¹ This is the record of the generations* of Adam. When* God created Adam,* he made him in the likeness of God. ² Male and female he created them. And he blessed them. And he called their name "Humankind" when* they were created. ³ And when Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he fathered a child in his likeness, according to his image. And he called his name Seth. ⁴ And the days of Adam after he fathered Seth were eight hundred years. ²⁶ And God said, "Let us make humankind in* our image and according to* our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of heaven,* and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every moving thing that moves upon the earth." ²⁷ So* God created humankind in* his image, in* the likeness of God he created him,* male and female he created them.

⁴ These are the generations* of heaven* and earth* when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made earth and heaven*—

⁹ These are the generations* of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, without defect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

¹ These are the generations* of the sons of Noah—Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Children* were born to them after the flood.

¹ Adam, Seth, Enosh;

²⁹ Look! This alone I found: God made mankind upright, but they have devised many schemes."

¹ Remember your Creator in the days of your youth— before the days of trouble come and the years draw near when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them!"

¹ The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

³⁶ the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, ³⁷ the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, ³⁸ the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

⁷ For indeed a man ought not to cover his head, because he* is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man.

¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, reflecting* the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory into glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

²⁴ and put on the new man (in accordance with God), who is created in righteousness and holiness from the truth.

¹⁰ and have put on the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created him,

³ who is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, sustaining all things by the word of power.* When he* had made purification for sins through him, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

⁹ Furthermore, we have had _⌊our earthly fathers_⌋* who disciplined us, and we respected them. Will we not much rather subject ourselves to the Father of spirits and live?

²⁷ So* God created humankind in* his image, in* the likeness of God he created him,* male and female he created them.

¹⁵ And Yahweh God took the man* and set him in the garden of Eden to cultivate it and to keep it.

²³ And the man* said,
"_⌊She is now_⌋* bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh; _⌊she_⌋* shall be called 'Woman,' for _⌊she was taken_⌋* from man."

¹⁵ _⌊Did not one God make them?_⌋* But a remnant of the spirit is his.* And what does the one God desire? An offspring of God.* _⌊You must be attentive to_⌋* your spirit, and you must not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth.

⁴ And he answered and* said, "Have you not read that the one who created them* from the beginning made them male and female

⁶ But from the beginning of creation 'he made them male and female.*

²⁶ And he made from one man every nation of humanity to live on all the face of the earth, determining their fixed times and the fixed boundaries of their habitation,

²⁵ Then* Adam knew* his wife again, and she gave birth to a son. And she called his name Seth, for she said "God has appointed to me another child in the place of Abel, because Cain killed him."

⁴ "Who can bring a clean thing from an unclean thing? No one!*

¹⁴ "What is a human being, that he can be clean, or* that one born of a woman can be righteous? ¹⁵ Look, he does not trust his holy ones, and the heavens are not clean in his eyes. ¹⁶ _⌊How much less_⌋* he who is abominable and corrupt,* a man drinking wickedness like water.

⁴ "Indeed,* how can a human being be righteous before God? And how will he who is born of a woman be pure?

² Yahweh looks down from heaven upon the children of humankind to see whether there is one who has insight, one who cares about God. ³ All have gone astray; they are altogether corrupt. There is not one who does good; there is not even one.

⁵ Behold, in iniquity I was born, and in sin my mother conceived me.

³⁵ And the angel answered and* said to her,
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the one to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

⁶ What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

¹² Because of this, just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death spread to all people because all sinned.

³⁹ Not all flesh is the same, but there is one flesh of human beings, and another flesh of animals, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish,

³ among whom also we all formerly lived in the desires of our flesh, doing the will* of the flesh and of the mind, and we were children of wrath* by nature, as also the rest of them were.

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of heaven,* and over every animal that moves upon the earth."

⁷ And after Seth had fathered Enosh he lived eight hundred and seven years, and fathered sons and daughters.

¹⁰ And after Enosh fathered Kenan he lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and fathered sons and daughters.

¹³ And after Kenan had fathered Mahalalel, he lived eight hundred and forty years, and fathered sons and daughters.

¹⁹ And after Jared had fathered Enoch, he lived eight hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters.

²² And Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah three hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters.

²⁶ And after Methuselah had fathered Lamech, he lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and fathered sons and daughters.

³⁰ And after Lamech had fathered Noah he lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and he fathered sons and daughters.

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

⁷ "And you, be fruitful and multiply, swarm on the earth and multiply in it."

¹² When Arphaxad had lived thirty-five years, he fathered Shelah.

¹ Adam, Seth, Enosh; ² Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared; ³ Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech;

³ Look, children* are the heritage* of Yahweh; the fruit of the womb is a reward.

¹² that our sons may be like plants, full grown in their youth, our daughters like corner pillars, carved in the style of a palace,

¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow* you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

⁸ And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.

¹¹ And all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died.

¹⁴ And all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died. ¹⁵ When* Mahalalel had lived sixty-five years, he fathered Jared. ¹⁶ And after Mahalalel had fathered Jared, he lived eight hundred and thirty years, and fathered sons and daughters. ¹⁷ And all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died. ¹⁸ When* Jared had lived one hundred and sixty-two years, he fathered Enoch. ¹⁹ And after Jared had fathered Enoch, he lived eight hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²⁰ And all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died. ²¹ When* Enoch had lived sixty-five years, he fathered Methuselah. ²² And Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah three hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²³ And all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. ²⁴ And Enoch walked with God, and he was no more, for God took him. ²⁵ When* Methuselah had lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, he fathered Lamech. ²⁶ And after Methuselah had fathered Lamech, he lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and fathered sons and daughters. ²⁷ And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died. ²⁸ When* Lamech had lived one hundred and eighty-two years, he fathered a son. ²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, "This one _⌊shall relieve us_⌋* from our work, and from the hard labor of our hands, from the ground which Yahweh had cursed. ³⁰ And after Lamech had fathered Noah he lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and he fathered sons and daughters. ³¹ All the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died. ³² When* Noah _⌊was five hundred years old_⌋,* Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

²⁰ by loving Yahweh your God by listening to his voice and by clinging to him, for he is your life and the length of your days in order for you to live on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them."

¹⁴ For _⌊we must certainly die_⌋,* and we are as the waters spilled to the ground which cannot be gathered. God will not take a life but devises plans for a banished person not to be cast out from him.

²³ Indeed, I know that you will bring me to death and to the house of assembly for all the living.

⁷ Surely a man cannot redeem a brother. He cannot give to God his ransom ⁸ (since* the redemption price for their life is costly and it always fails), ⁹ so that he may stay alive forever and not see the pit. ¹⁰ For he sees that the wise die, together with the fool and brute they perish, and leave their wealth to the next generation.

⁴⁸ What man can live on and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the _⌊power_⌋* of Sheol? Selah

¹⁰ As for the days of our years, within them are seventy years or if by strength eighty years, and their pride* is trouble and disaster, for it passes quickly and we fly away.

⁵ For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything. They no longer have a reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.

⁸ Always be clothed in white garments, and never let your head lack oil!

⁵ They are afraid of heights, and terrors are on the road. The almond tree blossoms, and the grasshopper draws itself along, and desire fails because man goes to his eternal home, and the mourners go about in the streets.

⁷ And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it.

⁴ Look! _⌊All lives are mine_⌋.* _⌊The lives of father and son alike are mine_⌋.* The person* sinning will die.

¹² Because of this, just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death spread to all people because all sinned. ¹³ For until the law, sin was in the world, but sin is not charged to one's account when there* is no law. ¹⁴ But death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one who is to come.

²¹ For since through a man came death, also through a man came the resurrection of the dead. ²² For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

²⁷ And _⌊just as_⌋* it is destined for people to die once, and after this, judgment,

²⁶ And as for Seth, he also fathered a son, and he called his name Enosh. At that time he* began to call on the name of Yahweh.

² Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared;

³⁷ the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,

¹⁷ And Cain knew* his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. And when he built a city _⌊he named the city after his son, Enoch_⌋.*

³ Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech;

¹⁴ And Enoch, the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about* these people, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with tens of thousands of his holy ones ¹⁵ to execute judgment against all, and to convict all the ungodly* concerning all their ungodly deeds that they have committed in an ungodly way, and concerning all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

²⁴ And Enoch walked with God, and he was no more, for God took him.

¹ When* Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he said to him, "I am El-Shaddai;* walk before me and be blameless

⁴⁰ And he said to me, 'Yahweh, before whom I have walked, shall send his angel with you and will make your journey successful. And you shall take a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said,
"The God before whom my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, walked, The God who shepherded me _⌊all my life_⌋* unto this day,

⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Look, I am going to rain down for you bread from the heavens, and the people will go out and gather enough for the day on its day; in that way I will test them: Will they go according to my law or not?

¹² And I will walk about in your midst, and I shall be your God,* and you shall be my people.*

³³ _⌊In exactly the path_⌋* that Yahweh your God has commanded, you must go, so that you may live and _⌊it will go well_⌋* for you and _⌊you may live long_⌋* in the land that you will take possession of."

⁴ You shall go after Yahweh your God, and him you shall revere, and his commandment you shall keep, and to his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.

⁹ Yahweh will establish you for _⌊himself_⌋* as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways.

⁴ so that Yahweh may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons take heed of their way, to walk before me in faithfulness, with all their heart and with all their soul, no man of yours will be cut off from the throne of Israel.'"

³ "O Yahweh, please remember how I went about before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and remember the good that I have done in your eyes." Then Hezekiah _⌊wept bitterly_⌋.*

⁸ I have set Yahweh before me always. Because he is at my right hand I will not be shaken.

¹¹ But as for me, I will walk in my integrity. Redeem me and be gracious to me.

¹³ because you have delivered my soul from death. Have you not kept my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

¹¹ Teach me, O Yahweh, your way, that I may walk in your truth. Unite my heart* to fear your name.

⁹ I will walk before Yahweh in the land* of the living.

¹ A song of ascents.*
Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh, who walks in his ways.

⁴ Draw me after you, let us run! May the king bring me into his chambers!* Let us be joyful and let us rejoice in you; let us extol your love more than wine. Rightly do they love you!

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

³ Do two walk together unless they have met?

⁵ For all the nations walk, each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of Yahweh our God, forever and ever.

⁸ He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does Yahweh ask from you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

⁶ The instruction of truth* was in his mouth, and wickedness was not found on his lips. In peace and in uprightness* he walked with me, and he brought back many from sin.*

⁶ And they were both righteous in the sight of God, living blamelessly in all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.

³¹ Then the church throughout all of Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being strengthened. And living in the fear of the Lord and the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it was increasing in numbers.*

¹ Consequently, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

¹⁷ But to each one as the Lord has apportioned. As God has called each one, thus let him live—and thus I order in all the churches.

¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said,
"I will live in* them and will walk about among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people."*

¹⁵ Therefore, consider carefully how you live, not as unwise but as wise,

¹⁰ so that you may live in a manner worthy of the Lord, _⌊to please him in all respects_⌋*, bearing fruit in every good deed and increasing in the knowledge of God,

⁵ Live with wisdom toward those outside, making the most of the time.

¹² exhorting and consoling you and insisting that you live in a manner worthy of God, who calls you to his own kingdom and glory.

¹ Finally therefore, brothers, we ask you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus that, just as you have received from us how it is necessary for you to live and to please God, just as indeed you are living, that you progress even more.

⁵ By faith Enoch was taken up, so that he did not experience death, and he was not found, because God took him up. For before his removal, he had been approved _⌊as having been pleasing_⌋* to God. ⁶ Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and is a rewarder of those who seek him.

⁷ But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

³⁰ And he returned to his brothers and said, "The boy _⌊is gone_⌋!* Now I, _⌊what can I do_⌋?"*

³⁶ And Jacob their father said to them, "You have bereaved me—Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and Benjamin you would take! All of this is against me!

¹ When Yahweh was about to take Elijah up in the storm to heaven, Elijah and Elisha went from Gilgal.

¹¹ Then they were walking, talking as they went. Suddenly a fiery chariot with horses of fire appeared and separated between the two of them. Elijah went up in the storm to the heavens

¹⁵ Thus says Yahweh, "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, the weeping of bitterness. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted because of her children, for they are no more."

¹⁸ "A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and she did not want to be comforted, because _⌊they exist no longer_⌋*."*

⁴³ And he said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."

¹⁸ And to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.

¹⁷ And to Adam* he said, "Because you listened to the voice of your wife and you ate from the tree _⌊from which I forbade you to eat_⌋,*
the ground shall be cursed on your account. In pain you shall eat from it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ And thorns and thistles shall sprout for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. ¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow* you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

¹¹ So now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive the blood of your brother from your hand. ¹² When you till the ground _⌊it shall no longer yield its strength to you_⌋.* You shall be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth."

⁸ But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh. ⁹ These are the generations* of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, without defect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

²³ And he* blotted out every living thing upon the surface of the ground, from humankind, to animals, to creeping things, and to the birds of heaven;* they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained.

²⁴ Then* Noah awoke from his drunkenness,* and he knew what his youngest son had done to him.

⁹ "For this is like the waters of Noah to me, when I swore _⌊that the waters of Noah would never again pass_⌋* over the earth, so I swore _⌊that I would not be_⌋* angry at you and rebuke you.

¹⁴ And if even the three of these men were in the midst of it—Noah, Daniel, and Job—they, through their righteousness, would save only _⌊themselves_⌋!"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁰ and if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the midst of her, _⌊as surely as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "surely not a son, surely not a daughter will they save by their righteousness; they would save _⌊themselves_⌋."*

³⁷ For just as the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.

³⁶ the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

²⁶ And just as it was in the days of Noah, so also it will be in the days of the Son of Man— ²⁷ they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

⁷ By faith Noah, having been warned about things not yet seen, out of reverence constructed an ark for the deliverance of his family, by which he pronounced sentence on the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

²⁰ who were formerly disobedient, when the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while* an ark was being constructed, in which a few—that is, eight souls—were rescued through water.

⁵ and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a proclaimer of righteousness, _⌊and seven others_⌋* when he* brought a flood on the world of the ungodly,

¹⁰ And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

¹³ On this same day, Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and the wife of Noah and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark,

¹⁸ Now* the sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) ¹⁹ These three were the sons of Noah, and from these _⌊the whole earth was populated_⌋.*

²² And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and he told his two brothers outside. ²³ Then* Shem and Japheth took a garment, and the two of them put it on their shoulders and, walking backward, they covered the nakedness of their father. And their faces were turned backward, so that* they did not see the nakedness of their father. ²⁴ Then* Noah awoke from his drunkenness,* and he knew what his youngest son had done to him. ²⁵ And he said,
"Cursed be Canaan, a slave of slaves he shall be to his brothers." ²⁶ Then* he said,
"Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave to them. ²⁷ May God make space for Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave for him."

²¹ And to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the older brother of Japheth, children were also born.

³² These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations* and in their nations. And from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.

⁴ Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. ⁵ The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. ⁶ The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Diphath, and Togarmah. ⁷ The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rhodanim. ⁸ The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. ⁹ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. ¹⁰ And Cush fathered Nimrod; he himself began to be mighty on earth. ¹¹ And Mizraim fathered the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim, ¹² the Pathrusim, the Casluhim (from whence the Philistines descended), and the Caphtorim. ¹³ And Canaan fathered Zidon his firstborn, and Heth, ¹⁴ and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, ¹⁵ the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, ¹⁶ the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. ¹⁷ The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. ¹⁸ And Arphaxad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. ¹⁹ And two sons were born to Eber: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and the name of his brother was Joktan. ²⁰ And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Ebal,* Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. ²⁴ Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah; ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu; ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah; ²⁷ Abram, that is, Abraham. ²⁸ The sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael.
