ And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham."

⁴² If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac had not been with me, indeed now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God saw my misery and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night."

⁹ Then Jacob said, "O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Yahweh, who said to me, 'Return to your land and to your family, and I will deal well with you.'

¹ And God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make an altar to the God who appeared to you when you fled from before Esau your brother."

⁶ And Jacob came to Luz which was in the land of Canaan (that is Bethel), he and all the people that were with him. ⁷ And he built an altar there and called the place El-Bethel, for there God had appeared to him when he fled before his brother.

¹² And as for the land that I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, I will give it to you. And to your descendants after you I will give the land.

¹⁵ And Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.

¹⁷ And _⌊when her labor was the most difficult_⌋* the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid _⌊for you have another son_⌋."*

³ Then he said, "I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there.

⁶ And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.

¹⁵ And God said again to Moses, "So you must say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my remembrance from generation to generation.' ¹⁶ Go and gather the elders of Israel and say to them, 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* appeared to me, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, "I have carefully attended to you and what has been done to you in Egypt."

¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance."

²⁴ " '"And my servant David will be king over them, and one shepherd will be for all of them, and in my regulations they will go, and my statutes they will observe, and they will do them. ²⁵ And they will dwell on the land that I gave to my servant, to Jacob, _⌊in which your ancestors dwelled_⌋,* and they will dwell on it, they and their children and the children of their children _⌊forever_⌋,* and my servant David will be a leader for them _⌊forever_⌋.*

³² "I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob"?* He is not the God of the dead, but of the living!"

⁵ And he did not give him an inheritance in it—not even a footstep*—and he promised to give it* to him for his possession, and to his descendants after him, _⌊although he did not have_⌋** a child.

¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁴ And Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are to the north, and to the south, and to the east and to the west,

¹⁸ Abraham will surely become a great and strong nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed on account of him.

¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring,

¹² Now you yourself said, 'I will surely deal well with you and make your offspring as the sand of the sea that cannot be counted for abundance.'"

¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El-Shaddai.* Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and an assemblage of nations shall be from you, and kings shall go out from your loins. ¹² And as for the land that I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, I will give it to you. And to your descendants after you I will give the land.

¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, or as a number the fourth part of Israel? Let my life die the death of an upright person, and let my end be like his!"

²⁰ "When Yahweh your God enlarges your territory just as he has _⌊promised_⌋* to you, and you say 'I want to eat some meat,' _⌊because you want it_⌋,* _⌊whenever you desire_⌋* you may eat meat.

¹¹ But I say to you that many will come from east and west and _⌊be seated at the banquet_⌋* with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

²⁵ You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed.'*

¹⁶ Now to Abraham and to his descendant the promises were spoken. It does not say, "and to descendants," as concerning many, but as concerning one, "and to your descendant,"* who is Christ.

⁴ And I heard the number of the ones who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

⁹ After these things I looked, and behold, a great crowd that no one was able to number, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes and with palm branches in their hands.

²⁰ And Jacob made a vow* saying, "If God will be with me and protect me on this way that I am going, and gives me food to eat and clothing to wear, ²¹ and if I return in peace to the house of my father, then Yahweh will become my God.

³ And Yahweh said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your ancestors* and to your family, and I will be with you."

² And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

²¹ And Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed loyal love to him, and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the prison.

⁴ I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I myself will also bring you up. And Joseph will place his hand over your eyes."

¹⁶ The angel who redeemed me from all evil, may he bless the boys. And through them let my name be perpetuated,* and the name of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac. And let them multiply into many in the midst of the earth.

²¹ And Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you back to the land of your ancestors.*

¹² And he said, "Because I am with you, and this will be the sign for you that I myself have sent you: When you bring the people out from Egypt, you will serve God on this mountain."

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of humankind, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? And has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

⁶ Be strong and be courageous; you should not be afraid, and you _⌊should not be in dread from their presence_⌋,* for Yahweh your God is the one going with you; he will not leave you alone and he will not forsake you."

⁵ No one will stand before you* all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will not fail you, and I will not forsake you.

¹⁴ Look! _⌊I am about to die_⌋,* and you know in all your hearts* and souls* that not one thing _⌊failed_⌋* from all the good things that Yahweh your God promised concerning you; everything _⌊has been fulfilled_⌋;* _⌊not one thing failed_⌋.* ¹⁵ But just as all the good things* came to you that Yahweh your God promised, so will Yahweh bring to you all the bad things* until he has destroyed you from this good land that Yahweh your God has given to you. ¹⁶ If you transgress the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he commanded to you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them, _⌊Yahweh's anger will be kindled_⌋* against you, and you will perish quickly from the good land that he has given to you."

¹⁶ And Yahweh said to him, "But I will be with you, and you will defeat Midian _⌊as if they are one man_⌋."*

⁵⁷ May Yahweh our God be with us as he was with our ancestors,* and may he not leave us or abandon us,

⁷ Yahweh of hosts is with us; our high stronghold is the God of Jacob. Selah

¹¹ Yahweh of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our high stronghold.

⁵ Yahweh is your protector; Yahweh is your shade at your right hand. ⁶ The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. ⁷ Yahweh will protect you from all evil;* he will protect your life. ⁸ Yahweh will protect your going out and your coming in from now until forever.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you* a sign. Look! the virgin* is with child and she is about to give birth to a son, and she shall call his name 'God with us.'

¹⁰ _⌊Make a plan_⌋,* but it will be frustrated! Speak a word, but it will not stand, for God is with us!

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

¹⁹ And they will fight against you but they will not prevail against you, for I am with you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "to deliver you."

²⁰ For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there in the midst of them."

³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age."

²⁸ And I give them eternal life, and they will never perish _⌊forever_⌋,* and no one will seize them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them* to me, is greater than all, and no one can seize them* from the Father's hand.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? ³² Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also, together with him, freely give us all things?

⁸ For the training of the body is _⌊somewhat_⌋* profitable, but godliness is profitable for everything, because it* holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."* ⁶ So then, we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.* What will man do to me?"*

⁵ And he said, "You must not come near to here. Take off your sandals from on your feet, because the place on which you are standing, it is holy ground."

¹¹ Who is like you among the gods, Yahweh? Who is like you—glorious in holiness, awesome in praiseworthy actions, doing wonders?*

¹⁵ The commander of Yahweh's army said to Joshua, "Take off your sandals* from your feet,* for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so.

⁴ Then Yahweh called out to Samuel and he said, "Here I am!" ⁵ And he ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, because you called me." But he said, "I did not call you. Go back and lie down." So he went and lay down. ⁶ And Yahweh called Samuel again, so Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, because you called me." And he said, "I did not call you, my son. Go back and lie down." ⁷ Now Samuel did not yet know Yahweh, and the word of Yahweh had not yet been revealed to him.

¹¹ "_⌊If_⌋* he passes by me, _⌊I would not see him_⌋;* and if he should move on, _⌊I would not recognize him_⌋.*

¹⁴ Indeed, God speaks in one way, even* in two,* yet someone does not perceive it.

³⁵ Awesome are you, O God, from your sanctuary.* The God of Israel, it is he who gives strength and might to the people. Blessed be God.

¹³ You shall regard Yahweh of hosts as holy, and he is your* fear, and he is your dread.

²² And this stone that I have set up as a pillar shall be the house of God, and of all that you give to me I will certainly give a tenth to you."

¹ And God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make an altar to the God who appeared to you when you fled from before Esau your brother." ² Then Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Get rid of the foreign gods that are in your midst and purify yourselves and change your garments. ³ Then let us make ready and let us go up to Bethel, so that I can make an altar there to the God who answered me in the day of my trouble, and who has been with me on the way that I have gone." ⁴ So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods that were in their hands, and the ornamental rings that were in their ears. And Jacob buried them under the oak which was near Shechem. ⁵ Then they set out on their journey, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, so that they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob. ⁶ And Jacob came to Luz which was in the land of Canaan (that is Bethel), he and all the people that were with him. ⁷ And he built an altar there and called the place El-Bethel, for there God had appeared to him when he fled before his brother. ⁸ And Deborah, the nurse of Rebekah, died. And she was buried below Bethel, under the oak. And its name was called Allon-Bacuth.* ⁹ And God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-Aram, and he blessed him. ¹⁰ And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob. Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." Then his name was called Israel. ¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El-Shaddai.* Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and an assemblage of nations shall be from you, and kings shall go out from your loins. ¹² And as for the land that I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, I will give it to you. And to your descendants after you I will give the land. ¹³ And God went up from him at the place where he spoke with him.

²² And Manoah said to his wife, "We will certainly die because we have seen God."

¹⁴ And the priests were not able to stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of Yahweh filled the house of God.

¹ * Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; draw near to listen rather than to offer a sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil.

⁶ And when* the disciples heard this,* they fell down on their faces and were extremely frightened.

⁹ And an angel of the Lord stood near them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and _⌊they were terribly frightened_⌋.*

³⁵ So they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting there clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid.

¹⁵ But if I am delayed, I am writing* in order that you may know how one must conduct oneself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and mainstay* of the truth.

²¹ and since we have* a great priest over the house of God,

¹⁷ For it is the time for the judgment to begin out from the household of God. But if it begins out from us first, what will be the outcome for those who are disobedient to the gospel of God?

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. And he took two of his servants with him, and Isaac his son. And he chopped wood for a burnt offering. And he got up and went to the place which God had told him.

¹³ I am the God of Bethel where you anointed a stone pillar, where you made a vow to me. Now get up, go out from this land and return to the land of your birth.'"

⁴⁵ And Jacob took a stone and set it up as a stone pillar.

¹⁴ And Jacob set up a pillar at the place where God had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. And he poured out a drink offering upon it, and poured oil on it.

²⁰ And Jacob erected a pillar at her burial site. That is the pillar of the burial site of Rachel unto this day.

¹⁰ Then* Moses took the anointing oil and anointed* the tabernacle and all that was in it, and he consecrated them. ¹¹ And he spattered _⌊part of_⌋* it on the altar seven times—thus* he anointed the altar and all of its utensils, and the basin and its stand, to consecrate them. ¹² Then* he poured out _⌊part of_⌋* the anointing oil on Aaron's head—thus* he anointed him in order to consecrate him.

¹ On the day Moses finished setting up the tabernacle and appointed and consecrated it and all its vessels, and the altar and its vessels, and he appointed them and consecrated them,

²⁶ Then Joshua wrote these words in a scroll of the law of God, and he took a large stone and set it up there under a large tree, which is at the shrine of Yahweh. ²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh that he spoke with us. It will be as a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."

¹² So Samuel took a single stone and put it between Mizpah and Shen, and he named it Ebenezer and said, "Up to here Yahweh has helped us."

¹⁸ (Now Absalom had taken and set up for himself in his lifetime a stone pillar that is in the valley of the king, because he said, "I have no son in order to remember my name," and he called the stone pillar by his name. It is called the monument of Absalom until this day).

⁶⁰ I hurry and do not delay to heed your commands.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

¹⁹ On that day, there will be an altar for Yahweh in in the middle of the land of Egypt, and a stone pillar for Yahweh at her border.

⁸ And he moved on from there to the hill country, east of Bethel. And he pitched his tent at Bethel on the west, and at Ai on the east. And he built an altar there to Yahweh. And he called on the name of Yahweh.

²² Likewise, the house of Joseph went up against Bethel, and Yahweh was with them. ²³ And the house of Joseph spied out Bethel (the former name of the city was Luz). ²⁴ And when the spies saw a man leaving the city,* they said to him, "Please show us the entrance of the city, and we will deal kindly* with you." ²⁵ So he showed them the entrance of the city, and they struck the city with _⌊the edge of the sword_⌋,* but they let go the man and all his family. ²⁶ And the man went to the land of the Hittites, and he built a city and named it Luz; this is its name to this day.

²⁹ He put one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

¹⁵ Even though you, O Israel, are playing the whore, do not let Judah become guilty; do not enter Gilgal, or go up to Beth-aven; and do not swear, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋!"*

⁴ He struggled with the angel and prevailed; he pleaded for his mercy. He met him at Bethel, and there he spoke with him.* ⁵ Yahweh the God of hosts, Yahweh is his renowned name!

¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."

¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say* to them, 'When a man makes a vow according to your* proper value of persons to Yahweh, ³ if* your proper value is for a male* from _⌊twenty years of age_⌋* up to* _⌊sixty years of age_⌋,* then* your proper value shall be fifty shekels of money according to the sanctuary's shekel. ⁴ But* if it is for a female, then* your proper value shall be thirty shekels. ⁵ And if from _⌊five years of age_⌋* up to* _⌊twenty years of age_⌋,* then* your proper value shall be twenty shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female. ⁶ And if from _⌊a month of age_⌋* up to* _⌊five years of age_⌋,* then* your proper value shall be five shekels of money for the male, and your proper value for the female shall be three shekels of money. ⁷ And if from _⌊sixty years of age_⌋* and above: if a male, then* your proper value shall be fifteen shekels; and for the female, ten shekels. ⁸ But* if he is poorer than your proper value, then* he shall present himself _⌊before_⌋* the priest, and the priest shall set a value on him; the priest shall value him _⌊according to_⌋* what the person who made a vow _⌊can afford_⌋.* ⁹ " 'And if it is a domestic animal from which they present an offering for Yahweh, all that he gives from it for Yahweh shall be a holy object. ¹⁰ He shall not replace it, nor shall he exchange it, either good with bad or bad with good; and if he indeed exchanges a domestic animal with a domestic animal, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be a holy object_⌋.* ¹¹ But* if it is any unclean animal from which they may not present an offering for Yahweh, then* he shall present the animal _⌊before_⌋* the priest. ¹² And the priest shall set a value on it, _⌊either good or bad_⌋;* as the priest sets your proper value, so it shall be. ¹³ And if he indeed wants to redeem it, then* he shall add a fifth of it onto your proper value. ¹⁴ " 'And if a man consecrates his house as a holy object for Yahweh, then* the priest shall set a value on it, _⌊either good or bad_⌋;* just as the priest sets a value on it, so it shall remain. ¹⁵ But* if the one who consecrates it wants to redeem his house, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall be his. ¹⁶ " 'And if a man consecrates _⌊some of_⌋* his property's fields* for Yahweh, then* your proper value shall be _⌊in accordance with its seed requirements_⌋:* a homer of barley seed for fifty shekels of money. ¹⁷ If he consecrates his field from the Year of Jubilee, it shall stand as your proper value. ¹⁸ But* if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then* the priest shall calculate the money for him _⌊according to the number of years_⌋* that are left over until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall be deducted from your proper value. ¹⁹ And if he indeed redeems the field that is consecrated, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall stand for* him. ²⁰ And if he does not redeem the field and if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again, ²¹ and the field shall be a holy object for Yahweh when it goes out* in the Jubilee, like a devoted* field; _⌊it shall be the priest's property_⌋.* ²² " 'And if he consecrates for Yahweh his acquired* field that is not the field of his inherited possession, ²³ then* the priest shall calculate for him the _⌊amount_⌋* of your proper value until the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give your proper value on that day as a holy object for Yahweh. ²⁴ In the Year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one who bought it from him, to the one whose property the land is. ²⁵ And every proper value of yours shall be in the sanctuary's shekel—the shekel shall be twenty gerahs. ²⁶ " 'However, a man shall not consecrate a firstborn among livestock, which belongs as firstborn to Yahweh; whether an ox _⌊or_⌋* small livestock, it is for Yahweh. ²⁷ And if it is among the unclean animals, then* he shall ransom it according to your proper value, and he shall add a fifth of its value onto it; and if it is not redeemed, then* it shall be sold according to your proper value. ²⁸ However, anything devoted* that a man has devoted to Yahweh _⌊from all that he has_⌋,* from human or* animal, or* from the field of his property, may not be sold, and it may not be redeemed; anything devoted is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋* for Yahweh. ²⁹ Anyone devoted who is devoted from _⌊human beings_⌋* cannot be ransomed—he shall surely be put to death. ³⁰ " 'And any tithe of the land from the land's seed or from the fruit of the trees is for Yahweh; it is a holy object for Yahweh. ³¹ And if a man indeed redeems from his tithe, he shall add a fifth of its value onto it. ³² As for* every tithe of cattle or* of the flock,* all which crosses under the rod, the tenth shall be a holy object for Yahweh. ³³ He shall not inspect between the good and the bad, and he shall not exchange it; but* if he indeed exchanges it, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be_⌋* a holy object—it shall not be redeemed.'" ³⁴ These are the commands that Yahweh commanded Moses for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on _⌊Mount Sinai_⌋.*

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and say to them, 'When a man or a woman takes a special vow, a vow of a _⌊Nazirite_⌋,* to keep separate for Yahweh, ³ he will abstain from wine and fermented drink; he will not drink wine vinegar or vinegar of fermented drink; he will not drink the fruit juice of grapes or eat fresh or dry grapes. ⁴ All the days of his separation* you will not eat from anything that is made from the grapevine, from sour grapes to the skin of grapes. ⁵ " 'All the days of the vow of his separation a razor will not pass over his head. Until fulfilling the days that he separated himself to Yahweh he will be holy and grow long the locks of the hair of his head. ⁶ " 'All the days of keeping himself separated for Yahweh he will not go to a person who is dead; ⁷ for even his father, mother, brother, or sister he will not make himself unclean _⌊by their death_⌋,* because the separation to his God is on his head. ⁸ He will be holy for Yahweh all the days of his separation.* ⁹ " 'If someone dies suddenly and makes the head of his separation* unclean, he will shave off the hair of his head on the day of his cleansing; on the seventh day he will shave it off. ¹⁰ On the eighth day he will bring two turtledoves or two _⌊young pigeons_⌋* to the priest by the doorway of the tent of assembly, ¹¹ and the priest will offer one for a sin offering and one for a burnt offering, and he will make atonement for him because he sinned concerning the corpse. He will consecrate his head on that day. ¹² He will rededicate to Yahweh the days of his separation* and bring a ram-lamb _⌊in its first year_⌋* as a guilt offering. The former days of his vow will fall away because his separation was defiled. ¹³ " 'This is the regulation of the Nazirite for the day of the fulfilling of the days of his separation: one will bring him to the doorway of the tent of the assembly. ¹⁴ He will present his offering to Yahweh, one ram-lamb _⌊in its first year_⌋* without defect as a burnt offering, and one ewe-lamb _⌊in its first year_⌋* without defect as a sin offering, and one ram without defect as a fellowship offering; ¹⁵ and a basket of unleavened bread, finely milled flour of ring-shaped bread cakes mixed with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread smeared with oil, and their grain offering and their libations. ¹⁶ The priest will present _⌊before Yahweh_⌋* and offer his sin offering, his burnt offering; ¹⁷ he will offer a ram as a sacrifice of a fellowship offering to Yahweh, in addition to the basket of the unleavened bread; the priest will offer his grain offering and his libation. ¹⁸ The Nazirite will shave off the hair of _⌊his consecrated head_⌋* at the doorway of the tent of assembly, and he will take the hair of _⌊his consecrated head_⌋,* and he will put it on the fire that is beneath the sacrifice of the fellowship offering. ¹⁹ The priest will take the shoulder from the ram that is boiled, and one ring-shaped bread cake of unleavened bread from the basket, and one wafer of unleavened bread, and he will put them on the hands of the Nazirite after he has shaved _⌊his consecrated head_⌋.* ²⁰ The priest will wave them as a wave offering _⌊before the presence of_⌋* Yahweh; they* are a holy object to the priest, in addition to the breast section of the wave offering, and in addition to the upper thigh of the contribution; and afterward the Nazirite may drink wine.

² Israel made a vow to Yahweh, and they said, "If you will surely give this people into our* hand, then we* _⌊will destroy_⌋* their cities." ³ Yahweh heard the voice of Israel; he gave to them the Canaanites, and _⌊they destroyed them_⌋* and their cities. They called the name of the place Hormah.

³⁰ And Jephthah made a vow to Yahweh, and he said, "If indeed you will give the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* into my hand, ³¹ whatever* comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* will be Yahweh's, and I will offer it as a burnt offering."

¹¹ She _⌊made a vow_⌋* and said: "O Yahweh of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the misery of your female servant, and will remember me, and not forget your female servant, and will give to your female servant _⌊a male child_⌋* then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and a razor will never pass over his head."*

²⁸ I in turn have lent him to Yahweh. _⌊As long as he lives_⌋* he is lent to Yahweh." Then they worshiped Yahweh there.

²⁴ Now the men of Israel were hard pressed on that day, because Saul had made the army take an oath, saying, "Cursed be the man who eats any food until evening, when I will have avenged myself on my enemies!" So none of the army tasted any food.

⁸ for your servant made a vow while I was staying in Geshur in Aram, saying, '_⌊If Yahweh will indeed let me return_⌋* to Jerusalem, then I will worship Yahweh.'"

¹ On the twenty-fourth day of this month the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gathered in fasting, in sackcloths, and with soil on them. ² Those of the seed of Israel separated themselves from all of the foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their ancestors.* ³ They stood up in their place and read from the book of the law* of Yahweh their God for a fourth part of the day, and for a fourth they were confessing and worshiping Yahweh their God. ⁴ Then Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Kenani stood on the platform of the Levites and cried out with a loud voice to Yahweh their God. ⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah said, "Stand up, bless Yahweh your God from everlasting until everlasting. Blessed be your glorious name that is being exalted above all blessing and praise! ⁶ "You alone are Yahweh. You alone have made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, and all of their army, the earth and all that is in it, the waters and all that is in them. You give life to all of them, and the army of the heavens worship you. ⁷ You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham. ⁸ You found his heart faithful before you and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite and the Girgashite—to give it to his seed. And you have kept your word because you are righteous. ⁹ "You saw the misery of our ancestors* in Egypt, and you heard their shout at the Red Sea. ¹⁰ You gave signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all of his servants, and all of the people of his land because you knew that they acted arrogantly against them. You made a name for yourself, as it is this day.

²⁵ From you is my praise. In the great assembly, I will pay my vows before those who revere him.

¹² My vows to you, O God, are binding upon me. I will pay thank offerings to you,

⁵ For you, O God, you have heard my vows. You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

⁸ So I will sing the praise of your name forever, that I may fulfill* my vows _⌊daily_⌋.*

¹³ I will come into your house* with burnt offerings. I will pay to you my vows

¹¹ Make vows and fulfill them to Yahweh, your God; let all surrounding him bring tribute to the one to be feared.*

¹⁴ I will pay my vows made to Yahweh in the presence of all his people.

¹⁸ I will pay my vows made to Yahweh in the presence of all his people,

¹⁰⁶ I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to heed _⌊your righteous ordinances_⌋.*

² How he swore to Yahweh, he vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

¹ * Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; draw near to listen rather than to offer a sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil. ² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be quick to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore, let your words be few. ³ For a dream comes with many cares, and the voice of a fool with many words. ⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for _⌊he takes no pleasure_⌋* in fools. Fulfill what you vow! ⁵ It is better that you not vow than that you vow and not fulfill it. ⁶ Do not let your mouth lead your flesh into sin, and do not tell the messenger that it was a mistake. Why anger God at your words, so that he destroys the work of your hands? ⁷ For with many dreams come vanities and numerous words. Therefore, fear God!

²¹ And Yahweh will make himself known to Egypt, and Egypt will know Yahweh on that day, and they will worship with sacrifice and offering, and they will make vows* to Yahweh, and they will fulfill them.

¹⁶ For from his fullness we have all received, and grace after grace.

¹⁸ So Paul, after* remaining many days longer, said farewell to the brothers and* sailed away to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his* head at Cenchrea, because he had taken a vow.

¹² And when it* was day, the Jews made a conspiracy and* bound themselves under a curse, saying they would* neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ Now there were more than forty who had made this conspiracy, ¹⁴ who went to the chief priests and the elders and* said, "We have bound ourselves under a curse to partake of nothing until we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Therefore, now you along with the Sanhedrin explain to the military tribune that he should bring him down to you, as if you were going to determine more accurately the things concerning him. And we are ready to do away with him before he comes near."

⁸ But if we* have food and clothing, with these things we will be content.

² Yah* is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation;* this is my God, and I will praise him—the God of my father—and I will exalt him.

¹⁷ Yahweh you have declared _⌊today_⌋* to be for you as your God, and to go* in his ways and to observe his rules and his commandments and his regulations and to listen to his voice.

³¹ whatever* comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* will be Yahweh's, and I will offer it as a burnt offering."

²⁴ Now, Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; he had not taken care of his feet nor trimmed his moustache nor washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he came back in peace.

³⁰ Then Mephibosheth said to the king, "Let him take the whole thing, since my lord the king has come _⌊safely_⌋* to his house."

¹⁷ Then Naaman said, "If not, then please let a load of soil on a pair of mules be given to your servants, for your servant will never again bring a burnt offering and sacrifice to other gods, but only to Yahweh.

²⁰ And blessed be God Most High who delivered your enemies into your hand."
And he* gave to him a tenth of everything.

³³ And he* planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, _⌊the everlasting God_⌋.*

¹⁷ Then he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! _⌊This is nothing else than the house of God_⌋,* and this is the gate of heaven!"

²⁰ And there he erected an altar and called it "El Elohe Israel."*

⁷ And he built an altar there and called the place El-Bethel, for there God had appeared to him when he fled before his brother.

¹⁴ And Jacob set up a pillar at the place where God had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. And he poured out a drink offering upon it, and poured oil on it. ¹⁵ And Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.

³⁰ " 'And any tithe of the land from the land's seed or from the fruit of the trees is for Yahweh; it is a holy object for Yahweh. ³¹ And if a man indeed redeems from his tithe, he shall add a fifth of its value onto it. ³² As for* every tithe of cattle or* of the flock,* all which crosses under the rod, the tenth shall be a holy object for Yahweh. ³³ He shall not inspect between the good and the bad, and he shall not exchange it; but* if he indeed exchanges it, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be_⌋* a holy object—it shall not be redeemed.'"

²² "Certainly you must give a tithe of all the yield of your seed, _⌊which comes forth from your field year after year_⌋.* ²³ And you shall eat _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God in the place that he will choose to make to dwell his name there the tithe of your grain, your wine and your olive oil and the firstling of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to revere Yahweh your God _⌊always_⌋.*
