And he said, "Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?" ³ Then she said, "Here is my servant girl Bilhah; go in to her that she may bear children _⌊as my surrogate_⌋.* Then I will even _⌊have children_⌋* by her." ⁴ Then she gave him Bilhah, her female servant, as a wife, and Jacob went in to her ⁵ And Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son for Jacob. ⁶ Then Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son." Therefore she called his name Dan. ⁷ And Bilhah, Rachel's servant, conceived again and bore a second son to Jacob. ⁸ And Rachel said, "I have struggled a mighty struggle with my sister and have prevailed." And she called his name Naphtali. ⁹ When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took Zilpah her female servant and gave her to Jacob as a wife. ¹⁰ And Zilpah, the female slave of Leah, bore a son to Jacob. ¹¹ Then Leah said, "Good fortune!" And she called his name Gad. ¹² And Zilpah, Leah's female servant, bore a second son to Jacob. ¹³ Then Leah said, "How happy am I! For women have called me happy." So she called his name Asher. ¹⁴ And in the days of the wheat harvest, Reuben went and found mandrakes in the field and he brought them to Leah his mother. And Rachel said to Leah, "Please give me some of your son's mandrakes." ¹⁵ And she said to her, "Is your taking my husband such a small thing that you will also take the mandrakes of my son?" Then Rachel said, "Then he may sleep with you tonight in exchange for your son's mandrakes." ¹⁶ When Jacob came in from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him. And she said, "Come in to me, for _⌊I have hired_⌋* you with my son's mandrakes." And he slept with her that night. ¹⁷ And God listened to Leah and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son for Jacob. ¹⁸ Then Leah said, "God has given me my wage since I gave my servant girl to my husband." And she called his name Issachar. ¹⁹ And Leah conceived again and gave birth to a sixth son for Jacob. ²⁰ And Leah said, "God has endowed me with a good gift. This time my husband will acknowledge me, because I bore him six sons." And she called his name Zebulun. ²¹ And afterward she gave birth to a daughter. And she called her name Dinah. ²² Then God remembered Rachel and listened to her, and God opened her womb. ²³ And she conceived and gave birth to a son. And she said, "God has taken away my disgrace." ²⁴ And she called his name Joseph, saying, "Yahweh has added to me another son." ²⁵ And it happened that as soon as Rachel had given birth to Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, "Send me away that I may go to my place and my land. ²⁶ Give me my wives and my children for which I have served you, and let me go. For you yourself know my service that I have rendered to you." ²⁷ But Laban said to him, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, I have learned by divination that Yahweh has blessed me because of you." ²⁸ And he said, "Name your wage to me and I will give it." ²⁹ Then he said to him, "You yourself know how I have served you and how your livestock have been with me.* ³⁰ For you had little before me, and it has increased abundantly. And Yahweh has blessed you _⌊wherever I turned_⌋.* So then, when shall I provide for my own family also?" ³¹ And he said, "What shall I give you?" And Jacob said, "Do not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flocks and keep them. ³² Let me pass through all your flocks today, removing all the speckled and spotted sheep from them, along with* every dark-colored sheep among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats. That* shall be my wages. ³³ And my righteousness will answer for me _⌊later_⌋* when you come concerning my wages before you. Every one that is not speckled or spotted among the goats, or dark-colored among the sheep shall be stolen if it is with me." ³⁴ Then Laban said, "Look! Very well. It shall be according to your word." ³⁵ But that day he* removed the streaked and spotted male goats and all the speckled and spotted female goats, all that had white on it, and every dark-colored ram, and _⌊put them in the charge of his sons_⌋.* ³⁶ And he put a journey of three days between him and Jacob, and Jacob pastured the remainder of Laban's flock. ³⁷ Then Jacob took fresh branches of poplar, almond, and plane trees and peeled white strips on them, exposing the white which was on the branches. ³⁸ And he set the branches that he had peeled in front of the flocks, in the troughs and in the water containers. And they were in heat when they came to drink. ³⁹ And the flocks mated by the branches, so the flocks bore streaked, speckled, and spotted. ⁴⁰ And Jacob separated the lambs and turned the faces of the flocks toward the streaked and all the dark-colored in Laban's flocks. And he put his own herds apart, and did not put them with the flocks of Laban. ⁴¹ And whenever any of the stronger of the flocks were in heat, Jacob put the branches _⌊in full view_⌋* of the flock in the troughs that they might mate among the branches. ⁴² But with the more feeble of the flock he would not put them there. So the feebler were Laban's and the stronger were Jacob's. ⁴³ And the man became _⌊exceedingly_⌋* rich and had large flocks, female slaves, male slaves, camels, and donkeys.

³¹ When Yahweh saw that Leah was unloved he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

¹⁶ Then they journeyed from Bethel. And _⌊when they were still some distance_⌋* from Ephrath, Rachel went into labor. And she had hard labor. ¹⁷ And _⌊when her labor was the most difficult_⌋* the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid _⌊for you have another son_⌋."* ¹⁸ And it happened that when her life was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-Oni.* But his father called him Benjamin.* ¹⁹ And Rachel died and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

¹¹ And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery."

²⁹ But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that he* give all Yahweh's people prophets, that Yahweh put his spirit on them!"

⁴ _⌊On_⌋* the day Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters. ⁵ But to Hannah he would give _⌊a double portion_⌋,* because he loved Hannah, though Yahweh had closed her womb. ⁶ (Now her rival wife would provoke her severely in order to upset her because Yahweh had closed her womb.) ⁷ And so he used to do* year after year; _⌊whenever_⌋* she went up to the house of Yahweh, she* would provoke her so that she* would weep and would not eat. ⁸ So Elkanah her husband would say to her: "Hannah, why do you weep and why do you not eat? And _⌊why are you heartsick_⌋?* Am I not better to you than ten sons?"

⁴ Then he went into the wilderness one day's journey, and he went and sat under a certain broom tree. Then _⌊he asked Yahweh that he might die_⌋,* and he said, "It is enough now, Yahweh; take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors."*

¹ _⌊Afterward_⌋* Job opened his mouth and cursed* his day. ² Thus* Job _⌊spoke up_⌋* and said, ³ "Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night that said, 'A man-child is conceived.'

¹¹ "Why did I not die at* birth? Why did I not come forth from the womb and expire?

²⁰ "Why does he* give light to one in misery and life to those bitter of soul, ²¹ who wait for death, but* _⌊it does not come_⌋,* and search* for it more than for treasures, ²² who rejoice _⌊exceedingly_⌋,* and they are glad when they find the grave?

² For vexation will slay the fool, and jealousy will kill the simple.

¹⁹ Who is he who will contend with me? For _⌊then_⌋ I would be silent, and I would pass away.

¹⁶ And they were jealous of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh.

³⁰ A heart* of tranquility* is life to the flesh, but causes bones of passion to rot.

⁴ I also realized that all of the toil and all of the skillful work that is done—it is envy between one man and _⌊another_⌋.* This also is vanity and chasing wind!

¹⁴ Cursed be the day on which I was born, let not the day on which my mother gave birth to me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, _⌊saying_⌋,* "A child is born to you, a son!" and he made him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be like the cities that Yahweh demolished without regret, and let him hear a cry for help in the morning, and an alarm at the time of noon. ¹⁷ Because he did not kill me in the womb, so that my mother would have been for me my grave, and her womb would be pregnant forever. ¹⁸ _⌊Why_⌋* did I come out from the womb, to see toil, and sorrow, and to _⌊end my days in shame_⌋?*

³ he left Judea and departed again for Galilee.

³ for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and do you not live like unregenerate people?*

¹⁰ For grief according to the will of God brings about a repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted, but worldly grief brings about death.

²¹ envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, things which I am telling you in advance, just as I said before, that the ones who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, enslaved to various desires and pleasures, spending our lives in wickedness and envy, despicable, hating one another.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth.

⁵ Or do you think that in vain the scripture says, "The spirit which he caused to dwell in us desires jealously"?*

² And Sarai said to Abram, "Look, please, Yahweh has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my servant; perhaps _⌊I will have children by her_⌋."* And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

¹⁸ For Yahweh had completely closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of the matter of Sarah, the wife of Abraham.

²¹ And Isaac prayed to Yahweh on behalf of his wife, for she was barren. And Yahweh responded to his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

³⁶ Then Jacob became angry and quarreled with Laban. Jacob answered and said to Laban, "What is my offense? What is my sin that you pursued after me?

¹⁹ Then Joseph said to them, "Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God?

¹⁹ _⌊And_⌋* as he came near to the camp, he saw the bull calf and dancing, and _⌊Moses became angry_⌋,* and he threw the tablets from his hand, and he broke them under the mountain.

¹³ And he will love you, and he will bless you, and he will multiply you, and he will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your soil, your grain, your wine, and your olive oil, and newborn calves of your cattle, and the newborn lambs* of your flocks in the land that he swore to your ancestors* to give you. ¹⁴ You shall be blessed more than all of the peoples; among you there shall not be sterility and bareness, even* among domestic animals.*

⁵ But to Hannah he would give _⌊a double portion_⌋,* because he loved Hannah, though Yahweh had closed her womb.

⁵ Those who were full must hire themselves out for bread, but those who are hungry will become fat. As for the infertile, she will bear seven, but she who has many sons withers away. ⁶ Yahweh kills and restores alive, he brings down to Sheol* and raises up.

⁷ It happened that when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God to cause death or to give life? This man is sending a man to me to cure his disease. Indeed! But know and see that he seeks an opportunity against me."

⁹ He causes the barren woman of the house to dwell as the happy mother of children. Praise Yah!*

³ Look, children* are the heritage* of Yahweh; the fruit of the womb is a reward.

²² But I say to you that everyone who is angry at his brother will be subject to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Stupid fool!'* will be subject to the council, and whoever says, 'Obstinate fool!'* will be subject to fiery hell.

⁵ And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your* hand." And he stretched it* out, and his hand was restored.

⁴² And she cried out with a loud shout and said,
"Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

²⁶ Be angry and do not sin;* do not let the sun set on your anger,

² And Sarai said to Abram, "Look, please, Yahweh has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my servant; perhaps _⌊I will have children by her_⌋."* And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. ³ Then* Sarai, the wife of Abram, took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband as his wife.

⁹ When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took Zilpah her female servant and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim's children to the third generation. Moreover, the children of Makir, son of Manasseh, were born on the knees of Joseph.

¹¹ And all of the people who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman coming into your house as Rachel and as Leah, who _⌊together_⌋* built the house of Israel. May you have strength in Ephrathah and bestow a name in Bethlehem.

¹² Why did the knees receive me and the breasts, that I could suck?

³ Then* Sarai, the wife of Abram, took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband as his wife. ⁴ And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she* saw that she had conceived, then her mistress grew small in her eyes.

¹⁰ Then she said to Abraham, "Drive out this slave woman and her son, for the son of this slave woman will not be heir with my son, with Isaac."

²⁴ And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.

¹ Now Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.

⁶ But to the sons of Abraham's concubines Abraham gave gifts. And while he was still living he sent them away eastward, away from his son Isaac, to the land of the east.

² And he put the female slaves and their children first, then Leah and her children next, then Rachel with Joseph last.

²² And while Israel was living in that land Reuben went and had sexual relations with Bilhah, his father's concubine. And Israel heard about it.

¹¹ Thus says Yahweh, 'Look, I am going to raise up evil against you from within your house, and I will take your women before your eyes, and I will give them to your neighbor, and he shall sleep with your wives _⌊in broad daylight_⌋.*

³² Then Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, "Because Yahweh has noticed my misery, that I am unloved. Now my husband will love me." ³³ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. And she said, "It is because Yahweh has heard that I am unloved that he gave me this son also." And she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. Then she said, "Now this time my husband will be joined to me, for I have borne him three sons." Therefore, she called his name Levi. ³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. And she said, "This time I will praise Yahweh." Therefore she called his name Judah. And she ceased bearing children.

²⁵ The sons of Bilhah, the female servant of Rachel: Dan and Naphtali.

²³ The sons of Dan: Hushim.

¹⁶ Dan shall judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan shall be a serpent on the way, a viper on the road that bites the heels of a horse, so that its rider falls backward.

²² And of Dan he said, "Dan is a cub of a lion; he leaps from Bashan."*

²⁴ Vindicate me according to your righteousness, O Yahweh my God, and do not let them rejoice over me.

¹ Judge me, O God, and plead my case against* an unfaithful* nation. From a man of deceit and wickedness rescue me,

² So I bought the loincloth according to the word of Yahweh and I put it* on my loins.

²⁴ And I will scatter them like stubble scattered by the wind of the desert.*

¹⁴ And I will make you serve your enemies in a land that you do not know, for a fire will kindle in my anger. Upon you it will be kindled." ¹⁵ You who know, O Yahweh, remember me, and attend to me, and take revenge for me against my persecutors _⌊in your forbearance_⌋.* You must take me away. Know that I am carrying disgrace because of you. ¹⁶ Your words were found and I ate them, and your words became to me as jubilation, even as the joy of my heart, for your name is called on me, O Yahweh God of hosts. ¹⁷ I sat not in the assembly of jokers, nor did I exult. Because of the _⌊presence_⌋* of your hand I sat alone, for you filled me with indignation. ¹⁸ Why is my pain endless, and my wound incurable? It refuses to become healed. Truly you are to me like a deceitful brook, waters that are not trustworthy. ¹⁹ Therefore thus says Yahweh,
"If you turn back, then I will take you back. You will stand _⌊before me_⌋.* And if you utter what is precious and not what is worthless, you will be as my mouth. They will turn back to you, and you will not turn back to them. ²⁰ And I will make you to this people a wall of fortified bronze, and they will fight against you, but they will not prevail over you, for I am with you, to save you, and to deliver you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁵⁹ You have seen my injustice, O Yahweh; judge my case.

⁶ "Hear us, my lord, you are a mighty prince* in our midst. Bury your dead in the choicest of our burial sites. None of us _⌊will withhold his burial site_⌋* from you for burying your dead."

²⁴ And Jacob remained alone, and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the dawn. ²⁵ And when he* saw that he could not prevail against him, he struck his hip socket, so that Jacob's hip socket was sprained as he wrestled with him.

²⁴ The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

²¹ Naphtali is a doe running free that puts forth beautiful words.

²⁸ Pray to Yahweh. The thunder of God and hail _⌊are enough_⌋,* and I will release you, and _⌊you will no longer have to stay_⌋."*

²³ And of Naphtali, he said, "Oh, Naphtali, sated of favor, and full of the blessing of Yahweh; take possession of the lake, and the land to the south."

¹⁵ Then there was terror* in the camp, in the open field, and among all the army of the garrison. Even the _⌊raiders_⌋* trembled. The earth shook, and it became _⌊a very great panic_⌋.*

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, he went and* lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

³ Then* Sarai, the wife of Abram, took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband as his wife.

³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. And she said, "This time I will praise Yahweh." Therefore she called his name Judah. And she ceased bearing children.

¹⁹ Bandits shall attack Gad, but he shall attack their heels.

²⁰ And of Gad he said, "Blessed be _⌊the one who enlarges Gad_⌋;* like a lion he dwells, and he tears an arm as well as a scalp. ²¹ And he selected* the best part for himself, * for there the portion of a ruler is included, and he came with the heads of the people;* he did* the righteousness of Yahweh, and his regulations for Israel."

¹¹ But* you _⌊who forsake_⌋* Yahweh, forgetting _⌊my holy mountain_⌋,* who set a table for Fortune, and who _⌊pour out_⌋* a jug of mixed wine for Destiny,

¹⁷ The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah, and their sister Serah. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malkiel.

²⁰ Asher's food is delicious, and he shall provide from the king's delicacies.

²⁴ And of Asher he said, "Blessed _⌊more than sons_⌋* is Asher; _⌊may he be the favorite_⌋* of his brothers, _⌊dipping his feet in the oil_⌋.* ²⁵ Your bars are* iron and bronze, and as your days, so is* your strength."

²⁸ Her children rise and consider her happy, her husband* also, and he praises her;

⁹ My dove, _⌊she is the one_⌋;** my perfect, _⌊she is the only one_⌋;** she is _⌊the favorite of_⌋** her mother who bore her. Maidens see her and consider her fortunate;* queens and concubines praise her:

⁴⁸ because he has looked upon the humble state of his female slave, for behold, from now on all generations will consider me blessed,

³⁰ And Esau said to Jacob, "Give me _⌊some of that red stuff_⌋* to gulp down, for I am exhausted!" (Therefore his name was called Edom).

¹³ The mandrakes give off their fragrance, and _⌊over our doorway is every kind of delicious fruit_⌋;* both _⌊fresh and dried fruit I have stored up_⌋* for you, O my beloved.

⁹ Is it too little for you that the God of Israel set you apart from the community of Israel _⌊to allow you to approach him_⌋* to do the work of the tabernacle of Yahweh, to stand _⌊before_⌋* the community to serve them? ¹⁰ _⌊He has allowed you to approach him_⌋,* you with all your brothers, the descendants* of Levi, but yet you also seek the priesthood.

¹³ Is it too little that you have brought us from a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, and that you also appoint yourself as a ruler over us?

¹³ Then he said, "Hear, house of David! Is it too little for you to make men weary, that you should also make my God weary?

⁴⁷ And you have not only gone in their ways, but* you also did according to their detestable things. _⌊In such a short time_⌋* you behaved more corruptly than they in all of your ways.

³ But to me it is a very little matter that I be judged by you or by a human court,* but I do not even judge myself.

⁶ Then Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son." Therefore she called his name Dan.

²² Then God remembered Rachel and listened to her, and God opened her womb.

⁷ And Yahweh said, "Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings.

²⁰ _⌊In due time_⌋,* Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She called his name Samuel, for she said, "I requested him from Yahweh."

²⁶ She said, "Excuse me, my lord. As _⌊you live_⌋,* my lord, I am the woman who stood with you in this place to pray to Yahweh. ²⁷ I prayed for this boy, and Yahweh has given me my request that I asked from him.

¹³ But the angel said to him,
"Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name John.

²³ The sons of Leah: The firstborn of Jacob was Reuben. Then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

¹³ The sons of Issachar: Tolah, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron.

¹⁴ Issachar is a strong donkey, crouching between the sheepfolds. ¹⁵ He saw a resting place that was good, and land that was pleasant. So he bowed his shoulder to the burden and became a servant of forced labor.

¹⁸ And of Zebulun he said, "Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, and rejoice, Issachar, in your tents;

³² And from the men of Issachar: _⌊men who were skilled in understanding the times_⌋* to know what Israel should do. Their chiefs were two hundred, and all their kinsmen were under their command.

³⁴ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. Then she said, "Now this time my husband will be joined to me, for I have borne him three sons." Therefore, she called his name Levi.

¹⁵ And she said to her, "Is your taking my husband such a small thing that you will also take the mandrakes of my son?" Then Rachel said, "Then he may sleep with you tonight in exchange for your son's mandrakes."

¹⁴ The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.

¹³ Zebulun shall settle by the shore of the sea. He shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall be at Sidon.

¹⁰ Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and _⌊they went up behind him_⌋,* ten thousand men, and Deborah went up with him.

¹⁴ From Ephraim is their root into Amalek, after you, Benjamin, with your family; from Makir the commanders went down, and from Zebulun those carrying the scepter of the military commander.

²⁷ There is little Benjamin ruling them, with the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of Zebulun and the princes of Naphtali.

¹ Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. ² And Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. And he took her and lay with her and raped her. ³ And his soul clung to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke _⌊tenderly_⌋* to the girl.

²⁶ They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the edge of the sword, and they took Dinah from the house of Shechem and went out.

¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah that she bore to Jacob in Paddan-Aram, and Dinah his daughter. His sons and daughters were thirty-three persons in all.

¹ And God remembered Noah and all the wild animals, and all the domesticated animals that were with him in the ark. And God caused a wind to blow* over the earth, and the waters subsided.

¹ And Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said. And Yahweh did to Sarah as he had promised. ² And she conceived, and Sarah bore to Abraham a son in his old age at the appointed time that God had told him.

² And Jacob _⌊became angry_⌋* with Rachel. And he said, "Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"

¹⁹ Then they rose early in the morning and worshiped before Yahweh _⌊and returned_⌋* to their house at Ramah. Then Elkanah _⌊had sexual relations with_⌋* Hannah his wife, and Yahweh remembered her. ²⁰ _⌊In due time_⌋,* Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She called his name Samuel, for she said, "I requested him from Yahweh."

⁴² For he remembered his holy _⌊promise_⌋;* he remembered Abraham his servant.

⁵ But to Hannah he would give _⌊a double portion_⌋,* because he loved Hannah, though Yahweh had closed her womb. ⁶ (Now her rival wife would provoke her severely in order to upset her because Yahweh had closed her womb.)

¹ And seven women shall grasp at one man on that day, saying, "We will eat our own bread, and we will wear our own clothing; only _⌊let us be called by your name_⌋!* Take away our disgrace!"

²¹ And the people were waiting for Zechariah, and began to wonder* when* he was delayed in the temple.

²⁵ "Thus the Lord has done for me in the days in which he has concerned himself with me,* to take away my disgrace among people."

²⁷ to a virgin legally promised in marriage to a man _⌊named_⌋* Joseph of the house of David. And the name of the virgin was Mary.

¹⁷ And _⌊when her labor was the most difficult_⌋* the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid _⌊for you have another son_⌋."* ¹⁸ And it happened that when her life was departing (for she was dying), she called his name Ben-Oni.* But his father called him Benjamin.*

²⁴ The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

² These are the generations* of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his brothers. Now he was a helper with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, the wives of his father. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to his father.

⁴ When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and were not able to speak peaceably to him.

¹ Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a court official of Pharaoh, commander of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. ² And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. ³ And his master observed that Yahweh was with him, and everything that was in his hand to do Yahweh made successful. ⁴ And Joseph found favor in his eyes and he served him. Then he appointed him* over his house and all that he owned he put into his hand. ⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of Yahweh was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ And he left all that he had in the hand of Joseph, and _⌊he did not worry about anything_⌋* except the food that he ate. Now Joseph was _⌊well built and handsome_⌋.* ⁷ And it happened that after these things his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me." ⁸ But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Look, my master _⌊does not worry about_⌋* what is in the house, and everything he owns he has put in my hand. ⁹ He has no greater authority in this house than me, and he has not withheld anything from me except you, since you are his wife. Now how could I do this great wickedness and sin against God?" ¹⁰ And it happened that as she spoke to Joseph _⌊day after day_⌋,* he did not heed her to lie beside her or to be with her. ¹¹ _⌊But one particular day_⌋* he came into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house were there in the house, ¹² she seized him by his garment and said, "Lie with me!" And he left his garment in her hand and fled, and he went outside. ¹³ And it happened that when she saw that he left his garment in her hand and fled outside, ¹⁴ she called to the men of her house and said to them, "Look! He* brought a Hebrew man to us to mock us! He came to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. ¹⁵ And when he heard me, that I raised my voice and called out, he left his garment beside me and fled, and he went outside." ¹⁶ Then she put his garment beside her until his master came to his house. ¹⁷ Then she spoke to him according to these words, saying, "The Hebrew slave that you brought to us came to me to make fun of me. ¹⁸ And it happened that as I raised my voice and called out, he left his garment beside me and fled outside." ¹⁹ And when his master heard the words of his wife that she spoke to him, "_⌊This is what your servant did to me_⌋,"* _⌊he became very angry_⌋.* ²⁰ And Joseph's master took him and put him into prison, the place that the king's prisoners were confined. And he was there in prison. ²¹ And Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed loyal love to him, and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the prison. ²² And the chief of the prison put all the prisoners that were in the prison into the hand of Joseph. And everything that was done there, he was the one who did it. ²³ The chief of the prison _⌊did not worry about_⌋* anything in his* hand, since Yahweh was with him. And whatever he did Yahweh made it successful.

⁶ Now Joseph was the governor over the land. He was the one who sold food to all the people of the land. And the brothers of Joseph came and bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.

¹ And it happened that after these things, it was said to Joseph, "Behold, your father is ill." And he took his two sons with him, Ephraim and Manasseh. ² And it was told to Jacob, "Behold, your son Joseph has come to you." Then Israel strengthened himself and he sat up in the bed. ³ Then Jacob said to Joseph, "El-Shaddai* appeared to me in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, ⁴ and said to me, 'Behold, I will make you fruitful and make you numerous, and will make you a company of nations. And I will give this land to your offspring after you as an everlasting possession.' ⁵ And now, your two sons who were born to you in the land of Egypt before my coming to you in Egypt, are mine. Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine as Reuben and Simeon are. ⁶ And your children whom you father after them shall be yours. By the name of their brothers they shall be called, with respect to their inheritance. ⁷ As for me, when I came to Paddan-Aram Rachel died _⌊to my sorrow_⌋* in the land of Canaan on the way when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)." ⁸ When Israel saw the sons of Joseph he said, "Who are these?" ⁹ Then Joseph said to his father, "They are my sons whom God has given me here." And he said, "Please bring them to me that I may bless them." ¹⁰ Now the eyes of Israel were dim* on account of old age; he was not able to see. So he brought them near to him, and he kissed them and embraced them. ¹¹ And Israel said to Joseph, "I did not expect to see your face and behold, God has also shown me your offspring." ¹² Then Joseph removed them from his knees and bowed down with his face to the ground. ¹³ And Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim at his right to the left of Israel, and Manasseh at his left to the right of Israel. And he brought them near to him. ¹⁴ And Israel stretched out his right hand and put it on the head of Ephraim (now he was the younger), and his left hand on the head of Manasseh, crossing his hands, for Manasseh was the firstborn. ¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said,
"The God before whom my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, walked, The God who shepherded me _⌊all my life_⌋* unto this day, ¹⁶ The angel who redeemed me from all evil, may he bless the boys. And through them let my name be perpetuated,* and the name of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac. And let them multiply into many in the midst of the earth. ¹⁷ When Joseph saw that his father put his right hand on the head of Ephraim, he was displeased. And he took hold of his father's hand to remove it from the head of Ephraim over to the head of Manasseh. ¹⁸ And Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father; because this one is the firstborn. Put your right hand upon his head." ¹⁹ But his father refused and said, "I know, my son; I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great, but his younger brother shall be greater than him, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations." ²⁰ So he blessed them that day, saying,
Through you Israel shall pronounce blessing, saying, 'May God make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh.'"
So he put Ephraim before Manasseh. ²¹ And Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you back to the land of your ancestors.* ²² And I have given to you one slope of land rather than your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorites by my sword and with my bow."

²² Joseph is the bough* of a fruitful vine, a fruitful bough* by a spring. His branches climb over the wall. ²³ _⌊The archers_⌋* fiercely attacked him. They shot arrows at him and were hostile to him. ²⁴ But his bow remained in a steady position; _⌊his arms_⌋* were made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob. From there is the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel. ²⁵ Because of the God of your father he will help you and by Shaddai* he will bless you with the blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that crouches beneath, blessings of the breasts and the womb. ²⁶ The blessings of your father are superior to the blessings of my ancestors, to the bounty of the everlasting hills. May they be on the head of Joseph, and on the forehead of the prince of his brothers.

¹³ And of Joseph he said, "Blessed by Yahweh is his land, with* the choice things of heaven, with* dew, and with* the deep lying down beneath, ¹⁴ and with* the choice things of the fruits* of the the sun, and with the choice things of the yield of the _⌊seasons_⌋,* ¹⁵ and with* the finest things of the ancient mountains, and with* the choice things of the _⌊eternal hills_⌋,* ¹⁶ and with* the choice things of the earth and its fullness, and the favor of the one _⌊who dwelt_⌋* in the bush.* Let them come to the head of Joseph, and to the crown of the prince among his brothers. ¹⁷ As the firstborn of his ox, majesty _⌊belongs to him_⌋,* and his horns are the horns of a wild ox; with them he drives people together,* and they are the myriads of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh."

¹⁶ "And you, son of man,* take for yourself _⌊a piece of wood_⌋,* and write on it, 'For Judah and for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* his associates,' and take another piece of wood, and write on it, 'For Joseph, the piece of wood of* Ephraim and all of the house of Israel his associates.'

⁹ And the patriarchs, because they* were jealous of Joseph, sold him* into Egypt. And God was with him, ¹⁰ and rescued him from all his afflictions and granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And he appointed him ruler over Egypt and all* his household. ¹¹ And a famine came over all Egypt and Canaan and great affliction, and our fathers could not find food. ¹² So when* Jacob heard there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. ¹³ And on the second visit* Joseph was made known to his brothers, and the family of Joseph became known to Pharaoh. ¹⁴ So Joseph sent and* summoned his father Jacob and all his* relatives, seventy-five persons in all. ¹⁵ And Jacob went down to Egypt and died, he and our fathers.

²¹ By faith Jacob, as he* was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff. ²² By faith Joseph, as he* was dying, mentioned about the exodus of the sons of Israel and gave instructions about his bones.

⁸ from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand were sealed.

³³ Then Yahweh left,* as he finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

⁶ Abraham said to him, "_⌊You must take care_⌋* that you do not return my son there. ⁷ Yahweh, the God of heaven who took me from the house of my father and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, 'to your offspring I will give this land,' he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

⁵⁴ And he and the men who were with him ate and drank, and they spent the night. And they got up in the morning, and he said, "Let me go to my master."

⁵⁶ And he said to them, "Do not delay me. Now, Yahweh has made my journey successful. Let me go. I must go to my master."

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

⁴⁴ Stay with him a few days until the wrath of your brother has turned— ⁴⁵ until the anger of your brother turns from you and he has forgotten what you have done to him. Then I will send and bring you from there. Why should I lose the two of you in one day?"

¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants.

¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."

¹³ I am the God of Bethel where you anointed a stone pillar, where you made a vow to me. Now get up, go out from this land and return to the land of your birth.'"

⁵⁵ * And Laban arose early in the morning and kissed his grandsons* and his daughters, and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned to his homeland.

⁴ Then he went out from the land of the Chaldeans and* settled in Haran. And from there, after his father died, he caused him to move to this land in which you now live. ⁵ And he did not give him an inheritance in it—not even a footstep*—and he promised to give it* to him for his possession, and to his descendants after him, _⌊although he did not have_⌋** a child.

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise.

¹⁵ And if they remember* that land from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

¹⁹ Then Laban said, "Better that I give her to you than I give her to another man. Stay with me." ²⁰ And Jacob worked for Rachel seven years, but they were as a few days in his eyes because he loved her.

³⁰ Then he also went in to Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with him yet another seven years.

²⁹ Then he said to him, "You yourself know how I have served you and how your livestock have been with me.* ³⁰ For you had little before me, and it has increased abundantly. And Yahweh has blessed you _⌊wherever I turned_⌋.* So then, when shall I provide for my own family also?"

⁶ Now you yourselves know that I have served your father with all my strength,

²⁶ Then Laban said to Jacob, "What have you done that you _⌊tricked me_⌋* and have carried off my daughters like captives of the sword?

³¹ Then Jacob answered and said to Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I thought, 'Lest you take your daughters from me by force.'

³⁸ These twenty years I was with you; your ewes and your female goats did not miscarry, and the rams of your flocks I did not eat. ³⁹ I brought no mangled carcass to you—I bore its loss. From my hand you sought it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. ⁴⁰ There I was, during the day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes. ⁴¹ These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.

¹² Jacob fled to the open field of Aram,* and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he watched over sheep.

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

³ And he said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your eyes do not pass by your servant.

²⁴ And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and I will bless you and make your descendants numerous for the sake of my servant Abraham."

³⁰ For you had little before me, and it has increased abundantly. And Yahweh has blessed you _⌊wherever I turned_⌋.* So then, when shall I provide for my own family also?"

¹⁵ And Esau said, "Let me leave some of my people with you." But he said, "_⌊What need is there_⌋?* Let me find favor in the eyes of my lord."

¹¹ Then Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, "Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you say to me I will do.

² And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. ³ And his master observed that Yahweh was with him, and everything that was in his hand to do Yahweh made successful. ⁴ And Joseph found favor in his eyes and he served him. Then he appointed him* over his house and all that he owned he put into his hand. ⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of Yahweh was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

²⁵ And they said, "You have saved our lives. If we have found favor in the eyes of my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh."

²¹ And I will give this people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, _⌊and then_⌋* when you go, you will not go empty-handed.

¹¹ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Why have you brought trouble to your servant? Why have I not found favor in your eyes, that the burdens of all these people have been placed on me?

¹³ And she said, "May I find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and have spoken _⌊kindly to your servant_⌋,* and I am not one of your servants."

²² Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, "Please let David stand before me, because he has found favor _⌊in my sight_⌋."*

¹⁹ Hadad found great favor in the eyes of Pharaoh, and he gave him the sister of his wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen, as wife.

¹¹ O Lord, please let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight to revere in your name. Please, let your servant be successful this day and give him compassion before this man."
I was cupbearer for the king.

⁵ Then I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your presence, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my ancestors'* burial sites, so that I may rebuild it."

³ And so, he is like a tree planted by streams of water that gives its fruit in its season; its leaf also does not wither. Therefore all that he does prospers.

¹³ And _⌊even if only a tenth part remain_⌋,* _⌊again she will be destroyed_⌋* like a terebinth or like an oak, which although felled, a tree stump remains in them. The seed of holiness will be her tree stump."

⁹ And their descendants* will be known among the nations, and their offspring in the midst of the peoples. All those who see them shall recognize them, that they are descendants* whom Yahweh has blessed.

⁸ Thus says Yahweh: "Just as the new wine is found in the cluster, and they say 'You must not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,' so I will do for the sake of my servants _⌊by_⌋* not destroying _⌊everyone_⌋.*

⁹ And God* gave Daniel favor and compassion _⌊before_⌋* the commander of the court officials,

¹⁰ and rescued him from all his afflictions and granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And he appointed him ruler over Egypt and all* his household.

¹⁵ Then Laban said to Jacob, "Just because you are my brother should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wage should be."

¹⁹ Then Laban said, "Better that I give her to you than I give her to another man. Stay with me."

⁵ And Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son for Jacob.

³⁸ These twenty years I was with you; your ewes and your female goats did not miscarry, and the rams of your flocks I did not eat. ³⁹ I brought no mangled carcass to you—I bore its loss. From my hand you sought it, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. ⁴⁰ There I was, during the day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.

⁴⁵ "Who then is the faithful and wise slave whom the master has put in charge of his household slaves to give them their* food at the right time?

⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ, ⁶ not _⌊while being watched_⌋*, as people pleasers, but as slaves of Christ doing the will of God from the heart, ⁷ serving with goodwill as to the Lord and not to people, ⁸ because you* know that each one of you, whatever good he should do,* this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free.

²² Slaves, obey your _⌊human_⌋* masters in everything, not _⌊while being watched_⌋*, as people pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. ²³ Whatever you do, accomplish it from the soul, as to the Lord, and not to people, ²⁴ because you* know that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. Serve* the Lord Christ. ²⁵ For the one who does wrong will receive back whatever wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

⁹ Slaves must be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back, ¹⁰ not stealing, but demonstrating all good faith, in order that they may do credit to the teaching of God our Savior in everything.

¹⁵ For the will of God is as follows: by* doing good to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

¹⁸ Domestic slaves, be subject to your* masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unjust.

¹⁰ For the fact is that the land _⌊that you are about to go into_⌋* to take possession of it is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have _⌊come out of_⌋,* where you sow your seed and you give water by your foot, _⌊as in a vegetable garden_⌋.*

¹⁴ Behold, this third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you. For I am not seeking your possessions, but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.

⁸ But if someone does not provide for his own relatives, and especially the members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁴ Then the Gibeonites said to him, "_⌊It is not a matter for us of_⌋* silver or gold with Saul or with his household. It is not for us to put to death anyone in Israel." He asked, "What are you saying that I should do for you all?" ⁵ Then they said to the king, "The man who consumed us and who plotted against us so that we were destroyed from existing in all of the territory of Israel, ⁶ let seven men from his sons be given over to us, and we will execute them before Yahweh in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen one of Yahweh." Then the king said, "I will give them over."

⁸ It is better to take refuge in Yahweh than to trust in humans.*

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."*

³⁵ But that day he* removed the streaked and spotted male goats and all the speckled and spotted female goats, all that had white on it, and every dark-colored ram, and _⌊put them in the charge of his sons_⌋.*

⁸ If thus he said, 'Speckled shall be your wage,' then all the flock bore speckled. And if he said, 'Streaked shall be your wage,' then all the flock bore streaked.

¹⁰ Now it happened that at the time of the mating of the flock I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams mounting the flock were streaked, speckled, and dappled.

³⁷ For you have searched all my possessions and what did you find among all the possessions of my household? Set it before my kinsmen and your kinsmen that they may decide between the two of us!

¹⁴ And when your son asks you _⌊in the future_⌋,* saying, 'What is this?' you will say to him, 'With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves.

²³ Yahweh repays to each one his righteousness and his faithfulness, for Yahweh gave you into my hand today, but I was not willing to stretch out my hand against Yahweh's anointed.

²¹ Yahweh rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands he recompensed me.

⁶ Then he will bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your justice like the noonday.

¹² For our transgressions are numerous before you, and our sins _⌊testify_⌋* against us. Indeed, our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities:

²⁹ Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you made a mockery of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now!"

⁷ I wish all people could be like myself, but each one has his own gift from God, one in this way and another in that way.

⁵ Now I want you all to speak with tongues, but even more that you may prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, in order that the church may receive edification.

¹² I wish that the ones who are disturbing you would also _⌊castrate themselves_⌋*!

⁹ God has taken away your father's livestock and given them to me.

⁹ God has taken away your father's livestock and given them to me. ¹⁰ Now it happened that at the time of the mating of the flock I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams mounting the flock were streaked, speckled, and dappled. ¹¹ Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob,' and I said, 'Here I am.' ¹² And he said, 'Lift up your eyes and see—all the rams mounting the flock are streaked, speckled, and dappled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you. ¹³ I am the God of Bethel where you anointed a stone pillar, where you made a vow to me. Now get up, go out from this land and return to the land of your birth.'"

⁸ Cedars in the garden of God could not be equal to it; fir trees* could not resemble its branches, and plane trees were not even like its branches; any tree even in the garden of God could not resemble it in its beauty. ⁹ God has taken away your father's livestock and given them to me. ¹⁰ Now it happened that at the time of the mating of the flock I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams mounting the flock were streaked, speckled, and dappled. ¹¹ Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob,' and I said, 'Here I am.' ¹² And he said, 'Lift up your eyes and see—all the rams mounting the flock are streaked, speckled, and dappled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you.

³⁸ These twenty years I was with you; your ewes and your female goats did not miscarry, and the rams of your flocks I did not eat.

⁴⁰ There I was, during the day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.

⁴² If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac had not been with me, indeed now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God saw my misery and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night."

³⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did according to the word of Moses, and they asked from the Egyptians for objects of silver and objects of gold and for clothing. ³⁶ And Yahweh gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians, and they granted their requests, and they plundered the Egyptians.

¹⁶ And he dealt well with Abram on account of her, and he had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

² Now Abram was very wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

³⁵ Now Yahweh has blessed my master exceedingly, and he has become great. He has given to him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male slaves and female slaves, and camels and donkeys.

¹³ And the man _⌊became wealthier and wealthier_⌋* until he was exceedingly wealthy. ¹⁴ And he possessed sheep and cattle and many servants, so that the Philistines envied him.

⁷ and your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, but God has not allowed him to harm me. ⁸ If thus he said, 'Speckled shall be your wage,' then all the flock bore speckled. And if he said, 'Streaked shall be your wage,' then all the flock bore streaked.

¹⁰ _⌊I am not worthy_⌋* of all the loyal love and all the faithfulness that you have shown* your servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps.

¹¹ Please take my gift which has been brought to you, for God has dealt graciously with me, and because _⌊I have enough_⌋."* And he urged him, so he took it.

⁷ For their possessions were _⌊too many to live together_⌋,* so that the land of their sojourning was not able to support them on account of their livestock.

⁷ I acquired male slaves and female slaves, as well as children born in my house. I also had livestock, cattle, and flocks more than anyone who was before me in Jerusalem.

¹⁰ And they will not carry trees from the field, and they will not chop wood from the forests, for with the weapons* they will light a fire; and they will plunder those plundering them, and they will plunder those plundering them," ' _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.
